Hotel am Markt - Restaurant Meridiana in Saarburg

The staff was friendly, courteous, and quick. The food was delicious, made with fresh, well-seasoned ingredients. The hotel's location is beautiful, right next to the waterfall. It has a large outdoor terrace in picturesque surroundings. We only ordered one pizza, but we were immediately offered a second plate and cutlery.

We stumbled upon this place by chance and simply tried the pizza and the "Saarburger Rausch" wine. And we have to say, we were pleasantly surprised. We found the pizza tastier than anything we found in the surrounding area or toward the Moselle. The crust was nice and thin, only a little too dark in one small spot. And the wine paired very well with the fruity Hawaiian pizza. We'll be back in the summer.

It's a great place, but BEWARE: if you want to pay with Apple Pay or a debit card and it's under €10.00, the waiter will simply round it up to the nearest €10.00. That's supposed to be the minimum amount, but it's not mentioned anywhere! We had a drink for €7.00, and the waiter, without a hint of embarrassment, said, "That will be €10.00." So we paid cash without a tip. Extremely unfriendly to the customer, and it felt like a scam.

Beautifully located in the heart of Saarburg's historic center, we spontaneously stopped here for lunch. We had mussels with spaghetti and a pasta and salmon casserole. The food was excellent, and the portions were generous. We can't confirm the negative reviews. We did eat, but we didn't have pizza. But everyone at the neighboring tables seemed satisfied, too. The selection was plentiful. I could have easily chosen three other dishes from the menu. The beer (I chose the dark draft beer) wasn't that tasty. Everything else was excellent!

Very rude service. Picture this: Sunday afternoon, almost every table empty. We politely asked if we could sit for a quick drink — NO, not allowed, as the table was “reserved.” Fair enough, we moved to another. Then again NO — “only eating.” The sign outside says you’re welcome — I can assure you, no one is welcome here, not even paying customers - horrendous service. We went next door instead — served quickly, friendly staff, and guess what? The so-called “reserved” table stayed empty the whole time, along with most others. Avoid this place. There are much better options in Saarburg with better customer service.

The location is really special, with a great atmosphere, a friendly and super-fast team, and excellently crafted and tasty pizza and pasta.

My girlfriend and I sat down at a reserved table that wasn't needed for another two hours. I tried to explain to the waiter that we only wanted a beer, but without further explanation, he simply kicked us out of the café. Very rude and unprofessional.

The service was very friendly and attentive. Despite being busy (on a Sunday), the food arrived very quickly and was simply unbelievably delicious. Both the Salmone Tarte Flambée and the Funghi Pasta were very, very tasty, and at a very fair price. The house-made Braulini beer is also highly recommended. Completely satisfied. We'd be happy to come back :)

A table by the water was specially cleared for us. The pizza and antipasti were delicious, and the service was quick and very friendly. We felt very comfortable.

We've been here in Saarburg for several days now, parked in our motorhome at the campsite by the Saar River. We've been back to the city several times and have been to the hotel's beer garden several times. The location is fantastic. The food was good, the drinks decent. The staff was always attentive, friendly, and nice, even when we just wanted a drink right before the end. The Limoncello Spritz was amazing! Tourist scam, pizza with 3 small pieces of ham, 1/2 tiny artichoke heart and 5 slices of mushroom... Never seen a pizza like that... Add the demo carafe of water (tap water for sure) for 5 euros!!! That's a great example of a scam, not to mention the unpleasant welcome... Run away!!!!!!

Very disappointing service. The food wasn't served at the same time, and the child's tarte flambée was completely forgotten. Our 6-year-old child sat at the table hungry for almost an hour until we reminded the waitress ourselves. This is unacceptable for a family-friendly restaurant.

A warm welcome overall, and the view is really nice when you eat on the terrace (overlooking the river). The meal left something to be desired. The main course was very good, but the tiramisu was awful. The biscuit was soaked in water, the chocolate sauce was just like that on the plate with the glass placed on top—in short, it was inedible. The ice cream sundae is supposedly a white lady 🤷🤔 I've had better ice cream. It's a real shame because the setting is really nice and not too noisy.

Between showers, we enjoyed a delicious pizza on the beautiful terrace. What initially seemed like a standard tourist trap surprised us with its quality. The service was professional yet friendly, and they were attentive to our needs, so we didn't have to unnecessarily beckon for more drinks. The pizza selection is quite limited, but because there's a "free choice" pizza (3 toppings for €16), you can still build your favorite pizza. My only gripe was the price of a bottle of sparkling water, which was listed at ten euros on the bill. That's a bit absurd, but otherwise... delicious.

