I don't mind the ambience (it's rather sparse at the tables, the walls and pillars are beautifully decorated) - the food is fantastic. Certainly already adapted to European palates, but closer to original Chinese cuisine than anything else I know from Cologne and the surrounding area. I didn't see any forks or knives anywhere either. Top. Really great, tasty and - be careful - spicy! We're talking about Szechuan cuisine here. And no, you can't choose what you want to eat less spicy, you have to find the right dishes (the special pork belly, for example, or the Judas ears salad (morels)) Definitely go.

The fish-flavored shredded pork is both sweet and sour, and I don’t know whether it knocked over the sugar bowl or the vinegar bottle. It’s really hard to describe. But the couple's lung slices and taro chicken are okay

Once again in Cologne, the restaurant was recommended to me as authentic Chinese cuisine. In any case, at least half of the guests were of Chinese origin - a good sign! And the food was great - with a large selection and an easy online ordering process. The staff and atmosphere are also very good - therefore a clear recommendation.

We waited 1h and 10 minutes on our food. Apparently they had no plates left that evening. Don't eat outside here, if you mind bugs . The wooden bench is full of them and just sitting a couple minutes on these will have your back be full of them. Inside looked good to eat however. The food felt quite authentic, also the style on how you eat and share food here, but what I ordered (Kung Pao Chicken) was simply not too great.

After waiting for more than 40 minutes (two kings), one hot dish and two cold dishes were served? ? ? I couldn't stand it and the longer I waited, the hungrier I got. After about an hour, I was ready to pay and leave. They said there was another dish in the pot? ? All the latecomers around us were served first and finished, and we only had one hot dish. The spicy sausage does not match the picture, it should be called spicy sausage.

Qualitative, very delicious and authentic Sizchuan cuisine. Family friendly and overall very friendly service. In our experience one of the best Chinese restaurants in Germany.

We love the food here and sometimes come to Cologne from Düsseldorf specifically for it, that's saying something 😉 The menu is exceptional and has dishes that you can sometimes only get here. Recommended with extra ⭐️

The spicy chicken and the spicy fish were great but the beans were old and they woman brought us flat Coca Cola with no gas from the bottle. A little disappointing but not at least it was real Chinese food.

Authentic food, nice service. Ordering via smartphone, sometimes you would have liked a little more description of the dishes or the level of spiciness, but it still worked well. Unfortunately the translations disappear when you go to the order page, so checking again what's in the "shopping cart" becomes difficult :D. Great Asian feeling and interesting experience for the taste buds. Nice and quick service.

I ordered steamed pork like this [19€] and it was drizzled with red oil. I told him that it tasted terrible, so I could only say it was edible. He even said with a playful smile, "Let's beg for it!" Quite philosophical!

The non-spicy dandan noodles are great!

We were there with friends, 4 adults and 3 children. Service was cheerful and friendly and we had a lot of fun eating. Ordered 8 dishes and all were very tasty. Kung Pao chicken, pointed cabbage with glass noodles, spicy fried eggplant, Sichuan tofu, fried cauliflower, lotus root with honey, cucumber salad and a dish with noodles and beef. All highly recommended. If you are looking for an authentic (Sichuan) Chinese restaurant in Cologne, I can fully recommend Höfchen.

At first it seems quite expensive, but it is worth the price! I had the beef in chili oil and at first thought that €20 would be a lot, but this dish is easily enough for four people! Anyone who manages to eat everything alone has probably consumed over 4000 kcal. Of course it's designed for chopsticks, so there's a lot of oil left over, but that would be a shame, so I took my huge leftover with me :) It's spicy - but very pleasant in the mouth, but scratchy in the throat and throat - had to cough a bit. My more European stomach doesn't tolerate the whole thing very well. But I also certainly chose the most intolerable dish. But for me that is a feature of authenticity. It tastes very balanced, spicy, umami and well prepared. I've been looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant for a long time and finally found it. The only stupid thing is that I was alone and couldn't try everything. I'd be happy to come back with several people and catch up on that. Absolute recommendation for food lovers who want to try real Chinese cuisine.

