Popped in spontaneously for a Kölsch and stayed straight for dinner. The tartare was great and the knuckle was tender and juicy. We'll be back...

A truly wonderful local pub - the food and atmosphere was excellent, the Kolsch kept coming, and the warmth and friendliness of the service was incredible. Made an Australian far from home feel very welcome, and I was happy to visit more than once during my stay - and I'll definitely be back!

We found this place following reading other reviews on google. What an absolute find. Such welcoming owners and locals. The food was beautiful. From veal schnitzel to bratwurst to strudel, every plate was tasty and traditional. When the locals at the next table tell you it is the best food in Cologne then you know you are in the right place. Just a note, take cash as cards not accepted.

We were just passing by and decided to go to this pleasant cafe. The food is very tasty, the beer is wonderful. Schnitzel is beyond praise! Fragrant grilled vegetables. Very friendly and nice hosts. Be sure to visit this place, you won't regret it. We are very glad that by chance we found ourselves in this place.

We came across this delightful little restaurant while on vacation during the Euros 2024. There was a private event in part of the restaurant but the owner went out of their way to find us a table with a view of the tv for the games. We had an amazing schnitzel dinner (best we had in our 2 weeks in Germany) and I had delightful potato cakes with various toppings! So delicious. And lots of local beer. The place has a lot of charm and was loads of fun. The owners were so friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Was so happy to come across this lovely local restaurant. I had the tastiest veil schnitzel, and the owner Laura was very nice and attentive. Real little gem in just off the most crowded areas. Very pleasant experience. Highly recommend.

Nice corner pub, delicious food, very friendly staff and a great location right next to St. Gereon.

Once again we had a very nice evening there. Stopped by spontaneously and was warmly welcomed and served despite being overcrowded. There may always be a small gap for guests. You can eat and drink well here without hesitation. Fast, personal and perfect service despite two major events. In addition to Kölsch... wine or Prosecco also arrived at the recipient quickly and well chilled. Keep it up! You don't find that everywhere. See you soon

We watched the European Championship game between Germany and Hungary here. There was a great atmosphere here with delicious Kölsch and great schnitzel! Looking forward to the next visit.

This bar is charming as hell. The veal schnitzel is delicious and the potatoes that come with it are perfectly fried with bacon & onion. The husband & wife running it are a delight; I felt like I was at home having a family dinner. Going back tomorrow for curryworst 😁

We were recently guests at “Em Hähnche” as part of a private party (birthday). Heard a lot, but haven't been there before... And what can I say, we were thrilled! Cozy, rustic pub, familiar, friendly and attentive service and delicious food. Starters and desserts were available in the form of small prepared portions directly from the counter, schnitzel, steak and grilled cheese, combined with various salads, were available in small portions so that you could try everything! We had a great evening

Beautifully quaint restaurant and restaurant on the corner! The food was super tasty and always fresh. The Kölsch comes quickly and the landlord and his family and team are super lovable and always in a good mood. Our Veedelswirtschaft, whether for the Kölsch after work, watching football or the big birthday party. We always like to come back and always feel comfortable!

Beautiful, lively Kölsch pub with great, professional, friendly service and a delicious schnitzel. Very clear recommendation, rightly packed on a Thursday evening.

You can quickly describe this pub with just one word - MEGA! The food is always delicious (try the Leberkäse, which is specially "imported" from Munich) and is always perfectly prepared by the chef. Host David is a real atmosphere and simply picks up everyone. The service is always great, it's super clean and sometimes you come in here in a mood where you ask yourself "What's going on here?". A surprise bag like no other. Small but mighty! 5 stars in every category you can imagine.

Good German cuisine, veal schnitzel was delicious

I was here on a Wednesday before the holiday and had a very nice evening! We sat outside, regularly had the chance to order something (so you weren't "forgotten" outside) and were always served quickly. We especially remember Laura very positively! We both had the Wiener Schnitzel, which I would really like to highlight here! It really tasted very good! Around curfew, loud music came on inside and people danced. All in all, a very nice evening that I would be happy to repeat!

