Gasthof Pension Müller in Lichtenfels

A small hotel in a quiet part of town - a good starting point for hikes The hotel (or is it just an inn?) is located in a quiet part of Lichtenfels in Upper Franconia. The property consists of an old building and a new building. According to the website, there is a difference in the room amenities (and also in the price) - the new building also has an elevator. We spent two nights in the new building. The rooms are modernly furnished, with very nice reading lamps by the bed and are sufficiently large (even for stays of 1-2 weeks). These rooms have a lovely, large balcony. The views vary depending on the side of the building. The bathroom was relatively large with a walk-in shower. There was ample storage space. We received a very friendly welcome and were then shown to our room. The door opens electronically. This worked very well. The kitchen serves mainly Italian cuisine. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, three regional dishes are also offered – some require advance reservation (Schäufele). You can also (pre-)order a fish dish. The service was very friendly. The prices for food and drinks (at least three beers) seemed reasonable to us – beer prices are below the level in other (northern, eastern) German states. The bill was brought to us at around 10:30 p.m. There is the option of sitting down in additional rooms and spending the evening. The breakfast rooms are modernly furnished. There is a fresh food counter between the breakfast room and the kitchen. This was used to refill the food in the back, which guests had placed on their plates at the front. ;-) I didn't find the single coffee machine for guests ideal. You have to be prepared with some time, and you only get one cup of coffee at the table. However, these machines are becoming more and more common in hotels. This allows you to choose from various coffee drinks, but you do have to queue, which might take a while. The hotel offers plenty of parking spaces and garages for cars and e-bikes. The hotel was busy during our stay. In the morning, e-bikers set off on their rides. There are (at least) two castles/monasteries near the hotel that you can explore. You can get further by bike.

Nice hotel with excellent Franconian/Italian cuisine and a beautiful location near Banz Monastery. Friendly service and a friendly manager. Rooms were spotlessly clean.

We're thrilled! We spent 3 days at the Gasthof Müller and would definitely go back. Our little one had a blast and felt very comfortable. The staff was super friendly! We definitely recommend the steak and trout! It was truly delicious. We also really enjoyed the breakfast. Everything was perfect. It's only 3km to Lichtenfels and 35km to Bamberg. We explored the area and really enjoyed it. We'll plan another short trip. Thanks for everything :)

The hotel is located in a small, quiet town. The part where we had our room was beautifully renovated. The room was very spacious, and the bathroom and balcony were also large. We were able to store our bikes in the garage. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast suffered from the large number of guests, who were spread across many rooms, but there was enough for everyone. The evening meal was delicious. We felt very comfortable!

Yes, I can recommend it. The only downside is that there's no small refrigerator.

Noisy comfort room with a view of the chimney and the roof spire I booked a "comfort room" double room for €118 through the Gasthof Müller website rather than through one of the hotel portals. The room was renovated and clean. However, the "comfort room" was located directly above the narrow inner courtyard, where all guests go to their rooms on their day off. In the passageway, the noises are carried upwards like in a chimney, and it echoes very loudly. For half the night, a group of people were busy at the entrance to the inn with beer bottles from the inn's vending machine... very loud despite the windows closed. The view from the comfort room is of silver-colored chimneys and the inn's roof gable. "Comfort room" does not offer a kettle, free mineral water upon arrival, or anything similar. A call to the manager to ask if the room was really a "comfort room" didn't change anything. The breakfast buffet is well-arranged.

Luckily, it was only a two-night stay... ...we had chosen the guesthouse based on the pictures and good reviews. Our first experience upon arrival was also quite positive. The reception was friendly, and we were able to store our bikes behind the building (albeit very cramped, as everything was already full). That's the positive part, though. We were given a room at the end of the second floor, which was clearly showing its age...absolutely no comparison to the beautiful room pictures on the website. If we had known this beforehand, we would definitely have chosen a different hotel. We pulled a total of eight spiders down from the ceiling before we went to bed later. The cleaning staff definitely failed in their job. The cobwebs on the ceiling and window frames (which were also unkempt) were also conveniently overlooked. We went there for dinner that evening. I had a cordon bleu with fries. On the plate were two pieces in a vaguely heart-shaped shape, a single lettuce leaf and half a cherry tomato somewhere in between, along with fries. All of it was probably prepared in a deep fryer and tasted like a lousy morsel. The night in the room was dominated by a lavish party by a group of motorcyclists in the courtyard, which we could still hear breaking up at 2:30 a.m. Why the staff didn't intervene at the expense of the other guests is beyond me. Apart from that, the mattresses were so thin on a rigid slatted frame that a comfortable night's sleep was impossible. The mattresses looked more comfortable in the pictures... after all, they were in different rooms. Now for breakfast. Another guest had already noted that it's easy to get congested at the buffet because only one guest can help themselves to sausage, cheese, and butter at a time, leaving others to wait. The selection was relatively limited and didn't include, for example, salmon, which is what I'm used to. Eggs in any other form than boiled would have been charged extra. The worst part, however, was actually moldy bread in the display. Upon inquiry, my wife learned that the baker had already been approached about this, but he pointed out the high humidity, which is why the hotel has to inspect the goods thoroughly before exposing its guests to danger! Another no-go for us was the video camera placed at chest height on the shelf at the corner table, which the other two guests in the room hadn't noticed either. Upon inquiry with the staff, we were told that there were signs indicating video surveillance. In fact, there was a small, inconspicuous metal sign on a wall in the anteroom, above other notices, that generally indicated video surveillance. If someone at this corner table used their cell phone, perhaps even for a banking transaction, they could be unknowingly recorded. Such surveillance in the breakfast room, just because guests reportedly had breakfast without having booked it, is completely unacceptable in my opinion, and if so, then the notice must be posted much more clearly. Ideally, at the entrance to the room being monitored. Also, the camera is usually placed at ceiling height, not at chest height when sitting, as here. I certainly don't want to be under surveillance while having breakfast; there are other ways to prevent this kind of food theft. We definitely won't be coming back.

