A very friendly family run restaurant that serves amazing food. Seriously I went back the next day eager to eat the Goulash again! They are very friendly to tourists and speak great English. I have to personally thank them for being just the nicest people to me during both my visits, I'll 100% be back the moment in Berlin again. If your in Berlin and want some German food, eat here or you are missing out! Go...go now. Remember to check opening times :)

We made a last minute decision to venture here for a meal to end our mini break and it was a decision well made. Serving traditional German/Berlin hearty meals with a chalkboard menu only written in German our waiter talked us through each dish and helped us with our order. We settled on veal meatballs and goulash then finishing off with apple strudel, and all were absolutely incredible, hearty and a big warm foodie hug on a plate. We loved our evening here so much and it will be one that we'll remember for a long time to come. If we are ever in Berlin, this will be one on the top of our list of restaurants to return to without the question. Thank you for delivering such wonderful atmosphere and culinary delights. Great service great food, what’s not to like?!

Was visiting Berlin for the first time and came across this nice pub not far from where I was staying. Usually I shy away from solo meals but I appreciated the kindness of the staff and also the nice and warm atmosphere. Was looking to try shweinshaxe but was pleasantly introduced to the local special, which was very tender, very big portioned and a new and refreshing taste. Great experience all in all, would love to visit again if I travel to the city once more.

This place is incredible. Pork knucle is super delicious, goulash is indisputably great and the service and staff are very helpful and friendly. When I finished my beer, the second beer from the bar came to me in the same second 😅🤣

Absolutely recommended! The food was excellent – ​​freshly prepared, perfectly seasoned and lovingly presented. The service was very attentive, friendly and quick without being intrusive. I particularly liked the cozy atmosphere and the stylish furnishings. Price-performance ratio is absolutely right here! Me and my wife visited the restaurant on April 7th, 2025. It is a small, cozy restaurant with very tasty food and good cuisine. The staff was super friendly and I particularly liked the black beer. A special thank you to the boss for the great evening! I can only recommend the restaurant :)

It's very great here! Finally a real Berlin pub. There aren't that many of them anymore. The innkeeper gave us the best place and served us good Bohemian beer. Overall, the food was excellent. I recommend schnitzel and deer. And yes, you can also pay by card (EC/credit) here!! It does cost one thaler (1 EUR/3 EUR), but that's totally ok. Thank you, we'll be back!

Nice restaurant, quaint, promising. If you are a classic Berlin tourist, you will certainly find the food “so typically German”. But unfortunately there is no value for money here at all. 25 euros for a pork schnitzel and frozen fries? Margin maximization I hear you paraphrasing. Best business idea, however: Earn margin on tourists/customers through extortionate fees for card payments: EUR 3 for the option of paying via card. Smart, but the opposite of customer-centric or modern. It's 2025, not 1970. People are proven to spend more money when using card payments. That this even needs to be mentioned. Unfortunately, that is truly “so typically German”. As a guest you feel so obviously “milked”. But the service and the ambience are great, you have to admit that. So of course there was still a decent tip. As a tourist: you can do it As a Berliner: nope.

The extra flat rate of €3.00 for credit card payments (€1 for EC?!) really bothered us. The variable fees for a restaurant are around 1% of sales! This fee is therefore completely out of thin air and a pure rip-off. In addition, the food already has a high margin... 26 euros for a medium-sized pork schnitzel, fries and a dollop of cranberries... Unfortunately, the Thuringian bratwurst had nothing to do with the original; the sauerkraut didn't even taste like it was homemade. Even though the food was generally okay, we didn't go home with a good feeling and definitely won't come back.

VERY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Typical Berlin restaurant run by super kind and helpful father and son. There were 5 of us and we tried 5 of the 6 dishes available (the menu changes daily based on what they have and everything is homemade) and it was all delicious!!! Don't leave without trying the shank cooked at low temperature. The icing on the cake is the traditional strudel... divine!!! Definitely go. Prices are more than honest, we spent €30 per person for a dish + drink (the dishes are very generous)

Perfect cosy spot for an echt German dinner.

Absolutely amazing!! Speak German and English fluently, incredibly nice, and we felt totally welcome. The decoration makes you feel cozy and the food is great. The drinks too. Vegetarian was also included! If you're vegan, there are salad options. The bathroom is super clean and comfortable. Absolutely great beer and fruity wines. You can have a good time there. The service was always there to refill and was fancy when serving. We'll definitely be back!! (We recommend making a reservation or arriving directly at 6:30 p.m.)

I have returned to this restaurant on consecutive trips to Berlin and will go again next time I am in town, why?! Because Hackethal’s father and son team have created a welcoming environment with great food. You won’t regret a visit.

We had goose and steak. Both very tasty, and big portion. The waiter was also very nice.

