Coole Pommesbude, wie es sie immer seltener gibt. OK, Wattenscheid ist auch speziell. Da ist Harry s Frittenbude wie der Fels in der Brandung. Essen war lecker, Personal sehr nett (wirklich zuvorkommend) und das Ambiente etwas Besonderes. Ein Punkt Abzug, weil auf der Currywurst kein Curry war. Gerne wieder...dann sage ich, dass Curry drauf gehört.

Sehr gut kann es nur weiterempfehlen

Pommesbuden Flair mit Restaurant Qualität. Ein Muss für jeden, der Currywurst und Schnitzel liebt. Aber auch sonst wartet diese seit 20 Jahren eingesessene Pommesbude mit vielen Highlights auf, die nicht selbstverständlich sind. Hier werden z.B Schnitzel frisch geschnitten, geklopft, paniert und gebraten. Nudelsalat und Frikadellen sind hausgemacht. Pommes gibt es mit 7 oder 11mm Schnitt und die Auswahl an Soßen ist auch nicht alltäglich. Es gibt drinnen und draussen Sitzplätze in ausreichender Zahl. Die Lage an einer Hauptstraße sorgt für eine gute Erreichbarkeit, auch wenn die Suche nach einem Parkplatz schon mal etwas schwierig sein kann. Das Personal ist enorm schnell und trotzdem sehr freundlich und der Besitzer nimmt sich auch gerne die Zeit für ein paar nette Worte. So fühlt man sich, als wäre man zum Essen bei Freunden. Selbst wenn die Preise minimal höher sind als bei einer durchschnittlichen Pommesbude, das Essen ist jeden Cent wert und die Portionen sind großzügig bemessen. Kartenzahlung ist hier auch möglich. Kurzum, wer die Möglichkeit hat, der sollte sich hier wirklich durch die Karte durchprobieren. Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Sehr leckerer Imbiss! Die Pommes waren schön knusprig und die Currywurst richtig gut gewürzt. Alles frisch, schnelle Bedienung und super freundlicher Service. Man fühlt sich direkt willkommen. Komme auf jeden Fall wieder — absolut empfehlenswert!

Nichts lieblos aus TK in die Mikrowelle oder Fritteuse geschmissen, sondern frisch und mit liebe zubereitet, daher dauern die Gerichte ein paar Minuten länger. Da nimmt man das gerne in Kauf! Preis Leistung unschlagbar, ich hatte Schnitzel / Pommes / Salatbeilage / Cola: unter 10 € !

VORSICHT !!! Hatte Schweißausbrüche nach dem Essen und mir war total schlecht. Gyros war an fast allen Seiten noch total roh und die Pommes hat geschmeckt, als hätte der Herr das Fett seit 1974 nicht gewechselt. Nicht nochmal. Was das Essen angeht, hat es total nachgelassen wie man an meiner Rezension merken kann. Der Herr hat nur noch so "viel" Kundschaft, da man ihn kennt.

Wir waren heute zum ersten Mal dort. Insbesondere die Currysauce schmeckte vorzüglich. Probiert dazu unbedingt die Cola mit Lakritz. 😎 Ein ehewürdiger Laden mitten im schönen Wattenscheid.

Es ist sehr lecker mit guten Preisen. Große Portionen sind wirklich groß und die Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich. Dicke dicke Empfehlung war der beste pommesladen wo ich jemals war!!

Top 10/10, die pommes Portion ist für 4,50 riesig, schmeckt mega lecker. Die Ambiente vor allem im Sommer draußen ist sehr angenehm.

Das Essen ist richtig lecker auch vegetarisch gibt es dort was richtig gut schmeckt. Vom Koch eigenhändig zubereitet. Alle sehr freundlich.

Wir waren heute im Kreis der KollegInnen im Rahmen eines Workshops zur Mittagszeit bei Harry. Wir waren alle begeistert, Essen war super lecker und Harry ist ein toller Typ. Ruhrpott pur. Wir kommen wieder.

Hömma, wat willtse mehr? Hier gibt et noch rischtig wat feines auffe Gabel. Der Harry isn feiner Kerl. Immer n Spruch auffe Lippen. Dazu top Auswahl und et schmeck einfach. Bisschen morden für ne klassische Pommesbude umme Ecke, aber man muss ja auch mitte Zeit gehen. Jehste vorbei, holst dir n Taxiteller und bist glücklisch!

