Green Papaya in Hamburg

Was very tasty sushi (8 pcs per portion) and good red curry with duck. We will come back again. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the sushi wasn't fresh. The seaweed leaves clearly indicate that it's been sitting for a while! It was rubbery and tough as leather. A complaint was accepted, but to no avail! No sushi next time!

I was here with my best friend for lunch and can only report good things! We had the homemade lemonades, which were super delicious and refreshing, and I had the Shake Don, which had a really nice barbecue flavor. The food was super delicious and served quickly, which is a huge plus for a short lunch break! The waitress was an absolutely lovely and friendly lady who took excellent care of us. You have to accept that there's an intersection in front of the restaurant, where you can occasionally hear the occasional car horn – but that didn't bother us at all. We'll definitely be back in the future :-)

The tuna steak and corn-on-the-cob chicken were delicious and well-prepared. The salad and sushi side dishes were fresh and plentiful. No one will go hungry here, and the menu offers a good selection of dishes. This restaurant is worth a visit.

The food was excellent, as was the service. I just found it outrageous that they expected a tip when paying, leaving no other choice.

Disastrous service. I ordered chicken soup and got it with shrimp. The waitress refused to take the soup back and was extremely rude and unfriendly. After she offered me half the price, which she felt was a let-down, and asked my friend to eat the soup (she's vegan), I got up and left the place. I won't be coming back here!

We had a great lunch last weekend. The weather was perfect, and we were thinking about what to eat. While we were walking across the road, we found a restaurant. We thought it was a good choice — everything was great, and the servers were so kind. Unfortunately, the tropical fruit juice she recommended didn’t meet our expectations.

Great food, lovely atmosphere, and friendly service... What more could you want? I've always been to Green Papaya in Ottensen, but this one on Stephansplatz is at least as good. The best Vietnamese restaurants in Hamburg (although I haven't tried all of them, so :)) that I know of!

Nice ambience, delicious food, very friendly staff, but I'm taking off a star for the sanitary facilities. The towel dispenser wasn't refilled, the soap dispenser didn't work. At least there was another soap dispenser available. A partition between the urinal and sink, half-ripped out, over the mirrorless cable. And that's only in the men's restroom. In the women's restroom too, there's an empty towel dispenser and the soap dispenser, empty with another soap dispenser next to it. And then you come out of the restrooms and walk past the kitchen and see heaps of used dishes with food leftovers at the hatch. That was at lunchtime when the place wasn't even that full. Two guests inside, two guests outside. Unfortunately, this unnecessarily worsens the overall impression.

We love it here at GreenPapaya. Whenever we're in Hamburg, we stop here. The service is great and the food is simply delicious!

Die Bedienung war freundlich u aufmerksam... Als Vorspeise hatte ich vietnamesische Frühlingsrollen bestellt... ...die Füllung sehr grob u geschmacklich flach. Teriyaki Chicken mit Gemüse ... ohne Worte! 2 grob geschnittene Hähnchenfilets ... die Soße u das Gemüse darunter, leider nichts was in Erinnerung bleiben würde. Natürlich kommt Teriyaki nicht aus der vietnamesischen Küche , jedoch ist es sehr schmackhaft. Theoretisch ….. Ich habe nicht aufgegessen und habe 2/3 zurückgehen lassen. Auf Nachfrage kam die. Erklärung (außer:"... das ist ja auch kein Vietnam Küche s„.... Aha) Keine Entschuldigung nichts... Ich werde leider nicht wiederkommen ( die Bewertung im Internet mit 4.1 kann ich nicht im Ansatz nachvollziehen)

Nice and large portions. Unfortunately they have increased the price significantly (~€15 per lunch) and additionally it is not possible to use Pluxee, Sodexo etc in combination with paying by card. Unfortunately, this will mean that my colleagues and I will not be coming back after all these years.

The mixed salad, according to the dinner menu, contained "mango, avocado, cucumber, bell peppers, tomatoes, red onions, cilantro, cream cheese, corn, cress, peanuts, chia seeds." In reality, it contained no mango, avocado, cucumber, bell peppers, red onions, cream cheese, peanuts, or chia seeds. In other words: eight (8) of the promised ingredients were missing! The restaurant offered neither a guilty conscience nor an apology. Unfortunately, I have to give this at least one star, but zero stars would be more than appropriate! This is simply a rip-off and a fraud!

Everything was great, prices a bit high. Don't look at the ceiling when you're on the toilet. Fresenius would be delighted...

