Herrenalber Gockel in Bad Herrenalb

I was looking forward to a delicious, crispy chicken because of the good reviews and personal feedback. Unfortunately, I received a spicy or very spicy version without asking and without having ordered it. It was unbearable for me. After eating the wing, I couldn't taste anything else. The spicy sauce had been removed from the chicken, I'm still wondering how. Therefore, I can't comment on the taste. The fries and mayo were tasty. Luckily, I had eaten those beforehand. What a shame, a real shame.

The Herrenalber Gockel restaurant is simply fantastic! From the moment you walk in, you feel instantly welcome – incredibly friendly staff, fast service, and a cozy atmosphere. The food was absolutely superb: fresh, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. The value for money is 100% spot on, and you can tell that a lot of passion goes into it. I will definitely be back and can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to everyone. A well-deserved 5 stars!

Update Dec 2024: The consistently friendly service, consistently high quality, and consistently stable prices have prompted me to give them a perfect score today. We come all the way from Karlsruhe, specifically to eat the best chicken money can buy. You have to experience it for yourselves. The Gockelburg in the Palatinate can't compete when it comes to selection and side dishes. Update Dec 2022: Rating increased for service. I'll only give it a full 5 stars when there are more flavors/variations (I'm still hoping for curry, sweet and sour, or barbecue chicken skin). Don't be shy, I'd love to try them if you invite me! 😝 It's still a bit too spicy for children, even the mild version, as the chicken skin is lightly peppered. Alternative: The chicken nuggets!! The mixed salad is really delicious, and the fries are very good too. The owner is easy to chat with. She knows her stuff, and the food is ready and served quickly. Give this little place a chance and pop in for a bit; it's worth it. I even drive all the way from Bietigheim just to enjoy this crispy chicken. If you don't try it yourself, you're missing out, believe me... 😋

This was my second time eating here. The first time was so good that I recommended it to my friends. However, this time on a Wednesday, we were the first guests and felt like we had an old chicken on our plates – tough, dry, not completely warm inside, and almost burnt after being fried twice. (That's my feeling, my suspicion.) We won't be coming back despite the nice atmosphere. I expect 100% service for my money. The friendly server promised to pass this on to the kitchen. 🤔

Unfortunately not for me. They probably didn't have any fresh eggs. Too bad.

When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and shown to a very cozy table. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with lots of chickens, fitting its name, Gockel (Rooster). For our meal, we ordered the house recommendation, the half chicken. Mine was unfortunately a bit dry inside, but otherwise very tasty, especially the incredibly crispy skin. The seasoning was excellent for me, very peppery, but too spicy for my daughter, though still edible. The restaurant was more than reasonably priced, and we would definitely come back.

A small, charming restaurant for chicken. I chose the spicy version and will definitely try the extra spicy next time. They offer a wide variety of chicken dishes. We also had the chicken nuggets and were very satisfied overall. The very friendly and attentive service made the experience even better.

Simply delicious, chicken and salad

A very nice little restaurant that specializes almost exclusively in chicken dishes. Very, very tasty half chickens in various spices. Delicious salads and side dishes. Super-efficient and friendly service and a pleasant, chicken-centric atmosphere. The only minor criticism is that the music doesn't suit the restaurant (maybe try some Moorhuhn music 🤣). Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back.

Very good food, friendly service, and a beautiful ambiance by a babbling brook. It couldn't be better, and I keep coming back from Stuttgart for the delicious food. I highly recommend the special tarte flambée. You have to try it if you're in Bad Herrenalb. There's free parking a few minutes' walk outside of town. I'm reviewing here for the second time after our third visit. This is the first place to go in Bad Herrenalb. The food is SUPERB as always, and the price is too. The friendly waitress, DUYGU, is especially attentive and always has a smile for every guest. Best wishes from Zuffenhausen 😉

We went to Herrenalber Gockel for dinner yesterday. We received a friendly welcome and prompt service. The half chicken was very tasty (not dry). My potato wedges were amazing. We didn't have to wait 10 minutes for our food. I would recommend a visit to Gockel.

Despite the large crowd, the service was very friendly and professional. The beer garden is lovely, and the food is absolutely fantastic.

We've eaten there three times now (or takeout). The first time (takeout) was good, the other two times the half chicken was so dry that it completely fell apart when we took it out. For a restaurant that specializes in this, that's pathetic. The explanation given for the poor quality was that the chicken is deep-fried. As a non-chef, I can't understand why that's the case, but I have to accept it. Unfortunately, I absolutely don't recommend it. I would probably be a customer twice a week, as I really like half chickens, but this is simply unbearable. I'd recommend going to Gockelburg in Kandel or Hühnerfred. If anything changes in the kitchen and it improves, I'd be happy to hear from you. I'd be happy to try it three times again and update my review accordingly. I don't want to harm any business, especially one I'd really enjoy visiting. I hope they improve things here!