Sehr leckeres Essen und netter Chef der was von seinem Handwerk versteht. Schnitzel wird im Hintergrund noch frisch geklopft und der Taxiteller was mega.

Das war einfach top. Super nette Bedienung, Tolle Auswahl und Qualität auf Restaurant Niveau. Wir kommen gerne mal wieder vorbei.

Gute Pommesbude. Aber das man allein um zu bestellen über eine halbe Stunde warten muss, um dann nochmal ewig auf sein essen zu warten. Schade bin wieder gegangen...

Harry's Frittenschiede: Die Frittenscmiede aller Frittenschmieden. Hier gibt es alles was des Pommesbudenliebhabers Herz höher schlagen lässt. Sogar zwischen dünnen und dicken Fritten kann man wählen. Und mit etwas Glück trifft man hier auch Lokalprominenz! Also: Nichts wie hin ...

Super tolle pflanzliche Optionen! Ein Omnivore wird auch sehr glücklich, die Auswahl an Gerichten ist groß. Die vegane Currywurst schmeckt total "echt" und einige der Saucen sind auch vegan, sodass man wirklich gut versorgt ist. Vegane Schnitzel und vegane Mayo gibt es auch. Super lecker!

Super lecker von Pommes bis Pizza. Sehr nettes Personal. Manchmal muss man ein wenig Zeit mitbringen aber es lohnt sich zu warten. Gut Ding braucht Weile 😋

Wirklich sehr sehr guter Imbiss! Wir haben spontan keine Lust gehabt zu kochen und nach veganen Optionen gesucht. Durch Zufall über Happycow auf diesen Imbiss gestoßen. Das Essen war super lecker, die Mitarbeiter freundlich und die Bestellung ging problemlos per Telefon zum abholen. Sogar vegane Mayo für die Pommes. Findet man nicht oft. Absolute Empfehlung, wir werden hier definitiv wieder essen. 10/10

Heute bei der Harry Frittenschmiede in Wattenscheid gewesen. Der Taxiteller war magaaa: große Portion, gutes Fleisch, Pommes schön knusprig. Preis-Leistung stimmt hier einfach. Sehr zufrieden!

Heute den Taxi-Teller bestellt – und wow, perfekt im Geschmack! Die Pommes knusprig, Currywurst saftig, Gyros fleischig mit toller Tzatziki und Peperoni-Kick. Die Topp-Mayo rundet alles ab, 10,80€ fairer Preis. Dazu netter Plausch mit dem Inhaber, der total sympathisch und engagiert ist. Ein echter Geheimtipp in Wattenscheid. Komme definitiv wieder!

A cult spot. I used to go there all the time. I noticed that the chip shop is an important supplier for the hospital. Besides the food they get at the hospital, the patients still have a craving for junk food. So the place is doing well. But their specialty isn't particularly tasty. Unfortunately, the other dishes aren't even average. It's a shame. It's hectic, but the location is good. There's so much more potential here. They do a lot for culture; there are plenty of event listings lying around. But they lack the skill to make good snacks. The good thing is, it can be learned.

The food was of good quality; the restaurant truly deserves the name "Frittenschmiede" (French Fry Forge). The decor is simple and cozy.

Absolutely fantastic! The schnitzels are made on-site, breaded, etc., and pan-fried! They taste incredibly delicious. 10 stars if I could. I've been to Harry's twice now, and I come from 70 km away. But there's nothing even remotely comparable closer. And the 70 km is definitely worth it. Plus, Harry is a really nice guy, a true Ruhrpott native. By the way, I first became aware of Harry through the Schalke podcast "Blauer Salon."

Quaint decor, delicious fries and hand-pounded schnitzel. Unfortunately, it took a little longer for us because the lovely lady was standing alone behind the counter, but she had everything under control and the wait was worth it!

This was our first time at this snack bar in Wattenscheid, and we felt at home: tasty food and friendly service. The food and drink selection is exceptionally extensive!

A few years ago, my girlfriend and I still lived in Ückendorf. Since we moved to Switzerland, it's become a must to eat a vegan currywurst at Harry's whenever we're in the Ruhr area. The vegan sausage, the fries, and the curry sauce all get 10/10!

Harry's schnitzels are simply world-class...a rustic chip shop with an original Wattenscheider. If you're eating in the Ruhr area, you should definitely visit Harry's.

