Herzog in München

The agreed-upon sparkling wine reception didn't happen, the waiter took forever to bring salt, the food was cheap, and the salad was canteen quality, so we sent it back. We can't fathom how it got a 4.5-star rating. What happened to the Duke?

We were there for drinks. I ordered an espresso martini. There was more foam than drink in the glass—because it was poured from the tap. The bartender told me, "Sorry, I can't do anything about it, every drink looks like that." I said, "Try pouring it properly. It works with beer, depending on the angle." Then he made another one, and it was just as bad. I asked if I could get a spoon to remove the foam and just scoop out the martini. Nope. They didn't have one. Okay, so I poured both into one glass with 50% (!) foam. Then the waiter came and said, "Yeah, sorry, that's two drinks now." I had to argue with the manager. Instead of saying, "Sorry, we messed up. The drink isn't how it should be..." the manager protected his guy and said, "Okay, it's super cold, hence the thick foam." He told me I should be glad I got two drinks??? 😂 Sorry, not sorry. You screwed up! Thanks for nothing. It tastes like kopiko with water. Side note: the espresso martini costs €15. Never again. Munich has more to offer.

Herzog is always our first choice for a great evening in a stylish bar with good music. The host (Dirk) does a fantastic job; there's absolutely nothing to complain about!

When I politely asked for a pen outside the restaurant, the employee insulted me, calling me homeless, and adopted a derogatory tone when I asked him for one. Finally, he presumed to assert territorial and authoritarian claims, claiming to be the boss of the place, and ordered me to "piss off from here".

Update from June 16, 2023 There were four of us, and we had an excellent spot inside at the long table. Unfortunately, 5 stars is the limit, because the food has improved even further since the charming top chef Alexander Högner (formerly a chef at Tim Mälzer's) took over the kitchen. 😍 After his excellent advice, our expectations were high and were completely met. I would especially like to highlight the fantastic desserts – a dream! Visually and in terms of taste. We will be back soon, as the competent and very friendly service team also made our evening wonderful! Thank you! We were here for a small private celebration in accordance with the COVID-19 regulations. Exemplary implementation at Herzog and friendly enforcement – ​​unfortunately necessary. Overall, simply a very successful evening with such friendly service that we will definitely be back more often! The wine we had was perfect, and above all, the food! The truffle tartare was divine, as was the incredibly tender and perfectly cooked beef fillet, beautifully medium-rare! 😍 And the dessert – absolutely delicious! Overall, it was a wonderful evening and a thoroughly positive experience. I highly recommend stopping by – after shopping or after work. Update January 11, 2025 Yesterday, I celebrated my birthday with friends. It was so warmly and lovingly prepared, as was the welcome, and there was even a super delicious and special birthday cake, plus an extra colorful balloon for me! Thank you, Maximilian, and the entire team! The food was outstanding again!! The enormous entrecote was a dream 😍😍. The pictures almost speak for themselves, but the cuisine is truly amazing. We'll definitely be back more often in 2025! Oh, and the music on Friday was great too!

Absolutely unbelievable. First and last visit. We had a reservation, but there weren't enough chairs at our table. The music was so incredibly loud that you couldn't have a conversation – even when we politely asked, the music wasn't turned down. At 9 p.m., we couldn't order any more cocktails because the bartender was "too busy and couldn't manage" (it was a Saturday night). To top it off, we were asked to pay separately. The waitress rolled her eyes and said that if we really wanted to, it would take 20 minutes to organize, so one person should pay, and "you can just pay for it." The service was absolutely terrible; none of us have ever experienced anything like it. Go somewhere else, folks.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a particularly good visit. The waiters seemed totally dissatisfied and unfriendly—it almost felt like you were a nuisance. What was particularly negative was that they simply wrote down the tip themselves without asking—that's completely unacceptable. The drinks were okay, but the service ruined the entire evening. It's a shame, because the bar actually had potential.

We waited 40 minutes. The waiters were all drunk. The Aperol Baum was very good, though, with good cocktails. It was just annoying because of the waiters.