All in all, a great hotel with an extremely central location. There's also an on-site Italian restaurant, which was also quite delicious. The only thing that was a bit bumpy was the arrival. The young man who greeted us was busy between the restaurant and reception and was therefore a bit tense. I was also quite tired from the journey, so communication was a bit slow, especially when explaining how to get to the parking lot. The parking lot was also the only good thing. The hotel's own parking spaces aren't directly at the hotel and are a bit tricky to get to, so I couldn't find it despite the map. On the plus side, the room had a direct view of the old town and the rushing stream, which helped me sleep very well. Tatjana, the service person in the morning (between reception and the breakfast room), was amazing and a ray of sunshine. She made me and my wife smile and feel at ease. A big thank you for that 🙏

Very unpleasant welcome (by the tall, western-type waiter, no politeness) forces you to eat at their place and if you don't order food right away (eg: if you want to drink a beer or an aperitif before eating, impossible) he forces you to vacate the table (he says if you want to drink there is a bar further away) moreover he blows his nose in his hands at the same time as he brings you the drink (filthy). The pizzas are bland, the pasta they make small portions (ok for ladies but for a man it is not enough) I do not recommend it. He said everything and did this to a poor little couple of people of a certain age (I was personally at the gelateria right next to this restaurant I saw and heard everything 😡) frankly some restaurateurs should improve their hiring criteria.

I'm not sure when this has ever happened to us: the three of us wanted to have a drink, were immediately "hooked up" to see if we wanted something to eat, and after we said no, were sent away! We then had a drink next door and later ate across the street in the guild room. We found it outrageous! Especially since the outdoor area was never fully occupied. But we definitely wouldn't have eaten there again! If you don't want to, you have to!

We stopped by twice today, what a lovely place. First time for drinks and later for food. Really lovely dishes and great service. We had misunderstood each other and ended up with a pizza for the little one, which was not popular, but help was there immediately and a few minutes later there was one to the little man's taste. Really nice service, lovely location and good food. 5 big stars.

Had a drink on the terrace. Second drink never came. Had to wait so long for it that we didn't even want to eat with it. When we wanted to pay, we were grumpily referred to a colleague who reacted possibly even grumpier. We wanted to check the bill to see if the drink we hadn't received was also charged. With many sighs and a sour face, the employee got the receipt. When paying, the employee himself asked for a tip! Yeah, right! Not a friendly word or face and then expecting a tip too. Never experienced such unfriendly staff and the place wasn't even full. We will never come here again! Our tip? Just walk past

The coffee was quite good. But apparently we weren't allowed to pay; only after asking several times did someone come. Service wasn't so good...

The food was a disaster. The bread for the starter (bruschetta) was dry. We were simply forgotten about for the main course (the waiter confirmed that he had forgotten about us) and after 45 minutes we asked if there was anything else. When the food finally arrived it was a complete disappointment. The pizza dough wasn't cooked properly, was still completely light in colour and just hung limply and was far too greasy. The pasta with scampi smelled so strongly of fish and tasted sour that we left it entirely. Scampi should never smell of sour fish! The prices on the menu weren't advertised properly either. All in all a huge disappointment, the only good thing was the location.

After a short walk in the city we stopped on the terrace of the Meridiana to have a drink. The waiter didn't say hello, didn't smile and didn't thank you, with service worthy of a funeral home. This is the last time I'll set foot there. Unacceptable work in the Eureka and being so unpleasant in the service.... everything needs to be reviewed.

Beautifully situated with the largest terrace by the waterfall – unfortunately, the charm ends there. We had to wait a long time to even order a drink, and the server was extremely unfriendly. Paying also took forever. The atmosphere was anything but inviting. We therefore decided to just have a drink and eat somewhere else. What a shame about this beautiful place.

There were still a lot of places outside/inside free. But we were only allowed to sit there if we ordered food right away. First a drink and then food was absolutely not possible. So we first went to the neighbors for a drink, two tables further. After a drink at the restaurant next door we went back to them for dinner, there were four of us. The entire restaurant was empty but we could not get a place. After a bit of insistence, there were two tables for two free that were next to each other. When we asked if they could be pushed together, this was absolutely not possible, only sitting in pairs was possible. In short, bad service and in the end we had a good meal across the street. Still a shame that this business is so grumpy.

