Monday is schnitzel day, large portion, super tasty. Service very nice and also funny. Cozy German restaurant, which is unfortunately becoming increasingly rare. We'd love to come back

We had booked a table for 10 people and the chef cooked extra pork knuckle for some of us. The food was very tasty and a lot. We were also served very nicely. We will definitely come back and can only recommend the restaurant.

Wiener Schnitzel excellent. The only thing I personally don't like is when the schnitzel is on top of the potato salad. But otherwise it's very tasty. Service courteous and very nice. However, if you have special requests, e.g. potatoes instead of dumpling, you have to ask first. Even when eating traditional goose, you don't have the choice between breast or leg. Personally, I think that's a shame. Otherwise, good home cooking, very nicely prepared.

Schnitzel Monday in the Penny Cellar, not enough schnitzel but the schnitzel will fill you up! Went to dinner at the Groscheneller today and it was really tasty! There was only schnitzel, which is OK on Schnitzel Monday! The food comes to the table quickly and fresh and, more importantly, it tastes delicious and there are good portions to fill you up. The waitresses are nice and friendly and also try to fulfill special requests! But you should definitely make a reservation (especially on Monday) because it's really difficult to be lucky..... It won't be the last time I've been there because it was simply delicious!!!!

We were lucky and got a table without a reservation. As before, it was very tasty, especially the liver dumpling soup. Here you feel comfortable according to the motto: "Feed like your mother."

I can only recommend the Groschen Keller. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service. The kitchen offers home cooking in the best sense and regular seasonal promotions. For Oktoberfest I had the knuckle with sauerkraut and fried potatoes. The sauerkraut was delicious and finally a knuckle with a crust. I'll definitely come back.

Came on recommendation. Had a reservation, it worked out well. Monday is schnitzel day, there is only schnitzel. They could have told us when we handed over the entire menu. The service didn't explain anything and overall they weren't very attentive - they felt totally stressed. Forgot to reorder drinks, it was on the house - great, but one more star. Schnitzel was better than expected. We ended up disappointed

What a great authentic restaurant. Classic home cooking prepared very tasty at a fair price. No fancy stuff, just simply perfect. You should be hungry. The portions are plentiful and of very good quality. It's worth driving through half the city. The two ladies from the service are absolute class. They are funny and you can tell that they enjoy their job. Unfortunately, it's rare. Definitely not the last time there.

Great place with great food and an interesting history

I'm from Düsseldorf and wanted to go to the Groschenkeller today and had personally reserved a table outside yesterday. Arrived at the appropriate time today and suddenly it was said that we would be late and that we could only sit inside in the stuffy interior or not at all. I have never experienced such poor service and treatment of customers. Didn't even suggest a solution except indoors. You may no longer need it!

We had a great dinner, very courteous service, delicious food and sat very comfortably on the terrace Update August 19, 2024 Despite a reservation for three people made the day before (table on the terrace), we were more or less turned away and directed to a table inside!!! Very disappointing, especially a shame for my friends' long journey!!!

We are Bärliners and live on the Lauenburg Lake District. Opposite is the Groschenkeller. Despite good competitors nearby, the restaurant is the best in the neighborhood for my magic mouse and me. Since no one is perfect, I would like a bitter beer wish.To the team: Keep it up!!!

Eat like your mother eats. Finally a restaurant with predominantly local cuisine. The price-performance ratio is right. Very nice waitresses.

Very nicely decorated restaurant and great food. Only the service left a lot to be desired on several occasions: once we waited about an hour for the schnitzel, even though the shop wasn't full. When we politely inquired about it, we were dismissed with a "yes, yes." Another time in December, at lunchtime, I asked if I could order a goose to pick up in the evening, depending on the time of business. Unfortunately it was impossible. If my money isn't wanted there, then I'd be happy to go somewhere else...

Classic Berlin dishes with a creative twist. It was very tasty and the portions were filling. The price, like everywhere else today, is a little more than a dime.

That was really tasty, luckily I ended up here hungry. Actually, I just wanted to fill myself up, but then I was surprised with some really great dishes. There are many delicious dishes on the menu, there should be something for everyone. Apparently everything is freshly prepared - and very good and tasty. A great choice at very reasonable prices and with very nice and attentive service. Glad I was here.

A very cosy old Berlin place in a green area. Atmosphere top. We went there because of all the good reviews and I have to say in advance that the food was also very good. The service though was very very very slow. Not sure what went wrong on the day of our visit, but we were waiting for 1 hour for our appetizers. And the another on hour after we finished eating to someone come and take away our plates and so we can pay. We wanted to order dessert, but after one hour waiting without anyone even checking on the guests ( we were on terrace and there were other guests also) it was already too much, and we decided to just pay and leave. Food was very good and I will give it another try. We also received and apology and even a free beer for the waiting of an appetizer, but it is really not clear to me why then again to let us wait for sooooo long after meal. Because of all the good reviews I would give this place another chance later, but so far service really brought down the impression

We are here for the first time today and are positively surprised, delicious food, nice service at reasonable prices. Mustard schnitzel and cheese spaetzle are recommended. Definitely coming back!

I have known this great Steglitz restaurant since the 70s! Bus stop in front of the door, U+S train not far! Nice, attentive, friendly service quickly serves delicious ordered food!! Digestive walk possible in the park with a small lake next door. You sit outside or inside, but then stairs hinder people with walking difficulties and wheelchair users!! The guest downstairs is compensated by the great furnishings!! It wasn't the last time we were there!!!