Hollandpark in Berlin-Pankow is a green oasis that is perfect for relaxation and leisure activities. The well-maintained paths are ideal for walking, jogging or cycling, and the extensive meadows offer space for picnics or relaxation. The pond that has been created is particularly beautiful, exuding tranquility and providing a habitat for many animals. The playground is also a highlight for families with children. The clean surroundings and good connections make the park a popular excursion destination. Absolutely recommended for nature lovers and families!

Rustic pub with a weekly changing daily menu of around 10 dishes! Unfortunately we didn't eat there because we only looked on the website. The menu is not given there. It's best to call first. The service was outstanding! We would come again and again and then also for dinner 😉

This is a true gem in Berlin. I had traditional goose leg and my partner had veal meatballs. Both sauces were done with exceptional care with my dish being perfectly reduced. The service is carefully done. They were able to seat us at last minute but I would recommend calling or emailing to secure a reservation. Will return.

Very friendly little pub-restaurant: if you want to try very good, freshly made, down-to-earth Berlin cuisine (a small, constantly updated menu on a slate board) and enjoy a fresh beer (there is Czech Pilsner and Lager, and a dark house beer), for example, should take a look. If you have an aversion to hearty food or animal products, you should leave it at home 😉

We had the most wonderful experience dining at Hackethals for dinner tonight. The father and son team who served us were lovely and welcoming. The atmosphere is very authentic and cosy. The menu is only in German and seems to change frequently, however we were made to feel very comfortable and helped with what to order by the son who spoke English perfectly. I had a goose leg with cabbage and potato dumpling. Everything was flavourful and wonderfully cooked. The in house dark lager beer was so yum! I would go back just for the beer. We also shared the apple strudel which was very nice. Everything about our experience at Hackethals was perfect - the service, the food, the beer, the atmosphere. I love that it's on a quiet street away from any main area, truely feels like a real German restaurant experience - from the perspective of a tourist. Portions are large. Very convenient to public transport, only a few minutes walk from a station. I managed to book via email and on a Tuesday night the restaurant was full so probably worth booking ahead. If you get a chance to eat here on a visit to Berlin, do it! Thank you, Hackethals!

Extremely authentic, friendly and cozy! The German department of tourism should subsidize this lot. Niels and his father have been running the joint for 25 years - and it feels the part. The food is gloriously German. If you are lucky, you get to have shots with the crew - typical for a spot where the people love to serve you! Cheers Niels, Alex and Mina!! I've never eaten so well. The goose liver (€26.80) was really excellent. The (dark) house beer was excellent. Reservations are absolutely necessary as the location is small. The menu is small, seasonal and when the ingredients for a dish run out (after a few days) a new one is added to the menu.

We were staying in the hotel and wanted to go out for dinner with the family in the evening. By chance and with the help of Google we found this small restaurant (quite hidden in the residential area). The welcome was very warm and friendly (kind regards to Nils and his father). The food was very tasty and rich. (Mmmmhhhhhh nice Berliner Eisbein). If you like a good home-style meal, it's a real insider tip. We'll be back.

We have just eaten the most wonderful food here. The wife found it on Google as it wasn't far from where we were staying on Chausseestrasse. It's a lovely little place and we were lucky they managed to get us in straight away as we hadn't booked. Everything is in German, but if like us you aren't fluent(not even a little bit) don't be deterred, the staff are so very welcoming and friendly and they are happy to explain their menus to you, while having a laugh with you. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The food arrived promptly and was fabulous. We can't recommend the slow cooked venison and the veal Schnitzel enough and my son had the sausage which he thoroughly enjoyed too. The only downside is its our last evening in Berlin so we won't make it here again before going home

If you're looking for a vegan, gluten-free restaurant with a glass/steel facade and crazy fusion cuisine, you've come to the wrong place. But if you are looking for the atmosphere of a restaurant and home-style cooking with a lot of handwork, love and passion, this is the right place for you. Be sure to go and order at least 1 (better 3) of the dark beer. I have rarely drunk such good beer and eaten as well as I did here. Despite having 3 children, you were warmly welcomed and felt like you were in a village restaurant from the 80s that no longer exists. P.s.: The pork knuckle is brilliant.

A lovely bar hidden away from the high street, their own brewed beer is dark and sweet. Highly recommend a visit especially if you’re staying in the area.

Amazing place for traditional German cuisine. Unlike many other places in Berlin, it’s not touristy and the dishes are true to what most grandparents would whip up for lunch with their grandchildren. Can only recommend and will definitely return

I read a lot of comments about this restaurant, and resolved to visit today, together with my son... after walking 30 minutes,we reached the restaurant, and it was closed... evening at 19:30 , restaurant was closed... my dears... you have to indicate in the google, that you are closed... lets imagine our reaction... especially when you are hungry...

Nothing to complain with bill of 50 euro per person . Great environment as all guests and waiters speak English as if it’s not in Germany. 3 euro extra if not using cash

Don’t understand why this place is rated highly. Food tastes like out a packet. Waiter wouldn’t allow us tap water despite us ordering a bottle of wine.
