H1 am See in Meschede

For the past 18 years, I've driven every two weeks with my son, who uses a wheelchair due to severe spasticity, from the Sauerland region to Cologne, passing by the H1 restaurant along the way. We've also stopped here several times a year and have always been very satisfied. However, the lack of empathy and the exclusion we experienced here yesterday left me appalled and speechless, and it stayed with me all night. Normally, my son sits in his wheelchair in the car during the drive, and it's no problem to roll him into the restaurant. Yesterday, however, we were exceptionally traveling in our motorhome. The wheelchair is stored in the rear garage, and we carry my son into the motorhome. At almost 70 years old, it's not only time-consuming but also very difficult for me to carry my almost 40-year-old son up three steps from the motorhome to get him into his wheelchair for the restaurant visit, and then repeat the even more difficult process of carrying him back. Especially since we were traveling alone yesterday and had no assistance. Although I explained this situation at the restaurant and exceptionally asked to be allowed to take two pieces of cake back to our camper van to save myself the immense and physically demanding effort, to my great surprise and dismay, this was refused. We've truly never experienced this anywhere else. And this was from the very same server with the many piercings and tattoos on his face, who had served us so kindly so many times before and certainly couldn't complain about a lack of tips. After 18 years, this was naturally our last visit. A real shame.

The breakfast buffet is incredibly good!!! I'd love to come back again and again 😁

The food was great, but at €28 per person on Sundays it's not worth it compared to the weekday price of €19.80, hence the one-point deduction. I would prefer a different pricing structure.

We recently ate here with the family and ordered, among other things, the Wiener Schnitzel, pasta with shrimp, pasta with chicken, and the H1 Classic burger. While the dishes were attractively presented and served with a smile, the taste was underwhelming. It was particularly disappointing that the shrimp and the burger patty were undercooked – that shouldn't happen at this price point. I've been to this restaurant several times over the years and, unfortunately, I have to say that the food has never truly impressed me. The presentation and appearance are fine, but the taste falls far short of expectations. Overall, I was once again left with the impression that the food doesn't justify the price. Visually, the restaurant is appealing, and the location and ambiance are lovely, especially in the summer with the terrace. However, in our opinion, there's a lot of room for improvement in the culinary offerings.

We celebrated our wedding at H1 in June. It was absolutely magical! 😍 The venue was enchanting (and the weather cooperated perfectly), the team did a wonderful job preparing everything and making our evening perfect. All our guests were more than thrilled! The food was perfect, modern, and beautifully presented. We made the right decision to celebrate there and would do it again in a heartbeat. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and you immediately feel at home. We reserved a table in advance and even got a window seat. The staff were very friendly, the food came quickly and was delicious. The price was reasonable.

Price-performance ratio is not right

New and modern restaurant. We had a great schnitzel... with an excellent draft beer! Despite the crowd, we were helped promptly and our order was delivered quickly.

The food there was very delicious and the waitresses were very friendly 😊 The only thing there to complain is the price, the drinks there were a little priced outrageously and the food prices were fine… . But overall worth.

The H1 is a fantastic restaurant located right on the Hennesee lake. The food is excellent, the service is first-class, and the ambiance is very pleasant. We've been there several times and can wholeheartedly recommend the H1!

We didn't eat anything in the restaurant because, as soon as we entered, the waitress very rudely informed us that dogs were only allowed in the simpler front area. We then chose a table, but there was no sign of a server, so we left after waiting for a while.

We've rarely been treated so rudely by the service staff. We left before we even took our orders. Whatever the reason for that guy's bad mood, we'll never know. We had a delicious meal somewhere else. And it was fine.

We came here spontaneously and weren't expecting such a great restaurant! The location is beautiful, and the restaurant is lovingly decorated. The staff was always friendly, and the food arrived quickly. The menu was great, even for us vegetarians, and we left with full stomachs! If you're bringing a four-legged friend, you can sit a little further away but still very comfortably.

The H1 is located directly on the reservoir. We only had cake, espresso, homemade iced tea, and a lemonade. It was truly delicious, and the waitress even found us a spot to eat (we didn't have a reservation). We would definitely come back to enjoy all the other cakes and other dishes!

Great location right on the lake!

