Harry's Frittenschmiede in Bochum

We spontaneously went there for the first time and ordered a taxi plate. The portion was really large. The fries were delicious and crispy. The currywurst and sauce were very, very tasty. And the gyro + tzatziki tasted really, really good. The service was also very friendly. We'd love to come back :)

We ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and you can tell that a lot of effort has been put into it; everything is handmade and fried in a pan...and the price was certainly reasonable for a real veal schnitzel in a restaurant. However, as someone with experience in the kitchen and restaurant industry, I have to say that there were probably mistakes in the preparation, as the meat and breading were two different things that looked rather off-putting on the plate. I suspect that they forgot to add flour before breading...I hope it was an oversight because the taste was great...The Frittenschmiede left an LGBTQ-friendly impression on me and I think it's good 👍

June 17, 2025: Another visit to Frittenschmiede. This time schnitzel, fries, and salad. Simply excellent. The service was stunningly charming. The location was as quaint as ever. November 29, 2023: Top-notch as always, the price is reasonable, and the service is as friendly as ever. What more could you want? Frittenschmiede is a cult favorite. I've been coming here since 2005. Unfortunately, I live about 110 km away. You can live without Frittenschmiede, but does that make sense? Not really. On the way to the Ruhr area, I program the navigation system or set the stopover as "Frittenschmiede." The location, including all the food, is simply top-notch. An absolute highlight as a snack. Affordable, fresh produce, and generous portions. Where else can you choose the thickness of your fries? I've never had chili cheese fries like this before. If you're expecting the typical cheese sauce, you're in the wrong place. A spicy, red tomato sauce with grated cheese on top. Topped with jalapeños and pepperoni. Different from what I expected, but still somehow great...

A very good snack bar with fresh, homemade products and a good selection of meatless dishes. The Frittenschmiede definitely stands out from other fries in the area! Always a good choice!

The Frittenschmiede is a very hot topic, that's how much of a play on words it has to be. A snack bar with charm, a nice outdoor area, an extensive menu and always friendly staff. In short: The prototype of a snack bar in the Ruhr area. Another special feature are the fries, they come in two sizes, 7 and 11 mm wide. There are also vegetarian and vegan sausage options and vegan mayo. Haven't tried it yet, but at least an option for vegan snack bar romantics.

Good chip shop in the heart of Wattenscheid with reasonable prices

The food is excellent, the atmosphere is very nice and the service is just as you would expect at Pott. I enjoy coming here often.

The food was fine - solid takeaway fare, well seasoned and freshly prepared. Unfortunately, the experience is greatly marred by the owner. Not only was he unfriendly, his tone was also clearly condescending. Overall, a very negative aura that can quickly spoil your visit. It's a shame, because if we treated people more respectfully the store would be worth recommending.

Sometimes a bit crowded but that doesn't speak against Frittenschmiede but rather in favor of it.

Absolutely TOP! The schnitzels are made on site, breaded, etc. And also fried in the pan! They taste incredibly delicious. 10 stars if possible. I've been to Harry twice now and come from 70 km away. But there's nothing remotely comparable. And the 70 km are definitely worth it. Harry is also a super nice guy, a Ruhrpott original.

Simply a great chip maker! The rooms are very clean and the cozy atmosphere invites you to linger. The chipmaker seems to be a very relaxed person. He and the staff are very friendly and prepare the food quickly and very tasty, despite many orders. What I've tried so far has always been great! You should order the hotter version of the curry sauce. This is more spicy than really spicy, giving the sauce, which is already very tasty, an additional plus point. Harry's Chip Forge is cult! Very tasty dishes, whether fries, schnitzel, frikandel, gyros... everything tastes good! Harry and his team are great! The snack bar is lovingly decorated with beautiful details, and there are cozy seating areas outside. A really great Ruhrpottfrittenbude! We always enjoy going there 👍🍟

Even our vegetarians are happy here because the selection is so huge. My schnitzel was one of the best ever. Freshly cut, beaten and breaded, I've never experienced that in a "chip shop". The side salad put together with a lot of love. Thanks for that! And Harry, yes Harry is a Wattenscheider original anyway, a guy with a lot of heart, just genuine. And his shop represents exactly all of that! We always enjoy coming back!

The food was super tasty, the boss and staff were super nice, the selection was really good and the atmosphere was supposed to be just like a snack bar in Pott. Was there for the first time today, recommended by my friend who often orders something and I ordered the taxi plate and by far the best taxi plate I have ever eaten. Fries nice and crispy, I chose the thicker version, the curry sauce was a dream and the sausage was also very tasty and the gyros were also great. The portion was also great, I was full and that's saying something and the price is really humane. I found the atmosphere really cozy, took the food with me, but wanted to sit in with my friend. The boss and the waitress were super friendly and said hello to my friend. I live in Essen and will definitely come back again soon, hats off to you. It's very rare to find chip shops with such charm these days.

