HATARI in Hamburg

Hatari was a safe bet for a long time – especially with children. The schnitzel was always good, the service was always friendly, and the prices were therefore perfectly reasonable. At some point (after the pandemic), the service started to get worse and worse. The waiters were mostly unfriendly and more concerned with chatting to each other than serving the customers – and the food also got worse at some point (and not just in relation to the inflation-driven price increases). The worst is the Hatari in Schanze, which you simply can't visit anymore, but even this one has unfortunately declined considerably. The staff are unfriendly and irritated, and the schnitzel is much smaller than before and of poor quality. At Hatari in Ottensen, we recently waited 1.5 hours (on a weekday at 6 p.m.) for two schnitzels, even though the place was only half full. I have no idea if the concept eventually became self-defeating due to its size or if it's just generally harder to find good people to serve, but for the same price, there are now a ton of better places in Hamburg with the same dishes. It's a shame, because I've always liked Hatari.

Very tasty schnitzel, fries, and spaetzle are also good, but the burger is nothing special—quite the opposite. The cooking level isn't individual, it's completely dry, and there's nothing juicy about it. Add to that the overcooked onions and overly thickly sliced ​​pickles. All in all, though, very fast service and friendly service. Just don't get the burger!!

Rustic German cuisine - Hatari is always a good place to go if you enjoy hearty and delicious traditional dishes.

Extremely unfriendly service! First, you're ignored while you wait outside for a table, then you're given a table without any comment. When we asked to wipe the table because it still had food left on it from the previous customer, we were first ignored and then dismissed with an annoyed look. Anyone who handles customers that poorly in stressful situations doesn't belong in a service job. We moved on.

We sometimes come here with our family. Everyone is always friendly and the food is always delicious.

Very nice and attentive. Very tasty sauce. The food, however, is unfortunately not very satisfying. Last time I visited, the fries were hard and dry. I told the waiter, who then said that I would have definitely gotten a free drink if I had said something. And he would personally make sure the fries were good today... The food arrived, and the fries were dry and hard. Like in a TV sketch. When I tapped two fries with a glass and nothing happened, he quickly brought new fries. And in the end, there was no free drink, as had been de facto advertised.

The portions are large and the prices are fair. We've been coming here occasionally for years. The quality of the (simple) food is very impressive. We come mainly for the Swabian classics; the Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, and Tarte Flammkuchen are always very good. Unfortunately, the service is very inconsistent and has been rather careless lately. This sometimes spoils the great experience.

We like coming here because Hatari is part of the neighborhood, and the ambiance and food are generally good. Unfortunately, the young people who work there seem to lack the conscience to recognize that this is still a restaurant, where a certain level of management and appropriate interaction with guests, as well as suggestions about the not-so-cheap food, are expected. Unfortunately, the fries (something very simple) on one of the dishes we ordered were much too dark and hard. It's strange anyway why the food is served like this. When we mentioned this a few minutes after the food arrived, we were agreed to and told it would be forwarded to the kitchen, who casually smoked outside for a long time and showed no reaction to our message. There was no update as to whether new ones would be made, whether we would receive a discount, or whether there was a general response, even though the server walked past us several times and continued to clear or serve, which is a shame because the mountain of dark, rock-hard fries made up 60% of the meal and we owed them a response. Only after we asked again was it stated that it wasn't the plan to make new fries. Even if we didn't express this wish, it's strange that this wasn't considered and shows that absolutely nothing was planned after our request. Simply approaching us wasn't the plan. They said there wasn't much they could do about suggestions afterward. We had pointed this out at the beginning when the food arrived, but it just took a while because they didn't get back to us. Strange. It seems as if someone there isn't someone who knows the principles and standards of a restaurant.

The food is good, but we've waited over an hour for our food several times now - on a Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., I find that unacceptable.

We all had the schnitzel. It was delicious. Lots of food for the money! A great meal. We spend $80€ for 3 including 2 beers and a aperol spritzer. They took us as a walk-in but make reservations if you can. They take Credit cards.

We had burgers (large) as well as schnitzel (children) and Maultaschen salad - all generous portions, which were very well received. Everything tasted very tasty. I'm always very happy when I find a gin fizz on the drinks menu instead of a gin and tonic - it was also very tasty. We would definitely come again. The service would benefit from a smile or two.

Went there yesterday just before nine and sat outside and waited. The first lady who noticed us after 10 minutes greeted us with the words: Well, are you still happy here? We sat at an empty table...we asked for the menu and it disappeared and never came back. After 5 minutes I went in, met her and asked for the card. She is surprised and overwhelmed. I took the card out with me, but then we somehow lost interest and left. Too bad.

Everything's great, there's just nothing more to say.

A popular German restaurant in Hamburg. We have a lot of German-style menu items. There are many typical German dishes such as Käsespätzle, Bratwurst, and roast beef. There are also plenty of potatoes and spaetzle. If you are Japanese, you can already get full 👆 It's a very popular restaurant, so it might be a good idea to make a reservation. !

Unfortunately, it wasn't a presentable evening today. Too few staff, which meant very long waiting times and it was also very cold and drafty in our place and therefore really uncomfortable (January). The schnitzel was very tasty, as was the beer.

