Hafenhaus Oldenburg in Oldenburg (Oldb)

The views from the large terrace outside are absolutely fantastic. Right by the lock! [The previous restaurant was also called "Schöne Aussichten" (Beautiful Views).] Inside, the ambiance is nice but quite cramped, especially if you're dining with a group. For separate group parties, there's a "wooden cabin" [styled like a ski lodge] for up to about 60 people. The heating isn't great during the colder months, but it's manageable. The radiator for the entire room is right next to the door. That area (and the table there) is extremely warm, while the other corners are noticeably colder, but still bearable. There's a noticeable draft whenever the door opens [but drafts can occur even without it, from who knows where]. Despite this, it's still a good place for parties. For example, cabbage walks or asparagus tours, but also private parties. Overall, the food is really good, attractively presented, and delicious. However, the portions are often quite small and rather expensive for what they are. The service is very good and friendly. Drinks arrive quickly, but the food often takes over an hour to arrive. Patience is required 😉

Stopped here for a break on a bike ride. You can sit by the lock basin and watch the ships. Very relaxing! Ate a dark wheat beer and chili cheesy fries 😋😋 Very beautifully situated location, super friendly, attentive staff!! Would go back again!! Highly recommend!! These were 5 stars. Now in 2025, we were there for lunch with nine people. The demeanor of one of the employees took a little getting used to. The tone and demeanor make the music!! It starts with the order. One dish was forgotten for nine people, and the place wasn't full!!! When we asked if they had a salad without onions, the answer was, "No, they're already ready for every dish!" After the FOPA of the forgotten dish was noticed, the atmosphere became a bit more relaxed. Suddenly, there was a different salad, and the person without food (they had to eat alone!!!) was offered dessert or something similar as compensation (in this case, it was €5.90, self-selected)! I'm guessing that the bill wasn't deducted at the end because someone in the group, who wasn't really aware of it, paid the bill. (If that's not true, I apologize.) But in my opinion, that's a poor performance for a place that charges decent prices and supposedly wants to be at the top. So, a recommendation for the real food is no longer possible. I'm happy to be proven wrong and am available for your feedback.

In short: The service was excellent, friendly, and very attentive. The ambiance, as always, was very good. Unfortunately, the Hafenhaus has become more and more of a fancy restaurant in recent years. The prices are steep and the portions small, although very tasty. But hardly filling. And then there are the drink prices!! Over €6 for a sea buckthorn soda, for example. So, I definitely don't need to go back. They charge a lot for the ambiance at the lock. There are definitely other nice places in Oldenburg where you can eat well and for less. That was very healing. For me, that was it.

We celebrated our wedding at the Hafenhaus on October 11, 2025, and it was perfect in every way. From the initial email contact with Regina to the planning with Jörg and the celebration itself, everything was just right. The team around Fai, who welcomed us perfectly, was professional, very personable, extremely on the ball, and left lasting memories for our guests. Lasse and his team also did a fantastic job guiding us through the night. The venue itself is gorgeous – modern, stylish, and cozy at the same time. The waterfront location and the special atmosphere made us and our guests feel immediately at home. The food was also outstanding: fresh, lovingly prepared, and highly praised by all guests. A special highlight: there were almost 100 of us, and no one had to wait very long! And here, too, the order of service was relaxed and "moderated" – fantastic! We couldn't have wished for a more beautiful venue or a better team for our wedding. A huge thank you to the entire Hafenhaus team – you made our day unforgettable (and not just for us)! 🥂✨

The Hafenhaus has an excellent reputation, and the food they serve is usually very good. However, I have to say that for 19 euros, the selection is really poor. There are no fresh rolls from a local bakery; they're just simple pre-baked rolls. Unfortunately, many of the cucumber slices were no longer fresh, which didn't look very nice. The selection of cold cuts is really poor. All in all, it's a solid breakfast where you expect a bit more than you get. The staff, however, are fantastic across the board, very friendly and accommodating!

The food and ambiance were good. The dishes were fresh and expertly prepared. Unfortunately, they forgot to call for the main course after the starter. We had to wait a long time for our food—it happens, of course. ;) The waiter apologized with a dessert, and we will, of course, be back.

Actually, no stars at all for the service! I went to this restaurant with friends and were unfortunately very dissatisfied with the service. Right from the start, we had to wait a long time before our drink menus were even brought. As the evening progressed, no one asked if we wanted to order anything else – even though we sat at the table several times with empty glasses, looking in vain for a waiter. Even at the end, when we wanted to order coffee, no one came to our table despite our attempts to get their attention. Ultimately, after a long wait, we simply paid and left the restaurant disappointed.

A very good restaurant with a pleasant ambiance and delicious food. It's on the higher end of the price range, but that's easily justified. The place is also well-suited for events.

A pleasant ambiance, especially when the outside temperature is pleasant, is offered by the Küstenkanal (coastal canal) at the Oldenburg Lock. The slightly upscale cuisine and attentive service make for a pleasant dining experience, ideally enjoyed in good company.