100s of schnitzels make their way to the penny cellar every Monday to be laid out on a bed of fried potatoes, wreathed with a colorful bouquet and dressed in golden yellow, and sent to schnitzel heaven by Straffi. What a beautiful death for a schnitzel. Dignified and a paradise for the Carnebale community. There's no better way to end a schnitzel. The only sadness you feel here is the sadness that not every day is a Monday.

The service was very careful and friendly. I find the portions a bit sparse. The beetroot as a side dish tasted like nothing. The sauce from the Angus steak was sour and cold. Given the prices, I didn't think it was appropriate that you had to pay for the packaging to take away and pack it yourself

Come in, you'll be served well and the food is a blast! Thank you that in this day and age with new food with all sorts of nonsense, there is still the Groschen Keller with old German cuisine. It is so delicious! The ambience is perfect, the servers/owners who work there are great and the waiter fits in like a glove. Enough Berliners, if you want to eat good, hearty German cuisine, you have to go to the Groschen Keller 👌

There is also an “Alt Berliner Restaurant” with traditional cuisine. Very nice atmosphere, good cuisine, very nice good service! The boulette was homemade and was excellent. The fried potatoes were ok, there's still room for improvement with the Kaiserschmarrn - but it's not a typical Berlin dish either.

After a long day with an almost empty stomach, I spontaneously stopped here with my husband. Have another delicious meal today and go to surgery tomorrow. It's quaintly cozy. Fast and friendly service, as well as large, delicious portions 👌. The trip or excursion from Leipzig to Steglitz was worth it!!!!👌 Your Niederstraßer family

Tip Top, you really can't go wrong with schnitzel. The salad next to it was fresh and delicious and opinions always differ when it comes to potato salad. I thought it was very tasty and would make it exactly the same way. Some people might like a little more cucumber. The innkeeper, another gentleman from Berlin. Unfortunately, you don't come across this type of scent very often anymore. I felt really good there and I'll go there again. Have a good meal

A quaint old Berlin restaurant with delicious, classic regional dishes at fair prices and decent portions. Service staff are warm and friendly with a friendly smile. Small cozy outdoor terrace. Restaurant in the basement. Difficult access for wheelchair users as there are steps. Lighting a bit cool. We love being there!

Great restaurant, super nice service, the staff there is exceptionally friendly and the service is very good. From the outside it makes a rustic impression, but from the inside it is very lovingly designed. I only went there because a friend recommended it to me, I like to eat here. I wasn't disappointed. I can only highly recommend the schnitzel (especially the mustard schnitzel) in all variations and you should definitely try it. I definitely prefer this restaurant to the Vienna Woods. In terms of price, this restaurant is great, the menu is balanced, not too little, not too much, the in-house chef does his job with love and very professionally. That's how it should be.

Basically, this restaurant has its own original Berlin charm. However, in today's service-oriented times it is difficult if the waiter doesn't think it's necessary to write down the order and then the wrong food comes to the table. Something like that can always happen, but not even receiving an apology from the service staff is an outrage. This is simply the excuse that someone else's mistake happened. Then blaming others or not even behaving in a collegial manner will completely ruin your stay, so it will probably just be a one-off attempt.

We were in the restaurant with 6 people. Very nice service. We had ordered different dishes. The dishes arrived at the table at the same time. Every dish was very good. If you want to eat German cuisine, you should stop by here.

5 stars with conviction! It was my first time at the Penny Cellar and I will definitely come back. We were a large group and everyone was very happy with the food. The service was very personable, attentive and always present. The menu isn't too extensive, but it offered something for every taste. I would describe the portions as generous; you can't get that on every corner anymore. You also don't find that atmosphere very often anymore. I think there is a good team working here who know exactly what they are doing. Price & performance & quality are absolutely the same for me. Thanks for a great meal!

Gute Hausmannskost, netter Service.Ambiente definitiv mal was anderes. Wir haben uns hier wohl gefühlt. Da das Restaurant im Souterrain liegt muss man um rein zu kommen eine Treppe hinab gehen. Für gehbeeinträchtigte Menschen nicht ganz einfach.

Waren heute das erste Mal hier und sehr,sehr zufrieden, zu empfehlen, Platzresevierung auf jedenfall machen, sehr guter,schneller,Service, Speisen lecker und optisch sehr gut, werden wiederkommen.

Einer der wenigen noch erhaltenen altberliner Eckkneipen. Gutes Essen und gemütliche Atmosphäre. Das Personsl ist locker und immer zu einem Spaß aufgelegt. Montags ist dort Schnitzeltag, d.h. es gibt Schnitzel in allen Variationen aber nichts anderes.

Wie schon so viele Rezensionsschreiber vor mir, schließe ich mich der positiven und eindrucksvollen Bewertungen an. Urig, alt Berliner Restaurantkneipe, mit richtig gutem aufmerksamen sympathischem Bewirtungsteam. Wir waren zur Weihnachtsfeier mit 13 Leuten vor Ort und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Wir mussten nie lange auf etwas warten, sei es auf Getränke oder das Essen.Eine glatte Meisterleistung und weiterer Pluspunkt, 13 unterschiedliche Essensbestellungen standen gleichzeitig auf dem Tisch. Die Größe der Portionen nicht schaffbar, aber sehr lecker. Auch die Preise in der heutigen Teuerungsmaschinerie absolut angemessen. Danke für einen unvergesslichen schönen Abend. Macht weiter so. Ich werde euch auf jeden Fall weiter empfehlen.