You definitely can't go wrong with a visit to Harry's Frittenschmiede. Here we cook freshly and with love in front of the guests. The schnitzel meat is freshly cut, pounded and breaded. The owner is very friendly and takes good care of his shop and his guests. I had a classic currywurst with fries, which had nothing wrong with the taste. The sauce was delicious, as were the fries. You even have the choice between different cutting sizes. As soon as I'm back in the area I'll come back.

Really good food, you can choose from many different types of fries. Large selection of bratwursts, also in veggie versions. The only small drawback is that the very careful preparation takes some time, so you have to wait a little longer than usual for your excellent food.

I think Harry has been on Hülserstrasse since 2007. A lot has happened at "Harry's Frittenschmiede" since then. Whether classics or our own creations, the food tastes authentic. And that actually in my opinion. Better today than it felt like 10-12 years ago. The service is good, and even unusual customer requests are gladly implemented. The ambience? Solid Ruhrpot charm. You can sit here and eat, or even stay a few minutes longer than planned. Guys, it's still a takeout location and not a steakhouse. Nevertheless, the atmosphere seems cozy. And you can tell that a store is really good by whether regular customers come and go. And that is the case here every day. The only drawback: I miss the raspberry fries. Yesterday my wife bought currywurst with fries to take away twice for me and for herself. Fries could have been fried for 30 seconds longer - one of them eats it badly the other one doesn't. The sausage was of good quality. The curry sauce, well I think it would go better with shish kebab than with sausage. You can eat it, yes, but I don't think it's a good curry sauce. On the whole, I would rather try something else than the currywurst, the selection is large. I think you can even choose between thick and thin fries.

Yesterday I went to Harry's Frittenschmiede again and ordered the pan schnitzel with pepper cream sauce. Plus fries with mayo. Rounded off with a nice Fiege Pils. I really enjoyed the food. I'm from Wattenscheid and come from Gelsenkirchen Buer to eat here. Harry the owner and his team are very nice and friendly. I'm happy to take this route for the tasty dishes.

Must go when I'm in the pot at home! There are only a few shops like this left...!

Went out to eat again. Everyone ate currywurst, red and white fries and ordered a drink. Since I was with my family in Schwirzheim and I was being driven back to Bochum, we had the idea of ​​stopping at the Frittenschmiede like we used to. Things had to happen quickly because the return journey to Schwirzheim (Rhineland-Palatinate) was still pending. But it was very full. Nevertheless, we were well served and the food was very tasty. The certain calm despite the stressful situation that the boss exuded really impressed us.¹

Fries are okay. Recommend the thicker ones. There is still plenty of room for improvement when it comes to currywurst. No comparison with the Dönninghaus sausage and sauce.

The quality and quantity of the food is excellent, the people are super nice and you always feel welcome and anyone who has even a hint of joy and interest in very good fries and real Ruhrpot romance must have been to Harry's at least once. This is more than just a fast food joint.

Excellent service and a huge range of cult dishes for years. The fire meatball with fries special is the reason to drive several kilometers there! Best meatball ever! In addition, daily specials such as Chilli from Carne are offered and a wide selection of drinks like in the drinks market. Everything has always been great! Ordered there for the first time yesterday. Was there 5 minutes before the agreed time and the food wasn't ready yet! It was really prepared just in time so it was really hot and crispy. We ordered Jäger and asparagus schnitzel with fries. Everything was really impeccable and almost at restaurant level. So we will order here more often and eat outside when the weather is better.

Die Pommes sind knusprig und braun. Ich habe seit Jahren keine so guten Pommes gegessen! Das Essen ist frisch und schmeckt.

Mega gut. Und als Krönung habe ich noch den Bürgermeister der Herzen getroffen.

