First-class Austrian restaurant with excellent service.

Wow, what an experience! We checked out the restaurant for a big celebration and enjoyed a tasting. The service was top-notch. They showed us around the whole place and went above and beyond to make our event a wonderful one, offering wine suggestions, room selection, and everything else you could possibly need. The four-course menu was divine. The best pancakes I've ever had, and I've been to Austria many times. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant if you're willing to pay accordingly for top-quality food, a wonderful ambiance, and excellent service. We paid about €140 for two four-course menus, three cocktails, a bottle of water, and a tip. I think that's reasonable.

It was a fantastic six-course experience. The taste, the presentation, and the explanations of each dish by the staff were simply outstanding and highly recommended. It's a must-do. I had the honor of performing magic between courses for a client celebrating his 70th birthday. I was also a guest at the dinner. As a magician myself, I can only say that what I ate must have been a touch of magic! It was a feast for both the eyes and the palate – entertainment of the highest caliber. Bravo!

The ambiance was top-notch. Attentive and warm service. Professional and yet friendly service. Here, you don't feel like guest number 27, but genuinely welcome. I was really looking forward to the Wiener Schnitzel (which is why there's no photo of it – I was so excited that I tucked in straight away 😅). But honestly: There's a reason everyone here is talking about it. The Wiener Schnitzel is absolutely top-notch! Pounded thin, golden brown, fried to a buttery finish, and the flavor is top-notch Austrian. And I know what I'm talking about; I've eaten some excellent schnitzels in Austria. This one is right up there with the Champions League. My personal highlight: The second helping! They politely asked if I wanted another... how could I say no? 😄 Where can you get something like that these days? Fantastic! The other courses were also excellent: – Delicious aperitif to start – Soup and appetizers fresh and aromatic – Kaiserschmarrn for dessert – a dream! Fluffy and simply perfect. You can tell: The food here is cooked with quality, craftsmanship, and passion. A tip: Be sure to make a reservation in advance, especially on weekends. We were able to spontaneously reserve something the same day on Thursday and were lucky, but the place is quite rightly in high demand. Conclusion: A true gourmet restaurant with soul. An absolute highlight here in Cologne! We've been here several times. The quality of the food, the service, and the ambiance are outstanding! The menus sometimes change or are presented in a different style. The sommelier always recommends the perfect wine. We always enjoy coming back!

The food and the service were good. But the atmosphere should be different. You are directly seeing the open kitchen. Maybe thats OK. But the smell of the inside of restaurant was horrible. The entire restaurant area smelled like dishwater. We asked if a window could be opened, but they told us the windows couldn’t be opened because they were locked. If the drinks hadn’t already arrived, we would have left, but we had to wait, eat quickly, and leave.

Austria in the heart of Cologne, and it was fantastic. A beautiful restaurant, and upon entering, you're immediately greeted, your coats are hung up, and you're seated. The restaurant was a mix of modern, upscale, and Austrian. You choose your menu from a variety of 3- to 7-course menus, with a wine pairing for each course upon request. The value for money was excellent, the food was very tasty and fresh. The staff were knowledgeable about the wines being served, and the service was very attentive and courteous. A top-notch restaurant and highly recommended.

My favorite restaurant in Cologne. Austrian cuisine with top-notch craftsmanship and flavor. Add to that a great atmosphere (the beautiful furniture is particularly noteworthy) and a service staff that isn't too numerous, but rather professional and extremely friendly. Thanks to Gruber's extremely pleasant acoustics (no high ceilings), you can have a conversation at a normal volume (without having to shout at each other - like in many other restaurants) and have a wonderful time with friends and family with great food and outstanding service. I've been there six times now, and it certainly won't be the last 🙌❤️

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you sense the pleasant atmosphere – stylish but not stuffy, designed with great attention to detail. I would especially like to highlight the service staff: The waiters were extremely friendly, attentive, and yet always highly professional. We planned the surprise menu in advance, combined with a very special wine tasting – and it was simply fantastic. Each course was perfectly composed, subtly presented, and a delight to the palate. The sommelier accompanied the dishes with an impressive selection of wines, whose diversity, harmony, and also deliberate diversity delighted us all. His expertise and enthusiasm made the evening an experience for all the senses. The service also deserves special praise: attentive, warm, and yet always professional. At Gruber's, you feel not just like a guest, but as a truly welcome visitor. Conclusion: For me, Gruber's is a culinary institution in Cologne. Whether for a spontaneous dinner or a special occasion, everything is just right here: the cuisine, service, atmosphere, and wine selection. Yes, if you enjoy fine dining, you're in good hands here. The food was of high quality and beautifully presented. The only thing that could be improved is the staffing during the meal. Following the motto "too many cooks spoil the broth," too many people served us, which created a feeling of confusion; it was impossible to establish a connection, even though everyone was very friendly, courteous, and competent. For example, it should have been consistently noticed when drinks were empty and asked for refills. Or, contrary to a previous suggestion by a staff member to serve the guest's fourth appetizer, it was brought before the main course, which resulted in a long wait for the others. The time between the individual courses was very long for me personally. We started at 6:30 and finished by 11:00. The evening overall was very nice.

A very nice restaurant in a very quiet downtown location. A beautiful establishment, stylishly furnished, and lovingly run. The staff is very friendly and makes every effort to serve guests well. The food was excellent across all courses and side dishes. Even the side dishes, such as the bread and butter, deserve a special mention. I'd like to close by wishing I could try a Viennese roast beef with onions here sometime soon. Admittedly, it's not currently on the menu, but it would be a dream come true.

