The staff is very friendly and service is quick. Portions are large, but unfortunately, much of the food is deep-fried, which isn't to everyone's taste. There's no real ambiance around the terrace.

Good German food at reasonable prices

There were two of us, and we were delighted with the food and the portion size. It's recommended to call ahead to make a reservation.

A wonderful, long-established restaurant steeped in tradition! The regional products are of excellent quality, and the food tastes authentic and down-to-earth. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service make every visit special. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates good, local cuisine. The prices are also more than fair. The only things we didn't particularly like were the vegetarian Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli) and the fries, which were a bit too salty, but that's probably a matter of taste! A little background music would also be a nice addition.

I like the restaurant and often come here with my family for dinner. It's one of the few restaurants in Heidenheim where you can still enjoy good Swabian food. Plus, a lot of the food is homemade – that's a rarity these days! Kudos! There's a wide selection of dishes and large portions, so you'll definitely be full. Friendly service. You should make a reservation on weekends, as it gets quite busy. Great! Always happy to come back!

Today wasn't my first time there, so you can consider my opinion solid. It's always been very good. Traditional fare, as they say. Artisan and freshly prepared. The price-performance ratio is well-balanced. The dishes are presented on beautiful plates. The fries are super delicious. Fine-cut, crisp, and juicy. The beer comes from two of Munich's six leading breweries: Augustiner and Hacker-Pschorr. 😉 The service is friendly and always nearby. Pictured here is a warm snack: fried Leberkäse (meatloaf) with a fried egg, fried onions, and fries. A generous portion!

Rump steak was too cold, but OK, hash browns and vegetables were good. After we commented that it was too cold, we were offered an espresso, which my husband accepted. Our daughter asked for a biscuit. We were charged the normal price for the espresso, and even the biscuit was €1. Incredibly greedy! Never again! Absolutely not recommended!

Terrible, actually, even one star is too many. The schnitzel was thick and tough, and the meat tasted poor. By 6:30 p.m., the spaetzle had run out. Other dishes were also considered very poor by colleagues. Never again for me. Basically, a poor snack bar with seating.

This was our first time at the Gasthaus zum Alten Sägewerk (Old Sawmill Inn). The food is traditional and highly recommended. I had a paprika schnitzel with fries, and my daughter had the Hawaiian schnitzel with croquettes and an extra side salad. The service is excellent, and everyone is very friendly. They regularly asked if everything was okay or if there was anything missing. We sat on the outdoor terrace, which was very busy despite the 30°C heat. Despite it being very busy, we received our food within a very short time (about 15 minutes). The espresso was also delicious. Overall, we were very satisfied, and the price-performance ratio is excellent. The two of us paid just under €45 for two meals, an extra salad, three drinks, and an espresso. We will definitely be back.

A restaurant with regional cuisine... which was very, very delicious. Yeast dumplings with sauce... schnitzel, chicken schnitzel, really delicious, okay, we can only say thank you for that... it was really super, super delicious. Delicious, heartily prepared food, friendly service, and a large beer garden. It's truly fantastic, and ideal for events, as there are several adjoining rooms. We've found it helpful to make reservations several times.

Unfortunately, on Sunday evening May 11th, 2025 there was very unfriendly service. Who didn't even really want to offer us a place. That's a shame because the food is actually good.

The rooms are not very attractive from the outside or the inside, but that is by no means a reason for me to give them a bad rating. However, the food is a disgrace. On the grill plate there are only pieces of meat as thick as a thumb. I've never come across anything like that. Otherwise the prices would be really pleasant but unfortunately what we were given wasn't even worth that. First and definitely the last time.

Good, normal German cuisine. The point deducted is the outside ambience. If you are looking for German cuisine, this is 100% the right place!!! Price tip.

The food we ordered was delivered super quickly and was still really hot :) once again the food tasted great. It's become rare that you don't get mushy fries, but the old sawmill delivers really crunchy fries. We ate here again and were extremely satisfied with the food. Delicious. Always recommended.

Something needs to be changed in the outside area, it doesn't look very appealing. The service was great, very friendly. Food was ready quickly after ordering, so a sign that it couldn't have been freshly prepared. Schnitzel had an artificial breading. Fries were Completely over-seasoned.Spätzle were delicious.

First of all, you shouldn't be confused by the external condition of the building. The good is actually “hidden” within. The food is excellent and highly recommended. The Swabian dishes met our taste exactly.

The overall impression of the building and dining room is only worth three stars for us. When you stand in front of it, you're not sure whether you should go in. The nice lady on the phone when we made the reservation convinced us… Tip: go in and eat there. SUUUUPPER delicious! It's better to reserve in advance, as it's full as soon as it opens. One evening I had dinner with my wife. Unfortunately the waitress didn't speak English and the menu was only in German, but we managed to make ourselves understood and translated everything. Abundant and traditional dishes, just a little too salty. I still appreciated the German flavor.