Nestled between green treetops and the manicured banks of Lake Hennessee, H1 offers a variety of culinary delights and a cozy atmosphere. On our last visit, my friend brought her dog with her. We were seated in the entrance area, which was perfectly fine. However, the waitress kept asking us the same questions every 10 minutes. Unfortunately, despite several reminders, we couldn't avoid this. As a result, we were unable to have the conversation we had planned. Outside, you can take a relaxing stroll after or before your delicious meal.

Everything is relatively new. We sat outside with a beautiful view of the lake.

It was busy on a Saturday a week ago. Unfortunately, a waiter initially ignored us and showed no interest in possibly showing us a table. We then had to ask at the counter again if there was any space available without a reservation. This worked out thanks to a somewhat nicer waiter. The food was mediocre for the hefty, high prices. Portions could have been larger. A good €18 for two small baked potatoes with an excessive amount of sour cream and a minimal salad. The taste was okay, but we've had better. The ambiance was quite nice. Whether we'll come back remains questionable. Unfortunately, there's less competition at the Hennetalsperre.

What a shame, a beautiful location, lovely terrace, beautiful weather, but part of the terrace is closed. All the other tables are occupied; the staff told us we should sit at another table, even though there are plenty of tables in the closed-off area. Too bad, we're going to another restaurant.

The food was delicious, there's nothing to complain about. However, one of the waitresses, a somewhat older woman with glasses, was very inhospitable and even rude. Such a shame. I think, if you don't feel like working, just stop, but don't throw cutlery around. Also, the coffee was very watery, yuck.

Today was my first visit to H1. I loved the ambiance. We sat inside, overlooking the lake. The service was very good, friendly, and attentive. The menu selection was good, with something for everyone: meat, fish, or vegetarian. We paid €75 for an appetizer, two main courses, and two desserts, each with two drinks. I don't think that's excessive. We'd love to come back to try more delicacies.

We were just "eating" here. We ordered a soda, a Vita Malz, a goulash soup, and a side salad with avocado oil and vinegar dressing, and a Kumpir with mushroom cream. It started with the lemonade being two months past its best before date and being brought to our table like that, which makes me doubt a proper HACCP concept. Then the food arrived: the goulash soup was nothing special. It tasted more like a ready-made soup than homemade. The bread that was served with it had some dried-on cut edges. The baked potato was lukewarm. The side salad came without dressing, even though the server had specifically asked for it. Then, instead of the avocado oil and vinegar dressing I ordered, they simply placed vinegar and oil on my table. There were fruit flies swimming in the vinegar. Delicious. The bottle was already corked, so the problem seems to be known, but the bottle was brought to the table anyway. Of course, I complained, and considering the mistake, I wasn't particularly friendly anymore. The expiration date was two months past. The waiter offered me something to make up for it, but I declined due to my extreme disappointment. Afterward, another waitress offered me something to make up for it. After cooling off, I agreed. When it came time to pay, the cappuccino and soda were on the bill, and we had to pay for them. By far the worst dining experience I can remember. A truly terrible host. Anyone who serves food that's two months past its expiration date should be ashamed of themselves.

What a wonderful ambiance, what excellent service, and we had an excellent meal. Unfortunately, I live in the neighboring country, otherwise I would be there at least once a week.

Highly recommended. Great service, delicious food, and a lovely atmosphere, plus views of Lake Hennesee. Easy access via the parking lot or the Hennesee hiking trail.

If you don't want breakfast, then there's no coffee either! With these words I took off my helmet and had to realize that this daytime catering offered no added value for me. FACT is, the staff stood chatting at the buffet, there were seats available inside and outside! After waiting 15 minutes, I had to find out for myself what was going on. Why didn't any member of staff point this out to me? How can it be that the service management doesn't want to generate additional sales? The quality of the food and ambience looked good. But the gastronomic idea is a taboo subject here. I am very surprised to be thrown out of the place like this after 20 years of experience in the catering industry!

A lovely restaurant with a beautiful terrace. So much for the positives. We went there for a cup of coffee and wanted to go back later for something to eat. There was no drinks menu. The coffee was absolutely terrible, very watery with hardly any coffee flavor. And unbelievably, we had to pay €9.80 for it. When we complained about it, we were referred to a manager. There, they made us look ridiculous and wished us a pleasant day. We'll never go there again!

