Pork knuckle. Very yummy looking. Outer shell is mostly dry but the inside is plenty moist. Particularly great atmosphere.

Food and service were really good. Attentive and friendly, food selection also varied, quality good.

It was a great evening for us. Everything was perfect, the staff was great, wonderful food and the ambience is great. And then the waiter's toast to the Frisian spirit was really well done. We made a reservation because it is pretty full even during the week.

Delicious dishes served with fried potatoes

The Ratskeller offers classic, home-style German cuisine of excellent quality. We had a very tasty meal here for around €30 per person, the taste of the food was great and it was convincing across the board. The atmosphere is rustic and inviting, but unfortunately the seating is not particularly comfortable. In addition, the service took a while, which somewhat tarnished the otherwise positive impression. Another small point of criticism: the vegetarian/vegan selection on the menu is very limited. Despite these small weaknesses, the Ratskeller is a recommendable restaurant that just misses the 5 stars. If you like down-to-earth German cuisine, this is the place for you!

Has a very good roast game and a soup beforehand. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is freshly prepared. You should just reserve a table in advance. This can also be done quite easily via the homepage, for example.

We were there as a family (18 people) for lunch on Christmas Day. As always, everyone was very welcoming and attentive. The food tasted very good and everyone felt comfortable. So we almost missed clearing our table for the next guests. Thank you

I didn't really like the Salomon but the others liked their schnitzel very much. Great atmosphere and great service.

Went there with the family for Christmas dinner and were looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the starter soup arrived lukewarm and later the salmon was dry. The duck legs were tender, but the skin was soft. There was a vegan dish that contained hazelnuts, but perhaps there will be an alternative in the future. This meant my daughter could only eat the side dishes. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating.

Unfortunately we were a bit unlucky. Fried potatoes pale and the meat dry. Have eaten better there. Will still go back again based on previous good experiences. As mentioned, it was probably just bad luck. Update. Were here in the Ratskeller again today for a long time and were very pleasantly surprised. No comparison to last time. The food was fantastic and the service was attentive even though it was really busy. (Pre-Christmas season). Prices are absolutely reasonable. We'll definitely be back soon.

Super friendly and cozy restaurant with authentic German dishes. We tried two kinds of schnitzel, both delicious, and the Holsteiner Grünnkohlplatte which was very good, the three kinds of meat was really good. For dessert we tried the winter edition of their creme brulee server with warm cinnamon plums and ice-cream, oh my, those plums were sooo good. Service was super friendly, and efficient.

Not a place I will visit again, food was ok but more expensive than other places in town, stressed staff, stiff and boring without smile, even asked for tip when we paid.

Although everything seemed full, the friendly waiter still found a seat for us. The food was freshly prepared and appetizing. The herring fillets had a beautiful pink color, the meat was tender and the fries were delicious. Only the fried potatoes could have been crispier. Gladly again!

Central location and very good food, plentiful dishes, less service. I asked for the menu in German (and he gave it to me in English) being often in Germany for work, whether you want German or not, it's better to know it, I know the tip is appreciated, but having the cashless company card with me, at the time of account, enters the amount to make the transaction and I don't leave a tip for the lady. He resented it, he didn't even say hello to me, he wasn't even more calculated!! She slammed the receipt there and left. But what ways are these? If there was a lot to do and you were tired, all you needed to do was not behave this way!

I just like old-established places like this. It's nice and comfortable to sit in and not like you're in a train station. The food was very tasty and the service (Mrs. Darazi) was excellent. I hadn't reserved a seat and the friendly woman assigned me a table anyway. There wasn't any stupid fooling around like there often is in other places. So, I can only recommend Ratskeller Kiel!!! 👍

Great food and large portions, if you don't get full here it's your own fault, we ate venison goulash with wild mushroom sauce and braised hare leg with Brussels sprouts. My tip for anyone here in Kiel is simply a must👍👍

Great service! Our dog was immediately provided with water. The food was far too seasoned for our taste, but that may be due to the high average age of the guests. We both found it a bit cold there, but we still felt comfortable and the portions were large as expected.

A wonderful restaurant with very good cuisine. You can taste and see the good quality of the ingredients. The kale here is gorgeous and so is everything else. However, in the kale photos there is one more slice of cheek on it than normal. My wife gave it to me from her plate. Cheek is not hers😉.

