Haus Schwan in Köln

A while ago, our group of four ate at Haus Schwan. We were seated by the busy road. One of us ordered a pike-perch, which was still partially frozen, and the seasonal vegetable side dish turned out to be frozen. After complaining, we received the same fish and vegetables microwaved. The fish had already been opened. The other dishes were also unimpressive and didn't stand out in terms of taste. Only one of our group left a review. Now, reviews are being reported as "defamation." That was reason enough for me to share my negative experience as well.

Spacious rooms, delicious food, and super friendly staff. The menu could use a few more (vegetarian) dishes, and the prices are higher than in breweries.

I was there a few weeks ago to give the place another chance after a disastrous experience with a still-cold, frozen cordon bleu - since I complained, I haven't been greeted by a single person 😂 Well, I can't comment on the food because the unfriendly waitress didn't even ask if we wanted a menu. Then we went for a Kölsch - you don't want to disturb anyone 💁🏻‍♂️ But you always get the feeling that you're disturbing people there, especially the boss. The street festival on Dürener was the same. Oh yeah, suddenly card payments weren't possible 😂 Who knows why...! I'll go again when the place is run by new people. Which hopefully will happen as soon as possible.

Quaint atmosphere, good food, friendly service

Quaint pub. We didn't eat there, but what we saw looked very good. We quickly got our drinks; we really enjoyed it.

Very friendly service and solid brewery cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere and with fair prices. We were here for a potato pancake birthday dinner and enjoyed the lovely atmosphere and friendly service. Simple and delicious, as hoped.

Oh my, it used to be so nice in the Schwan 😟 when Joshi was still the owner. Today... the food is really borderline. Service... if you don't like your job, just do something else. Unfriendly and disrespectful. It's a shame that such a lovely Cologne corner pub is run like this.

Used to be the best restaurant for me. Now the value for money is completely out of the question. This year, we had soup as a starter, followed by the main course, and always a side salad. Soup is no longer available, side dishes are available, salad has to be paid for separately, and portions have been halved. We used to eat there twice a week. Yesterday was my last visit. It's a shame. The place is usually very busy, but now there's not a single person in there, I think that speaks volumes.

What's wrong with the kitchen? Please fix it. 🙏

Unfortunately, the chef had bad luck today: the frozen vegetables were cold, and the pike-perch was okay. When I pointed this out, the same vegetables were simply reheated. It's outrageous considering the price. At least the staff was very accommodating and tried to help.

Oh dear!!! I've known Haus Schwan since I was a child. It used to offer truly excellent, home-style cooking, but now, unfortunately, it's a complete disaster. They obviously don't cook fresh food here anymore. This was definitely our last visit.

It's a good place to go for a Kölsch. Food is okay but doesn't blow me away.

Food is great service with a smile is always a plus the cost slightly higher than I like but it's worth it, when you leave happy. I will go back.

As a New Lindenthal resident, I was immediately recommended to visit Haus Schwan and can say that I immediately felt very at home and welcomed :) the staff was very accommodating, friendly and funny and from my experience I can highly recommend the food. If you like home cooking, you will get your money's worth here :) The interior furnishings are classic, cozy and when the weather is nice it's worth a place outside :) Will certainly become a regular stop for me :)

The food was super delicious! I had the game ragout with cranberries and my friend had Hokkaido pumpkin with burrata! She also found it very tasty! It was also beautifully presented! We didn't have to wait long! However, the service could be a little friendlier! She seemed a bit reserved! The atmosphere, what can I say, very cozy, rustic! We sat in the front area! We would recommend it!

The restaurant is on the corner of a busy street. There are parking options here, you have to keep your eyes open. The food tasted very good: the Wiener Schnitzel had a good consistency and the portion was okay for the price. The ambience matches the concept of the house. Service very friendly and nice. Toilets clean and accessible. Overall, a solid, nice restaurant. We can recommend it!

We celebrated carnival there and really enjoyed it.

