Nice restaurant, but unfortunately the food was rather bland. The pepper sauce on the schnitzel was more like a thick, ready-made mush. This was the opinion of everyone at the table. For 25 euros, we expected more.

After some initial skepticism, I was completely surprised. The staff was incredibly attentive, friendly, and courteous. I always felt that they genuinely wanted me to have a wonderful evening. I was also very pleasantly surprised by the schnitzel, potato pancakes, and soup. The pork schnitzel was among the best I've had in Bochum. I'll definitely be back. Thank you for this positive experience.

We ate here for about the fifth time today (Friday, December 19th). We actually live in Hamburg, but we've really taken a liking to this restaurant in Bochum. Outstanding service! I don't know the names of the staff, unfortunately. The waitress was blond and about 30 years old. Wow, so incredibly good with kids! The drinks arrived super fast, and even though it was extremely busy, the food was there promptly. Absolutely delicious and generous portions. Once again, we're thrilled. A full 5 stars!

I stopped with a friend for a beer at the end of the day, which was very good. The service was initially pleasant. Too bad that after paying and giving a 20% tip, as we were leaving the restaurant an employee "whistled" at us and a waitress came running to find us, asking if we had paid. Very unprofessional and the first time I've been treated like this. Ciao.

The traditional Viennese veal schnitzel with fried potatoes is highly recommended! Freshly pounded and breaded, it arrived steaming crispy. The service was quick but friendly. Anyone looking for home-style cooking in Bochum will find pot roast, Königsberger meatballs, and the Mediterranean menu offers shrimp and, currently, mussels.

A very nice, homely restaurant on the boulevard. We had noodles with tiger prawns (No. 74) and a 200g rump steak. Both were perfectly cooked and served in a very generous portion. What we didn't like so much, and the restaurant can't help it, is that there's a water feature and a children's slide next door. Nothing against playing children, but you just have to go later for a leisurely meal. Thanks for the lovely evening.

I visited here for the first time with my wife. We had a reservation and were given a table right by the door. The ambiance itself is lovely. Well-kept rooms, high ceilings, lots of wood. Next to us was a table with 12 seniors, all of whom wore hearing aids and yet were constantly "yelling" at each other. ;-) A very nice group, but unfortunately also extremely loud. My wife and I barely had a chance to talk. With all the smooth, hard surfaces, the soundproofing definitely needs to be improved. The service was very attentive and friendly. I had a veal wiener, my wife a rump steak. Both were of very good quality and more than plentiful. Also, reasonably priced. I've paid a tenner more for a wiener elsewhere. If the noise had been bearable, I would give it another star immediately. Next time we'll just ask for a different table. Otherwise, highly recommended! 👍

The Taubenschlag is a true highlight in Bochum! The service is absolutely top-notch – friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food is freshly prepared, not frozen, and tastes simply amazing. What's especially great: You can watch live football here, enjoy a freshly tapped Moritz Fiege beer on tap, and in the summer, linger on the beautiful terrace right next to Bochum's oldest church. Inside, you'll find a cozy atmosphere that immediately puts you at home. A place where everything just fits – I'll definitely be back!

The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and everything else is just perfect here. We stumbled upon the Taubenschlag by chance, and since then we've been coming about once a month. When the weather's nice, you can even sit outside!

Overall, okay. The fried potatoes were really good. The schnitzel was okay, but the (packaged) pepper sauce was very weak. The prices were too high for the quality of the food. The church bells were incredibly loud and annoying. Therefore, it's better to eat inside.

Nice waitress. Parking is difficult, as it's downtown. The schnitzel was okay. The sauce, however, didn't impress me. Fries cost 3.50, fried potatoes an extra 4.50. Fiege Pilsner, well-tapped. The noise level is a negative. There's a children's playground right next door, and the church bells across the street constantly ring so loudly that you can't have a conversation.

It's wonderful that the dovecote is open again, and now with the VfL 💙🤍

The food and drinks were all excellent. Where else can you get German dishes with boiled potatoes? Of course, there are also light meals. International dishes round out the whole experience. The ambiance and service are top-notch; we, as guests, highly recommend this restaurant.

Great, delicious food and very nice service. The restaurant is also largely comfortably furnished. However, we personally find the light a bit too bright. It would be nice if it could perhaps be made a little darker.

