Ein fantastisches kulinarisches Erlebnis! Ich war gestern Abend zum erstem Mal im Hindukusch Restaurant und war begeistert. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön und gemütlich zugleich. Der Service war freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Essen war das absolute Highlight! Wir hatten die Hindukusch Grillplatte und Mantu bestellt. Man merkt, das hier mit frischen Zutaten gearbeitet wird. Das Joghurt Getränk 'Dooch' mit frischer Gurke, ist auch sehr zu empfehlen. Die Portionen waren großzügig und die Qualität des Essens ist den Preis auf jeden Fall wert. Ich komme gerne wieder und kann das Restaurant Hindukusch jedem weiterempfehlen, der gutes Essen und ein schönes Ambiente zu schätzen weiß.

I went to the Hindu Kush restaurant for the first time last night and was thrilled! The atmosphere is very nice and cozy at the same time. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was the absolute highlight: we had the grill plate and mantu. The yogurt drink “Dooch” with fresh cucumber is also highly recommended. You can tell that fresh and high-quality ingredients are used here. The portions were generous, and the quality of the food is totally worth the price. I will definitely come back and can recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food and a nice ambience.

Last night I was a guest at the Hindu Kush restaurant for the first time. The welcome was reserved but friendly. The restaurant is cozy and the ambience seems authentic. The food was absolutely convincing and tasted very tasty. It certainly won't be my last visit.

Very tasty in a very nice atmosphere.

The food was delicious but the service needs to learn what constitutes good conditions. The waiter simply chews gum, which I found to be unfriendly. The young man who brought the food interrupted our conversation several times in a very rude manner. The food was good! But the operation should train a little more.

If you like Afghan food, this is a very good choice.

Just amazing food… has the saffron rice with fried Aubergine and Lamb. One of the best meals I have had in a long time, with a good price as well. Would gladly go back often.

Wir wollte nur etwas zum Mitnehmen aber für 18 Euro hätte man sich mehr Fleisch gewünscht. Es waren nur 8 Stück kleine Fleischstücke aber dafür sehr viel Reis . Sehr enttäuscht und kommen nie wieder

The best Afghan food in town. The people are nice and welcoming. When the weather is good you can sit outside and enjoy the calm street. Inside the decorations are super nice as well. About the food, Mandus are sooooo good. Also, Palau rice with zucchini/aubergine + lamb is amazing.

Unfortunately, absolutely disappointing. The salad was super boring (iceberg), the rice was OK but not special. The turkey meat was still almost raw. We won't come again.

Attention: the restaurant has a new address: Rutschbahn 34. This is a childhood favorite of mine, have been going to their location in Grindelhof forever. The food tastes pretty much home made, portions are generous and there are also vegetarian options. The new location is more spacious, the food as yummy as usual!

This is really the best Afghan restaurant I know. The food is always super tasty and fresh. The furnishings are very nicely decorated in an oriental style. The service was great. If you don't go there, you're missing out on really delicious Afghan food.

The food and the reviews definitely match. It was super tasty, warm and fresh. We had the crispy, delicious Bolani including the delicious yoghurt sauce, a plate of Mantu (nice and big and tasty) and two chicken skewers which were incredibly juicy and tender and served with Palau. Why I write big about the Mantu is because there are two other restaurants in Hamburg that also serve delicious Mantu, but you won't get full from them because they are so small and far too few. However, here in Hindu Kush they were big and tasty, also filling! As for the service, everyone was super nice and friendly. We were given a place straight away without a reservation, but we had called beforehand and asked if there was space available. The food came quickly and fresh. Regarding the ambience of the store, I find the beautiful seating very comfortable and orientally decorated. The location of the toilet is a bit awkward and is basically next to the counter and the door needs to be replaced so that there is a proper separation in the restaurant and no smells or anything else comes through. But I don't think that bothers you too much, unless you're sitting opposite the door. (Not in our case) What I find sad about the menu is that there was no real Afghan shirjakh, although the waiter immediately mentioned that it was just vanilla ice cream. If there had been real Afghan shirjakh there, I would have given the food 5 out of 5 stars. Maybe the kitchen will consider introducing this in the future. On the subject of access for disabled people/wheelchair users: small elevation in the entrance, toilets not accessible because of several short steps.