The first booking was canceled due to a lucrative event. Ultimately, however, the second attempt resulted in a lovely evening with excellent food and exquisite drinks and cocktails. While the food menu is very limited, everything on offer is certainly delicious and prepared with love. The service is also very attentive and customer-oriented.

Herzog is one of the best bars in Munich if you’re looking for a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The service is always perfect: friendly, fast, and professional. Their real strength is cocktails: from a great selection of gins to one of the best Espresso Martinis in the city, every drink is crafted with care and tastes amazing. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a laid-back evening with excellent drinks.

Always check your bills before leaving the bar. The bearer tried to scam us for the drinks we never had. After asking for the invoice for 4 times and 3 attempts, we found out that they made us pay for more drinks than we had. First we paid 90€ and then they apologized that was a mistake and they gave us the bill from a different table but second time again, we were charged for the the drinks never had. After a short discussion, they agreed to pay back the over paid money. I am very disappointed by the service.

The ambiance is truly beautiful. The decor, the lighting, and the location are truly inviting. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the food for the price. Essentially, it's an expensive fast-food offering, which, while unusual with its truffles, lobster, and fillet, ultimately lacks flavor. We had the truffle tarte flambée and the lobster. It's not bad, and you can see the skill of the chef. With higher-quality ingredients, it would certainly be a good concept. The service is trying hard, but you can clearly tell they're trying to sell you, as well as that the staff aren't trained. I read the review in the guide, but I can't confirm that. The restaurant has great potential.

We had reserved a table for two people for drinks at 6:00 PM on a Saturday. We were immediately told to wait at the bar until we were assigned a table. Three tables directly behind us became available after a short time. After asking three times and being assured that we hadn't been forgotten, two guests who had only just arrived after we had already been there for 45 minutes were seated at the table. Then, when we tried to pay, we were charged double for our drinks. The price was corrected, but there was no apology for not getting a table. We left the bar at 6:50 PM and won't be returning.

Food is good but service could be improved.

Here for a business event. Atmosphere is incredible, bar is high-class, service impeccable. 4/5 since the meat was not juicy, but rather dry. Would I be back for a cocktail? 💯

Last night, we spontaneously stopped by for a delicious dinner. The kitchen team delivered some truly exquisite delicacies (although the photo of the tartar is a bit blurry from my excitement ;) and Florian Güttler and his team not only provided first-class service but also treated us to some truly excellent wines.

We dropped in spontaneously this evening and were immediately greeted and served in a very friendly manner. Excellent wine recommendation, and the food was also excellent! Florian and his team handle the service nonchalantly and with great enthusiasm, superbly attentive, yet always relaxed. Very, very nice!

A dump with too good a reputation. If you want to be part of the crowd, you'll be in good hands here. If you value good service, probably not. It's a shame, because the atmosphere there is actually really nice. It could be better!

Waited 45 minutes for two drinks, complained to the waiter why the others in front of us had already gotten their drinks, the only thing he said was that you have to be patient but he flirted with customers the whole time and had no focus on his job while he leisurely drank his cocktail, first time there and never again.

What was that yesterday? It was my boyfriend's birthday, and I reserved a table especially for the occasion. When we arrived, we were told at the entrance to get to the back of the line, where others who had reservations would be standing. Nobody asked our names or anything else. So there we stood, while people ahead of us in the line who didn't have reservations were gradually let in. After about 25 minutes, we were let in, handed a menu on the way there, and sat down at a table outside that had been free the entire time we'd been in line. We were ignored again, and after about 20 minutes, we finally managed to get someone to order something. The waitress (or busboy?) then said we should order from someone else, food definitely, but she could take drinks. A short time later, someone came and explained to us that they were understaffed due to illness. When we tried to order food from him, he told us the kitchen was closed. I wanted to go out for a nice meal and drinks for my boyfriend's birthday. Instead, despite having a reservation, we waited a long time for our seats, then for someone to even take our order, and ultimately missed the kitchen's opening hours. The evening was completely ruined for us. The whole thing was unprofessional and disappointing. Even though the employees, at least the three we spoke to, were nice, that shouldn't happen in a place like this.

