Goldener Ochse in Schwäbisch Hall – a strong start with the appetizer, a disappointing main course I spontaneously visited the Goldener Ochse yesterday because I was interested in the rump steak with Café de Paris butter. Without a reservation, I received a friendly welcome and was seated on the terrace. The service was extremely polite, attentive, and seemed very well-trained. The restaurant made a clean, well-maintained impression. While the terrace itself was nicely decorated, the view of a less than attractive side street in Schwäbisch Hall somewhat spoiled the ambiance. For my starter, I chose a vichyssoise – a cold, pureed leek and potato soup. It was served with a piece of baguette toasted in butter. The soup was excellently seasoned, refreshing, and truly delicious. I could have easily eaten several more portions of it alone. The main course – the rump steak with Café de Paris butter and Belgian fries – was noticeably less than satisfying. Although I ordered the steak "English," it was served thoroughly cooked the first time. The server reacted professionally, took it back without discussion, and quickly brought me a new one. The second steak, while pink in the middle, was again significantly overcooked on the outside – disappointing for a dish in this price range. The Belgian fries, on the other hand, were homemade and very well done: crispy, with a good bite, and an intense potato flavor. The Café de Paris butter, on the other hand, seemed like a simple herb butter and didn't really impress me. Additionally, the plate was cold, causing the meat to cool quickly. Conclusion: The appetizer was a real highlight – sophisticated, well-seasoned, and creative. Unfortunately, the main course couldn't keep up. Despite the strong service and the good side dishes, the overall value for money isn't right for me. For the price, I expect more craftsmanship for such a classic dish – especially when the menu is deliberately minimalist. So, unfortunately, it remains a very mixed experience for me, which I would have liked to rate more positively under other circumstances.

German cuisine truly shines here. The chef comes to the table and greets his guests personally. The entire staff is very friendly and accommodating. Thank you very much for the pleasant atmosphere and the delicious lunch.

The salad plate with turkey strips was very small. Just leaf lettuce on a rather small plate. And a small piece of turkey schnitzel.

We were at the Golden Ox for lunch today. We were wonderfully pampered and enjoyed the best pork cheeks ever with polenta, preceded by a wonderful fish tartare and fennel salad! Wine and cremant... French and 🥰 We'll be back, no question 👍

Absolute recommendation: wild boar curry sausage with Belgian fries. Delicious. But everything else is really tasty. Has become our favorite place in the area.

You don't expect huge portions, but three tiny pieces of pork cheeks on lukewarm polenta for around €37 is a disgrace. Furthermore, the vegetables that came with it were burnt! After reporting this to the waitress and forwarding it to the kitchen, there was no response whatsoever!!! Never again!

Wild Boar Currywurst with Fries I don't even know where to begin—this meal simply overwhelmed me. The wild boar currywurst was a revelation: spicy, juicy, with a subtle gamey note that blended perfectly with the homemade, fruity-spicy curry sauce. But the true highlight of this dish were the fries—and I don't say that lightly. These fries weren't just good, they were an experience. Never in my life have I tasted such perfect fries. Each one was a work of art: golden yellow on the outside, with a flawless crispness that emitted a gentle, heavenly crackle with every bite. Inside, a core of incredible tenderness awaited, almost like fluffy clouds of potato that dissolved on the tongue. The taste? Simply beyond words. A touch of sea salt enhanced the natural sweetness of the potatoes without overpowering them—a perfect balance that can only be achieved by a master chef. It was as if the essence of the perfect fries had been extracted from a dream and conjured onto my plate. Even the best fries experiences from my past pale in comparison to these divine potato sticks. Add to that the melting curry sauce that coated the tips like a golden coat—I could barely hold back the tears of joy. I would love to sing about these fries in poetry, immortalize them in monuments, and invite them into my dreams. To anyone who thinks they've ever had good fries: You have no idea what you're missing. These fries set a new standard. Bravo!

We held our Christmas party at the Goldener Ochsen in Schwäbisch Hall and were absolutely thrilled! The atmosphere was festive and inviting, and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The delicious food deserves special mention – every dish was lovingly prepared, perfectly balanced, and a true feast for the palate. The organization also ran smoothly, and our individual requests were easily accommodated. A huge thank you to the entire team for this unforgettable evening! We will definitely be back and highly recommend the restaurant.

A stylish and cozy atmosphere that immediately invites you to linger. The dishes are freshly prepared, refined with special herbs and taste excellent. The wine selection is very good and high quality. The staff is warm and attentive. We'll be back.

Here at the Golden Ochsen, hospitality can finally be experienced again after the start under new and proven management and successful culinary skills. Anyone who wants to and gets involved comes as a guest and leaves as a friend. Our first visit was a complete success and will be followed by others. Goethe's palate stands for quality in the kitchen. Even the salad was lovingly made down to the last detail. Both redfish with pearl barley risotto and autumnal pumpkin bulgur with feta and beetroot left nothing to be desired. Rounded off with a mousse au chocolate, the meal was perfect. The wine list unmistakably bears the signature of a well-known local sommelier, which speaks for itself. In addition, we were able to meet the boss and mastermind behind the concept in person and not only received first-hand service, but also learned the background and were able to give our feedback directly. A new and brightly shining star in the city's gastronomic firmament, which delights us and will definitely provide further great moments in the cozy atmosphere.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Golden Ochsen as a couple. Reservation was possible via Insta without any problems. The menu has something for every taste, fish, meat but also vegetarian. Both for starters and desserts. Bean salad, homemade foccacia as well as the rump steak and the fried bulgur with pumpkin, beetroot and cheese were very tasty! We are happy that Schwäbisch Hall has a new restaurant and will definitely come back!