Super delicious currywurst in Wattenscheid! This small chip shop is unassuming, but it's a real highlight. You can sit comfortably outside under the trees while you wait for your currywurst, which can be made extra spicy if you wish. Harry himself is very friendly, welcoming, and funny. We'd love to go back.

We went there again today, after a long time. As always, it was simply delicious! We're already looking forward to our next visit.

We've often been craving fries and found the Frittenschmiede door closed. The opening hours take some getting used to if you're used to fries. But when you do pay a visit to the Frittenschmiede: We didn't particularly like the curry sauce. Quite sweet and too much like hot ketchup. We didn't like the bratwurst either. It had a consistency unlike any other chip shop we've tried over the years. It was more reminiscent of a meat sausage in a skin. I think I can get better results at home in a pan or with bratwurst from the supermarket. Not worth visiting a restaurant or paying extra for. Recently, there was some symbolism (alphabet soup) hanging in front of the Frittenschmiede (I think it was put on by the owner). It was somewhat inappropriate for a chip shop. For the reasons mentioned above, we will avoid the Frittenschmiede completely in the future.

I've been enjoying ordering from Harry's for years. The schnitzels are freshly pounded, breaded, and pan-fried. Fries are available in thick and thin strips, and my personal favorite topping is the Joppie sauce. World-class! All schnitzels are also available in a veggie version, and they taste just as good. The other dishes, such as falafel pockets, burgers, and various grilled dishes like the Taxi plate, are also lovingly prepared and are highly recommended.

I'm very satisfied. The food is delicious and fresh. Schnitzel, for example, is only cut and breaded when ordered, and then fried fresh. The service is always very friendly, too, and I'll be happy to come back! Thank you.

Super delicious, and the service is top-notch. The selection of dishes is large, and there's something for everyone (even vegans and vegetarians). So far, I've never been disappointed; I've always been happy with my order. Even when there are a lot of customers, you're served politely and the time is taken. Above all, the restaurant breaks away a bit from the typical "chip shop" experience. But only in a good way. It's LGBTQ-friendly, you always feel welcome, and yet it's rustic and simply Ruhr region, as you know it.

Since moving to Bochum, I've been on the hunt for the best currywurst. And now I'm sure you can definitely get it here, and in portions so large you could eat it for days. The customer service is absolutely 10/10. Choosing the thickness of your fries yourself? It's possible! There's a huge selection of dishes and drinks, so there's always something for everyone. You'll be truly pampered here, all in a truly lovely Ruhrpott atmosphere. Highly recommended!

We spontaneously went there for the first time and ordered a taxi plate. The portion was really large. The fries were delicious and crispy. The currywurst and sauce were very, very tasty. And the gyro + tzatziki tasted really, really good. The service was also very friendly. We'd love to come back :)

We ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and you can tell that a lot of effort has been put into it; everything is handmade and fried in a pan...and the price was certainly reasonable for a real veal schnitzel in a restaurant. However, as someone with experience in the kitchen and restaurant industry, I have to say that there were probably mistakes in the preparation, as the meat and breading were two different things that looked rather off-putting on the plate. I suspect that they forgot to add flour before breading...I hope it was an oversight because the taste was great...The Frittenschmiede left an LGBTQ-friendly impression on me and I think it's good 👍

June 17, 2025: Another visit to Frittenschmiede. This time schnitzel, fries, and salad. Simply excellent. The service was stunningly charming. The location was as quaint as ever. November 29, 2023: Top-notch as always, the price is reasonable, and the service is as friendly as ever. What more could you want? Frittenschmiede is a cult favorite. I've been coming here since 2005. Unfortunately, I live about 110 km away. You can live without Frittenschmiede, but does that make sense? Not really. On the way to the Ruhr area, I program the navigation system or set the stopover as "Frittenschmiede." The location, including all the food, is simply top-notch. An absolute highlight as a snack. Affordable, fresh produce, and generous portions. Where else can you choose the thickness of your fries? I've never had chili cheese fries like this before. If you're expecting the typical cheese sauce, you're in the wrong place. A spicy, red tomato sauce with grated cheese on top. Topped with jalapeños and pepperoni. Different from what I expected, but still somehow great...

The Frittenschmiede is a very hot topic, that's how much of a play on words it has to be. A snack bar with charm, a nice outdoor area, an extensive menu and always friendly staff. In short: The prototype of a snack bar in the Ruhr area. Another special feature are the fries, they come in two sizes, 7 and 11 mm wide. There are also vegetarian and vegan sausage options and vegan mayo. Haven't tried it yet, but at least an option for vegan snack bar romantics.

