Down-to-earth, honest, good. I really like the Herrenkeller. I've never had a bad meal there or been treated badly.

I visited Herrenkeller around lunchtime based on a recommendation. Apparently, the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed, as the fries were almost cold and soggy. The lentils were tasty, but nearly overcooked. Unfortunately, this restaurant isn't for me, even though the recommendation sounded great.

Very cozy atmosphere, well-suited for larger groups. Friendly staff. I wasn't particularly impressed with the food (taste) itself; the Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) weren't very good, the salad was okay, and the soup was quite good.

One of the oldest inns in Ulm. Great service, excellent quality food, and the ambiance perfectly suits this venerable establishment. Don't be put off by the prices; they are justified by the quantity and quality. Please come hungry!

The menu offered few gluten-free dishes. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked about gluten-free options. Upon my arrival, the staff had several choices. I opted for a salad, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The service was very attentive.

We meet weekly for our regular get-together at the Herrenkeller, and I also go there regularly for meals on my own. The traditional Swabian cuisine is always excellent! The consistently friendly service and smiles from Andrea, Ewa, and the entire team are particularly noteworthy! I always feel very comfortable there! I'm already looking forward to my next visit. GREAT, freshly made schnitzel and potatoes, tasted like a family recipe - would happily go back!

We ate there on Monday at lunchtime and received a very warm welcome despite having a dog and a wheelchair. The entire team was exceptionally friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, freshly prepared, and clearly homemade. The prices were also very reasonable. We really liked the ambiance and decor, and the restrooms were spotlessly clean. We highly recommend Herrenkeller.

The tablecloth was filthy and was only changed after I asked. The vegan Maultaschen (a type of German filled pasta) were from a package, and the potato salad certainly wasn't homemade either. It tasted awful. If you want to eat cheap food and pay a fortune for it, this is the place for you.

After a long day of shopping in Ulm, we revisited the Herrenkeller – our first visit was two years ago. We were already thrilled with the food back then, so the decision to return was an easy one. This time, we ordered currywurst with fries, lentils with Spätzle, and Saitenwürstle (a type of sausage), all served with a side salad. The portions were exceptionally large and more than enough. Everything tasted delicious and was freshly prepared. We would especially like to commend the extremely friendly and attentive service, which was quick and always courteous despite the restaurant being busy. The ambiance is rustic and cozy, with many lovingly arranged nutcrackers in various sizes and colors, giving the restaurant a unique and charming atmosphere. The value for money is absolutely outstanding – everything is just right. We will gladly return and can wholeheartedly recommend the Herrenkeller in Ulm.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. The Swabian Maultaschen with potato salad were the best we've ever eaten… you can see and taste that they're homemade; you rarely find that these days. The service is very charming and attentive. We'll definitely be back.

A tourist trap with poor service. These were by far the worst Maultaschen we've ever had anywhere, completely dry; we didn't finish them. During a visit to Ulm, we spontaneously decided on this restaurant as we were passing by, but unfortunately, it wasn't a good idea. We weren't even approached when we walked in; we had to first raise our eyebrows to get a table. We were then given the wrong drinks (large instead of small). The food came quickly. We weren't even asked if everything was okay. The Maultaschen really hurt both of us, as Swabians. No one else came to our table, so when we wanted to pay, we went to the front to get our attention again. On top of that, the food was expensive, but the drink prices were reasonable.

We had a family reunion in Ulm from October 3-5, 2025, and 21 people had dinner at the Herrenkeller. It was great that we had the adjoining room to ourselves, which is ideal for a family reunion. The quality of the food was very good, and the service was excellent in terms of friendliness and speed. We would be happy to come back again.

Honest, truly excellent cuisine, no frills, just simply superb cooking. Everything is fresh, made with love, and served to perfection. The service is the best and friendliest you could wish for: attentive, warm, and truly authentic. We felt completely at home and will definitely be back!

We had an absolutely delicious lunch of Maultasche. We will come back! Also loved the menus, it looking like a newspaper is so unique.

We've been there several times. Initially, it was always nice and cozy, with good food. However, when the restaurant is full, they offer a limited menu (which unfortunately disappointed some of us), and the service was completely overwhelmed. It took a very long time to pay, for example, etc. Furthermore, my request to decorate the table a bit for a birthday party was ignored (which would have been less of a problem if we'd at least given a little advance notice). The food was still very tasty. Overall, the restaurant is highly recommended, unless it's completely full.

Oh, that's funny: the management of this establishment wrote to Google asking to delete my comment on the pretext that I was "defaming" 😂. I simply wrote that the welcome had been deplorable because the waitress had decreed in a curt tone, as if she were addressing unwelcome people and not customers, that we had to share a table with another customer while many other tables on the terrace were free... I have never been so badly received in a restaurant and I would like to know why. This comment therefore recounted a real-life experience and the management of this establishment, which apparently does not tolerate criticism, could have responded to me directly to explain their policy of "I prefer to squeeze customers around the same table". Perhaps I would have understood their arguments.