This is one of the best Sichuan restaurants that I can find in Europe 💓 The food is so authentic and to die for. Spicy chicken and twice cooked pork are top notch! You have to try the pork hock in spicy chilly oil, it’s a cold dish and it’s my favorite. Their desserts are very nice as well, all are my favorite 🤤 Their service is pretty good as long as you don’t have high expectations. 😉 In my experience, Chinese restaurants always have similar level of service. They are not talkative or they may seem to not care much. But they are focusing on what they are doing. As long as they don’t disrespect me, I honestly think that is authentic experience if you dine in Chinese restaurant. 😆 For all of these people who complained about service. In Chinese restaurant, if the service is good, there are 2 scenarios: either the food sucks, or it’ll be very expensive. I’ve been to a very good Sichuan restaurant in Amsterdam and it’s much more expensive than here but you get 5* service 😃 And for people who complained about the amount of oil they use, please google Sichuan food and see how they actually cook their food. 🥹 I do agree that their consistency is a little off. I’ve been here around 7-8 times and sometimes the seasoning is less on point than the other. Overall, the food is still good 👍🏻 I am Vietnamese but I love Sichuan food. I’ve trying so many Sichuan restaurants in the US and Eu and we have Sichuan friends too, they often explained to me how the food should taste like so I’m pretty confident with Sichuan cuisine 😆

TL;DR Höchfen is a really nice Sichuan restaurant in the heart of Köln with efficient servers and great food. Sichuan food is a bit different from what you are used to, so be sure to prepare to be surprised and delighted by what they can cook up. I highly recommend their Bowl Tea and Sichuan Haxen, but for a beginner's main course I would actually recommend Rindfleisch in Chiliöl which is my favourite dish of all time. Hönchen was, together with Hana's on the other side, one of the two restaurants that I really wanted to visit since I moved to Köln at the start of February. It located at the Barbarossaplatz and is a bit tucked in the corner. The restaurant specializes in Sichuan food, which is a kitchen which is very near and dear to my heart, since it is something that I make for myself whenever I can. Since this was my first time at an authentic Sichuan restaurant, I was very excited to see how those dishes are supposed to taste like. I went alone on a Saturday night at around 21, the restaurant was mostly empty when I arrived. I was given a table near the front next to a lovely group of Chinese women enjoying a nice night eating outdoors. They were wrapping up and asked the waiters whether they could take their leftovers home with them, which the waiters happily obliged. The restaurant uses a QR system to order, and the food arrives whenever the kitchen is done with it. There is a large selection of different dishes, including some good specialities and dishes that are authentically Chinese. In their culture, texture plays a much more important role than in Western food, so they eat parts of animals which are common here. Some examples to look out for are Cow's stomach and Duck's Blood, which feature fascinating and unique textures. I ordered the Sichuan Pickled Vegetables as an entrée and 东坡肘子 (Dong Po Pig's Knuckle) with rice. As a drink, I ordered the Bowl tea, which I had no idea what it was. My entrée was okay and nothing to really write home about. It was nice to have some vegetables, and they had a good crunch, but pickled greens remain pickled greens. The Pig's Knuckle on the other hand was a beautiful, large piece of meat that even impressed the ladies next to me, who looked with a certain jealousy at my main course. It tasted as good as it looked with the meat almost falling off from the bone and had a really tender texture. The dish was spicy, but not overwhelmingly so, and all the flavours were balanced nicely. The sauce paired nicely with the rice, and I had to resist my urge to eat all of it with my spoon. The portion was more than generous, and I could see myself eating this easily with one extra person and still feeling full afterwards Tea is always my indication of restaurant quality, since it is something that it is really easy to cut corners to make some easy money. What I am looking for is restaurants that really try to offer the whole experience, and Höchfen delivered this to a T. I was given a China cup with a bunch of flowers in it with a small plate and a massive jug of tea. After calling a quick helpline in the form of Chinese friends, who first spent five minutes laughing at me for drinking old man tea, I figured out that you put the plate over the cup so that there is a small slit left over that the water can come out of. They were not at all skimpy with the water, so I actually had to spend ten minutes on top of my meal to actually finish all the water. In conclusion, Höchfen is a great Sichuan restaurant that offers high quality food for relatively affordable prices. Chinese food is typically to share, which is reflected in the generous portion sizes. The restaurant offers a masterclass in how you serve tea to your customers, and I was sad that I didn't have time to have their Sticky Rice with Bean Paste dessert, since that looked delicious. I cannot wait to come back to have the Chengdu Fondue and experience more of this great kitchen.

The food here is very authentic. The card can be scanned using a QR code and the Chinese name is included with the dishes. There are also dishes that you cannot find in other Chinese restaurants (they are adapted to us Europeans), such as: Pig feet (which my husband (Croatian) also likes to eat sometimes). Not as adventurous as my husband, I got the pineapple fried chicken - it was some of the best chicken I've ever eaten! The sweet and sour sauce was also very creamy and not as runny as usual - very aromatic!!! I can highly recommend the restaurant :)!

