Very bad service. I waited a long time for them to come and we ordered, and then we waited until they brought it. The tables were dirty. Really bad service, the first time and the last time.

Suddenly there is car traffic on the footpath and cycle path right along the shore.

€5.40 for a bottle of Stauder Pils, cheers then 🍻. Apparently, the draft beer is sold out. If you believe that 😅...you won't see me again. Oh, and this place is no longer in German hands.

A delicious and large tuna salad (brought to our table promptly) plus a cold 0.33L can of Coke (from the bar) for €18.20. Broken glasses on the grass, many tables with used dishes, the men's restroom filthy as hell. The women's restroom wasn't as dirty.

We stumbled upon this place by chance on an evening stroll. Great lake view, wonderful evening atmosphere, and friendly, welcoming people—a truly lovely place to end the day in a relaxed atmosphere! We'll definitely be back 😍

We spent a beautiful and enjoyable day in the restaurant. The atmosphere was excellent, as was the service. This is how exclusion/isolation works. Shisha, exclusively Arabic music, No alcohol, communication is difficult to impossible, absolutely overpriced, and the ambiance has nothing to do with the old house by the lake.

Great view, with a great outdoor area. Our order was lost. We had to reorder. It took forever for the food to arrive. Unfortunately, the food was very dry, unappetizing, and simply not tasty. The fries were dry and hard. Crispy, just breaded, with barely any chicken in them, and incredibly dry. The prices are reasonable for the location, but very expensive for the poor quality of the food.

This place used to be a beer garden and has now become an Arabic café and restaurant. It's a source of pride for us Arabs to spread our culture and make the delicious Arabic flavors accessible to everyone. The place is beautiful and very suitable for relaxation, especially when the weather is pleasant. The service is good and the staff are friendly. There are a few points that still need to be worked on and improved—I look forward to doing so in the near future. I will be back, as this place deserves more chances. I wish them much success!

Guests primarily come from the inner-city milieu and drive along the bicycle and pedestrian path in tinted limousines instead of taking the street. Service underground and the finest system catering. Anyone who still knows the old operator and charm will no longer feel comfortable here. Then it's better to go to the cafe at the wheelhouse, or to the old ice cream parlor next door. The view can't make up for it.

Never again. The food is inedible and overpriced, and there's no beer or wine. Cleanliness is a foreign word, not to mention the restrooms. It feels like a shisha bar in a no-go area with a suitable clientele. They only seem to care about a certain clientele here, and these people think they own the world. The public order office and the police should take action here; it would certainly be worthwhile. What was once an idyllic place has become an unpleasant place. Before the change of tenant, it was a chilled-out beer garden. Now: no alcohol served, no shandy, or anything like that, and souped-up, flashy cars parked in front of the building on the Seeweg, which is only for pedestrians and bicycles (see WAZ report). It used to be great, but recently it seemed more like a shisha bar than a restaurant or beer garden. The waiter spoke little to no German, and the prices were way overpriced. It's a shame, because the view is really beautiful.

A beautiful location, but unfortunately with serious flaws: The service was disappointing. The ambiance was significantly spoiled by illegally parked cars, inconsiderate guests, and staff who threw cigarette butts into the lake. Some even used shisha pipes right at the table – which significantly lowers the standard. Overall, unfortunately, not recommended.

Despite the beautiful location, unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. The ambiance seems rather strange and doesn't fit the idyllic surroundings. Service is practically nonexistent, and the food is mediocre at best. Instead of a stylish lakeside location, the 'Haus am See' now resembles a shisha bar. The parking situation is particularly disturbing: Numerous vehicles regularly park illegally directly across the river on the Ruhr – sometimes on the sidewalk and bike path. Responsible action on the part of the operators would be desirable. It remains to be hoped that the public order office will take stronger action in the future.

Apparently, I arrived on Sunday afternoon after a big celebration, taking a break from a bike ride. The cleanup wasn't finished yet, but the house was open to guests. I couldn't use the bathroom; everything was dirty, and vomit was still in the sink. Perhaps it would have been better not to open the door, so I could clean everything in peace.

