A traditional restaurant with excellent food quality

Located in the heart of the old town, this is a historic site. The sun 🌞 was shining, so we were able to sit outside on October 9th. The menu offered something for every taste, even for those on a tight budget 👛.

We arrived in the evening shortly before the kitchen closed. The service and waitresses were exceptionally pleasant. Our food was wonderfully tasty. The ambiance and interior design of the restaurant are truly outstanding. Therefore, we were extremely satisfied and would gladly return if we had the chance.

Extremely poor service; Jessica took our drink order and didn't deliver the beer we ordered; she wasn't willing to take back the wrong beer; I ordered food: my partner received his fried salmon, and an hour later, my salad still hadn't arrived!!!! I reported it... After 15 minutes, still nothing, so I canceled the order and paid! Then she finally brought the salad! Of course, I declined again! She did offer to compensate with an espresso🥴 Tip: don't eat there!

This is our second time here because of the incredibly delicious knuckles of pork and the perfect, rustic atmosphere. The waitress, Sandra, is simply amazing—funny and very, very friendly. We'll be back because everything is just right!

The quality of the food has unfortunately declined considerably in recent years. The steak was tough, and the dark beer sauce tasted like an instant gravy. And the fried potatoes don't deserve the name. Overall, the service was completely uninspired and unimaginative, like something from a cafeteria. As a result, the prices, like everywhere else, have gone up accordingly. Only the beer was excellent. What a shame! But apparently, it's still good enough for most tourists, because without a reservation, you can't get in, at least on weekends.

Unfortunately, we expected more from the oldest inn. The food was not recommendable, quantity over quality. It was only geared toward fast-moving tourists. The service was also "always attentive," but nothing more. There are much better restaurants in town.

Delicious food and an extensive beer menu from the Faust Brewery in a cozy, historic atmosphere. We really enjoyed it! 👍

We had made a reservation by phone, but when we arrived, no reservation could be found! The lady told us she could only find a seat for us if we could show a written reservation! There was a free table in the beer garden, so we asked a waitress if we could sit there, and the friendly waitress said "yes." When we asked the lady at the reservation if that was okay, she said we could sit there, but the food would take a very, very long time! We had the impression that they don't want to make any sales! However, there are also some very nice and good restaurants in Miltenberg (e.g., Cafe Ginkgo, Faust Braustuben, etc.) where we had a very good meal and received very friendly service!

The sauce was a bit too heavy, and the bread dumplings were too firm. Nevertheless, a lovely place. I can't comment on the rooms.

We had lunch at the Gasthaus Riesen with a group of 44 people. The food was excellent. Katja and her team were particularly accommodating and provided excellent service. We highly recommend this restaurant.

The seating is great. A traditional inn. It could have been if Faust Bräu, with their great beers, weren't running it. So what can I complain about? But: I'm not used to eggs with Gris sauce. Nice place, but the food has potential for improvement The Gasthaus zum Riesen is an impressive place with a lot of history – the ambiance is truly lovely, and the service was also very friendly. What disappointed me, however, was the food. The schnitzels, in particular, were very reminiscent of pre-breaded frozen food – both in taste and texture. In a place with so much tradition, I would have preferred more freshness and quality. So, my open question to the kitchen: Do they actually use pre-made, frozen schnitzels – a mass-produced product??? Overall, a nice visit, but there was still a lot of room for improvement in the culinary department.

Beautiful location, right in the pedestrian zone. Hearty food. Salad plates are the only "vegetables" aside from cabbage. For such a large restaurant, there's only one small restroom on the upper floor.

On our short trip through Germany, we stumbled upon the oldest inn in the country. We were completely satisfied. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and there are also good options for vegans and vegetarians, which I'm especially pleased about. My partner really enjoyed the huge selection of beers, and the overall atmosphere was truly lovely and quaint. We'd especially like to mention the wonderful waiter who served us throughout the evening. A truly pleasant young man with a great sense of humor who does a great job. He not only gave us recommendations for good drinks but also for our leisure activities. Awesome, thank you very much!

Great service, good food at a fair price. Even though we were seated outside during the kitchen break, the friendly waitress made every effort to ensure we were able to order and eat. She did so successfully and without complaint. A heartfelt thank you for that; it makes dining out a pleasure.

My wife and I can't understand all these (in our opinion, there are many) bad reviews! We were on vacation in Miltenberg and ate and drank at the Riesen several times. We are still enchanted by the courtesy of the staff (we laughed a lot together), and the food was also very tasty. Some reviewers apparently want to be treated like royalty, but sometimes treat restaurant employees like dirt. The bottom line: What goes around comes around!!! P.S. We'd be happy to come back anytime!!