We had breakfast here. There's quite a lot to choose from, and they even offer small ice creams for the little ones. The window seats are interesting; you can watch the locks from there. The service at the harbor house is very prompt and attentive.

Generally, the restaurant is very tastefully decorated, and the food is "solid." The service staff, unfortunately, doesn't have the place under control. While the tables were comfortably full (30% of the tables were unoccupied), we were "virtually" forgotten at every step of the evening, or we had to wait a long time and get attention. After we were finally able to order, the food arrived, and at some point, after we were finished, the server handed us an illegible dessert menu. The problem is that no one came back to ask if we wanted anything else. So we had to wait a long time before we could even pay. The place is good and could do even better with more attentive staff.

There was nothing wrong with the ambiance or the cuisine. The value for money is hard to judge; these days, you probably have to dig a little deeper into your pockets if you want to eat out... However, the service was a complete disaster; we've never been served with such unfriendly and indifferent, almost arrogant service anywhere else... Only one member of staff understood how to treat guests in a restaurant... We would have gladly tipped the young lady, too. Unfortunately, a visit to a restaurant always depends on the service, and today it was simply abysmal... there's no other way to put it... It's a real shame...

We were there during the weekday evening and were able to sit outside. The food was okay, really average and nothing special. However, the (male) service was abysmal. We had to wait forever for the first contact; no "please," no "thank you." He was taciturn and grumpy. Absolutely rude and disrespectful. A female colleague brought us the food—so much friendlier and faster. We were finally able to order dessert from her. Unfortunately, the crème brûlée was cold and—worse—curdled. See photo. We would have liked to order another drink afterward. Unfortunately, that was impossible. Never again Hafenhaus.

Highly recommended, great service

We were there on a Thursday afternoon with two people. We wanted a bite to eat. We ordered burrata with grilled peach. The arugula was unfortunately very mushy. The burrata with the dressing was delicious. The grilled peach was four small slices of ungrilled nectarine. Upon request, we were given briefly grilled nectarines. All in all, a delicious meal, but poorly executed.

The lunch menu is promising, with a wide selection of options. Lunch is only served until 2 p.m., and a five-minute delay is not tolerated. Unfortunately, this isn't true for the menu. The selection is limited, but I highly recommend the falafel burger!

Unfortunately, the service was absolutely terrible. We arrived at 3:55 p.m. and sat until 4:30 p.m. without anyone taking our drinks or even bringing us our menus. We then got them ourselves after about 15 minutes, hoping that one of the waitresses might at least take our order. But that was also in vain... I think it's a real shame that none of the waitresses paid us even a moment's attention. At 4:35 p.m., we decided to leave.

Great ambiance, average food, poor service, and very high prices. That's how we sum up our visit. For two people, it cost just under €100 for water, two glasses of wine, an appetizer, and two salads. Given those prices, I expect reasonably good service. Unfortunately, we were barely noticed upon entering. After being assigned a seat, we had to wait for someone to come with a menu. We weren't greeted. A colleague came over relatively quickly and said, "Do you know?" From then on, everything went quickly and smoothly. Once the main courses arrived, no one else came to us. There was no question about whether the food was tasty, and no clearing. It wasn't until we went to the counter to pay that we were noticed again. The food was okay. But in my opinion, it wasn't worth the price (a simple mixed salad with a ready-made dressing and two pieces of goat's cheese for just over €20). It's a shame, because the location is really nice. We went there because we had a voucher, but we won't be back anytime soon. We like to spend a lot of money on food and also good money on tips. But here it was a real pain.

I've never experienced that before: They didn't want to offer me a table even though the restaurant was empty. I was there and wanted something to eat after paddling on the Hunte River. The restaurant was empty. The employee told me that was unfortunately not possible; the restaurant was too full and everything was reserved. That surprised me a lot because the restaurant was really only about a quarter full. I then dismantled my boat and packed it in the car, and when I was driving home, I saw that the restaurant was still relatively empty. I went back in and asked another employee if it was full and everything was reserved. She just looked at me in surprise and offered me a table. She couldn't explain why they hadn't served me food beforehand, so I couldn't have been that bad. I have no idea what the waiter's problem was, but it was definitely not a pleasant experience. Maybe he wanted to work a relaxed shift instead of serving more customers. I can't explain it any other way.

I went there with my family for dinner, and we ordered crab soup, fries, and a burger. The burger cost €20 and was half the size of a Biggie B burger and half as tasty! The only good value for money was the fries! All I can say is, to me, the whole thing seemed like a bit of a luxury treat.

The waiters mixed up our dishes several times, forgot about us, and simply left the food and drinks on the table. Distributing the drinks was left to us. I've never experienced anything like that before at a restaurant in this price range. After a certain time, we felt like we were forgotten on the terrace. There was no service for almost an hour, so we had to pay inside. Given the ambiance, I would have liked a bit more space for strollers/wheelchairs. Unfortunately, getting through was quite inconvenient. The food was delicious. But given the price range, I would have preferred a bit more of a feel-good factor.