German cuisine in an unbeatable atmosphere

There were two of us and two dishes were slightly above average. Very friendly staff, despite the beer garden being full.

Really delicious food. Schnitzel, roast beef with onions, cheese spaetzle, and Kaiserschmarrn. The schnitzel was good. The rest was really tasty.

We've been to the Herrenkeller several times. We can especially recommend the affordable lunch menu. Even though it's always incredibly busy, the service remains warm and prompt. I have a lot of respect for the speed with which they manage to accommodate every guest, especially in this heat.

There are apparently problems with the staff at the moment. Unfortunately, it's noticeable.

Waited 45 minutes for the food and then got the wrong dish. Extremely bad service!!!

I can recommend it without reservation. Very good service. Great atmosphere inside. And of course, the food too. I only come here now. But I'm a huge fan of lentils and spaetzle. And they're truly EXCELLENT here. I'd be happy to come back.

A typical German restaurant, offering tasty traditional dishes and generous portions. The menu, laid out on a newspaper page, is original and charming. The service is courteous, fast, and professional. Plenty of outdoor seating and several indoor rooms. Excellent Ulmer Gold Ochsen beer served in a traditional Bavarian mug.

Terrible welcome! Plenty of free tables on the terrace, but they wanted to seat us with an unfortunate gentleman sitting alone. We decided to go next door to Gustaff's.

Ok. I visited there 2 times in a row. First day ordering one meal. Abg’smälzte Mauldasch’n mit Kartoffelsalad. Swabian meat filled ravioli and potatosalad. I have to say that the brownsauce was best sauce I have ever eat. Second day I order local tapas plate including käsespätzle, Swabian meat-filled ravioli, Braised ox cheeks, Linsa mit Spätzla, Krautkrapfen. Also asked for extra sauce. Delicious meal. Dessert Apfelküchle mit Zimt Zucker und Sahne. Athmospehere was really nice. Relaxing, welcoming. Service also. I can really give my recommendation to visit.

We visited the Herrenkeller the last two days and were absolutely thrilled! They had a select menu of Swabian classics, and we especially loved the Maultaschen. Despite the busy place, the service was fast and super friendly! Kudos to the two ladies who ran it all! We'd love to come back.

It was our first time there and we definitely won't be back. We arrived at 8:30 p.m., received a friendly welcome, and were allowed to choose a table outside. The waiter cleaned the table, and we were served quickly. We had ordered drinks but told the waiter we needed a moment to choose our food. Drinks were then brought quickly. 20 minutes later (8:50 p.m.), no one had come to take our food order. My boyfriend then asked if we could order now (our drinks were also empty). The waiter replied, "The kitchen closes at 9 p.m., but I'll just ask." He and another waiter then came over to us and said, "The kitchen was actually supposed to be closing now. They've already cleaned. I didn't know you wanted to order food, but okay, what would you like?" Our food was then received with annoyance, and unfortunately the onion roast beef was no longer available. Five minutes later, the waiter came back and told us that the food would take a while because the kitchen had already cleared everything away. A total of 15 minutes later, the food (and new drinks) arrived. The waiter, annoyed, wished us bon appetit and didn't come back to ask if everything was okay. Which was a real shame, because our pork schnitzel wasn't cooked through and (to our taste) simply wasn't very edible. After the meal, we were brazenly asked if we wanted to pay. In summary, we felt very uncomfortable and ignored. We both work in the restaurant industry and are therefore understanding of almost everything. But not unfriendly and irritable service. So, we're only giving it one star, because unfortunately, neither the meat nor the service was good.

A beautiful, traditional shop with plenty of charm. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is good and hearty. A pleasant place for a leisurely meal.

Here you can find small Swabian tapas and a good Aperol Spritzer and a good Lemberger. Prices are a bit more expensive than in Franconia.

This place is 100% authentic, as is its cuisine. I really liked the concept of "Bavarian tapas." It allowed me to discover several local specialties served in small portions at affordable prices (around 5.5 to 6.5 euros per portion). It was very tasty and fun. Plus, the beer brewed on site was delicious. The terrace is really pleasant, on a charming pedestrian street. Excellent address!

I've been here three times... The first time, the last time, and never again! The waiter was loud, rude, cheeky, and very insensitive. I once again noticed that, as a woman traveling alone, I wasn't welcome. The lukewarm asparagus salad tasted bland. I wasn't asked about the main course, dessert, or coffee. What a shame! The dessert and coffee tasted wonderful elsewhere. I won't put up with such posturing and fuss anymore.