I personally can't recommend it. We were greeted with a rude tone: "Sit outside only if we want to stay there and not go inside." The food was far too expensive for what was offered: €18 for a pasta salmone al forno with just under 80g of salmon and dry pasta in a small bowl. More salmon and a bit more sauce would have made the portion more appetizing. For that price, at least other restaurants offer some bread and dip beforehand, which is a shame. The service at the table was more along the lines of "quickly finish work." They didn't ask if we needed anything, if it was tasty, if we wanted to order anything else, or if we wanted to drink something.

Nice place to sit but that's it. Never had ruder service, if you can't do something (like bringing a kids meal first so they cheer up) then ok but don't be so horrible about it. Anything we asked (which are fairly minimal/standard asks) was a no but very very rudely dismissed. With added complaints about their job. Lovely. Worst service I've ever had, makes you feel very unwelcome. Food was poor as well.

Strategic location, good value for money, the only downside was the service, a slightly angry waiter. If you don't like your job, you should go somewhere else.

Great italian restaurant very close to the waterfall. The pasta bolognese, carbonara, pizza and appel strudel were delicious. The pasta was perfect. Th3 waiters and staff were very nice and welcoming.

Pizza and Flamkuchen are great here! For good coffee you have to go to the neighbors (Italian ice cream bar). Had a lot of laughs at the schnitzel reviews here!

It's the Christmas market in Saarburg, something nice is being offered for children (carnival entertainment). It's cold, a 4-year-old is drinking children's punch and suddenly she urgently needs to go to the toilet, but the "local" employees refuse to do so. More “customer friendliness” is hard to beat. We were 5 people, we had never been so poorly served in a restaurant before. We left without finishing our meal, due to discrimination on the part of the Waiter, who interrupted our meal so that we could give up the table to other customers.

The view is a dream. Restaurant a disaster, staff very, very unfriendly. Carpaccio is served without bread and children's menu is not on the menu!!!! There are differences, regular customers get pasta with fresh shrimps and tourists get exactly 2 fresh shrimps, the rest cocktail shrimps from the freezer, at the same price!!!! Bruschetta was just drizzled with some tomatoes and olive oil. They don't ask, do you need anything? Would you like something else to drink? Nothing like it!!! I have never experienced anything so unfriendly and rude, unfriendly to children. This shop reflects none of the warm Italian passion that we actually know from Italy.

It couldn't be more central in Saarburg - and yet you can still get really good food here at fair prices. The antipasti are particularly recommended; very varied and generously put together; You will then be over-saturated with the main course. Professional, fast service, friendly staff.

Good hotel, However in the morning their were 2 ladies for servicing the breakfast. Both of them were very very unfriendly because we were arriving at 7h55 while the breakfast opens at 8h! All the rest of the staff were very friendly.

This place has nice terrace located just next to the river. It's amazing when it's sunny. Like scene out of a movie. Interior is also nice. Food is mid. Pizza is OK and Salad is OK. For me this place is best for drinks and coffee, eventually quick breakfast of croissant and coffee.

Normally I always look at the reviews before I eat somewhere. But the smell and tasty looking pizza attracted us to this cozy terrace. Now that I read the reviews, I would never have sat there, but we had a delicious meal and the service was friendly. We had a pasta Bolognese and a pizza parma. Pizza was delicious and tasty, nice thin base and well topped! The pasta, on the other hand, was a bit less, was good to eat but did not seem completely fresh. Staff was very friendly to us and location is great!

We were greeted with grumpy pointing to the table in the far corner, even though there was plenty free. There were crumbs and crusts under the table from the previous person, which our dog unfortunately took a closer look at. The juice spritzers came in a beer glass, with the contents spilling over and sticky handles. No sorry for that. I know otherwise. The actually simple dish “Tagliatelle with mushrooms in cream sauce” was simply a tragedy. Carelessly sliced ​​mushrooms in ready-made sauce. The granules were not completely dissolved. Just a shame, for €14.50. And what were the watery tomato pieces doing in there? Cherry tomatoes maybe, but that was nothing. Oh yes, and you only had a spoonful of pasta after you got up and walked to the counter. The two pizzas we ordered were terrible. The tuna on the tonno tasted very strong. When asked, we were assured that everything was VERY fresh. It tastes different in my house when it's fresh. The Parmer & Ruccola pizza was impossible to tame with the knife. The ham was way too thick and not edible. Was collected down and not consumed. Other guests were told at the table when they didn't want to order food but wanted coffee and tiramisu that the iced coffee was next door. In a tone that makes your ears flap. Unfriendly high three.

