Gyros-Grill Santorini in Hamburg

Based on a recommendation as "the best Greek restaurant I know," we went to this grill on a Saturday evening. Since it was clear that it was a grill and not a restaurant, our expectations regarding the ambiance weren't particularly high. Unfortunately, "ambiance" isn't really the right word here. It's a small, dated dining room whose furniture is in dire need of updating. The menu is concise and offers something suitable for every taste and appetite. We had: Currywurst with fries – you can't really go wrong with that. Saganaki – that was exactly as expected. Spiros Platter – minced steak, liver, gyros – with fries = quantity over quality, that's how I'd describe it. The plate was far too small for the excessively large portion. Everything on the plate was smothered – meat on top of fries, and both in tzatziki :-( Serving the fries in a small bowl or on a separate plate would have made the presentation much more appealing. Taste-wise, it was partly over-seasoned with – I think – Greek herbs, the liver was too thick and lacked sautéed onions (which are essential), but the gyros itself was okay! Grilled chicken breast with fries – I've never, ever seen a chicken breast of this size. The piece of meat covered almost the entire plate, leaving hardly any room for the side dish :-( Again, quantity over quality, and completely overpowered by the aforementioned seasoning. Almost the entire portion of fries and most of the meat from the Spiros platter were sent back – it was simply far too much, even for a hearty eater. The same goes for the breast, although we packed up the remaining meat to take home. Let's leave it. Price-wise – considering the portion sizes – there's nothing wrong with it, but – if I'm paying almost €70 for two adults and two children, each with a drink, then I'd be better off going to a restaurant where I'd certainly leave with a much less critical feeling at the end of the evening! Too bad... but another experience to add up!

I last ate there 30 years ago. The gyros pitta was just as delicious. The appetizer platter for one person is easily enough for two. I highly recommend it. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😘😊

Because of the massive mistakes made by the youth welfare office, I can't afford much for my child, as they completely ruined my finances and failed to fulfill their obligation to help my child. But when we did go out to eat in Hamburg, it was usually either pizza or food from Santorini Grill – easily accessible by S-Bahn from Friedrichsberg… We ended up traveling across the city to get there… We always enjoyed the food, whether with my daughter's friend, our visitors from Bavaria, or our visitors from the Cuxhaven district – who always treated us in exchange for free room and board in our Hamburg apartment. Everything was always excellent, always top-notch at Santorini Grill!!!!

Delicious food and large portions. None of us 4 adults could finish it.

The meat is always succulent, the salad is crisp and varied. The portions are large enough to fill you up without wasting much. Cashless payment has also been offered for some time.

Great place to sit outside and enjoy the sun. Unfortunately, the food was just terrible. The salad was drowning in sauce, and the gyros and lamb chops were completely overseasoned. It used to be better. They didn't even offer ouzo as consolation.

There seems to be a new owner here; at least none of the old staff were there. The pita gyros were very bad, you had to hunt for the tatziki, and the meat was very dry – apparently they don't buy much anymore; some of it had been grilled way too hot. It's a good thing there wasn't much meat on it, so I didn't have to throw away as much. And the friendliness still needs practice; there were no goodbyes or "thanks" or "have a nice evening." I was surprised before, though, because there were hardly any customers. The place used to be packed. I will definitely not be going to this diner again.

Yes, I would recommend the Greeks on Santorini because the people are very nice and they make a great team. The food is incredibly delicious.

We had dinner for two on a Monday. I immediately mentioned my peanut allergy and they were quick to inform us about the ingredients used. The gyros and suvlaki were excellent. The staff were kind and attentive, but the atmosphere could use a makeover, but that's enough to find a flaw. I recommend it.

You order bifteki, and the lady takes the minced meat with her bare hands and grinds it. Disgusting. Never again! The health department has already been informed.

The staff was very unfriendly. When I told the waitress that the food was too salty, she started arguing with me. She didn't bring me a new meal, but she took my money. I will never eat there again.

Wird immer teurer...wucher ist sein Lieferservice dann kostet das Gyros statt 15,50 Euro 22,50 Euro Wahnsinn...wer das noch mit macht ist selber Schuld....verbrennt die Familie das Geld oder wird hier mit Euro Scheinen geheizt? Wahnsinn...nicht mehr zu empfehlen bei den Preisen. Überragend war das Essen auch nicht aber okay

A family-run restaurant where the chef himself is on hand at the grill. The food there is delicious and the portions are generous. Bring your appetite.