Great food and a beautiful view. The schnitzel could have been a bit larger, but it was very tasty. The sweet potato fries, potatoes, and mushrooms were all delicious and perfectly cooked.

We were rudely turned away because we didn't have a reservation. It's fine that it's full, but that should also be said with a smile.

We ate at H1 am See today and have nothing but good things to say. The service was very fast and very, very friendly. The food was also good; we had currywurst with sweet potato fries and bread with aioli to start. The currywurst was served in a glass. It was two currywursts, which justifies the price. We were very satisfied, and the atmosphere is, of course, fantastic. We can definitely recommend H1. The cakes also looked great, by the way; maybe some of you will enjoy them in the afternoon.

It is and remains excellent. My wife had a salad bowl with shrimp, and I had chicken breast with an avocado dressing. I've never eaten anything like it. Simply fantastic. The service was as friendly as always, and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

Nice place with a very nice terrace overlooking the HenneSee

We were here for Saturday breakfast. The location is fantastic, very chic and modern, right on the lake, and if you want, you can even sit on the terrace. The buffet selection left us speechless because we couldn't eat everything that caught our eye. The price/performance ratio was really great, especially since many juices and water were included, as were thermoses of coffee. The quality of the food (much of it from local suppliers) was also impressive.

The ambiance was very nice, which can't be said for the overpriced food. My steak arrived lukewarm and was cold very quickly. The fries were so hard-fried that you could barely pierce them with a fork. My wife's baked potato was soggy inside, the mushrooms were served in glassware, and the salad was placed in the dressing on the plate, which is very unhygienic. The salad dressing was poured into the bowl first, making it look like there wasn't any. The chef needs more than just training.

Very disappointed! We had to wait 20 minutes to even be noticed. We then waited 50 minutes for a portion of fries and bruschetta. After about 40 minutes, we spoke to the manager personally. All he said was that it was rush hour and these waits were normal. A disgrace! Bad service, overpriced, and long waits! Not recommended.

Saturday evening, with great weather, at 8:53 p.m., my wife and I wanted to have a cocktail at the beautiful Hennesee at the H1. The staff behind the bar... well, actually, the waitress had just finished the last round... My question would be, Do you no longer need it? Do you no longer want customers? Then simply change your opening hours or sell the property to restaurateurs who are interested. What a shame considering the location!

Although the website says this restaurant is open all day, we were turned away at 11:30 a.m. They said it wouldn't open until 12:30 p.m. That's unacceptable. We traveled all the way from Brilon and didn't get anything to eat. So, everyone, stay away, plan something else...

Such a beautiful place! The buffet is unbeatable; there's definitely something for everyone! The staff is super friendly and accommodating. There's a play area for the kids; it was very relaxing.

This time I was there for the barbecue buffet, and it was amazing again. I even think it was better and more extensive than last year. There's something for everyone, and the price and quality are just right. Because of the holidays, it was very, very busy, which is perhaps why the service could have been a bit better.

Nothing to say about the food: it's good. One star less for: There's not enough paper towels in the women's restrooms. In the men's restrooms, the urinal flush is broken and there's no paper towel bin.

A lovely new restaurant on Lake Hennesee. Ample parking with two disabled spaces in front of the entrance. A beautiful, atmospheric entrance. The spacious restaurant overlooks Lake Hennesee and features a terrace spanning the entire width of the restaurant. We had a delicious lunch with currywurst in a preserving jar with spicy curry sauce, served with beautifully cut fries, which the sauce adhered to perfectly. The staff is polite and attentive. The restrooms are spotlessly clean, and there's a separate toilet for guests with disabilities, which is a well-thought-out feature.

The breakfast buffet is unbeatable; today we went to the grill buffet. A huge selection, and everything was delicious! Truly top-notch. Unfortunately, the servers weren't keeping up with refills...grilled cheese and baguettes were constantly empty. Such a shame!

A must-visit restaurant if you want to spend a few lovely days at Hennesee. The food was excellent every time; we always enjoyed our visit. The service left nothing to be desired. The H1 restaurant clearly has no idea how to treat guests. We arrived at 4 p.m. and were told, "The barbecue buffet starts at 6 p.m." Yes, thank you, we know that; it says so on the website. But then: "Unfortunately, you have to leave at 5 p.m." Why? The answer: "We need an hour to set up." My parents are retired and might need a little longer – couldn't they have just started at the other tables? The answer: "No, that's not possible, and we won't discuss it." Nowhere does it say that guests are no longer welcome after 5 p.m. The H1 restaurant should seriously reconsider whether it has any business in the restaurant industry at all. The food can't be good if they treat guests like that.

