Gasthaus zum Riesen in Miltenberg

Am liebsten würden wir Null Sterne, bzw - Sterne vergeben. Dieses Restaurant ist in jeglicher Hinsicht eine Katastrophe und nicht zu empfehlen. Auf der Heimfahrt von Frankfurt machten wir Halt in Miltenberg. Miltenberg wurde uns auf diversen Plattformen als ein sehenswerter Ort angezeigt mit kulinarischen Genüssen. Etliche gut bewertete Restaurants haben montags, wie in vielen anderen Städten auch, geschlossen. Leider hatte das Gasthaus zum Riesen geöffnet. 4,5 Sterne. Die Frage ist nur, wie man solch eine Bewertung, mit diesem Essen, bzw. Service erreichen kann. Wir gehen regelmäßig Essen, aber was wir hier vorgefunden haben, ist nahezu unbeschreiblich. Das Restaurant war sehr gut besucht. Speisekarte übersichtlich, was wir persönlich auch mögen. Die Bestellung wurde zügig aufgenommen und das Essen kam recht schnell. Dies sollte jedoch das Highlight des Abends im Restaurant zum Riesen sein, wie sich noch im Nachhinein herausstellte. Voller Vorfreude bekam ich mein Rumpsteak [Medium bestellt] Bekommen habe ich ein durchgebratenes Stück Fleisch, an dem noch etwas Silberhaut war. Abgesehen, dass das Messer, welches zum Steak dazu serviert wurde auch noch stumpf war, konnte ich mit Hilfe eines anderen Messers, welches in dem Besteck-Krug war, mit viel Kraftaufwand, das zähe Stück Fleisch, was ehrlich gesagt mit einer Schuhsohle konkurrieren hätte können, durchschneiden. Das Tier wurde in diesem Fall leider zweimal getötet. Einmal beim Metzger und in der Pfanne des Kochs, obwohl die Berufsbezeichnung dem Essen nicht angemessen ist. Die Bratkartoffeln waren teilweise schwarz, andere wiederum nur von der Pfanne geküsst und blass. Die Soße eine weitere Katastrophe. So dick und mit Pulver gemacht, sodass man auch hätte in der Karte schreiben können... [Mit einer Scheibe Soße] Der Service, der bis dato wirklich sehr zu empfehlen war, kam an unserem Tisch und fragte nach, wie uns das Essen schmecken würde... Meine Frau hat es ebenfalls nicht geschmeckt, aber bei Bratwürsten usw ist es Geschmackssache, bei meinem Gericht waren es jedoch viele fachliche Fehler. Der Kellner meinte, er würde es in der Küche ansprechen, fand es jedoch nicht nötig nochmals zu uns an den Tisch zu kommen. 20 min später ließen wir uns dann die Rechnung bringen. Es gab weder ein Angebot ein neues Essen zu bringen, noch eine kleine Art Wiedergutmachung in Form eines Getränks, bzw. Preisnachlass. Wir reisen bestimmt nicht auf solche Touren, denn wir sind gerne bereit für gutes Essen auch gutes Geld zu zahlen, aber in diesem Restaurant ist man in unseren Augen fehl am Platz. Anbei mal ein Foto des Gerichts und der Quittung. Bisher habe ich nur positive Bewertungen abgegeben, aber in diesem Fall möchten wir Touristen einen Gefallen tun. Schade, dass unser Miltenberg Besuch auf Grund unfähigen Personals so negativ behaftet ist.

Ein hervorragendes Restaurant mit angeschlossener Pension! Hier sagt man, es sei die älteste Pension Deutschlands! Mit diesem Ort kann man nichts falsch machen! Er liegt mitten in der Altstadt in einer malerischen Straße, direkt neben einem ausgezeichneten bayerischen Restaurant mit Bier und Schweinshaxe. Ganz in der Nähe befindet sich die Flusspromenade mit Geschäften, Restaurants und einem Berg mit einer Burg, von dem aus man einen herrlichen Blick über die Stadt hat! Die Stadt selbst könnte man getrost als „deutsche Perle“ bezeichnen. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Wir kommen seit ca. 10 Jahren regelmäßig nach Miltenberg. Ein Besuch im Riesen, war immer ein Highlight. Auch das Essen war immer sehr lecker und ausreichend. Heute waren wir alle soooo enttäuscht vom Essen. Wir hatten - Wurstsalat: das war wirklich eine Minimini Portion und leider total versalzen. - Semmelknödel mit Bratensoße und Rotkohl: der Kloß total fest, trocken und versalzen, das Rotkohl ohne Rotkohlgeschmack dafür auch versalzen und die Soße hatte auch außer Salz keinen sonstigen Geschmack. - Schnitzel mit grüner Soße: war auch nicht der Burner und alles auf dem Teller war sehr trocken - Bauernsalat: das war noch das beste am Tisch aber auch nicht mehr so lecker wie früher. Eigentlich hätte ich nur einen Punkt gegeben wegen dem schlechten Essen, aber die Bedienung war super nett und hat 5 Sterne verdient und daher wollten wir das honorieren.

Wir waren zu zweit im Riesen essen . Das Essen hat gut geschmeckt , die Portionen waren reichlich. Auch über den Service gab es nichts zu meckern. Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis hat absolut gepasst.