A Greek restaurant - more of a snack bar - like before. Lush piles on the plate, rooms are getting pretty old. But ok. The food was pretty much like that. Strikingly intensely seasoned. Lamb should actually have been tender, it wasn't for those who wear dentures. One skewer smelled really rotten, which unfortunately the waiter didn't want to accept as a criticism. He almost seemed offended. I can't think of a reason to eat there again, it's definitely NOT the best Greek in town.

Was a frequent guest there for many years. Unfortunately, the friendliness of the staff has decreased significantly, but the prices have increased to the same extent.

Since we order food here quite often and take it with us, everything is fine! The restaurant is too noisy for me, as it's right next to a busy road. It's only bearable on Sundays.

I was eating there with my family and I noticed immediately after ordering that the owner was preparing the food! Pretty much us!! When we looked at them unfriendly, we realized that we weren't welcome and the food tasted completely burnt. Absolutely not recommended.

For me this is THE BEST Greek in Hamburg. The food is always of the highest quality and has never decreased in quality, even during the Corona period! The ambience is typically Greek and the winter garden creates a very special atmosphere. The people there are warm and very accommodating, they can almost read your wishes straight from your mouth. My wife and I have to stop by there at least once a month, or we like to take something home with us. Since the prices are really fair, I should actually give it six out of five stars. It's nice that you exist - THANK YOU

If you are searching for a great taste, ambiance and service,only up to 20 Euros. Its a perfect place.

For a small family celebration with five people, we ordered 2x the appetizer platter and 2x the Santorini platter. What can I say - one record each would have been enough. We carried eight bags of food out of the restaurant. We could probably have fed 10 people with the food. Price-performance ratio is absolutely top! The food was also very tasty, the meat was well seasoned and tender. Gladly again!

+: The “Santorini Platter for 2 People” (50 euros) is a real recommendation. The plate is so large that it is ideal for three people. If it's a little smaller, choose the Santorini platter (26 euros) for one person - I've already tried it, it was just as good, it's for 1.5 people max or you're very hungry then you might be able to do it alone. The Thomas Platter (18 euros) tasted very good and was great value for money. The pan with gyros in Metaxa cream sauce (22 euros) was very tasty. The tomato rice, the tzatziki, the souvlaki skewers, the gyros, the minced steak, the chicken breast fillet and the Metaxa gyros pan especially taste great here! Only lamb cannot always keep up with the other types of meat. Despite this, all four dishes are highly recommended!

Simple real Greek food in a rustic atmosphere. The tarama is extremely tasty! The service was very friendly. Only cash is accepted.

This is exactly how I imagine a typical restaurant in Greece. Simple, friendly service, delicious and fresh food. There is honest, rustic and authentic cuisine here. If you want to have shishi, you have to go somewhere else. In Hamburg there are enough over-the-top restaurants that focus on appearance and other nonsense.

I haven't eaten there for a long time because I always didn't think the food was good, but today my friend wanted Greek cuisine. I had calamari and my friend had a children's gyro plate. I have to say that I was quite surprised and in a positive way! Both dishes were delicious! Everything is very fresh and homemade! We'd love to come back!

Grill with a small "restaurant" for big appetites. But the portions are really big. However, the price is on the lower side. The taste is great. Anyone who comes out of here realizes that they have eaten too much again. But tasty!

Very tasty, quickly prepared food. The gyro was not too salty and warm. Rice and salad were also a decent portion. The prices are reasonable and our food was served at the same time so we could eat together. So thumbs up! Gladly again

I ate here six times in total because it's close to my place of work. In the six visits I've already been served three times so far... let's say not quite so friendly... But today I was served by a lady who couldn't be surpassed in terms of unfriendliness: no hello, very annoyed tone, doesn't listen to me even though I was overall Say what I want 3 times and then gets annoyed when I point it out to her while preparing it... just to name a few. Since the gyros are slightly above average at best, I won't be eating here again from now on. I don't expect to be served with a big grin, but at least reasonably friendly or at least neutral service isn't too much to expect. Summarized: Service: 5 Food (Gyros): 3 Prices: 2-

The selection of dishes on offer is very extensive (which I think is good). From typical Greek dishes to fish, everything is included. The ambience is okay, not great. But that's not why you go there. The food was super tasty, really great. The meat is very tasty. I also ordered a salad with turkey breast, which was also mega. Lots of meat, not like two strips, no, there was a decent portion, just right for a glutton like me. The only thing I didn't find so tasty was the coleslaw. Not my thing, although I love coleslaw. The prices are extremely reasonable. I can definitely recommend it. Plus, you'll definitely be full and if there's anything left over, just have it packed up. There were three of us there and my friends too (had gyros and chicken schnitzel, it tasted really good). I had a plate of bifteki and souflaki. It was wonderful. All in all we were very satisfied and I am a fan and will definitely visit Santorini again.