We received a friendly welcome. The dining area is quite loud, especially when guests try to act as solo entertainers. The service was friendly, but a different colleague was always in charge, and the one in charge seemed to be a beginner. He tried very hard to do things right. The food tasted good. The portion of Franconian bratwurst with fried potatoes was boiled potatoes without any seasoning, bacon, or onions. The bratwurst was more like a dwarf sausage than a giant sausage—see menu. The price/performance ratio here is not good. We can't comment on the hotel rooms.

The food was delicious, but: The plate was cold, and the meatballs were only warm, while the fried potatoes were hot. Service was a bit inattentive. Nice location and atmosphere.

Restaurant denied us service because the server lied about how long we were waiting to be served. We got into argument and the manager sided with the lying server. They told us that we cant order food. My baby started crying and my pregnant wife felt sick. There were thousand ways to make this right, yet the manager decided that we cant order food. I don't remember being treated like this in any restaurant before... I don't even know if its not against the law to deny service to customers this way.

Small but very quaint inn. Very friendly, competent, and helpful staff, who even offer good recommendations when you're not sure what to order. Whether it's food or drinks, the food was truly delicious and, above all, very freshly prepared. The selection of different beers is also highly recommended. It's a shame I'm only visiting the region. Otherwise, I'd love to come here more often.

Unfortunately, we weren't satisfied with our visit. After sitting at our table for about 30 minutes, unnoticed, and asking the waiters twice to order, we were the first to be served – even though other guests who arrived after us were much faster or had been served before us. Drinks also took a long time. We were only able to order our food after they arrived. The waitress explained to us that they wanted to avoid food arriving before drinks – which isn't a good sign for the kitchen's operations. The food itself was unfortunately only lukewarm. Because we were so hungry, we decided not to return it, but we politely mentioned it when paying. The waitress expressed regret and said we should have mentioned it sooner, but that doesn't change the fact that the entire process was simply not right. Overall, a disappointing experience – a shame, because the ambiance was actually quite nice. Improvements in service and kitchen organization are urgently needed.

The waitress repeatedly forgets orders, gives priority to guests who arrive later, and behaves impertinently when you complain that your order hasn't arrived despite repeated requests and reminders three times! The best part was the final remark: that they're a pub and don't accept guests who just want a beer, even though there are other guests sitting around them who are just enjoying their beer! In summary, never again in this unfriendly establishment!

The beer selection was huge and delicious. The roast pork was also tasty and the portion was large. BUT. The children's schnitzel tasted very strange (like old meat) and also seemed undercooked. We sent it back to the kitchen. We were offered a replacement, but the small one was already full of fries. My wife also got a stomach ache that evening. Conclusion: Highly recommended for a beer, but not for the food.

I can't rate the food. Unfortunately, no direct seating assignment! We were only informed when taking our orders that if a large group arrived, this table would have to be reserved for the large group, and we would then have to move. (All the other large tables on the gallery were also only occupied by two people.) Therefore, proper seating assignment would have been appropriate in this case. And not "the last one to arrive gets the better of the dogs." Too bad... maybe the people in charge are reading this!?

As part of a weekend trip with friends, eight of us went to dinner at the "Gasthaus zum Riesen" in Miltenberg. The beer brewer's pan with three different steaks and a small bratwurst was ridiculous for the price. The bratwurst was small (it says so on the menu), and the steaks were also small, measuring no more than 5 to 6 mm thick. I would call it a roast meat instead of a steak. The price is completely unreasonable for this dish. Our table also had the "Riesen Pfanne" (Giant Pan), pork loin with fresh mushrooms in a cream sauce. There was half a mushroom in the pan. The large selection of delicious beers on tap is worth mentioning. You get the impression that this place is catering to tourists. Those who come once and then never come back.

Good menu and delicious, plentiful dishes. Unfortunately, our server seemed disinterested in the guests. We were simply ignored. Highly recommended if you don't mind waiting. Otherwise, however, the service was very prompt and friendly. Our server was apparently new.

The charming town with its medieval streets, half-timbered houses and cozy cafes will take you back in time. Gasthaus zum Riesen is the oldest princely inn in Miltenberg and Germany. Translated from German as the giant's house. Ludwig of Bavaria himself stayed at "Riesen" in 1314, and Charles IV lived here for 8 days in 1368. The restaurant and hotel are located in a unique building built in the Renaissance style. We spontaneously entered the restaurant; we did not have a reservation and were offered to sit at a table at the bar. It was a sunny, warm day and people were sitting on the terrace, the windows were open and the sunlight softened the dark interior of the heavy beams and created an atmosphere of comfort and lightness.