We had game ragout and Jägerschnitzel. Unfortunately very disappointing. The game ragout with cranberries and mashed potatoes arrived like half a soup. The sauce of the ragout was very greasy and blurred with the mashed potatoes, the cranberry sauce was like mush on the venison ragout. Three four lettuce leaves on half the soup couldn't embellish the dish. The taste of the mashed potatoes was okay. Unfortunately served very carelessly. The schnitzel was very fibrous and the fries were too dry. Both dishes were on the table 7-10 minutes after ordering, which is also atypical for these two dishes. The younger waitress asked too soon if we liked it and in the heat of the moment we both reflexively said yes. Afterwards, during the course of the meal, I asked a slightly older waitress if the dish was always served like this? The answer was simply: “Yes”. She then disappeared very quickly. Afterwards, we gave the younger waitress our constructive criticism, and she then said that there was nothing she could do now except let the kitchen know, because we finally answered her (hasty) question with a yes. I then explained to her that we were too quick to ask the question. Anyway, unfortunately it was a disappointing dining experience overall. That's not how you treat your guests, I worked in the catering industry myself. Logically, we didn't eat. There was nothing on the house as an apology, the entire amount was collected. We paid with an EC card and still gave a tip, which wasn't even on the receipt. Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio and positive, constructive treatment of the guests are not at all correct. Too bad!

After a long time, we wanted to give Haus Schwan another chance. Unfortunately, still extremely unfriendly service and really bad food. It's a shame, we will never visit this restaurant again.

The Kölsch was good, the service was very attentive, unfortunately the food was terrible. I had Cevapcici which had a rubbery consistency and went well with the fries. The best part of the meal was the ajvar from the jar.

The swan only lives on the splendor of bygone times. We used to go to Haus Schwan regularly. We haven't been there in recent years due to moving. The opportunity arose again on the occasion of a visit to Cologne. We were very disappointed! The ambience was unchanged. But: The schnitzel, for which the Schwan was once famous, was probably frozen and apparently prepared in the deep fryer. The fries were dry and reminiscent of oven fries. Everything was done completely carelessly. The other dishes were slightly better. There are now much better alternatives on Dürener Straße.

Nice old pub... Good food, great service...

We had an amazing dinner. As a starter we shared a gulash soup. As the seconds schnitzel and Zarte Rinderroulade. Quantities are big so we were super full. Waitress was really nice. If i have to say something just that the seconds took quite long to come. I will definetly come back! So I came back and I had to change my punctuation as this time was not that good. I took the gulasch soup which was good, but then the mussels, they were not fresh like it says, they didn’t even have a taste. Unfortunately were the worst mussels I ever had. Also we wanted a dessert and been waiting 20 minutes for the waitress to make any sign of coming. In the end we made it to call the waitress and she said the kitchen closed 20 minutes ago. Was that hard to come and say “would you like desserts? As the kitchen will close soon”. Also I have to say that they charged us for a bit of ketchup (without saying it previously, who would think they would charge you for ketchup??), I never seen this in any other restaurant hahaha. Bad experience this time. Don’t order the mussels if you really like (fresh) fish!!!

Nice restaurant and friendly service. Quality of the food is not convincing in my opinion.

We were here with friends today. The ambience is appealing and the service took good care of the guests. When it came to eating, our group's opinions varied widely. The cevapcici were rather rubbery and should have been avoided. The matjes were very tasty. The Jägerschnitzel was well done. The French fries were also very tasty and visually very good. The Wienerschnitzel was very clear and was not served with French fries as ordered but with potato salad. A portion of French fries was added later. The pancake was probably very gristly. Despite the shortcomings mentioned, you can be happy that there are still inns like this in the districts. Maybe my careful criticism will encourage reflection or improvement.

Food wasn't good. The schnitzel (that's what the Schwan used to be known for) was from the package, the small potato pancakes were not freshly made but prepared. The service was good and the beer tasted good too. The audience is nice too. But I wouldn't eat more than a half of rooster here again.

Just had a drink when driving past, the first impression was okay, I can't say anything more here.