Super friendly staff. The place was recommended to me by a Chinese woman as the authentic and best Chinese restaurant in Cologne. I can't say whether that's the case, but the food is excellent. Anyway, the best Chinese food I've ever had. And the portions are huge. Definitely come back.

It's really really really really delicious It's a restaurant where you can't measure the bag strap, and the stir-fried eggplant has more tripe than vegetables. The stir-fried eggplant is just heavenly. I'm looking forward to the future and thinking about trying all the menu items here🫶

Unrelaxed atmosphere, slow waiters, meat appeared in dishes which were described as vegetable dishes. Overall very oily and fatty, lower medium quality. Don’t serve coffee/ espresso. No beers on tap. Will not visit again.

Is right on Barbarossaplatz. The order is placed via the website, which can be viewed via the QR code at the table. Apart from that there is no real communication with the staff. Nevertheless, they came to help when called. The food seems expensive but you have to say the portions are really big. One meal is sometimes enough for 2 people. Rice is included for free. I really liked the food. It tasted authentic and also had a good spiciness. The atmosphere also went very well with the food. I can definitely recommend the restaurant

I thought the food was great! In my opinion, very authentic, not a Chinese restaurant that only serves sweet and sour duck. The staff was normal, not a bad experience. Ambience so-so, but anyone who has ever been to China should know that it is simply something different. Just culture :) I can recommend it!!

We had a fantastic evening here. After we stumbled in here once by chance as a couple, we now came back with a larger group. This way you can easily order more things and try different things. Insanely delicious food! However, the selection for vegetarians is somewhat limited.

They have great food. But the price is not cheap.

The best part is that you can specify that no chicken powder or MSG is added. Vegetarians also have many options. The portion size is medium to large. There is not a lot of meat in the boiled beef. It is well seasoned and not spicy. The bean sprouts inside are very fresh. Recommend the sweet-scented osmanthus, lotus root and eight-treasure rice Service is very good

Unfortunately need to give only 3 stars due to last experience. The food price is higher than average and you expect best quality. Unfortunately some meat dishes are dry and tasye like are cooked long time ago and then just reheated, some giving the impression of more than 24 hours. Other dishes are delicious , tasty and as spicy as they should be. It seems like there are two different restaurants and depending on your luck which one you get 😞

Tolle Auswahl an verschiedenen Gerichten, lecker und voller Geschmack! Nettes Ambiente. Soweit ich das beurteilen kann, ist es sehr authentisch. Wir waren innerhalb von einer Woche nach Entdeckung zweimal da, weil wir es so lecker fanden. Besonders die Auberginen mit Hackfleisch! Vorsicht aber, es kann sehr scharf sein!

Wir sind zu zweit, haben 2 Hauptgerichte bestellt. Die Mitarbeiterin hat nur für meinen Man gebracht. Mein Mann hat schon fertig gegessen und mein Essen kommt immer noch nicht. Ich will nicht mehr essen und sag mit Mitarbeiterin, ich will nicht mehr essen, müssen Sie nicht bringen. Sie hat gesagt, das geht's nicht. Küche hat schon gekocht, muss ich essen. Und ich muss noch 10min warten. Dann mein Essen kommt, aber Kartoffeln ist noch hart, nicht durch. Ich war unzufrieden. Nie wieder!!

Bien accueilli par le personnel. Commande se fait électroniquement avec QR Code pour afficher le menu sur son smartphone, puis ajout des plats dans un panier pour envoyer à la cuisine avec un bruit qui y résonne. Nombreux plats pour tous les goûts, bien servis en quantité et en qualité. Préparez néanmoins bien vos gorges et prenez une bonne quantité d'eau !

Mein 干锅鸡 war sehr schmackhaft. Es hatte viel frisches Gemüse, darunter aber vorwiegend Kartoffel, und war eine große Portion. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Das Restaurant ist sehr schön und stilvoll eingerichtet. Der Preis ist mit EUR 18,80 für deutsche Verhältnisse hoch.

Sehr authentisches leckeres Essen. Aber es sollte vielleicht etwas weniger scharf sein. Für mich als Scharf-Esser ist das kein Problem, für andere könnte es aber wirklich zu viel sein.