Unglaublich schlechter Service, komplett überfordert. Wir haben 1.5h aufs Essen gewartet, was zugegebener Weise echt gut war. Man konnte nur keinerlei Auskunft geben, wie was zubereitet wurde. Teuer, stickig, eng bestuhlt. Nach mehrmaligem Nachfragen haben wir dann zumindest etwas zu Trinken bekommen. Allerdings kam die 2. Runde nicht mehr, genauso wenig die nachbestellten Saucen, die allerdings auf der Rechnung standen. Fazit: Nein Danke! Wir kommen nicht wieder. Wirklich nicht gut und versnobt.

Nice party vibes when there are events. Good food and nice service

Saturday, 4:30 p.m.: The terrace was occupied by only four tables. After the receptionist had given us a table after extensive checking on his iPad, we tried for 10-15 minutes to get the waitress's attention. We were simply fobbed off with the assurance that a server would be right over. Things then got bizarre when the entire wait staff opened a bottle of champagne for themselves to celebrate what seemed like a terrific business. Luckily for the owner, we definitely won't be coming back. Stereotypical of many a Munich restaurateur, who seems to want to base their business model solely on magnum bottles, corporate events, and wannabe influencers with infantile "Aperol Spritz trees."

Overall, unfortunately, disappointing. We were there on a Thursday. We waited more than an hour for food and had to ask several times. No service or apology. They just said there were only two people in the kitchen. We practically had to force a refund, which is more than disappointing given the steep prices. The food tasted good. Overall, we had hoped for more and wouldn't recommend it.

We went there for dinner. Initially, we were served quickly, but when we ordered a second round, we waited 40 minutes. We waited a total of 1.5 hours for the main course 😬 and there was no apology or anything on the house. It's a real shame; unfortunately, we won't be eating there again. The price-performance ratio isn't right, in my opinion.

Überhaupt nicht mehr zu empfehlen. Früher toll. Tische werden nicht mehr abgeräumt, an unserem Tisch liegen Scherben vom Nachbartisch. Nach ca 20 Minuten wurden wir von der Bedienung registriert. Signatur Cocktail höchst fragwürdig und mit höchst fragwürdiger Deko die einen nur noch verwundert zurück lässt und eklig klebrig am Glas runter läuft. Nachdem die Bedienung gesehen hat dass wir die Bewertung schreiben hat Sie noch versucht das Dilemma zu retten und 2 Liquid aufs Haus gebracht. Sie hat sich bei uns entschuldigt, da wir offensichtlich von ihrer Kollegin ohne ihrem Wissen platziert wurden. Leider nicht mehr.

Great place. Food delicious. Service was super friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately there was no salt and pepper with the steak, the side dish came when the steak had already been eaten (waiting wasn't an option as it would otherwise be cold) and there was no sugar with the espresso and unfortunately the waitress was too busy to ask about it promptly. The lady was super nice, but it was still missing. Too bad.

Pleasant atmosphere, delicious drinks, friendly staff

We've been to the Herzog's twice so far (once in December and once in March) and both times we were pampered from start to finish. The food, drinks and service were A1. Even our dog was always welcome and given something to drink. We come by here at least once when we are in Munich. We look forward to seeing you next time!

I ordered the fish dish and it was extremely tasty. The onion soup was also very tasty.

The atmosphere was very nice. The staff was very friendly. The two-person presentation we chose was really delicious. But I find that the choice of dishes is limited. The wine list is very diverse. Prices for both food and drinks are a bit high. But it is an ideal place for an evening to be spent with enjoyment.

Great, finer restaurant. The price is correspondingly more expensive. Really tasty though. We had the chicken burger for €17. It was also a great service with friendly staff. The negative point was the table arrangement. You couldn't really have a conversation without being disturbed because the tables were so close together. I couldn't really pass when I went to the toilet because the wall behind the armchairs was too narrow and I had to go between the tables, which only worked by sucking in my stomach. So that was really annoying, otherwise a great restaurant.