Good chip shop in the heart of Wattenscheid with reasonable prices

The food is excellent, the atmosphere is very nice and the service is just as you would expect at Pott. I enjoy coming here often.

The food was fine - solid takeaway fare, well seasoned and freshly prepared. Unfortunately, the experience is greatly marred by the owner. Not only was he unfriendly, his tone was also clearly condescending. Overall, a very negative aura that can quickly spoil your visit. It's a shame, because if we treated people more respectfully the store would be worth recommending.

Sometimes a bit crowded but that doesn't speak against Frittenschmiede but rather in favor of it.

Simply a great chip maker! The rooms are very clean and the cozy atmosphere invites you to linger. The chipmaker seems to be a very relaxed person. He and the staff are very friendly and prepare the food quickly and very tasty, despite many orders. What I've tried so far has always been great! You should order the hotter version of the curry sauce. This is more spicy than really spicy, giving the sauce, which is already very tasty, an additional plus point. Next time I visit I'll try a schnitzel, they're supposed to be particularly good here. Thank you very much and see you soon!

Harry's Chip Forge is cult! Very tasty dishes, whether fries, schnitzel, frikandel, gyros... everything tastes good! Harry and his team are great! The snack bar is lovingly decorated with beautiful details, and there are cozy seating areas outside. A really great Ruhrpottfrittenbude! We always enjoy going there 👍🍟

Always thrilled! Whether it's sausages, fries, or, like yesterday, the schnitzel for the first time, we are always very satisfied. Even our vegetarians are happy here because the selection is so huge. My schnitzel was one of the best ever. Freshly cut, beaten and breaded, I've never experienced that in a "chip shop". The side salad put together with a lot of love. Thanks for that! And Harry, yes Harry is a Wattenscheider original anyway, a guy with a lot of heart, just genuine. And his shop represents exactly all of that! We always enjoy coming back!

I've never seen a snack bar that freshly plates the schnitzel and takes it through the breading street. And then fry it in a pan... I can't put into words how delicious my asparagus schnitzel was. Even some restaurants can't keep up. And that you can also choose between 2 thicknesses of fries. Guys, you have to make up your own mind. Simply TOP

Have done it umpteen times and never managed it... Finally implemented it today and ate it here... What can I say... Way too late. The food was super tasty, the boss and staff were super nice, the selection was really good and the atmosphere was supposed to be just like a snack bar in Pott. Was there for the first time today, recommended by my friend who often orders something and I ordered the taxi plate and by far the best taxi plate I have ever eaten. Fries nice and crispy, I chose the thicker version, the curry sauce was a dream and the sausage was also very tasty and the gyros were also great. The portion was also great, I was full and that's saying something and the price is really humane. I found the atmosphere really cozy, took the food with me, but wanted to sit in with my friend. The boss and the waitress were super friendly and said hello to my friend. I live in Essen and will definitely come back again soon, hats off to you. It's very rare to find chip shops with such charm these days.

You definitely can't go wrong with a visit to Harry's Frittenschmiede. Here we cook freshly and with love in front of the guests. The schnitzel meat is freshly cut, pounded and breaded. The owner is very friendly and takes good care of his shop and his guests. I had a classic currywurst with fries, which had nothing wrong with the taste. The sauce was delicious, as were the fries. You even have the choice between different cutting sizes. As soon as I'm back in the area I'll come back.

Really good food, you can choose from many different types of fries. Large selection of bratwursts, also in veggie versions. The only small drawback is that the very careful preparation takes some time, so you have to wait a little longer than usual for your excellent food.

I think Harry has been on Hülserstrasse since 2007. A lot has happened at "Harry's Frittenschmiede" since then. Whether classics or our own creations, the food tastes authentic. And that actually in my opinion. Better today than it felt like 10-12 years ago. The service is good, and even unusual customer requests are gladly implemented. The ambience? Solid Ruhrpot charm. You can sit here and eat, or even stay a few minutes longer than planned. Guys, it's still a takeout location and not a steakhouse. Nevertheless, the atmosphere seems cozy. And you can tell that a store is really good by whether regular customers come and go. And that is the case here every day. The only drawback: I miss the raspberry fries.