The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The coffee is excellent. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean; there's nothing to complain about. The service, however, leaves a lot to be desired. It sometimes takes a very long time, sometimes we get the wrong order, and then we're served unfriendly. That's a real shame, because the location of the H1 is really great. This probably makes people more likely to accept the service. The bright spot was a service employee with lots of tattoos (I forgot to ask his name); he really tried very hard and even said a kind word. Unfortunately, he wasn't in charge of us from the start. It wasn't our first time there, but the service issue was unfortunately not an isolated one.

A perfect start to the day! The breakfast buffet at the H1 am See is highly recommended! The selection is huge and of the highest quality. Fresh fruit, crispy rolls, a great selection of cheeses and cold cuts, spreads, and hot dishes like scrambled eggs and bacon – nothing is left to be desired here. I would especially like to highlight the many thoughtful details that make breakfast something special, such as regional products, freshly squeezed juices, and homemade cakes. The atmosphere right on the lake is simply gorgeous – quiet, stylish, and with a view of the water. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and cheerful, which made the visit even more enjoyable. For me, this is definitely one of the best breakfast buffets in the region. I would love to come back! Many thanks to Hannah for making my stay possible.

We celebrated our dream wedding at the H1 am See – and it was simply perfect! The location is beautiful and quiet – ideal for a relaxed, romantic celebration. The entire team was consistently friendly, helpful, and accommodated all our requests. The food was fantastic – both on the wedding day and at the regular restaurant, which we can also highly recommend. The restaurant was open as usual during the wedding, but as a party, you hardly notice it. You only share the restrooms with the restaurant guests, which wasn't a problem at all. We especially loved that we were able to pick up our things the next morning in a relaxed manner – the team had already carefully packed everything in boxes overnight. We really couldn't have asked for anything better. A definite recommendation!

We celebrated our wedding in June at this wonderful venue. It was an unforgettable evening! The atmosphere was simply gorgeous, and the entire team made sure we felt completely at home. We'd especially like to mention the chef at H1, who personally accompanied us in the background throughout the evening and took care of every little request with great dedication. The barbecue buffet, which we had discussed in detail beforehand, was simply amazing! Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and the taste was simply outstanding. Our guests were thrilled and are still talking about it today! The value for money was also absolutely perfect. We would like to thank the entire team from the bottom of our hearts! We spontaneously went to the lake in beautiful weather and wanted to grab a bite to eat. Even though there was only one table occupied on the terrace, they wanted to seat us and our dog in the "lobby," where it wasn't even possible to sit properly for a meal. No thanks. Apparently, they don't need that...

It's a shame you can't give a star rating at all. Unbelievable 😏 We were there without a reservation. We politely asked if they had a table for three people, but the person at the door was very rude to us. You can behave even if you don't have a table available. Which means I'll never go back. The problem is, they had tables available, too.

Yes, I can recommend this place; everything was perfect for me. I visited when the weather was nice, and everything was good in my opinion, and the food was delicious, and they even accommodated requests like a different side dish. Luckily, we made a reservation in advance and were able to sit outside. People who didn't had a reservation sat inside or, with a bit of luck, outside on the terrace with a view of the lake. Regarding the parking, I can say that we think it's great that it's free, but the downside is that in hot weather like the last few days, it's full and you have to drive around. We were lucky that someone was leaving and we got one.

Order took way too long, service was grumpy, it was a hot day, service was clear that they themselves would rather be on the beach than have to work..

Hello, we went to H1 for breakfast today. The food and service were very good 👍 What was missing for some of the dishes was the labeling (vegan, vegetarian, or not 🤷🏻‍♀️). Otherwise, everything was super good 😊

The service was very unfriendly. We had booked for nine people, but due to one of the guests being ill, we could only come with eight. Nevertheless, we actually had to pay for nine people. This was despite the fact that no one was turned away because of us, as there were still enough tables available. When we asked for a concession due to our large turnover of approximately €200, we were treated badly. We'll never go back.