Yes, any time, relaxing atmosphere, good location, beautiful garden

The menu is supposed to be a mix of Italian and Franconian food. The food was a disaster. I ordered schnitzel with horseradish sauce and fries. What came was a cordon bleu in an indefinable sauce with no horseradish flavor at all. My wife had a carelessly thrown-together salad. We remember the food from our previous restaurant, which was always very good. We won't be visiting this restaurant again.

The rooms are great, but the wait of about 60 minutes for the food was too long for me personally, and the salad (Steak) was very disappointing. The staff is friendly, but they should reconsider some of their comments. At breakfast, you'll want to be on time, as a line immediately forms due to the small buffet. The exterior impression is okay. It was fine for one night, but I wouldn't spend a vacation there.

I was not only impressed by the price and performance, but also by how clean it was. I hardly ever find a hotel this clean. I had gotten used to it, but now I've experienced that I can set my standards high in this regard. The beds have electrically adjustable firmness. Mine, however, was very soft.

Good starting point for excursions into the beautiful surroundings or to the thermal baths.

We were skeptical at first because the owner changed. Have been coming here for many years and have always been satisfied. The new menu is now a mix of pizza, pasta and Franconian specialties. At the weekend there are still carp and trout. A highlight for us was the horseradish pizza. We would order again immediately. It is still worth visiting the Gasthof Müller.

I wouldn't recommend at all. No reception at night.

Unfortunately, a very good restaurant with Franconian cuisine became another Italian trattoria. All reviews of the restaurant from before March 2024 should therefore be ignored.

Unfortunately we totally fell for it today. Cordonbleu with fries, was a really small portion. You had to look for cheese and water often ran out when you cut it. The salad was half cooked vegetables such as beetroot, beans and cooked carrots. I would like a fresh salad. Unfortunately also very bland. Then we got a coffee on the house... The milk was flaked. Then I didn't dare say anything anymore... Service was very friendly and understanding. That night I still had stomach pain.

I've rarely felt so comfortable. Clean, cozy rooms, the restaurant offers very good regional cuisine and there is a wonderful sauna area. For day trippers: Rosenberg Fortress in Kronach is less than 30km away and definitely worth a visit

Der beste Ort auf der Welt! Ich rate jedem, mindestens einmal im Leben das Muller-Haus zu besuchen, es ist das Herz dieser Regionen. Das Essen ist wunderbar, die Zimmer sind sehr sauber. Ein sehr einladender Ort. Sie werden sich in diesen Ort verlieben, genau wie ich.

Super zentral gelegen für einen Ausflug zum Kloster Banz, Staffelberg und Basilika Vierzehnheiligen Essen hervorragend zu absolut faireren Preisen und sehr professionelle Bedienungen, die ihren Job wirklich verstehen (Danke Ondine und Anna-Lena 😍) Haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt !

Gasthof Müller überraschte mit grosser Sauberkeit und 1a Ausstattung der Zimmer. Der Standort liegt sehr zentral. Gute Autobahn - Anbindung. Guter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge aller Art. Natürlich das Kloster Banz

Fränkische Spezialitäten vom Feinsten

Leider wurde uns nicht der vom Chef am Telefon besprochene Zimmerpreis berechnet. Wir waren nun 10 mal dort. Es war immer nur eine telefonische Absprache. Nun hies es wir haben ja nichts schriftliches. Sie Chefin hielt es nicht für notwendig mit uns persönlich zu sprechen. In Zukunft werden wir uns eine andere Unterkunft suche. Schade

Das Essen hier ist schmackhaft und angemessen im Preis. Wir waren 2 mal dort und können das Restaurant nur empfehlen

Essen sehr gut, Preise genau richtig, Bedienung sehr nett. Sehr schöne Atmosphäre und spontan für 11 Erwachsene und zwei Kinder platz.

Als Radurlauber im Hotel eingekehrt wurden wir sehr herzlich mit einem kühlen Getränk empfangen. Die Räder könnten in einem geeigneten Raum untergestellt werden. Die Zimmer sind angenehm in der Größe, sehr sauber und modern, z. T. mit Balkon. Das Servicepersonal im Restaurant war wirklich schnell, sehr herzlich, nett und zuvorkommend, die Speisen super lecker. Ein Abschlussgetränk konnte auf den Balkon des Zimmers mitgenommen werden. Wir fühlten uns rund um wohl.

Auf dem Rückweg nach München hier vorbeigekommen und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Rinderroulade vom Feinsten. Auch der Fisch sah sehr gut aus. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder. Preise absolut ok.

Wir hatten Wildschweinbraten mit Spätzle und Rotkraut und Rumpsteak mit Pfeffersauce es war einfach sehr lecker. Beim zweiten Mal gab es Kalbsbraten mit Wirsing und Klösse. Auch das hat wieder sehr gut geschmeckt.