We had no reservation, but the waitress got us some place at the bar. The restaurant is cozy, has good vegetarian options. I never had any issues with the service.

A great restaurant, home cooking, good wines and super friendly staff. We always like to eat schnitzel and fries with sauce here. Our grandchild is very happy when we were here. In my opinion the most beautiful of the four Hatari restaurants here in Hamburg - large and open with a great window front. The food was delicious as always, especially the cheese spaetzle!

The food was a lot and you need a starving belly to finish it. I finished it though😎 The wine is amazing there. The waiters spoke English very well and very friendly. The last free shot was the best shot I had in years. A must try. They have many vegetarian options.

Five of us went out for dinner yesterday, knew hatari from before and always thought it was okay until then. Yesterday the kitchen was extremely bad, the cordon bleu was fried for too long, very poorly stuffed, the potatoes in the salad were extremely hard, and the quantity was too little for the price. In addition, the service was terribly bad. The staff smooched around, there was never a customer-oriented service concept, the staff sat at the table themselves, drank and smoked and just behaved completely wrong, seemed extremely over-excited. The management should think about it, we will never enter this store again and will never recommend it, there are much better stores and, above all, at a more reasonable price.

Super delicious food, vegetarian, with whatever meat your heart desires. Served very tasty and absolutely filling. But the most impressive thing was the service: Toni and her partner, quick, attentive, friendly and relaxed in a very friendly way. It was clear to both of them that they do their work with joy and commitment. WHERE can you find such staff today??? I was there for the first time, but definitely not the last.

The four of us just waited over an hour for the food. After 3/4 hour we asked... nothing happened... after 1 hour we asked again in a polite but unfortunately slightly ironic way, then another new waitress who hadn't been at our table before gave us the food without greeting, apology or anything bon appetit or something similar was "slammed" on the table, when asked due to the lack of politeness there was no apology or anything similar, only the stroppy answer "I interrupted my break specifically to bring you your food, my colleague didn't want to come to the table, because you were so rude" ... "?????......Also a note "we had a change of staff in the kitchen" .... OK. but why does the guest have to wait over an hour because of that? wait and then be treated like a naughty child....? Difficult when the needs of the staff seem more important than the wishes of the guest. The new managing director didn't really cut a good figure either.... in short, we had been to different Hataris maybe 20 times, recommended others, etc... but due to the immature staff... well that was it. Choose your people better in the future.

The atmosphere is quite nice. We had a relaxed atmosphere. The food (schnitzel and tarte flambée) were okay. Unfortunately the service wasn't that good. The food came before the drinks and cutlery. Even though it was quite empty, you had to wait a long time for service.

Unfortunately not quite as good compared to the other branches. The taste of the schnitzel in particular fluctuates between 1-3 stars (a solid 5 stars at the other branches) - completely different gravy and rather salty.

Growing up in southern Germany, it is always a highlight for me to taste a little piece of home. Everything is delicious, my favorite is the Kässpätzle. I've been happy to come back for years.

Clocky decor, we were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation. The Cordon Bleu is awesome. The menu is great, I will definitely visit the restaurant again. Highly recommended.

Quaint shop with Swabian food but also burgers. So far it was delicious, I found the service okay and the food too. But we had burgers and that certainly wasn't representative of the menu. Overall it was nice and tasty. We'll probably come back...

Everyone has a few restaurant dishes that were so delicious that you never forget them in your life and in my case the Seitan Geschnetzeltes with Spätzle has been one of them since yesterday.

Good mix of hearty cuisine, burgers and vegetarian dishes. Good selection of draft beers. Service has always been top, friendly and fast, even when it was really busy. For me it is always a safe choice in Eimsbüttel.

We went to Eppendorfer Str. for dinner based on a recommendation. The food was very tasty, delicious, generous. Great fresh side dishes, well seasoned. The children's menu was also great... BUT: The 2 guys/waitress were absolutely not on their toes. What we don't think is possible is eating food and drinks together. So during our almost 2 hour stay we only got 1 drink and sat with empty glasses for over 1 hour... It's your own fault... because as we all know, you make the most money from the drinks... There is also a golden rule in gastronomy: “Never run back empty.” But the two of them did that all the time. No empty plates were cleared away...nothing. The tables could all have been occupied twice...as the kitchen was on point and fast. But the boys preferred to send the guests away at the entrance because they thought everything was reserved at the moment... When we asked for the bill, we got the answer..."yes later" (okay...what was that about friendliness again?)...15 minutes later the question came, cash or with card... ? Huh??? In both cases we continued to sit in front of our empty plates and glasses....and again he didn't take anything with him. Even after paying, our table was still full. So in my opinion the two of them are totally poorly organized... But we emphasize that the kitchen was great... but if you want to sit comfortably after eating, you should look for another restaurant. This scene was reflected on all the other tables around us. Everyone would certainly have the same thing to say...but I come from the catering industry and can only shake my head...wake up guys!!!!!!!