Nachdem Frau Floß das Restaurant im KStA empfohlen hat, haben wir es am Sonntagabend zu 4 Personen ausprobiert und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Das Essen ist sehr gut, unterscheidet sich deutlich von dem was normalerweise in Chinarestaurants angeboten wird und kommt dem, was wir auf Asienreisen erlebt haben sehr nahe. Gäste waren zu 90% asiatischer Herkunft was auch auf die Qualität hindeutet. Bestellt wir über eine Webseite, die Man am Tisch per QR-Code aufruft. Die Gerichte kommen nacheinander auf den Tisch, so wie sie in der Küche zubereitet wurden. Man bestellt als besser für die Gruppe als für die Einzelnen und lässt es sich gemeinsam schmecken. Das Personal ist freundlich, man darf aber keinen Standardservice erwarten, der fragt was man möchte, ob es schmeckt, etc. Das gehört aber zum Konzept und passt alles zusammen. Wir werden auf alle Fälle wiederkommen.

今天我们在这里点了冰粉、肥肠、青椒小煎鸡、肝腰合炒。 冰粉做的类似于甜点冰粉，略有些腻。 肥肠完全失败，又干又没入味，最后我们基本上没吃。 小煎鸡和肝腰合炒的味道不错，吃的出来做法是正宗的，但是勾芡的水平还可以提高。

Came here with a friend who had been recommended by a Chinese colleague, and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and came in gigantic portions. Rice is for free! And you can pay by credit card which is a huge plus. 10/10 clear recommendation!

Sehr gutes Essen und schnelle Bedienung. Unkomplizierte Bestellung über die online Funktion auch im Lokal. Das Personal ist korrekt, allerdings auch nicht so richtig freundlich. Dafür aber effizient. Die Preise sind schon etwas höher, als man erwarten würde, insbesondere die Getränke sind nicht günstig.

Ein chinesischer Arbeitskollege hat uns das Restaurant als authentische Sichuan-küche empfohlen und wir wurden nicht enttäuscht. Die Portionen sind auch ordentlich und das Personal sehr freundlich.

I'm going to give 5 stars because the food is soooo good and we love coming here. But in reality there are some items that can be improved. I have to recommend the fish in spicy oil and then add the 2 types of tofu and rice noodles. Yum! It's expensive (and very spicy) but so good you want to share the experience with friends and family. Fried green beans and the spicy noodles with beef. Cool your mouth off with a cold TsingTao. Dang, so delicious!! The first time we went we ordered directly with the servers, but every time since we have to order from the app/qr code, which frequently gives us trouble, like we can't add special instructions or the quantities sometimes get messed up. Also, they don't really play any music, which I think could help to improve the atmosphere.

3个人点了9个菜基本都吃完了，人均45左右，分量有点少尤其是凉菜但是味道不错，酸萝卜老鸭汤很好喝

绝对不新鲜，吃完当天晚上就不舒服，第二天就急性肠胃炎。而且菜又咸又油，真的好难吃。

Eines der besten chinesischen Restaurants in Köln, sehr authentische Gerichte von Chinesen bestätigt, freundliches Team, sauberes und gepflegtes Ambiente. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Sehr gutes und authentisches chinesisches Essen. Wir waren schon mehrfach hier und es hat uns immer überzeugt.

Ein kleines aber feines Lokal für authentisches chinesisches Essen. Der doppelt gebratene Schweinebauch war unser Highlight und geschmacklich überragend. Die DanDan Nudeln sowie das Rindfleisch im Hotpot ist ebenfalls sehr zu empfehlen. Lediglich der Gurkensalat war etwas enttäuschend und weniger geschmacksintensiv als gewohnt. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. 5/5 und Empfehlung für Kenner und Liebhaber der chinesischen Küche, sowie Neuentdecker die Lust auf mehr als nur Bratnudeln haben.

Das Essen was man hier bekommt ist authentisch und nicht wie in vielen anderen chinesischen Restaurants europäisch angepasst. Genau das finde ich jedoch sehr gut da man so auch mal was neues ausprobieren kann. Es hat mir sehr gut geschmeckt hier und auch die Portionen sind groß. Die Preise sind in Ordnung aber auch nicht wirklich günstig. Der Service ist leider nicht besonders gut, aber darüber kann man bei dem leckeren Essen hinwegsehen. Wir waren zu zweit hier und ich habe meine Hauptspeise bekommen und die von meinem Kumpel wurde leider komplett vergessen. Ärgerlich. Aber nachdem wir dann nachgefragt hatten ging es relativ flott und mein Kumpel hatte sein essen, was laut seiner Aussage auch sehr gut geschmeckt hat. Da ich erst einmal hier war kann es auch gut sein, dass das Personal nur einen schlechten Tag hatte, daher gibt es immerhin 4/5 Sternen.