The food is only tasty until you're stuck to the floor on your way to the bathroom. On the toilet (at toddler height), you look up at the ceiling and discover cobwebs as thick as your thumb, and then, after washing your hands, you have to use the unhygienic fan because there's no paper available. It makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like... I'd want to check these things before ordering on my next visit, otherwise I'd rather leave.

The service seems very rushed. As soon as you come in, everyone says “Hello, how many people” in one breath. Price performance is no longer right. The quality has decreased significantly.

Exceptionally good restaurant. The drinks are really freshly prepared and very fruity. Great coconut soup compared to other restaurants. The main courses were also great. In particular, the salmon with tempura sushi was something different than just duck with vegetables. Very nice open kitchen, everything in perfect order. I liked the transparency.

Very delicious food! You can’t go wrong with any dish. Been there 2 times now and everyone that went always only had positive things to say! Sometimes takes the service personal some time to notice you but they’re very nice and attentive otherwise! Definitely a good choice!

The food was delicious, super tasty tender meat. The platen mix appetizers were well done. Despite the delicious meat, the track noodles were rubbery and you couldn't chew them, just swallow them. When I asked, I got new ones and the same thing again and they tried to make it clear to me that it was normal, that the glass noodles were always like that, outrageous. You could order the mix platter for 2 people or more, there were 3 of us, the platter was made for 4 people and was charged accordingly with the justification that it says on the menu for 2 people or more, I don't know if you can't count up to 3.

We had our eye on the Green Papaya at Stephansplatz for some time. We were greeted by a very nice and attentive waiter. This continued throughout the evening. At this point, big praise to him! Nevertheless, we were initially shocked by the prices when we opened the menu. These were definitely not the average prices. We had duck and sushi. As sushi lovers we had to try the sushi here and unfortunately I have to say. Very disappointing... personally at the bottom of my sushi ranking list and also moderately priced. Nevertheless, the duck saved everything. If I may say so humbly, it was one of the best I've had so far. Overall 5 stars. Unfortunately only ate 3 because the sushi was so disappointing.

Mit einem Freund zusammen sind wir hier eher zufällig gelandet. Ein kleines gemütliches vietnamesisches Restaurant . Ich bestellte Chicken Teriyki, war sehr lecker und reichlich war. Der Preis von 22.-€ ist selbstbewusst,liegt sehr wahrscheinlich am Standort in der Nähe der Staatsoper. Hier kann man für typische vietnamesische Küche gut essen gehen, aber es ist halt eher hochpreisig. In der Straße gegen über , gibt es ein Parkhaus, aber auch hier sind die Gebühren gesalzen.

You have to be there at the right time, because the restaurant is very close to the opera, and many people probably want to eat something shortly before the performance starts. The place is quite small and cramped, but the food is good (but nothing special, the menu is similar to many others), the portions are very large. The waitresses are very nice. However, vegans should be prepared for the fact that there is not much on offer for them. I would definitely go again if I'm nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip either.

Amazing crunchy tofu! Definitely a recommendation!

The spring rolls were ready-made spring rolls and not homemade. The filling was also something compressed. Ordered fried noodles with vegetables for the child. But cooked flat rice noodles with vegetables came. I had an udon noodle menu and I also received flat rice noodles. When I told the waitress that my menu had arrived with the wrong noodles, the waitress said that she will bring me undon noodles again. But then nothing came of it. I think the boss brought the bill. I also told him that my menu arrived with the wrong pasta. But she was of the opinion that it was undon noodles. I thought it was really bold not to believe the customer. I told her that the other waitress had seen it and she even offered to bring me some undon noodles again and nothing came. But she didn't go into it at all and just told us the amount of the bill. It's possible that something is received the wrong way, but I didn't think it was right to be accommodating or not apologizing for it twice and not being a bit accommodating. We won't go there again.

A successful expansion of Green Papaya brand in Hamburg. We are loyal customers of Altona's restaurant, but decided to try out the place in the center this time. It is conveniently close to Opera and Laeiszhalle. No worries - food is delicious and the staff is really friendly. I personally recommend the #756 with beef over sushi.

Had been craving for some Vietnamese food for ages as my fav Resturant in US got closed :-( and this place did not disappoint at all.. amazing food, simply too good. Had both tofu based dishes and some veg sushi as starter and we cleaned up the bowls :-)…. They do use fish sauce but if you tell them then they will replace it with vegan option as well so NO fishy smell in the food I am sure there are other good Vietnamese resturant nearby but the service here was great and food was great .. drinks were okish and yes they don’t have a toilet 😁

We have visited this restaurant quite often for two years. But recently the service and quality of the food have noticeably deteriorated. We have changed the good review we left a year ago to the current one. It's a shame, but most likely we won't visit this restaurant again.