Super friendly staff great gastro

We were at the Schwan yesterday evening at 11.20 p.m. (opening hours 12 p.m.-12 a.m.). All the tables outside were still occupied. We asked politely for 3 Kölsch and were left standing there in a very unfriendly manner with "there's nothing more"! And that wasn't the first time we had the feeling of being a nuisance when entering the store! What's wrong with you?

The food was very plentiful and very tasty. The service was very friendly. The tables outside were a bit small, but it would probably be difficult to set up larger ones because then the public order office would come ;)

With a new operator, new menu and new cuisine you can make something good even better. Or, as in this case, ruin something good. The quality of the food is no longer even satisfactory, we were very disappointed with what was left of the former brewery kitchen. But what is really unprofessional: having an opinion from guests who obviously didn't like it here deleted from Google with the note “defamation”. Stand by your performance, apologize to disappointed customers and invite them so that they can see for themselves whether things have improved. It's a shame, but you can really save yourself a visit here.

Since my first review, which was expressly described as a personal perception and experience, was displayed on Google, I am writing a new one here: After a long time, we had dinner at Haus Schwan again and were no longer satisfied. We were very, very disappointed with the quality, value for money and service that day.

A very good service and a very nice staff

We only went there briefly for a cold cola as we had been out all day and it was a hot summer day. We were shocked at the price. 9€ for 2 glasses of cola!!!! We will never enter this store again.

Unfortunately it is no longer what it was. I fondly remember the times when Joschi stood behind the counter. Those days are over and with them the cosiness and friendliness. The food has deteriorated and the service is not that warm either. The worst thing is that you can only pay with cash! And that's ridiculous in today's times!

House Swan. In terms of furnishings, it has remained the same as it always was. Rustic and pub-like. But that's exactly what makes the corner restaurant so charming. The food is also honest and well made. Simple Cologne cuisine. We took the sauerbraten and a roast beef plate. We would like to recommend this here. Thanks to the friendly and nice staff and the new owner.

Beef roulade was prepared and was on the table after 5 minutes. Small but not nice...

We have been regular guests at Haus Schwan for over 15 years and have always been very satisfied. Today we went there again and were really disappointed with the portions. When you spend over €30 on asparagus and a veal schnitzel, you can expect it to be bigger than the palm of your hand. The portion of fries for my daughter also did not exceed the size of “a handful”. The asparagus cream soup is served in a lunch menu daily soup bowl, which is actually impossible for the price. However, everything was very tasty.

Haus Schwan actually has a cult status in Cologne and we wanted to hold our regulars' get-together there regularly, but we felt like we were being ripped off. I ate the burger and the portion and quality were okay. The scampi plate for €24 included 5 scampi. So the calculation is really incomprehensible. Overall, some were not satisfied with the size of their portion (grate cake) and were still hungry.

Unfortunately, the good old Swan has become a below-average restaurant. I've been here at least twice a month for over 20 years. But lately I've been having doubts about whether the swan is still mine. The food has recently been of the lowest quality. I hope for short-term improvement.

Save the Swan House! It is in the nature of things that there are ups and downs in business. However, if a beloved institution and a 30-year-old home with great memories are lost, the fun stops. The quality of the kitchen has declined massively – okay. Hire a new chef and repair. What's worse, however, is begging for Kölsch at the counter, which has been standing in front of you for 30 years at an adjusted frequency and without being asked. The sum of the loss in quality has been noticeable in the number of guests for weeks. There are no more there. There used to be a state of emergency on a Thursday. On Fridays the water ran down the windows, and on Saturdays the most beautiful Bläck Fööss playlist was only available in the Schwan. We all hope that our cult fan chant "And again there's no mood in the Swan house" doesn't become the bitter truth.

Serves German food with great quality and very good atmosphere. The prices were a bit salty, but I guess thats it nowadays.