Für mich mit das beste chinesische Restaurant in Köln. War mittlerweile schon einige Male dort und es war jedesmal exzellent. Auf der Speisekarte findet man Speisen, die man in den meisten chinesischen Restaurants nicht findet. Laut chinesischen Bekannten ist es eins der authentischsten chinesischen Restaurants in Köln, was man auch an den Gästen merkt. Jedes mal waren vor Ort etwa 90% der Gäste mit chinesischem Hintergrund, was für mich ein ausgezeichnetes Zeichen ist. Die Speisekarte hat eine große Auswahl an Speisen, die ich persönlich so noch nicht kannte. Somit habe ich jedesmal völlig neue Geschmacksnoten entdecken können, was sehr spannend ist. Die Speisen werden sehr schön serviert und die Bedienung ist auch sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Werde das Restaurant in jedem Fall noch öfters besuchen!

Das Essen war mega lecker. Eine chinesische Freundin hatte es uns als ein 'absolut authentisches' Restaurant für chinesisches Essen empfohlen und auch die Gäste vor Ort schienen das so zu sehen, denn es waren sehr viele chinesische Mitbürger/Touristen in Restaurant. Und das Essen was wirklich seeeehr lecker, ganz anders als das chinesische essen, das man sonst so von chinesischen Restaurants in Deutschland kennt. So lecker und interessant gewürzt!!! Kann nur empfehlen hier Mal essen zu kommen.

Wir haben außerordentlich gut und außerordentlich scharf gegessen. In jedem Fall einen Besuch wert! Tipp: Kommt vor acht, die Plätze sind abends zunehmend voll. Authentische chinesische Küche, wie ich sie so noch nie gegessen habe.

Sehr lecker, definitiv einen Besuch wert. Schönes, helles Ambiente, freundlicher Service. Die Speisen waren alle sehr authentisch, meist scharf - aber für Kenner genau richtig… die Hauptgerichte sind üppig, Preis / Leistung ist gut. Getränke sind knapp an der Schmerzgrenze bepreist, das ist wahrscheinlich ein Phänomen aktueller Umstände… Danke, wir kommen gerne wieder!

菜品质量不行，这么大份毛血旺里面全是血，一片毛肚，三小段大肠，两片午餐肉。 味道油腻不辣，青菜都很油，一般吧，来之前期待过高了。

Für uns die beste Adresse um in Köln chinesisch essen zu gehen. Lieber Service, nicht klassisch geschult, aber freundlich und korrekt. Das Essen ist fantastisch, große Portionen und „echt“ chinesisch (Szechuan Region).

So weit an Original-Sechuan-Style dran, wie es in Köln geht. Yum-yum!

Sichuan restaurant with some great hits. The chili oil beef was fantastic while the classic Szechuan green beans and braised eggplant were okay. Service is great and never would I have thought a 0.5L weissbier would pair so well with spicy Sichuan food 👌

Authentische chinesische Küche! Es ist ein klarer Unterschied zu vielen anderen chinesischen Restaurants hier in Deutschland erkennbar. Die Dampfnudeln muss man allerdings schnell essen (werden sonst trocken). Das Sauerkraut, das dabei war, hat nicht viel mit dem Sauerkraut hierzulande gemein — war aber trotzdem lecker. Das Rindfleisch mit Chiliöl ist recht scharf (gut, ist ja Chiliöl drin ...). Das Personal ist recht wortkarg, Bestellungen laufen übers Smartphone.

Good restaurant. Food is well presented and very delicious. Services are great, all very friendly. Ordering via scan QR code by mobile phone. Restaurant has nice simple decoration, nice atmosphere. Definitely will go back again. Reservation is needed. It was no empty table during the evening we visited.

Wir haben unbestellte Gericht bekommen. Ich habe es sofort dem Kellner gesagt. Aber er ist nur aufgeregt und behaupte, dass dies kein unserer Bestellfehler sei. Wir haben ein paar Minuten disuktiert. Schließlich müssten wir nur das akzeptieren, ihn zu beruhigen... Das war eine grausame Erfahrung. Außerdem versteht er nicht so gut deutsch. Wenn Sie kein Chinese sind, müssen Sie bei Bestellung vorsichtig sein. Das Essen schmeckt gut. Aber ich habe von den Bewertungen mehr erwartet.

Wir hatten das Fondue. Es war reichlich, lecker und scharf 🌶. Endlich mal authentisches asiatisches Essen. Wir kommen wieder!!