We were in Hamburg on a day trip and were looking for a good restaurant. We found this! There is a lot of choice in the menu and the food was delicious! Perfect texture and taste! All the staff in the restaurant were friendly and accommodating.

I used to come to this restaurant once in a while. But I will not be coming back after yesterday. Food was ok but their older waiter is horrible. I asked to sit outside he said no (it was warm enough). Brought me the food, I was hungry ate quickly, he started making faces at that. But then the forced tip experience came (and my dish was already super expensive). He keyed the amount at me and waved the machine. I hated the rude service so I said no. He refused to accept it. I still said no. I will NOT be guilted into paying a tip for service I disliked. He reluctantly accepted, making a show and making me feel bad. I will not come again. EDITED AFTER REPLY: all my comments are mine. my experience, not "inspired" by others, and that again is hilariously rude. Your service is rude, dear restaurant. I used to like the food but learn to treat your customers with respect.

Surprisingly good Bun Chay. The tofu was cooked perfectly and the sauce was fantastic. The place was totally empty so I was a bit skeptical, but it really only benefited my experience because I was served instantly. Not sure about the other negative comments regarding service. Wasn’t my experience at all. Would 100% go back.

The food was simply amazing, but the waitress was horrible! I went here with 6 of my friends, and had a HUGE tipping debacle! They must've thought we were American, because the waitress basically DEMANDED a tip, begged to "help out the kitchen" and wouldn't let you pay for a good 3 minutes if you refused the tip! Again, food is amazing, and the presentation is over this world, but we're in EUROPE! Tipping ISN'T mandatory here!!

Restaurant is situated at a busy street so the atmosphere was quite noisy. Staff seemed a bit overworked and stressed but kept friendly despite us having some language barriers. The food was amazing. I had a red tofu curry there. Not as spicy as you might first imagine, but packed with flavour. The tofu is nice and crispy on the outside and dense and soft on the inside. 100% recommend this place for some of the curries they serve!

Food was good, ambient is nice. Lady that served us was a bit strange. My friend was really surpriced the way she was pushed to give tip...

We had dinner at Green Papaya last Saturday evening. Since we had already been to the restaurant in Eimsbüttel, we wanted to try the restaurant directly in the city. The starters such as the summer rolls were very tasty and fresh with the dips. The coconut soup was also wonderful! For the main course we had dishes with chicken, duck, salmon and tofu. Here too, all the dishes were very tasty and exactly what you would expect from an Asian restaurant. We had a nice evening as we were able to sit outside in the pleasant temperatures. Since the restaurant is right on the street it was a bit noisy, but that's to be expected when a restaurant is right in town! We would love to come back

The food was really tasty and served quickly. There was a lot going on on Saturday evening, which made it a bit hectic, but the staff remained friendly. All in all a good restaurant that I can recommend.

Generally a nice place with good food. Close to the CCH and not too expensive. BUT: It is extremely difficult to understand the staff (very broken English and German) and they are very pushy about tips. If you don't want to Tipp "enough" they just ask you again and again.

Best Duck Teriyaki I've ever had

We were there on a Wednesday afternoon without a reservation. It was well attended, but not full. The menu doesn't hold any surprises, but you'll find something to suit every taste. We chose the papaya salad and the summer rolls and were absolutely satisfied. Gerdae the summer rolls were really tasty and the dips were deliciously spicy/delicious. Considering it wasn't really full, everything took a little long - but maybe it only seemed that way because we wanted to go to the cinema.

I had placed my order using the numbers on the card. Unfortunately, instead of the 713 (avocado salmon), I was brought the 714 (tuna cucumber). Since I don't really like tuna, I said something to the waitress. She told me off quite unkindly that I ordered it wrong. She didn't respond to me at all and just left me there. Even when my companions asked her about it again while clearing away the food, she simply said unkindly that I had ordered it wrong. Misunderstandings can happen, no question about it, but the way I dealt with it simply disappointed me.

Absolut frische Speisen. Sehr geschmackvoll. Toller, freundlicher Service. Leider hatte das Team unsere Online-Reservierung aufgrund einer technischen Fehlschaltung nicht bemerkt. Das freundliche Service-Team hat sich dennoch sehr um uns bemüht, so dass wir einen Tisch bekamen und köstlich gegessen haben. Dankeschön für die perfekte Gastfreundschaft!