Lots of different and well-equipped rooms. I thought the food was really good. The service was excellent! The prices are therefore reasonable, if not very appealing. I just loved eating there and being there.

Great food and great service. We were absolutely happy. The only drawback was the open entrance door which made our area a bit cool.

I just went in to give nature its due... When I wanted to put 50 cents in the coffee till after using the toilet, the employee I spoke to refused to accept it and said that it was service 👍 As soon as I entered the Ratskeller restaurant, I noticed the pleasant atmosphere. Soon, when we are back in Kiel, we will visit the Ratskeller restaurant to dine there.

We were there last night for a lovely dinner. Beautiful ambience and great old school service. As a starter we had the "small mixed salad" with a very interesting and tasty dressing. The main course was followed by the “Rathsherrenplatte” and the “duck on white cabbage vegetables”. Both highly recommended dishes from the small but very fine menu. At the end we were surprised with a typical local appetizer. All in all, definitely recommended, we will come back. 😊

Charming restaurant with lovely food - Ratskeller Kiel is located on Rathausplatz, centrally located in the city and easy to get to. The premises are charmingly old-fashioned and the food is simply delicious. We got pork medallions and veal roulade with chanterelles and both were super good. Very friendly service. Highly recommended :-)!

First impression was good. Unfortunately the food wasn't worth the price. Forgotten ingredients for the starter, fries streaked with fat, fried potatoes shiny with fat and not fried or unfortunately burnt. Main courses were lukewarm throughout and some of the vegetables were already cold. Forgot the filling side dish and apologized for a cup of coffee, which unfortunately only came again after I asked again. Service was friendly but seemed overwhelmed relatively quickly. Overall not recommended.

The Ratskeller is a restaurant with a rustic atmosphere, a very friendly welcome and competent and attentive service. The food, matjes or knuckle, each with fried potatoes, was plentiful and very tasty, and at a very fair price. The recommendation for the schnapps afterwards was also right. We'd love to come back again.

We were a bit skeptical at first: Ratskeller, well, a bit antiquated and maybe not really for us. But we still wanted to go to a typical Kiel restaurant. We really didn't regret our decision. Had plaice Finkenwerder style with fried potatoes and salad. Large portion, well prepared and super tasty. You could order fried potatoes free of charge. The salad wasn't the typical boring side salad you're used to, but rather creatively put together and varied. Super good. The waiter should also be highlighted. Very nice and accommodating, super on point. We would definitely recommend the Ratskeller.

Beautiful place discovered after venturing into a small street near the town hall. We had been on a cruise for a week and I was craving some fried cod. They did better. Good food, excellent beer and above all friendly and smiling staff. Optimal

You often think: a Ratskeller. Stale! But now old-fashioned has become rare. Everyone is trying fusion cuisine. So into the “Ratskeller Kiel”. Great ambience. Small good card with classics! Great and nice men in service! Great food! It was a really good decision! Absolute recommendation!!!

Rustic, authentic ambience of a Ratskeller. Very attentive service, funny and charming. The food was as we imagined, tasty, freshly prepared. Very plentiful, even too plentiful for “normal” eaters. Anything that hasn't been eaten is packed up, as we could see at the neighboring table.

The plaice was very tasty, with speck of bacon. There were also homemade fried potatoes and a salad. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. An all around lovely experience.

It was our first time for dinner, the fish was excellent, the toddler group as a starter was very delicate, a cozy atmosphere and very courteous staff. Price performance was okay in the class, we'll see each other again on our next visit to Kiel. We can highly recommend the restaurant.

Everything fits here. The welcome is friendly and you immediately feel at home. The food is excellent. The map isn't too big, so it's easy to choose. The portions are large, taste very good and are reasonably priced. When the weather is nice, it's nice to sit outside; the dining room is designed according to the name.

It was a celebration with 7 people and 3 dogs. Ala carte food came quickly for everyone and so we could eat together. Requests for drinks were quickly fulfilled. Everyone loved their food.

Service was a bit crazy, our food order was lost, the waiter apologized, we both had fish, very tasty and generous portion, as a starter a chanterelle cream soup with beef strips, I didn't know this combination, it was delicious

I had lunch there today. I was really disappointed by what I experienced. It costs 18 euros for a dish with chanterelles. but the taste was not good at all. Wouldn't come here again. 😮‍💨