A finely balanced, traditional menu in a tasteful setting with very attentive service. The bread basket with crispbread and dips, as well as the creative and very tasty variations of the fried chicken, are particularly noteworthy. The same goes for the excellent Wiener Schnitzel with its accompanying side dishes. It's particularly noteworthy that another schnitzel was offered. Only the Kaiserschmarrn didn't meet our expectations. It was obviously not cooked in the pan as usual and hadn't been torn into pieces. It was also too sweet and lacked the familiar contrast with the apple and plum compote. Combined with the delicious aperitif, sparkling wine, and the wine recommendation to accompany the menu, it was a very successful evening.

We were there several times and were once again very satisfied. The food was excellent again, and there was another little surprise from the kitchen. I think the photos speak for themselves.

The food was fantastic, the service outstanding, and the ambiance lovely as well. There was still room on the lovely terrace, but it was too warm for my companion. Luckily, it's also very nice inside. If one Wiener Schnitzel hadn't been enough for us, we could have had a second one at no extra charge. The thinnest and thickest schnitzel of my life! I don't know how they do it, but the meat was as thin as a pizza base from Naples. And yet, the schnitzel turned out as fluffy and thick as a really good calzone! Super crispy on the outside, airy and tender on the inside, an absolute hit in terms of flavor. That wasn't just a schnitzel, it was an experience. Top-notch service, cozy atmosphere – I'll be back. If only for that schnitzel magic. 😄👌

A culinary experience in a class of its own As soon as we entered the restaurant it was clear that we were in for a special evening. The atmosphere was elegant and inviting – just the right ambience for an upscale Austrian restaurant. The food was simply fantastic and not only met my already high expectations, but far exceeded them. Traditional Austrian cuisine was interpreted here at the highest level: classics such as Wiener Schnitzel and Tafelspitz were masterfully prepared - perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. However, I was particularly impressed by the fish dishes, which were a wonderful addition to the menu. Tastefully balanced, creatively combined and visually a real work of art on the plate - a true feast for all the senses. The quality of the ingredients was outstanding and each dish demonstrated great craftsmanship and passion. The attentive but never intrusive service also rounded off the overall experience perfectly. The service was very friendly and accommodating when we arrived and you could see that great value was placed on this in the restaurant. However, it decreased significantly over the course of the evening. At the beginning the breaks between the courses were good, but dessert took a long time to arrive. After the meal we were asked if we wanted coffee and ordered some. He didn't come anymore, it was now around 10:30 p.m., but there were still many guests there. We ordered the bill, which came quickly and paid. At home we noticed that the coffee was on it. No waiter said goodbye to us as we left, and our coats were no longer handed out. Conclusion: very nice restaurant, great food, but the service should still maintain the initial standard towards the end; After all, you invest p.p. 120€ or more.

The best schnitzel I've ever eaten. We were there today around 2 p.m. and it was very tasty. However, the blonde and slightly older waitress wasn't quite as charming. I don't know what it was, I hope it wasn't because of the hair color. But I will definitely test it again. You can't find a schnitzel like this everywhere.

Unfortunately, I was so excited that I forgot to take photos. The food was to die for. The wines are mega. The atmosphere is very nice and you immediately feel at home. The staff friendly, attentive and accommodating. I look forward to the next visit. The prices are a bit high, but worth every cent!

A top address for enjoying fine Austrian cuisine. The restaurant is well located and elegantly and comfortably furnished. Parking is a bit difficult. There are plenty of free street parking spaces, but they all fill up quickly. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Not in an "upscale" way, but human, approachable, and pleasant. Our service was excellent, and the employee/intern Max was also very accommodating and enthusiastic. Our dog was very welcome. Thank you very much.

We ate at Gruber's again yesterday. We have actually been very impressed with the ambience, service and food so far. Yesterday, however, we were “outsourced” to new rooms. The feeling of well-being there was significantly limited. In addition, the quality of the food was also not as usual. At these prices you can actually expect perfect service, excellent food and a nice ambience. Unfortunately, this was not the case. We will probably have to look for another location in the future. Too bad.

Your attentive but unobtrusive service made our visit even more pleasant. The rest of the staff was polite but less present. What was particularly positive was that the head of the house took the time to greet each guest personally - a gesture that is no longer a given in today's gastronomy. The farewell was also very warm and left an overall positive impression. At the end we enjoyed a cappuccino that was not only visually appealing, but also tasted impressive - full-bodied, aromatic and with a nice finish. The prices for lunch were absolutely fair, and the drinks were even pleasantly cheap. Although the restaurant is conveniently located, parking in the area is a real challenge. Overall, a wonderful restaurant with a stylish ambience, good food and service that is characterized by genuine warmth. If the schnitzel were a little thicker and the side dishes were portioned a little more generously, it would be perfect for us. We were very happy to get to know this restaurant and will definitely come back.

I was there for lunch. I heard about the legendary Wiener Schnitzel online. The waitress was super friendly and gave us good advice. The schnitzel was really incredibly tasty. The best thing I've eaten so far. When we had finished eating we were asked if we wanted another schnitzel, which was included in the price. That was super nice and a great sustainability concept. Unfortunately, the schnitzel is only available individually as we had it for lunch during the week, which is a bit of a shame. It would be nicer if you could also get it in the evening because the menus don't appeal to me that much.