We felt the burger and salad were rather expensive for the price. As a group, we had to make our meal selections several days in advance. It was a bit strange that there weren't enough of the Amazing Fries we ordered. On the other hand, the North Sea soda with sea buckthorn was very tasty. The service staff was friendly and attentive.

Yesterday I drank coffee and ate cake in the Hafenhaus again for ten years. The cake was delicious but it was a very small piece. But the coffee topped everything. Super tasty. Then I treated myself to a second cup. The employees greeted us all as if we were their friends. As the Terminator so beautifully said? "I'll be back:!

We had reserved a table on the occasion of my birthday and also asked that the table be decorated a little more stylishly. We arrived...no fancy table...no interest in congratulating us. When we bring this up, we are forced to apologize and an hour later, after we raise it again, a candle is put down. Prosecco ordered...is served arbitrarily with ice and mint (unfortunately unwashed and Prosecco contaminated with sand) STEAK FATTY AND GREASY 40e. There is no request for additional drinks or dessert... customers are not interested at all... tables are only being prepared for the next day. This staff is also ZERO interested in apologizing or something similar

Unfortunately disappointing - a total failure, especially with dessert. We had dinner at the Hafenhaus in Oldenburg today - and to be honest, I expected a lot more given the prices. It started with my husband's salad: There was a piece of plastic in it with the word "OPEN" written on it, like you see on packaging. This immediately destroyed my trust. Something like this simply shouldn't happen - especially not in a restaurant in this price range. I had the truffle pasta. The portion was tiny, the noodles stuck together and there was hardly any taste of the truffle. Overall, very bland and loveless – far from what I was hoping for given the price. The waitress was at least friendly and brought a new salad after our complaint - that was fine. But then dessert came – and I was honestly at a loss for words. My son and I shared the dessert variation, and it was a complete failure: -The crème brûlée had absolutely no taste – zero sweetness, rather salty. -The pistachio ice cream tasted artificial - why they don't work with the ice cream manufacturer here is a mystery to me. -The coffee cream was just bitter coffee in cream form. Without sweetness, without sophistication. -The mascarpone cream was thick, buttery and tasted of nothing. My son said: “Like butter”. And unfortunately he was right. I addressed all the points - but the full price was still charged. No accommodation. Conclusion: If you are not served anything sweet for dessert but rather tasteless masses, something is fundamentally wrong. And if plastic ends up in the food, you can no longer ignore the lack of quality.

As a vegan, I had great doubts as to whether I would have been able to eat anything other than rolls at the family brunch there. Of course, it has to be said that vegetarians and especially omnivores will find plenty of options there. Nevertheless, I had some vegan sausage and vegan cheese. There were also fried mushrooms, pineapple, melons, juice, margarine. The prices are not exactly low. A pot of coffee costs 12 euros. But I was really full and the shop is really pleasant. However, the owners should renew the website. There is nothing about the vegan offering there and you get a much less positive impression of the store than it is on site.

Although it is a little embarrassing to admit it, it was GPT chat who recommended the site to us. On the way by train we looked for "vegan places with views to eat well" and, among others, that was the one he recommended to us. It is about 20 minutes walking from the center (castle) but it is really worth it, both for the walk and for the stay itself. We were very lucky, but it is advisable to book. Correct, we were very lucky because the sun came out and we were able to eat on the terrace, in the sun, next to the river... Suffering! We are in asparagus season so they had several specials on the menu that we couldn't not try... And the asparagus salad with strawberries was to die for, what a contrast of textures and flavors please! And then the desserts were to lick the plate too. Nothing, one hundred percent recommended. 1.- Seasonal asparagus salad, with strawberries, pickled vinaigrette and arugula. 2.- Carbonara pasta with cherry tomato and truffle. 3.- Extra pike (with a touch of lemon). 4.- Serving of homemade bread with salted asparagus butter. 5.- not so bad. 6.- Chocolate ice cream with cookies and chocolate. 7.- Plum cake. 8.- wheat beer. 9.- Letter.

Swiss prices A salad with chicken breast 28 euros. My congratulations to the operators, you obviously manage to charge Swiss prices. But wait, you earn three times as much there as in Aside Germany...

Very nice restaurant - in a fantastic location - when it's summer in OL. Nice service, the food was very tasty. The portions could be a little bigger or the food could be a little cheaper. All in all, very nice and you pay a fiver more for the location. The champagne dessert is worth every penny.

The Hafenhaus in Oldenburg is a truly wonderful location that invites you to linger. From the moment you enter, you feel welcomed by the warm welcome and the super friendly service. Particularly noteworthy is the fast service and the personalized attention, with requests being addressed immediately. The drinks are excellent, and the food is simply delicious. The cozy outdoor area also offers a beautiful view of the lock and contributes to the relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend the Hafenhaus and am already looking forward to returning!