The best Afghan in Hamburg. The ambience is great and the food is even better. You have the feeling that you are eating at your Afghan grandma's because it tastes very traditional and homemade. The staff is very friendly and tries very hard to make the guests happy. An insider tip and a must visit in Hamburg!!!!

So much to say about this restaurant! The food was excellent 🤩, the service was very good, don't hesitate to ask the waiters any questions! Based on our visit to this restaurant, we unfortunately have to give a rather negative review. The dishes offered, such as Aash-e Quruti, Mashawa and Teka Kebab, did not meet expectations of authentic and high quality Afghan cuisine. Defects in preparation The Aash-e Quruti, a traditional lamb soup, unfortunately tasted burnt and stale. The mashava, a lamb dish, was very bland and did not seem to have been carefully prepared. The Teka Kebab, consisting of thin pieces of meat on a skewer, was also not convincing. Price-performance ratio unsatisfactory Given the fairly high prices, we would have expected the quality of the food to be significantly better. The portion sizes, especially for the Teka Kebab, were rather small. Doubts about professional competence We had to ask ourselves whether there were actually trained chefs with experience in Afghan cuisine working in the kitchen. The lack of care in preparation and the lack of taste raise doubts. Conclusion Even though we generally welcome the restaurant's efforts to present Afghan food culture, we have to admit that the implementation here was unfortunately not convincing. Instead of a positive experience, we have a negative impression of this restaurant. We hope that the restaurant takes the criticisms seriously and makes improvements in the recipe, preparation and quality control to do justice to authentic Afghan cuisine.

Not a place for Muslims during Ramadan.

Excellent Afghan food with reasonable portions for fair prices. However, I can only make one statement about the vegetarian/vegan dishes. Special requests are taken into account and many dishes could easily be ordered vegan. Questions were always answered in a friendly manner, the service was reserved but very friendly! I will definitely come back.

Unfortunately I can't understand the previous reviews. We were constantly forgotten over drinks. Ordered special requests were not fulfilled on the first try (fries instead of rice). The proportion of meat in a 20€ dish was extremely clear. Pistachios not present in Saffron Palau. The dishes for 4 people were not delivered promptly, so they were brought at the same time and then cold. Twice they brought us things that weren't ordered. The location is very cozy, but the evening definitely didn't go well. The highlight was asking questions when covering. Him: Did it taste good? Us: Nope. Him: Okay.. We were just amazed.

What a gem. The food is excellent and really good value for money. Vegan options are available. Warm ambience, staff are efficient and friendly. Definitely recommend!

It was a big shock when I had wanted to visit the Hindu Kush again for a few years and the restaurant was no longer there. Luckily, the restaurant had just moved and was still located in the area, so I was still able to enjoy it with my companion that evening Afghan food came. The restaurant is now larger and offers more space, the traditional furnishing style with the oriental carpets has remained and gives the restaurant a cozy ambience. In terms of food, there is a lot to choose from, some dishes are listed several times with different rice variations. The food itself was very tasty, the portions were good, the prices were cheap - medium priced. The waiter was very friendly and attentive and had a good charisma. If you like traditional Afghan cuisine or would like to try it, I can highly recommend the Hindu Kush. We would be happy to come back.

The Hindu Kush is my favorite restaurant for Afghan cuisine in Hamburg. Here you can get various classics of Afghan cuisine such as curries and stews, Afghan ravioli, various starters and bread specialties such as Bolani. There are both meat dishes and a large selection of vegetarian dishes. You can also order various vegan dishes. Here the yoghurt is even replaced with vegan yoghurt and not just left out, which is really great. The food is very flavorful and the portion sizes are reasonable. The selection of drinks including wine is also good. The service is friendly and quick. The prices are appropriate for the quality and quantity. Since the restaurant is very popular but not very large, it is advisable to make a reservation. You don't always get a spot spontaneously. I can highly recommend the Hindu Kush restaurant.

Great food in a pleasant environment.

Das Ambiente ist zwar Schlicht aber gemütlich, was viel wichtiger ist ist das Essen und das war richtig gut, für einige kann es zu wenig Fleisch sein aber wir fangen alles genau richtig portioniert.