We only drank a local, non-alcoholic beer there because we didn't want to miss out on a visit to this very historic building.

As part of a holiday trip, two of us were guests at the Gasthaus zum Riesen twice. On the first evening just to quench your thirst and a pretzel. Reserved for dinner on the second evening. We had a great spot right next to the buffet. The place was packed and everything that passed us looked attractive. Our main courses were also very okay, although the dark beer sauce in my dish was very striking. For service, food, ambience, full marks.

As part of our visit to Miltenberg, we stopped for lunch at the traditional “Gasthaus zum Riesen” before our brewery tour began. Unfortunately, the culinary experience could not continue on previous visits. The liver dumpling soup as a starter was not very convincing: the broth seemed bland, the liver dumpling was rather bland, and the soup should have been served much hotter. The impression continued with the main courses. The taste of the cooked cheese schnitzel was average - the cheese was filling, but could not compensate for the mediocre quality of the schnitzel. The schnitzel with green sauce was particularly disappointing: the typical herbal note was almost completely missing, the color was more white than green, and a clear lemon note was unpleasantly dominant. The “giant pan” was also disappointing – both in terms of portion size and preparation. The loin was dry, the sauce thin and not very aromatic. What should be highlighted positively, however, are the beers, which continue to impress at the highest level and are undoubtedly unparalleled. The service was also attentive, although the tone occasionally seemed a bit too casual. All in all, the impression remains that the Gasthaus zum Riesen relies heavily on tourism and the quality suffers as a result. Given the history of the house, it would be nice if more emphasis was placed on appropriate kitchen performance again - the potential is undoubtedly there.

Were there for dinner on a Saturday. Would recommend reserving a table. There's good stuff going on here. Restaurant very quaint but harmoniously furnished. Good home-style, rather hearty and local cuisine. Friendly staff. It's also fun to look at the map. There is a beer recommendation for every dish. I had the beer brewer's pan, my wife had the schnitzel with spaetzle. Food came after about 30 minutes. Unfortunately my wife's food was already cold. It worked for me. The sauce itself was a little lacking. Otherwise the food was good. Price/performance also good. 4 stars. The tables outside are a little crooked, so don't necessarily order soup ;-)

We visited Miltenberg over Easter. The first time we reserved the table at the giant online, the second time we went in spontaneously and were lucky. Both times the food was perfect and the staff was very friendly. We really liked the atmosphere and the food. We'll definitely be back.

Six of us recently stayed at this inn and unfortunately we have to say that we were very disappointed. The food wasn't served hot, which left a bad impression. The liver in particular was tough, with a thick layer of fat and was hardly edible. Unfortunately, when I made my complaint, I was not taken seriously. The reaction of the staff was not very insightful and even a bit cheeky. Nevertheless, my food was prepared again and although it was better, it was still not enjoyable. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant. It feels more like a tourist trap where the quality of the food and service are not up to par. It's a shame, because I had hoped for more from the oldest inn in Germany.

A Bavarian gem with small weaknesses The Gasthaus zum Riesen in Miltenberg is a place where you can experience Bavarian hospitality and tradition up close. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy, and you immediately feel at home. Particularly noteworthy is the large selection of beers, which will delight every beer lover. In terms of cuisine, we were treated to a crispy and juicy knuckle that was perfectly prepared. The chocolate tart was also a real treat and a crowning conclusion to the meal. Unfortunately we got a cold steak. For the price of €28 you should expect a salad and no cold meat would be served. Unfortunately the price/performance ratio is not right.

This was our second time here, as the food was excellent the first time. Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed this time. The large salad with turkey strips was very simple, with lettuce leaves, a bit of cabbage, carrot, and two slices of beetroot. The dressing was very tasty. The dish from the daily special was good; the meat was juicy and had plenty of sauce. The apple fritters at the end were unfortunately cold. Nevertheless, we would like to give the restaurant another chance, because, as I said, everything from appetizer to dessert was exceptionally good on our first visit.

Great food and service. Reservation is essential. All the dishes were excellent but the burgers with their local sauce were the tastiest. Faust, where he owns the house, produces a beer specially for the restaurant, which is super! Initially our reservation was in this "cave" and even though the shop was full they changed our seat with a smile to make us more comfortable. Definitely worth going. The drinks and food are undoubtedly excellent! But what's much more important about this inn is the history behind it... it's one of the oldest inns in Germany. Elvis Presley and other famous people have been guests there.