First of all, thank you for the warm hospitality. It's a new owner and a new opening. Besides the new Arabic cuisine, which was truly delicious and, in my opinion as a chef, very well-seasoned, I was particularly impressed by the freshly squeezed juices, which were truly delicious. Apart from that, it's a fantastic location for the summer; it feels like a vacation and you feel at home. I can only recommend it.

The photos on the website and here on Google are probably from the previous owner/tenant. Instead of delicious cakes and beer, an unkempt restaurant, lawn not mowed, old pillows on pallets and then the Arabic sounds, followed by the disgustingly sweet smell of women smoking shisha at three tables around. Self-service at the counter, cold cappuccino! No alcoholic drinks. We really wondered where we had ended up. Sorry, doesn't fit at all! Half-timbered houses by the lake and Arabic shisha? Packs of tissues with Arabic text “made in Syria” on every table? Do we have to import tissues from Syria? I'm open to a lot of international things but please just rename the shop and do your own advertising and don't let the customer think it's a beer garden or an upscale restaurant. We came specifically from another city and were looking forward to a restaurant after walking based on what was advertised on the internet.

Both the food and drinks were of the highest quality and tasted excellent. Everything was just perfect! I can warmly recommend Haus am See in Essen to everyone, a real insider tip with a unique atmosphere.

We don't like it, it didn't meet our expectations

An Arabic beer garden without beer! It's a shame, as you could have a nice cold drink and enjoy the sun before the change of ownership. Now you think of Marrakech. It is dirty and the many Arab guests arrive in SUVs on the waterfront promenade, which is forbidden. The store is absolutely terrible and can no longer be recommended.

It was just disastrous we had a very bad experience in this restaurant. After waiting for over an hour, our food still hasn't come. Despite repeated requests from the staff. The service overall was very disorganized and inattentive.

No wine, no beer, what am I supposed to do here. Last year it was a nice place to stop off, but now the beautiful view doesn't help either. After we found out that there were no alcoholic drinks, we left immediately.

Since the owner has changed, you no longer need to go there, especially if you are not a southerner. As a German you are hardly noticed and they don't even speak German. You could really close the place down. It's just a shame what happened.

Purely subjectively and given my expectations from previous times, our visit was very disappointing. At first we sat waiting in the outside area for a long time and none of the employees who passed us several times informed us that we now had to get drinks ourselves from the outside bar. While we were eating there, the power lines were torn down, the fries with mayonnaise and ketchup we ordered only came with the rest of the tube of mayonnaise without ketchup and cutlery. Bis zum ersten Getränk hat man ca. 25-30 Minuten Zeit - also Genug Zeit die großen SUVs der Stammgäste (welche generell zuerst bedient werden) zu bewundern. Die Fahrzeuge versperren ein wenig den Blick auf den See, aber wenn man sich hinstellt geht´s - die Speisen sind landestypisch - wir haben uns zwar gefragt welches Land, aber an der nicht funktionierenden Fallafellbude steht ein gelangweilter servicemitarbeiter mit dem Handy der gerne weiterhilft. Vom Ambienmte sehr schön mit flatternden Billig-Partyzelten, die das typische "internationale" flair geschmackvoll unterstreichen. Fazit: die einfache reduzierte Version des Extrablatts am See - unbedingt ausprobieren ! Wir kommen allerdings nie wieder ...

Das Haus am See war immer eine tolle Anlaufstelle, ob mit dem Rad, Inlinern, bei einem schönen Spaziergang oder einer Wanderung. Jetzt nach dem letzten Besitzerwechsel leider eine Katastrophe. Sommer Sonne Sonnenschein ohne Aperol oder Bierchen. Alkoholische Getränke Fehlanzeige! Wilde Karte, wo es beim Essen keine klare Linie gibt. Stattdessen Shisha und unfähiger Service. Unangenehme Atmosphäre. Gäste glauben mit dem Auto vorfahren zu können. … Dabei ist die Promenade am See weitestgehend autofrei! So sollte es auch bleiben!

Wonderful restaurant on Lake Baldeney. The new operators are putting in a lot of effort, which has obviously paid off. The menu features Syrian dishes (recommended for those who want to eat something different), along with classics like currywurst. Also recommended! When the weather is good, you should really enjoy the large outdoor area with a view of Lake Baldeney.
