An absolute must! One of the best dining rooms in Cologne.

I went to an optician in Cologne that afternoon to look at a pair of frames. When I left, it was almost evening, just in time for dinner. Behind the store was this restaurant. I checked Google reviews and saw good ones, so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located in a side alley on a shopping street, surrounded by clothing stores, shoe shops, and bookstores. It's conveniently located and not too noisy. Dinner wasn't even open when I arrived. Since I didn't have a reservation, an older clerk told me it was usually busier in the evenings and asked if six o'clock would be a good time. I said yes, and he nodded in confirmation. With a few minutes left before six, I browsed the nearby bookstores and shoe shops. It had rained that morning, then briefly cleared up in the afternoon, then turned cloudy again in the evening, leaving the air a bit damp and chilly. When I returned to the restaurant at six o'clock, it wasn't crowded. After I sat down, the clerk brought the menu to the table and introduced the dishes one by one. Customers gradually arrived, and the atmosphere gradually warmed up. The pace of the restaurant was steady. I could see the wait staff guiding customers to their seats, folding napkins, and tidying the table in a friendly, orderly manner. I ordered a pumpkin and bell pepper soup and a zander fillet. Before the meal, he brought a basket of bread. I tasted it and liked it, so I asked, "Is it German or Italian?" He said it was Italian. The bread had a slightly hard crust on the outside but a soft, dense interior, similar to the slightly springy texture of golden cakes in China. It was more delicate and easier to eat than the more common German bread. When I ordered a drink, the waiter first asked if I wanted white wine or beer. Since I don't drink alcohol, I asked if he had tea. He said they had mint tea and black tea. Since it was a cloudy, stuffy, and a bit chilly, I chose mint tea and asked for a little ginger. When the tea arrived, it was filled with a few slices of fresh ginger. The refreshing mint and warm ginger blended perfectly, making it a very pleasant drink. The pumpkin soup was rich and flavorful, with a hint of milk. The soup was filled with tiny particles, which I suspect might be crushed pumpkin seeds, or perhaps a mixture of pepper or other spices. The texture reminded me of the roasted pumpkin seeds I usually leave behind when eating pumpkin. The slight graininess added depth to the soup and a natural aroma. The zander appeared pan-fried, its skin sprinkled with salt, giving it a slightly charred appearance. The salt seemed to have partially melted under the heat, fusing with the skin. I wasn't sure how it was prepared, but I noticed the skin had a slightly crispy texture. I gently scraped the skin with a knife and tasted it; it was salty, while the fish itself remained light. The dish was seasoned with restraint, and the fish was tender and delicate, with a moderate fat content and a slightly milky aroma. It was lighter than salmon and richer than freshwater sea bass. The fish was served with a light white sauce that looked like it had a cream or butter base, with some finely chopped onion or garlic. The sauce had a perfect consistency, thicker than water but lighter than a heavy cream sauce. I didn't dip it much, preferring to eat the fish with the sauerkraut underneath. The tartness of the sauerkraut balanced the fish's richness, while the unique umami flavor of the marinade blended naturally with the fish. This combination reminded me of Huaiyang cuisine—from where I come from, our understanding of food emphasizes the balance between ingredients rather than over-seasoning a single ingredient. The combination of sauerkraut and pike perch embodies this philosophy, creating a layered effect through the complementary effects of the ingredients, which gave me a sense of cultural connection. After our meal, a young waiter came to collect our plates, and we chatted for a while. I asked him if this sauerkraut-and-fish-fillet combination was a specialty of their restaurant or a tradition of a particular cuisine. He smiled and said it was hard to say; their kitchen specializes in Italian, French, and German cuisine, a blend of all three. He wasn't sure which country this dish originated from, but he told me that this sauerkraut and fish combination is quite common in many fish-focused restaurants, and if I liked it, I could try their version. This pike perch is at its most plump and tender from August to October, making it perfectly in season. After the meal, I ordered an espresso. When I paid the bill, the waiter handed me a small card, explaining that since the restaurant tends to fill up, reservations could be made in the future. Tipping is customary in Germany, as in most European countries, and usually rounds up to the nearest dollar. The bill came to about 55 euros, and I paid 60 euros. The restaurant's restrooms were well-maintained. The sinks had a sensor-operated water dispenser, and the water was just the right temperature, close to body temperature, making it comfortable to use. The hand soap was also sensor-operated, and there were plenty of paper towels. The environment was clean and odor-free. The overall experience was positive, and the attention to detail was evident. The meal was enjoyable, the food was exquisite, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the service was natural. This is a restaurant I'll definitely remember and return to.

Truly a Michelin-star restaurant. The dishes we were served were top-notch. For starters, we had risotto with various seafood and a tomato soup. For our main course, we shared a veal course for two. What we were served is beyond the quality of many Michelin-starred restaurants. The outdated look and the all-male "friends team" are the only things holding them back! The food, drinks, explanation, and selection were worth more than 10 points! Highly recommended!

Fine dining restaurant just steps from the center of Cologne. About 1 km from the cathedral, a nice place, although a little too chaotic. Daily menu written on a blackboard (only in German). Fortunately, a super kind and helpful Italian waiter works there. He explained all the dishes to us, making us feel at home. The raspberry risotto with quail was truly excellent, as were the entrecote and the fillet. The crème brûlée was also very good. The price was reasonable for this place.