The food was ok to good. The braised beef was fantastic. Price/performance ratio was unfortunately a bit too expensive (except for the roast beef and the cordon bleu) for what you got. Unfortunately, the dessert wasn't that good, both in terms of taste and the quality of the ingredients. All in all, quite ok.

(The only thing that bothered me a little was the very bright lighting in the entire location. Here you should dim the lights for the sake of comfort. I had the goose leg, about the size of a chicken leg from the discount store - but delicious, with pale red cabbage that didn't have much of an aftertaste, dumplings and a baked apple. Sauce was also very tasty. However, for €35 there was too little on the plate and the red cabbage was completely ruined. The friends who had the schnitzels were satisfied

The dovecote is a real culinary highlight! The chef has over 40 years of experience, which you can taste in every dish. The schnitzels were perfectly fried - crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside - and the fried potatoes and rosemary potatoes ideally complemented the taste experience. The spinach and crisp lettuce rounded the whole thing off and gave the dish a fresh note. The quality of the ingredients and the care taken in preparation were unmistakable. Every bite was 10 out of 10! Absolute recommendation for anyone who loves high-quality German cuisine. We'll definitely be back

Went to Bochum for the first time today and discovered this inviting restaurant by chance. I was a bit skeptical at first because there wasn't much going on, but then I went in and I have to say it was a hit. There are more locals here and there is good beer from the Fiege brewery on tap (Pilsener which was recommended by the waiter and was really the right decision). To eat there was kale stew with Mettwurst and smoked pork, which was also really tasty. All in all, a great pub that is worth visiting and the “locals” also left a very open impression towards “foreigners”. The cleanliness of both the restaurant and the toilets is also remarkable. CONCLUSION: I'll be back :)

What I definitely have to point out is: The old dovecote has become a modern brewery, which has not lost its old charm. Rarely have I seen such a clean place. I'm really picky about it. There is not a speck of dust anywhere. Like this and not otherwise 👍

I went there for dinner with friends this weekend. Waited over an hour for the food, the beer wasn't cold and the glass wasn't clean. Then the waiters shouted at each other in front of everyone and were clueless as to who should do what and where the order should go. So very disappointing. ONLY OK for watching football

We drank a few beers together in the dovecote at the weekend and had a lot of fun. The facility is a bit old and has been somewhat overhauled by the new owner. It's quite okay. But what I really have to complain about is the acoustics in the room. You can hardly have a conversation because it's totally quiet

Under new management since June 2024, this restaurant is wonderfully located in the small old town of Bochum - for small children right on the "play paradise" of the watercourse below the Kuhherten. Here there is a changing lunch menu and sometimes home-style cuisine, such as Königsberger Klopse or roast with boiled potatoes and red cabbage. - Yummy. When the weather is nice, enjoy outside or inside in a well-kept room. Happy to enjoy Fiege-Pils and watch football on one of the many screens. Nice service. See you again soon...

Ich habe das Schnitzel gewählt, das perfekt zubereitet war – außen knusprig, innen zart und saftig. Meine Frau hatte die Frikadelle, die ebenfalls hervorragend schmeckte. Man merkt sofort, dass hier mit Liebe und Sorgfalt gekocht wird. Auch die Getränkeauswahl war hervorragend und rundete das kulinarische Erlebnis perfekt ab. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der erstklassige Service – aufmerksam, ohne aufdringlich zu sein, immer zur Stelle, wenn man ihn brauchte. Alles in allem ein fantastischer Abend im Taubenschlag. Wir kommen definitiv wieder und können dieses Restaurant nur wärmstens empfehlen!

Were here again for the first time after the change of ownership. We were very disappointed. The beef roulade was good, but the sauce was thick like pudding and tasted artificial. The cordon bleu came with a salad that didn't come. The waiter was friendly and tried hard - but overwhelmed. He brought the food and you had to ask twice for the cutlery. Were there last time. What a shame!

I visited the restaurant at lunchtime and ate from the lunch menu outside. It took 5 minutes from the time we sat down to the first drink and 15 minutes until the food arrived. It doesn't get any better. The beer was freshly tapped and there was cordon bleu with fried potatoes and a side salad. The fried potatoes are homemade and well fried with onions and bacon. The cordon bleu was huge, homemade, freshly breaded and fried to perfection. You can't do it better. I'll definitely come here again.