Wir sind auf Empfehlung in die Eppendorfer Str. zum Abendessen. Das Essen war sehr super schmackhaft, lecker, großzügig. Tolle frische Beilagen, gut gewürzt. Auch die Kinderkarte war super.... ABER: Die 2 Jungs/Bedienung waren absolut nicht auf Zack. Was in unseren Augen schon gar nicht geht, ist das Essen und Getränke zusammen aufgenommen werden. Wir haben also während unseres knapp 2 Std. Aufenthalts nur 1 Getränke bekommen und über 1 Std.vor leeren Gläsern gesessen.... Selbst Schuld...denn an den Getränken verdient man ja bekanntlich am Beste .... Auch gibt es es in der Gastro eine goldene Regel: "Niemals leer zurück laufen" Das taten die 2 aber ständig. Es wurden keine leeren Teller abgeräumt....nix. Die Tische hätten alle doppelt besetzt werden können....da die Küche auf zack war und schnell. Aber die Jungs haben am Eingang lieber die Gäste weg geschickt, da sie meinten, derzeit wäre alles reserviert..... Als wir nach der Rechnung fragten, bekamen wir die Antwort..."ja später"(Okay....wie war das nochmal mit Freundlichkeit?)....15 min später kam die Frage, Bar oder mit Karte...? Hä??? In beiden Fällen saßen wir weiterhin vor unseren leeren Tellern und Gläsern....und er nahm erneut nix mit. Auch nach der Bezahlung stand unser Tisch weiterhin voll da. Also in meinen Augen sind die 2 total schlecht organisiert.... Aber wir betonen, die Küche war der Knaller....wer allerdings nett sitzen möchte, auch noch nach dem Essen, sucht lieber ein anderes Restaurant. Diese Szene ließ sich im übrigen auf alle anderen Tische um uns herum spiegeln. Alle hätten sicherlich identisches zu berichten...aber ich komme aus der Gastro und kann nur mit dem Kopf schütteln....Jungs wach werden!!!!!!!

We come here often as the food is good - but the BEHAVIOR of the STAFF this time was horrendous- unfriendly and just plain rude both the man and the woman. Have no idea show they are allowed to be working….

Two out of three dishes were good and tasty. Unfortunately the lettuce had too many wilted leaves. The service person who served us first was very friendly, but unfortunately the gentleman who took over wasn't. The atmosphere is quite cozy, but a bit too loud and sometimes too crowded. The music ranges from relaxed to aggressive.

Ein sehr runder Abend, dank tollem Service-Menschen und sehr zuvorkommender Unterstützung bei Wünschen zum Essen. Das Restaurant ist sehr groß, selbst jedoch wenn es voll ist, verlaufen sich die Gespräche gut und die Lautstärke wird nicht zu störend im Raum.

Immer eine sichere Bank! Cordon Bleu immer spitze und der Service ist immer sehr nett und zuvorkommend.

Ohne Reservierung zu 4. einen Tisch bekommen, im Inneren alles voll und zusätzlich sehr laut - wir haben eine Bierbank auf der Terrasse bekommen. Service war überall nur nicht bei uns. Wir bekamen dann Getränke und irgendwann auch das Essen, wir hatten förmlich drum betteln müssen, bedient zu werden. Auch zum Abräumen und Bezahlen wollte uns dann keiner mehr sehen. Das Essen war wirklich lecker und gut bürgerlich, die Flammkuchen waren sehr köstlich aber reichten nicht, um den Hunger zu stillen. Zum Bezahlen muss man dann ins Lokal, Kartenzahlung möglich.

Nous sommes venus sans réservation et à tout hasard. Belle surprise que ce Petit restaurant avec Flammeküche, hamburger et toute autre spécialité. Serveurs donnant des conseils c'est appréciable. Prix correct. Accès PMR ok. Terrasse. Le seul hic est l'acoustique, c'est un peu bruyant à l'intérieur sqquand c'est bondé. Allez y!!

Das Essen ist wirklich immer sehr lecker. Allerdings gibt es meiner Meinung nach im Service Abzug. Die Mitarbeiter sind zwar sehr nett, aber vermutlich teils fachfremd und erbringen dadurch insbesondere bei hoher Auslastung einfach keine gute Service Leistung. Ich komme trotzdem immer gerne und hoffe auf Besserung!

Ich bin seit Jahren gerne Gast im Hatari und seit es den im Eppendorfer Weg gibt meistens dort. Ich bin jedes Mal froh, wenn sich die Gelegenheit ergibt dort essen zu gehen. Sehr gerne esse ich dort die vegetarischen Maultaschen. Zuletzt habe ich mal die mit Pesto probiert, die ebenfalls sehr überzeugt haben. Gelegentlich esse ich auch ein Fleischgericht und war noch niemals enttäuscht. Super Laden, immer zu empfehlen, sollte jeder mal abchecken.

Top Laden. Seitdem wir hier in der Nähe wohnen sind wir regelmäßig da. Kleiner Tip am Rande: Das Konzept ist, dass man Burgersaußen selbst wählt aus der Auswahl am Tisch. Etwas ungewöhnlich aber wenn mans weiß sind die Burger auch nicht trocken. Wir musstens auch erst lernen 😉