From the outside you wouldn't believe that you can eat and sit so well here. The operators have really done everything they can to beautify and clean the old building. We were warmly welcomed and well served. The food tasted very tasty. Plenty of portions at fair prices that fill you up after a hike. We tried cordon bleu, herb pancakes and Schwabenpfopf and found them to be very good. The Munich dark goes well with it. We wish the hosts all the best

Went there on Sunday, service was quick, but the soup we ordered was completely over salted. After my complaint, there was no apology, but they took the soup away, filled it with hot water so that the taste of salt was no longer predominant and it was fine. This is rest stop level. The rest of the food wasn't bad, but not great either. Only the salad was really tasty.

Food: potato salad, spaetzle from the pack! Sauce finished product! Roasted onions were a mess...Cordon Bleu without cheese! Fries were very tasty, you can't go wrong... Service: a friendly look would be nice, please, thank you, goodbye would be polite 1. Drinks order took 15 minutes 2nd order had to be delayed by waitress and it took half an hour 3rd order never arrived! But since the cola/lemon fizz had no bubbles anyway, it wasn't bad! Other guests left after waiting for drinks for over half an hour The only positive thing is the clean toilets. A used expensive day. What I liked best was that the waitress asked the guests what they brought to the table...

Not externally impressive at this time of year. You will receive a friendly welcome in the guest room. The wait for food wasn't long and it tasted good too. Unfortunately, the dining room has a bit of the feel of a large canteen, but I see a feminine touch in the floral decorations on the tables, which tries to create a feel-good atmosphere for restaurateurs in the current difficult times. This gastronomy is worth supporting. So if you're ever in the area, stop by.

Arrived Saturday after visiting the circus with 6 adults and 2 children. It took almost an hour until we could place the drinks and food orders! Then it took another 1/2 hour until we finally received the drinks after asking! Restaurant wasn't full! Service had no overview and was not informed why it was taking so long! Luckily we had drinks with us for the children! While we were waiting, several guests who came after us left the restaurant because they were not being noticed at all!!! Then you sit in front of empty glasses while you eat, the service doesn't care either, no one came to the table! We were ignored! While clearing the dishes, ordered another beer, after half an hour asked where it was, answer: did you even order? Impudence! It doesn't help to apologize when bringing the drink! Our conclusion: If we had been told when we arrived that we obviously had staffing problems and would have to accept a longer waiting time, we would have left, because the children in particular were very hungry and thirsty! The food was good, but the very poor service and the long waiting time made us come to the conclusion that we would never visit this restaurant again and would not recommend it!!!

Portion size huge, quality rather low. Onion roast was very far from medium. When we wanted to pay, other guests kept coming forward. (probably local) All in all not recommended

Haben hier Geburtstag gefeiert. Das Essen war absolut köstlich und reichlich. Sozusagen was fürs Auge und den Gaumen. Die Angestellten waren alle ausnahmslos freundlich und nett. Das Ambiente ist sehr ansprechend. Die negativen Bewertungen hier sind absolut nicht nachvollziehbar!!! Wir werden definitiv wiederkommen und diese Lokalität wärmstens weiterempfehlen.

Bedienung seeeeeehr freundlich. Es war eine Katja glaube ich.Mega Essen,leider nur ganz wenig Besucher. Darum:Kommt zuhauf auch mittags nicht nur am WE! Deutsche Küche braucht euch sonst stirbt das schwäbische Essen bald aus!

Ein sehr nettes Lokal vor allem die großzügige Räumlichkeit.Schöne Deco und nettes Personal. Essen bürgerlich und gut .Nur die Hackfleischsoße ist Geschmackssache. Lag mir etwas im Magen .Meinem Geschmack nach gehören keine Lobeerblätter und Wacholderbeeren rein .Hat wie mein Badewasser geschmeckt und stark gesalzen. Hatte danach großen Durst und leichte Magenschmerzen .Aber Schnitzel,Spätzle gut .Beim Rostbraten wurde auch nach dem Garpunkt gefragt sehr toll .Komme trotzdem getne wieder nur lasse ich die Hackfleischsoße weg .

Essen ist sehr lecker über mehrere verschiedene Gerichte. Von der Bestellung bis zum essen sind über eine Stunde etwas zu lang deswegen ein Stern Abzug. Ansonsten sehr zu empfehlen.

Wir waren heute zu 4t Essen. 3 Gerichte waren geschmacklich sehr gut, klasse. Ein Essen wurde komplett vergessen und die Servicemitarbeiter reagierten leider auch auf keinen unserer Versuche uns bemerkbar zu machen. Chance leider vertan.

Essen das man nochmals weiter verwenden kann wurde eingepackt , keine allzu lange Wartezeiten bis das Essen kam , alle waren sehr nett und freundlich , die Plätze waren auch nicht einengend , trotz mehreren Personen am Tisch, ein schöner platz draußen im Biergarten macht es bei dem Wetter erträglicher mit einem guten Essen den Feierabend zu verbringen

Dieses doch sehr versteckte Gasthaus bietet sehr leckeres Schwäbisches Essen und ist äußerst preiswert. Die Bedienungen sind zuvorkommend und sehr freundlich. Da können sich andere höherpreisige Restaurant ein Beispiel nehmen. Gerne kommen wir wieder!