Haus Schwan is a true gem in the heart of Cologne! From the warm welcome to the last bite, my experience here was simply phenomenal. The furnishings radiate tradition and elegance, making a visit a special experience. The food was exceptional. The menu offers a wide range of home-style dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and great attention to detail. The service also deserves the highest praise. The staff was extremely attentive, friendly and professional. They ensured that my visit was an unforgettable experience and were always available to answer questions and provide recommendations. All in all, I can warmly recommend Haus Schwan. Whether for a romantic dinner for two, a cozy evening with friends or a celebration - this restaurant impresses across the board with excellent food, first-class service and a welcoming atmosphere. Not to forget the bowling alley in the basement! I look forward to dining here again soon!

Quaint, really nice Cologne “pub restaurant” - always a pleasure!

I ate very well. However, my wife had microwaved noodles with goulash.

We were politely thrown out by the owner today. Reason: We had a child with us to go bowling! Because you have had “bad experiences” with children. By the way, there were only three of us (mother, father, child) and we were allowed to leave again. So there was neither a children's birthday party nor loud screaming children. I've never experienced anything like this and I'm really shocked. We then went to “Haus Sion Im Schäfer” across the street and had a delicious meal and our sad child was warmly welcomed and allowed to go bowling. Great people who couldn't believe their ears. So thanks for nothing and if there were 0 stars I would give them. Incredibly sad experience that leaves very bad karma. I've never left a Google review in my life, so this is my first and the most heartfelt one for people who exclude children. But ok, her house, her rules. Just want everyone to know! A tip at the end: Next time, when making your reservation by phone, please ask whether you are allowed to come with a child. Then you can save your guest the journey.

Everything's great here. The food - a good mix of typical pub food and local specialties - was tasty and came quickly, the beer selection is typical and good for a restaurant of this type. Prices are moderate overall. Card payment works! Sometimes the service seemed a bit overwhelmed despite the restaurant being half full. It's easy to get there with public transport and you can get off almost right in front of it. Class! In any case, a Cologne original - worth a visit.

Der Ort ist für meinen Geschmack, gut geeignet, das Personal ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Ich hatte mich sehr auf den Sauerbraten gefreut, der Kompott dazu schmeckte mir gegoren, der Koch äußerte, es wäre seine Note und müsse so.

Neue Betreiber, neue Karte, neue Art mit Stammgästen umzugehen. Da ist noch Luft nach oben um den alten Standard wieder zu erreichen.

Sehr schön. Hatte als Vorspeise Matjes Tartar und dann den Sauerbraten. Leider war der Service sehr lahm und das Bier ständig leer. Aber sonst tolles Ambiente Leute gut drauf.

Ich hatte 4Wochen im vorraus für 11Personen reserviert,beim eintreffen fand man unsere Reservierung nicht,(was die Inhaberin,auch nicht sehr interessierte),so das man uns an einen Tisch für 8 Personen quetschen wollte...auf meine Beschwerde hin,durften wir an einen anderen Tisch,mit den Worten das wir in 2Stunden gehen müssten!!!!! Geht gar nicht!!!!Es handelte sich um meine Firmenweihnachtsfeier,zum Glück wollten wir danach eh weiterziehen.....!!!!Das Ambiente und die Stimmung im Lokal war sehr angespannt und unangenehm. Das gleiche passierte auch am Nachbarstisch... Die Kellnerin war bemüht und das Essen war zum Glück ok. Aber es ist das letzte mal das ich dieses Lokal,was einen Kultstatus in Lindenthal hat,besuchen werde! Sehr schade,aber mit Hochmut und Arroganz kann man so eine Tolle Einrichtung nicht führen!

Ich werde noch seltener vorbeischauen. Bin heute zum 4. Mal enttäuscht worden. Metthaben..... No Go, bröseliges Röggelchen ohne Butter mit Zwiebelmettwurst. Ich kann wohl zwischen frischem Mett und Zwiebelmettwurst unterscheiden. Frechheit......schon wieder !!!!