Very centrally located! Friendly staff! Unfortunately there are no dedicated parking spaces, but there is a parking lot 300 meters away where you can park for 2.50 euros/day.

Food was very tasty, fresh and the sauce was definitely not from the fix pack and perfectly seasoned, traditionally Italian. Service was very good and friendly. The ambience on the river cannot be topped. Really recommended.

Nice pizzeria right on the river. It's nice to sit outside and there are lots of shady places. Very old-fashioned inside and little space/cramped. Tagliatelle with chanterelles and pizza diavola were very good. In our opinion, the salad was too small for the asking price of €9.50.

What an arrogant waiter that served us and had to receive the money on the terrace. As you can read in other comments, walk past this as quickly as possible. This is also the reason why there was still so much space on their terrace compared to other terraces.

Hi guys. The first thing we heard from the waiter was eat or drink. No hello. We just ordered something to drink. The waiter who brought us the beer could hardly speak German. He didn't know what we were talking about either had a beer (Radler, freshly tapped). They treated everyone like that, which was a shame. We stuck with our drinks and went to eat somewhere else. I wouldn't go there again.

Location is great but service not. It took a while to get our drink order. The waiter brought the wrong (small) drinks for the second round, but tried to charge us for large drinks. Just a bit rubbish and unlike other much better experiences in other places.

What bad food here schnitzel very dry and thin. Spaghetti bologniase should not be eaten, it is too salty and comes straight from a jar. The waiter doesn't know what to laugh about, I think they are too busy for that. I can't recommend eating on the other side of the water.

Stopped here for some food. Smooth operation. First ordered some drinks and then 3 pizzas and a pasta dish. Different nationalities work together and they have a lot of fun together. We have been traveling in Saarland/Rhineland for a week and have never experienced such great, balanced and courteous service anywhere. We are traveling with children. The first thing we noticed was that the child himself was asked about his wishes. Then the apple spritzer would not be served clumsily in a large glass as usual, but rather a small, handy glass and a wine carafe would be used so that the child can then pour themselves more. The third thing we would like to emphasize is that although there is no children's menu, the spaghetti bolo that was ordered for the child was automatically brought as a children's portion. We were expecting a large portion and were very relieved that it was smaller. The waiter was always very friendly while serving you and took the time to listen to the child. The food also tasted very good. The ingredients are selected and coordinated with each other. The icing on the cake is that you have a wonderful view here. We can highly recommend it.

Never experienced such bad service. Hygiene regulations are not taken seriously. Waiters were just annoyed. We had to wait 20 minutes just for the bill. The guests are sorted - those who eat something are allowed to sit at a table on the water side, those who only drink something are seated at a table against the wall of the house.

Cozy restaurant at the famous waterfall. Fast and friendly service and delicious food with fresh quality ingredients. Recommended: tuna pizza fresh from the brick oven and the pasta scampi where the ratio of pasta and scampi was perfect. Small ones, size, always a nice texture with every bite you take. No rip off here! Price quality is fantastic

Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience today on our trip to Saarburg. The one star for the food is only because the starter was basically OK. My wife's main course, gnocchi with green asparagus in cream sauce, was a revelation (stuffy/listless). My main course was supposed to be an asparagus cordon bleu. This dish had nothing in common with its namesake and the asparagus was also... "spoiled"... a normal case for the WKD. The service staff tried hard and probably did their best, the space on the terrace was nice. Best wishes from guests who will definitely never come back.

In the restaurant we enjoyed a wonderfully juicy ham pizza, refined with extra garlic, as well as a tasty Parma pizza, which we both really enjoyed. The service was friendly and attentive, and our needs as a family were particularly courteous: a high chair was provided for us and enough space was made for the stroller. The idyllic location rounded off our culinary experience perfectly. We look forward to our next visit to enjoy these delicious pizzas again.

Lovely spot near the waterfall to grab lunch/dinner and drinks! The restaurant has a small menu, but the food was great. A lot of restaurants in town have strange hours and close in between lunch and dinner so it was nice to find a place that was open in between the lunch and dinner hours. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town!

I've been going there for years whenever I'm on vacation in Saarburg. I have always been well served and received the servers are multi-lingual. The dishes are careful and good, everything is fresh. The pastries and ice creams from the store next door (actually it's the same house) are to die for If you pass through Saarburg without having an ice cream, a pastry or eating in this restaurant, you have missed your visit to this city