The restaurant (more of a snack bar with tables) seems to have a lot of very satisfied regular guests, but I won't be one of them. The portions are huge, but my meat tasted bland and was hardly seasoned, as was the tzatziki. The side salad seemed to come from a bulk package. I have experienced much warmer and more attentive service in other Greek restaurants. And the food here isn't cheap either. For me, the visit here was a disappointment.

Kleines Restaurant mit hervorragendem Essen. Die Portionen sind außerordentlich groß. Das Bifteki war wunderbar saftig und ordentlich gefüllt.

Angenehme Atmosphäre und leckeres Essen.

Ambiente ist für einen klassischen Imbiss okay, kann man nicht meckern! Dennoch 1 Punkt Abzug, weil Perfekt gibt es nicht. Das Personal ist freundlich und aufmerksam, alles gut. Jetzt aber zum Essen: Alter Falter!!! Wir waren zu fünft da und haben von Vorspeisen bis Nachtisch die Karte rauf und runter bestellt, weil wir echt ausgehungert waren von einer langen Wanderung im Sachsenwald, welcher übrigens bezaubernd ist! Zurück zum Essen: der Saganaki-Käse ist knusprig überbacken, fritiert schmeckt er ebenfalls sehr gut. Die Salate, gefüllten Weinbergblätter, das Fladenbrot in Knoblauchöl, die selbstgemachten Dips und Saucen - mehr geht nicht! Dazu leckeres, griechisches Bier und du denkst du bist im Olymp! Dann kamen die Hauptspeisen. Von Gyrostasche, Moussaka bis hin zum klassischen Gyrosteller blieben keine Wünsche offen. Wir bestellten unter anderen eine kleine Gyrosteller-Portion - davon wird ein Erwachsener locker satt, dass war so viel und so lecker, dass man alles aufgegessen hat obwohl wir irgendwann pappesatt waren...ich habe den Fehler übrigens gemacht und habe den großen Gyrosteller für 11 Euro bestellt,...DER HÄTTE GEFÜHLT FÜR 2 PERSONEN GEREICHT!!! Mega lecker und was für Portionen!!! Keine Ahnung wie die Inhaber solche Portionen kalkulieren aber das ist schon geil! Zum Schluss gab's noch kostenlosen griechischen Schnaps zum Abschied und die übrig gebliebenen Portionen haben wir mitnehmen können. Alles fein, cooler Laden! Sieht von außen aus wie jeder andere Imbiss aber Preis-Leistung ist für Hamburger Verhältnisse mehr als fair, wenn man bedenkt, dass man für einen veganen Hotdog oder Hamburger mit Styroporgeschmack im Schnitt 13,- Euro am Bahnhof zahlt...jedenfalls vielen Dank für alles, ich komme hier 4x im Jahr immer wieder gerne hin! Ich hoffe, dass die neuen Eigentümer das Konzept so übernehmen, der Laden scheint immer voll zu sein...ich wünsche euch, dass das so bleibt :-) Jámas !

Ach, was soll ich sagen? Der eigentliche Lieblings-Grieche hat in der Performance nachgelassen. Nun geht man zu Santorini und denkt da nicht unbedingt an ein Restaurant. Aber, dass macht den Laden aus! Quasi eine offene Küche und alles was angerichtet wird kann man direkt sehen. Die Portionen - die dürften etwas kleiner sein - sind geschmacklich ein Traum. Egal was bei uns 6 Personen auf den Tellern landete, es war alles heiß, lecker und zu viel. Sollte bei meinem nächsten Besuch es ähnlich sein, dann wird das meine neue kleine Nummer 1. Danke für diesen tollen kulinarischen Ausflug, besonders das Lamm hat es mir angetan!