Einst eine "Institution" nun unter scheinbar neuer Leitung leider eine Katastrophe. 12:30 Uhr nur 3 Gäste im Restaurant und Gänsebrust zu 36 € bestellt: Fleisch so hart, dass ein Steakmesser nötig war / Maronen kalt / Soße maximal lauwarm und auf dem ungewärmten Teller sofort fast kalt / Rotkohl auch nicht richtig warm. Das Schlimmste: Die Soße war so versalzen, dass sie ungenießbar war, was nicht als "Geschmackssache" verbucht werden kann, denn ich esse gerne reichlich gesalzen und salze in der Regel nach. Der Bedienung war´s sichtlich peinlich, konnte sich aber werder zu einer Entschuldigung noch zu einem Entgegenkommen durchringen. Vermutung: Da hat wenig begnadetes Küchenpersonal versucht, aus Convenience-Food ein Hochpreis-Gänse-Gericht zu fertigen. Vielleicht handelte es sich bei der Soße um ein Konzentrat, das vergessen wurde zu verdünnnen? So schmeckte es jedenfalls.

Das von einem Aushilfskoch zubereitete "Essen" (Schnitzel Cordon Bleu mit Pommes und Salat sowie Nürnberger Rösti mit Rosenkohl, Bratkartoffeln, Spiegelei) war einfach miserabel...Die Panade des Schnitzels hatte offenbar das Tageslicht schon an verschiedenen Tagen gesehen... die Pommes waren teils angekokelt, der Salat belanglos; der Rosenkohl war matschig, die Bratkartoffel wenig schmackhaft... Die Wirtin sah das bei meiner REKLAMATION offenbar auch so und verzichtete auf die Bezahlung der Speisen... Ach du lieber mein SCHWAN... Joschi komm wieder heim...

Essen ist gut, Salat frisch und lecker und die Bedienung ist freundlich, aufmerksam und schnell. Manchmal ist es allerdings sehr laut. Wir gehen trotzdem gerne hin.

DAS Haus Schwan wie es war gibt es nach einem Pächterwechsel nicht mehr. Der Service ist grottenschlecht. Die Wirtin läuft mit einem Gesicht herum, dass eine Mischung aus Hochmut und Widerwillen darstellt. Wirklich gruselig. Also, Gastro kann nicht jeder!! Und das wird hier deutlich. Man fühlt sich nicht als Gast, der freundlich von guten Gastgebern empfangen wird, sondern eher als lästiges Übel. Das Schnitzel ist ok. Der Salat einfallslos mit geschmacklosem Dressing. Wählt man den großen Salat gibt es noch eine Schippe Nüsse obenauf, die da gar nichts zu suchen haben. Wir sind wirklich maßlos enttäuscht und meine Prognose lautet: in der Form hält sich das Lokal kein Jahr! Die Lindenthaler sind speziell. So wie dieses Lokal geführt wird, gehört es eher zu den Touribuzzen in der Altstadt. Für den Service gebe ich minus 5 Sterne. Adieu- Du ehemals schöner Schwan, aus dem nun ein hässliches Entlein geworden ist!

Lecker Kölsch, Lecker Essen (Muscheln) Nettes Personal

Nettes urtypisches Gasthaus in Köln mit ebenso typischen lokalen Speisen. Nicht ganz billig aber mit sehr guter Qualität. Das Ambiente ist typisch und noch sehr traditionel gehalten. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Einen Punkt Abzug gibt es für die Dauer und für die Tatsache, dass die Bestellung zuerst nicht vollständig war. Ansonsten sehr zu empfehlen.

Keine explizit vegane Auswahl. Was eventuell vegetarisch oder vegan ist, wird nicht sichtbar ausgewiesen.

Einfach unverschämte Servicekräfte, vorne in der Kneipe ist ok, nur nicht nach hinten ins Restaurant gehen.

Sehr gutes und frisches Essen, von Muscheln über Pfifferlinge, bis hin zu deftiger Hausmannskost.

Authentisches kölsches Lokal. Gute Essen, netter Service und natürlich Kölsch!

Urkölsch, mitten im Veedel. Sowohl Himmel un Ääd als auch der Speckpfannekuchen traditionell zubereitet und sehr lecker, fast wie früher bei Oma. Service zügig, freundlich und zuvorkommend. Klare Empfehlung!