Autentischer Ort wenn man seit 1978 das betrachtet aber sehr gute Küche und schon lange nicht mehr eine so gute Lammkeule gegessen. Basmatireis ist zu empfehlen.

Sehr gutes, authentisches Essen in einer schlichten, sehr passenden Atmosphäre. Ein besonderes Geschmackserlebnis, die Dips zur Vorspeise sind super und es gibt erfreulich viele vegetarische Gerichte.

Wir haben Kofta und Palau bestellt. Das war sehr lecker! Die Getränkepreise sind überdurchschnittlich hoch, daher ein Stern weniger. Ansonsten sehr empfehlenswert und gerne wieder!

Ich komme aus Berlin und war beruflich in Hamburg. Da wollte ich dem Hindukusch einen zweiten Besuch abstatten. Aber das Restaurant war weg! Vielmehr war da ein Loch zwischen zwei Häusern. Das Gebäude wurde abgerissen. Ok, Handy raus und Suchmaschine aktiviert und da stand es. Das Hindukusch hat einen anderen Standort und ist nicht weit entfernt und befindet sich jetzt an der Rutschbahn. Es ist jetzt ein wenig größer und moderner, aber immer noch sehr traditionell. So, jetzt aber worum es geht: Um das Essen.Ich hatte zwei Lammspieße, Spinat und Reis. Zu Trinken gab es Do (afghanische Antwort auf Ayran, ich liebe beides). Die Spieße waren so zart und lecker. Das schöne daran war, dass es nicht zu extrem nach Lamm schmeckte. Der Spinat harmonierte dazu optimal und war ebenfalls top. Beim ersten Besuch ist mir gar nicht aufgefallen wie gut der Reis schmeckt, weil ich mich zu sehr auf das Fleisch konzentrierte. Den könnte man einfach so ohne alles bestellen, einfach gut. Vegetarier und Veganer würden hier damit auf Ihre Kosten kommen.Ich hab aber lieber Fleisch dabei. Da ich happy und pappsatt war, ging leider kein Nachtisch mehr in meinem Bauch. Toller Laden: Essen, Personal und authentische Location. Ick komm‘ wieder

Das Restaurant ist ungezogen und liegt nun etwa 200 meter entfernt in der Rutschbahn 34. Das Alte Haus wurde abgerissen.

Nicht zu empfehlen! Wir hatten die Grillplatte für 2 Personen. Alles sehr trocken, kein Geschmack, die Lammkoteletts bestanden nur aus Fett, kein Gramm Fleisch dran. Preis-Leistung unterirdisch. Für das Geld kann man überall anders qualitativ viel besser essen!

Waren für 2 Tage in Hamburg und gingen hier essen. Die Gerichte waren gut abgeschmeckt und lecker. Können wir empfehlen!

Das war unsere erster Besuch in einem afghanischen Restaurant, wir sind also durch unsere Neugierde dort "reingetrieben" worden und waren begeistert. Das Ambiente war anscheinend durchaus lokal angehaucht, man sah es am internationalen Publikum. Sehr zuvorkommende freundliche Bedienung. Das Essen war sehr schmackhaft, gut gewürzt aber nicht scharf, einfach lecker.

im Univiertel am Grindel gelegen, besonders warme Atmosphäre , gute afghanische Gerichte mit braunem Reis, nette Bedienung, besonders zu empfehlen auch die Nachspeise, pudding mit orientalischen Gewürzen

Der Besuch hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt, ein tolles Geschmackserlebnis!! Das Lammfleisch war zart, Gemüse und Spinat perfekt gekocht und gut gewürzt. Der Gewürzreis war hervorragend! Auch die Bedienung sehr nett und zuvorkommend, wir haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt!

Der Safranpilau war ok, dafür war das Lammfleisch sehr zart, das Gemüse leider etwas überkocht. Die wirklich sehr gute Überraschung war das Kardamoneis! Es ist köstlich mit etwas Rosenwasser und gemahlenen Pistazien verfeinert und nicht zu süß. Der Safrantee ist auch zu sehr empfehlen. Ich wünschte wir hätten in Köln so ein afghanisches Restaurant! Der Service war etwas langsam, dafür aber sehr nett. Insgesamt ein überraschend schöner Abend in einem unprätentiösen Restaurant.