Unfortunately, my experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. The quality of the food didn't meet my expectations: small portions, hardly any side dishes, and tasteless. Furthermore, the prices were quite high in comparison. I ordered a "fish plate," which was more like half a fish, with some undercooked potatoes. For me personally, it wasn't a positive experience, and I wouldn't recommend it.

A great and apt recommendation from Google: great menu selection. Beautifully prepared and presented with love. And the portion sizes are quite filling and sufficient. Great, creative side dishes. The service is very friendly and open to requests. We had a great evening here.

I happened to pass this restaurant this afternoon. At first glance, it looks like a typical business district restaurant, but it's worth stopping in even without a tie and suit. I was truly impressed by the food. I eat out often in Cologne and come from a family in the restaurant business, so I pay particular attention to quality. The dishes change depending on what's freshly available, which speaks volumes. The service was very friendly. Even though I wasn't dressed like the typical target audience, I received a warm welcome and attentive service. Pictured here is redfish with peach and vegetables. A huge compliment to the kitchen; it was excellent. This restaurant absolutely deserves its good reviews. I'll definitely be back, next time with family and with a reservation.

The Hase restaurant impresses with a very pleasant ambiance and extremely friendly staff. A visit is particularly pleasant when the weather cooperates and you can sit outside – the chairs are comfortable and inviting. However, there are also some significant weaknesses: There wasn't a single vegetarian dish on the menu – a real negative these days and certainly a deal breaker for many guests. The wine served was unfortunately a bit too warm, and the water in the women's restroom wasn't working – that really shouldn't happen. Overall, a mixed impression. Those who eat meat or fish and value atmosphere can still have a pleasant evening here. Vegetarians, however, will have a tough time.

We had a reservation but we could not go ( we could not get visa and our trip had to be cancelled) yet they charged 280 euros for no show fee. We paid 280 euros for a dinner that we did not eat. This is unbelivable. It was in their policy, I understand that the restaurant has to charge an amount for the empty table but the fee amount is a little bit high. So if you can not go, I strongly recommend you to cancel your booking.

The restroom facilities are outstanding – very clean, modern, and well-maintained. It was a very pleasant evening with good friends, and we'll definitely be back soon. We highly recommend it!

The menu was charmingly presented on a large slate board – clear, but with consistently impressive dishes. Every dish, from appetizer to dessert, was excellently prepared. A new, always unusual menu every day with guinea fowl, quail and much more depending on the season, plus a pleasant, upscale atmosphere without being fake. Great, courteous service from Salvatore without being intrusive, and good wine selection. What more could you want?

The food was freshly prepared and tasty. My steak was good but not superb. The service was rock-solid but not extraordinary. The location is very central but could be also a small pub when you look at the wooden furniture. Overall, what really scared me was the high price level combined with the setup and experience. I suppose the restaurant has many regular guests and does not necessarily need new customers.

We had skrei and saddle of veal. Both tasted very good, but were limited (especially when it came to the side dishes). I found it stingy that there were two (!) pieces of bread for everyone. Given the high prices, a “greetings from the kitchen” would have been expected. If you want to be full, you have to choose a second course and then, including drinks, it easily comes to €75 per person. For such prices the seating is much too tight. A year ago the prices were much cheaper. There was also a menu. (Was it because it was a Saturday this year?)

Business event with about 25 people and the restaurant was overwhelmed. Arrived half past six, but food wasn't served until midnight half past eight. At 10, many of us left the restaurant before dessert. The food is mediocre. The map is small. There is no main course for vegetarians.

A lovely restaurant with delicious food and outdoor seating. The waiter was very accommodating and patient with us, the menu is unique every day and presented to each table on a chalk board. From first impressions, you could really tell this was a highly regarded restaurant amongst locals looking for a good time. I went with the schnitzel and a creme bulee for dessert. It is also not really comfortable to sit, the chairs are hard and the tables are too close together. The cuisine is German, large portions, heavy on the stomach. They work with a menu board. Above and beyond! Non touristy, great food and top notch service. Take the extra 10 min to all from the center and get to this place. We tried the gazpacho, oysters, goat cheese salad, duck, schnitzel and more. Everything tasted great and the server was amazing!

Kleine Karte auf einer Tafel, schöne Auswahl an Speisen und Getränken (inkl. Wein). Service super, nicht aufdringlich, aber sehr flott und aufmerksam und sehr freudlich. Einzig die etwas lautere Athmosphäre könnte man ein bischen bemängeln trotz Akustikdecke. Wir kommen definitiv wieder!

Spontaneous visit without reservation on Friday evening is brave - but it worked! The four of us sat outside under a radiant heater and everything was perfect: perfect food with fish risotto and truffle pasta in a Parmesan wheel, with Reisling from the Künstler winery, and the dessert was also outstanding. Daily changing dishes, "manageable" portions, but above all very well prepared, well-balanced in taste and very neatly presented, attentive service, good timing in terms of the course flow,... What more do you want? The price is well above the system catering, but the quality is worth it. The somewhat limited wine selection doesn't bother you: you can always find the right drink. The pasta, which is prepared in front of the guests in a Parmesan cheese wheel and with freshly grated truffles, is also a nice idea. Very pleasant (I have experienced this differently in other restaurants): the guest is not complimented after a certain period of time. And what's almost even more remarkable is that guests without reservations are willing to wait outside until a table becomes available, even in winter. The only negative point: a spare roll should be kept in the toilet. Otherwise: full praise. Gladly again!