Ist zum teil nicht schlecht. Manche Speisen sind ganz gut. Hähnchen sind entweder zu fettig , oder zu trocken. Salate sind gar nicht zu Empfehlen , da nicht frisch. Das Ambiente ist aber sehr schön.

The chicken itself was good, but the skin was poorly seasoned. There was definitely a lack of salt and the chicken was swimming in the oil. No dip added and standard bread. Nothing special. The fries tasted like old frying fat... when I asked if you could make the salad (herb) half half with potato salad, they unfortunately only said that you had to buy it separately, even though both were in the same price range. 4.50€ which really wasn't worth it for the small bowl. The woman from service was nice. But overall the experience wasn't worth it. Better bread and a saltier crust would definitely have been worth a 2nd visit.

The chicken is super delicious, the service is satisfying, everything is beyond perfect. First of all, the humanity of my brothers Nurgül and Adnan is wonderful, I recommend it to everyone, be sure to try this perfect taste.

Great restaurant and great food, we often visit there as a family... But yesterday, after we were unfortunately already at home, we discovered that there was a drink and another dish on our bill that we hadn't ordered and didn't got it, so we paid extra for two things...that's annoying, of course, but there was nothing we could do about it...

Six people actually happened to go to the "Gockel" today to have lunch after a hike. We received our various dishes at the same time after only a short wait and everything was very attractively presented and looked delicious. The portions were completely sufficient even for us hungry hikers. My 1/2 chicken with potato wedges and sour cream in the extra spicy version I ordered was super tasty and a top choice for lovers of very spicy cuisine.... One thing is certain: we will be happy to come back!

If you like delicious salad and chicken in different variations, this is the place for you. The salad dressing is to die for, the Crossies are as cross as their name suggests. The chicken wings are deliciously spicy and the wedges are crispy. The potato salad is a revelation, and if you think I'm bought, you're wrong. I just love good food and friendly service. Guys, you have to try this! One of the tastiest chicken we have eaten! You don't get a little mini chicken, but it has really good meat on it. Even our little 2 year old munched on it! The staff is super friendly. When our little one cried at the beginning, a lollipop was immediately brought to her to calm her down, and at NO TIME was she made to feel bad that our mouse was too loud or anything else. We were welcomed and served with great hospitality. So if you want a great meal at a good price, you definitely have to stop by. Kind regards to the entire team :)

I am not a vegetarian and will note that, yes, the chicken inside was tasty. But for me personally and my friends it was specific. I think that it is necessary to specifically indicate what spices are used when baking chicken. I believe that you simply cannot offer grilled chicken to visitors without providing the appropriate information about the additives and spices used. There is simply an oversupply of this kind of product in Germany. It is also worth noting that this establishment closes very early - at 21:00. I don’t know, for me the evening begins just at this time and I’m not ready to go home and go to bed at this time. The service is good.

Food was OK, service was OK, but the adjoining bar has an open door allowing the smell of cigarette smoke into the restaurant. If you can deal with the smell then I recommend the chicken. Food was tasty.

Meine Frau und ich wollten das Lokal ausprobieren und sind mit nicht all zu hohen Erwartungen eingekehrt. Wir wurden sehr angenehm überrascht. Meine Frau ließ ihr halbes Hähnchen scharf würzen, ich hatte ein normal gewürztes, trotzdem pikantes, gewählt. Die Hähnchen hatten ein festeres, saftigeres Fleisch, als ich es von Hähnchenbratereien gewohnt bin. Auf dem Teller war ein dünner Spiegel Bratensaft. Die dazu gereichten Kartoffelecken mit Quarkdipp und Pommes waren prima. Der kleine Beilagensalat war überdurchschnittlich gut. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis war stimmig. Die Küche hat durchgehend geöffnet. Der Service war freundlich und auf Zack. Was will man mehr?

You can get really good crispy chicken here! The service was very attentive and friendly. The price-performance ratio is good. I found the fact that there is a small liquor store with a smoking area in the building very unpleasant on the way from the terrace to the toilet. Above all, the smoke goes out onto the terrace, which stinks quite a bit.

For me it was an overpriced disappointment because I am of the opinion that this is an industrial product and not the usual local specialty for the region. However, the price is not justified for a small bowl. I worked in the area for three months and enjoyed it several times, so I can judge that. It's a shame because otherwise it was very pleasant and we received very friendly and exemplary service. Otherwise I would have liked to give it five stars.