Herzog offers a fantastic cocktail experience! The atmosphere is the perfect mix of classy and cozy, allowing you to relax and enjoy great conversations with friends. The staff is welcoming and attentive, and the location has a hidden, exclusive feel that adds to the charm. We sampled the Gin Basil, Margarita, Whisky Sour, and the signature Overnight cocktail. For me, the Whisky Sour was the standout – one of the best I’ve ever tasted. They also mentioned there’s a DJ on weekends, which I’m excited to check out. This place will definitely be my go-to spot that I’ll visit again and again for a memorable night out!

A very nice and cozy atmosphere. We were there at the beginning of December and it was decorated for Christmas. 🌲✨ You feel comfortable here! At the entrance we were greeted very friendly and shown to the table, the service at the table was also very friendly and attentive. We found the food very tasty. The portions were a perfect size. We found the waiting times between courses pleasant. We recommend making a reservation as it gets very crowded here.

We were there on New Year's Eve and paid €199 for a flying buffet that in fact hardly came by, so we left after midnight to have dinner somewhere else. The quality of the Flying Buffet was okay, at least from the 3 mini portions that I got. Unfortunately, the bar was completely overcrowded, especially after 11 p.m., when there was another large surge of people, which unfortunately didn't really do the ambience any good. Unfortunately, when we asked, there wasn't even a bar stool for us, but there was for other guests. After complaining, they brought us 2 cold stools from outside for a group of 6 people. The bar was friendly and helpful, but there were far too few people for so few waiters. I find it really disgraceful how people here are ripped off on New Year's Eve, it was definitely the last visit there for us.

Disappointing New Year's Eve party I was at the New Year's Eve party with friends and unfortunately I was very disappointed. We had bought tickets two weeks ago for €200, but the event was poorly organized. Despite the high price, there were no seats for us and it was almost impossible to stand properly. The food was extremely limited and you had to literally fight to get something. What was particularly annoying was that some guests were given preferential treatment and were given seats and better care. To make matters worse, the organizer allowed other guests to come to our place without considering the previous planning. Overall the party was a huge disappointment and definitely not worth the money. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this event.

First of all I want to say that I have never given any negative review to restaurants but this time I’m really shocked from the orribile experience at Herzog. I have been charged cleaning fee for being sick! Let me put some lights on the facts: Last Friday was supposed to be my very first night out with friends after 10 months of becoming a mother and I was really excited to book a table at Herzog which was suggested to me by a friend. Unfortunately, by the time we arrive and order food I just started to feel something uncomfortable in my stomach, so I only ordered a soup and bread for myself. I had nausea and felt dizzy, my friend helped me to lay on a couch with my legs up to prevent me to faint, she ordered a Coca-Cola for me and one guy from the bar or waiters was really nice, he broke me salt and water and checked upon us . I drank some coke and took some pinch of Sal hoping it would help me feeling better but once I set again I couldn’t hold myself and I started vomiting very badly on the floor (moquette), also part of the couch got dirty. I was really embarrassed and felt so sorry for that so I tried to clean up the mess myself with paper although the nice guy was keeping telling me to not do it because the restaurant has a person in charge for doing that and it will be cleaned. Anyway I cleaned up most of it but of course it wasn’t possible to clean perfectly vomit from the moquette. After feeling slightly better I went to bathroom to refresh myself, I just washed my mouth and went to toilet, no more vomiting there. I set at the table with my friends again but obviously I could not eat anything, I just tried some bread (btw some slices of normal white baguette instead of named sourdough bread was charged 7.5€) and a spoon of soup which made me feel even worse so finally I asked my friends to take care of the bill and I booked a taxi to go back home. The next day my friends told me that they were charged 50€ for cleaning service without even being informed!

We really enjoyed the visit itself, the lady who served us yesterday was very nice and helpful. But then we ordered cocktails from another waiter with tattoos. Unfortunately the order was recorded incorrectly. But he said “it can no longer be canceled”. The waiter quickly ran to the bar. We asked our waitress how it could be that the order couldn't be canceled. But she said it would work if you do it right away and don't pass the order straight on to the bar. But the waiter didn't give us any time to clarify the situation. Of course we paid for the wrong order. Unfortunately the cocktail situation gave us a weird vibe. As if the waiter (with tattoos) wasn't in the mood, along the lines of, you'll drink (and pay, of course) anyway. But thanks anyway to the nice waitress, she really made an effort