Ich kenne die Frittenschmiede noch aus ihren Anfangszeiten und ich war damals wirklich begeistert was die Qualität, Sauberkeit, Schnelligkeit und Freundlichkeit anging. Es war ERSTKLASSIG für einen Schnellimbiss und hatte seines gleichen Gesucht! Ein richtiges kleines Schnell-Restaurant! Das ist jetzt leider fast alles Geschichte... (Sauber ist es noch!). Die Qualität hat zunehmend nachgelassen, auf seine Bestellung wartet man lange und die Freundlichkeit der Angestellten schwankt, je nach Tagesform. Eine Pizza Gyros und eine Pizza Funghi Doppelt Käse. Der Laden war damals leer und ich musste trotzdem über eine halbe Stunde lang warten. Damit leider nicht genug. Die Pizza Funghi hatte leider KEIN doppelt Käse an Bord, dafür aber meine Pizza Gyros! HALLO? Pizza Gyros doppelt Käse? Da ist eigentlich Schafkäse drauf, davon war aber nichts mehr zu schmecken. Das Gyros und die weiteren Zutaten waren geschmacklich auch im Käse ertrunken. Diese Pizza war somit völlig Verhunzt. Naja, danach war ich 1,5 Jahre lang nicht mehr dort. Heute wollte ich es nochmal versuchen und habe es bereut. Mittlerweile ist dieses anfänglichst so hervorragende Schnell-Restaurant, naja... Das Ergebnis: Die Burger waren Fettig, Die Bratwurst war nur sehr kurz angebraten. Ich werde mit Sicherheit diesen Laden nicht mehr betreten.

Harry ist ein ausgezeichnetes Ruhrpott-Original und seine Currywurst-Pommes ist sehr zu empfehlen! Musste leider mittlerweile auch im Ruhrgebiet lange suchen sowas! Freue mich schon darauf, beim nächsten Mal das Jägerschnitzel zu probieren.

Ich und meine Frau haben uns jeder Schnitzel mit Pommes bestellt zum da essen..was wir auch sagten zu dem Herrn..das wir da essen möchten..Darauf hin sagte man uns das man sich schon mal setzen könne..weil viel los sei..Wir saßen dann etwas über eine halbe Stunde..bis der Besitzer uns rief das Essen sei fertig und stand mit dem Essen eingepackt da und wollte kassieren..Haben ihm dann gesagt..das wir da essen wollten und es seinen Kollegen auch gesagt haben und er auch meinte..wir sollen uns schon mal setzen weil viel los sei..Darauf schrie der Besitzer uns an mit den Worten…Das kann nicht sein und wir sollen keine Märchen erzählen und schauen das wir Land gewinnen..Haben darauf dann nur gesagt ist ok und wollten gehen..weil er auch sehr aggressiv wurde..Darauf meinte er dann noch das wir das Essen trotzdem bezahlen müssten..ansonsten schmeißt er es in die Tonne..Haben dann gezahlt und sind wortlos raus..Bin mittlerweile 64 Jahre alt und habe sowas noch nicht erlebt und werde in Zukunft nen Bogen dort machen

Hier schmeckt wirklich alles durchgehend gut. Egal ob CPM, Schnitzel oder auch der Burger. Witzig: Es gibt dünne und dicke Pommes! Man muss sich entscheiden. Außerdem geil: Er hat alle Sorten an Fritz Limo! Harry ist immer freundlich und zuvorkommend. Man kann im Sommer draußen sitzen und sein Essen im Freien genießen. Der Ruhrpottstyle ist nice. Eine der fünf besten Imbissbuden im Pott!

Super TOLLE Pommes. Endlich wieder Cross und Lecker. Auch die Currywurst, die Frikadelle und auch das Gyros waren sehr lecker . Werde auf jeden Fall dort wieder essen.

Ich komme immer wieder gerne hier hin. Das Essen ist klasse, man kann gut sitzen und alle hier locker drauf. Hier bei uns in Wattenscheid mein Stammimbiss. Macht weiter so.

Perfekt für ne Mittagspause. Definitiv Unikat mit Charakter in Bochum. Sitzen außen&innen, Gyros vom Spieß, Pommes in versch. Größen, vernünftig gegrillte Würste (Keine halb durchgebrannten oder altes Fett) und kompetentes Ruhrpott-Personal. Preislich realistisch und fair, hatte mich gewundert mit unter 10 Euro satt zu werden bei Euch. Alles Gute weiterhin ans Team :)

Wir sind langjährige Gäste bei Harry und waren stets sehr zufrieden. Wir gehen schon fast zu selten hier hin :) Ich bin mit den vegetarischen Optionen sehr glücklich! Pommes sind hervorragend und die vegetarische Currywurst mit scharfer Soße kann ich sehr empfehlen. Harry ist zudem auch immer offen für konstruktive Kritik! :)

War heute zum ersten Mal dort. Leckeres Essen zu fairen Preisen. Bei schönem Wetter sitzt man nett und beschaulich auf der Außenterasse unter Sonnenschirmen. Im Hintergrund plätschert ein Brunnen. Hatte einen Taxi-Teller bestellt. Man kann zwischen 2 Pommesgrößen wählen. Ich hab' mich für die Größeren entschieden. War alles sehr lecker.