The Em Hähnche is my favorite Kölsch pub. But it's much more than a pub, because the cuisine is really good: from simple brewery fare to delicious home-made roasts. The atmosphere is rustic, cozy. Very pleasant Cologne audience from the surrounding district. While I'm writing this, I'm immediately craving the next Kölsch at Em Hühnche... ;-)

Super brewery 2 minutes from Cologne Cathedral. Very kind staff who make you feel at home! Nothing to say about the food, top experience with typical food and unlimited beer, recommended

A quaint pub. We were there with a group and ate Cologne tapas. Really tasty. Laura's service was very quick, attentive and really nice. I forgot my cap there (why🍻?) but I was able to solve it easily 2 days later😇😅

Yesterday we celebrated my mother's 70th birthday with a private chicken party. What can I say ?! It was a perfect evening from start to finish with amazing food and the best service you could wish for. Starting with a Kölsch snack, Kölsche tapas, a great vitello tonnato, it continued with small plates of shrimp on vegetables, steak with potato gratin, sauerbraten with dumplings and red cabbage and fish with lukewarm potato and cucumber salad. The meal was rounded off with excellent desserts. All wishes were implemented absolutely perfectly. The guests were thrilled, mom was overjoyed and we found our favorite restaurant! Great class 👍🏻 Thank you, thank you, thank you Unfortunately I don't have any photos but I'm sure the host can post them here!

As an “Immi”, I was in this rustic restaurant for the first time on 02.2428. My meal was sensational, the host was funny and friendly, the service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely visit this restaurant often.

As an American traveling and eating my way through Europe, this spot was easily my favorite. Incredible local German food with dishes (sauerbraten) that are hard to find stateside. And the service! The owners are friendly and sat down to discuss the menu with our party in English. Very local spot compared to the Aldstadt area, and the quite reasonable price for a meal reflects that. You may even find yourself in a conversation about FC Köln’s next match. You will enjoy your meal here!

I've been here now and then for a few Kölsch or for a meal (which is also recommended!), but recently I also celebrated my birthday here with around 25 people. Well, albeit a little late, there is also the corresponding review. ;-) All wishes were implemented perfectly. There were delicious snacks, no one got a dry throat and the service was absolutely great. We and all our guests really enjoyed it. Hats off to how professionally but also cordially the restaurant is run. Feeling uncomfortable here or having a bad evening seems impossible to me. See you again soon!

Als nicht Kölner eines der Besten und lustigsten Locations, was ich je erlebt habe. Service war bombastisch. Gäste im Lokal waren alle ziemlich nett zu uns. Ein "Prinz" war vor Ort und hat uns Gäste herzlich empfangen und für bzw. mit uns gesungen. Jedem nicht Kölner, der die Kulter der Kölner sowie die Gastfreundschaft erleben möchte, ist hier richtig aufgehoben!

Accueil hyper chaleureux, le serveur nous a proposé un plat local fameux et très copieux. Il nous a aussi enseigné quelques traditions locales. Il vous faut aller le voir.

Fantastische Gaststätte! Habe noch nirgendwo anders so herzliche und zuvorkommende Gastgeber erlebt! Sogar eine kleine Überraschung für unser Geburtstagskind haben sie organisiert... Das Essen war ebenso hervorragend. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und hatten einen wunderbaren Abend - wir werden mit Sicherheit wieder kommen!

Waren am 06.01.2024 mit 16 Mann in dieser urigen, typischen und tollen Kneipe. Das Essen, der Service, das Kölsch und die Gastgeber waren einfach nur MEGA, wir haben uns alle sehr wohl gefühlt und hatten aber auch gar nichts zu meckern. Zusätzlich zur Speisekarte gab es auch super Tagesempfehlungen auf Tafeln und für beides gilt, wenn aus dann aus. Wenn dies kein Zeichen für Frische, Qualität und Regionalität ist. Somos mexicanos, fuimos de vacaciones a Köln, desde que llegas las personas son tan amables, hablan inglés, (si no entiendes el idioma son muy pacientes y lindos) pedí una sopa para iniciar y estaba RIQUISIMA, fue mi comida favorita de Alemania, pedimos unas cervezas y unas salchichas, todo muy muy bueno. Gente muy amable y linda. VOLVERÍA MIL VECES 💖💖💖

We have has dinner today and the knuckle with chips and onion was amazing!!!😍 It is the BEST we have tried for now!! We really recommend It!! Also the dessert apfelstrudel recommended by the restaurant, It was really nice. The service was so nice with us and made us feel really well! And last but not least, the beer it was also excellent! Super Gaststätte mit herzlichem Personal und nettem Ambiente. Unerwartet leckere Gerichte zu fairen Preisen. Dazu leckeres Gaffel vom Fass! Der neue Inhaber macht das super, daher kommen wir gerne wieder!