Touristische Verpflegung Niedriges Niveau

Im Mai 26 durfte ich dort ein leckeres Essen genießen. Ich bin nach wie vor sehr zufrieden damit. Besonders gut gefallen hat mir die Service-Dame Philippa Schwarz. Sehr freundlich, effizient, erfahren, empathisch. So möchte man betreut werden. Ich möchte den RIESEN sehr empfehlen!

Wir haben dort zu siebt gegessen. Allen hat es sehr gut geschmeckt. Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam, freundlich und schnell. Die Essensauswahl ist sehr gut und preislich echt ok. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hier essen- es war wirklich rundum sehr gut.

waren einen Tag zum Mittagessen in dem Gasthaus. Hatten nicht reserviert und bekamen trotzdem einen schönen Platz für 2 auf einer kleinen Empore. Der Kellner war freundlich, hilfsbereit, kompetent und aufmerksam. Getränke: natürlich das gute Bier in Form eines Weißbieres -- lecker. Speisen: gut sortierte Speisekarte (Brauhausstil natürlich), Tagesgericht, Wir hatten das Tagesgericht und einen großen Salat mit Champignons. Reichlich, lecker, frisch und im sehr guten Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Ambiente: urig, rustikal, gemütlich Außenbestuhlung ebenfalls vorhanden. Ein sehr schönes Lokal mit herzhaften Gerichten und klasse Service. Lohnt sich........... und wir empfehlen es ausdrücklich

waren "nur" zum Mittagessen hier - lecker, auch wenn es gerne hätte gewürzt sein dürfen ;-) die Bedienung - trotz WLAN Probleme mit den Bestellterminals - sehr freundlich, und es ging alles sehr zügig ... im Zentrum von Miltenberg gut gegessen.

Das Essen war von der Qualität leider nicht wirklich gut. Die Bratkartoffeln waren eher ein fettiger Kartoffelbrei und der Rest hat eher durchschnittlich geschmeckt. Am schlimmsten war der Espresso zum Abschluss. Leider einfach nur sauer und nicht trinkbar. Das Bier war gut. Die Atmosphäre und der Service auch, daher die drei Sterne.

Wir waren hier mit einer kleinen Gruppe zum Mittagessen. Trotz Reservierung (2 Wochen vorher) hat sich das Personal schwer getan uns einen Tisch zu geben, der unserem vorab angegebenen Wunsch gemäß "Seniorengeeignet" wäre ... also im Erdgeschoss und einen Platz mit Rückenlehne... das hat mit viel Diskussion ca 10 Minuten gedauert und wurde dennoch nur im Obergeschoss möglich. Danach war das Personal freundlich und engagiert, das Essen war nur okay, von Bratkartoffeln als Beilage kann man leider nicht wirklich sprechen, es war eher Kartoffelmatsch mit etwas Bräunung. Zudem leider sehr laut, aber das muss man im Brauhaus bereit sein einzugehen. Der Ärger vom Anfang hat uns leider den restlichen Tag begleitet, so war das gemeinsame Essengehen eher gedämpft als ausgelassen.

Es scheint so als wüsste das Restaurant, dass Touristen kommen, auf Grund des historischen Hintergrund und dementsprechend geben sie sich keine Mühe. Das Essen war sehr durchschnittlich und klein. Die Bratkartoffel waren nicht mal richtig gebraten. Sie haben geschmeckt wie Kartoffelbrei. Oben im Restaurant war es unfassbar warm und eng. Die Bedienung hat nicht nachgefragt, ob es schmeckt. Die Toiletten sind sehr klein und nicht besonders sauber. Das Restaurant ist für mich eine Touristenfalle. Ich werde nicht wieder kommen. Trotzdem danke für die Mühe!

Ausflug am 1. Mai nach Miltenberg, Schifffahrt auf dem Main. Sehr schön. Altstadt Besichtigung, anschließend Essen gehen im Riesen ohne Anmeldung. Tolles Angebot, Preis und Leistung stimmt. Nette Mitarbeiter.

The best inn in Miltenberg; I always come here whenever I can when I'm in town. The service is attentive and fast, the food is delicious, and the price-performance ratio is very reasonable.

It's supposed to be a traditional, family-run inn where we meet every year on an Advent Sunday. We booked almost a month in advance, but were still crammed into a table with another group, so we were practically sitting arm in arm with strangers. The service was friendly but stressed because it was completely packed, and the food was of a quality I'd never experienced before—it was reminiscent of cafeteria food, which is a shame. Next year, we'll be going to a different restaurant, one that we hope won't leave completely stressed out.

We were there on Sunday at lunchtime with four people and a dog. The staff was very friendly and we really liked the atmosphere. The side salad was very good! The schnitzel wasn't crispy and probably wasn't breaded in-house. The liver dumplings with my Miltenberger Rossäpfel (a type of apple) were a bit bland. The red cabbage had an overpowering cinnamon and clove flavor. The roast pork was tender and very tasty! The Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) were good.

A group of 25 of us visited here last night. What an amazing place full of history. The service was second to none and the food was out of this world. A traditional restaurant with excellent food quality

Located in the heart of the old town, this is a historic site. The sun 🌞 was shining, so we were able to sit outside on October 9th. The menu offered something for every taste, even for those on a tight budget 👛.

Beautiful restaurant, renovated with respect for its original character. The service was very friendly and joking. The food arrived quickly and was appetizingly presented and delicious.

We arrived in the evening shortly before the kitchen closed. The service and waitresses were exceptionally pleasant. Our food was wonderfully tasty. The ambiance and interior design of the restaurant are truly outstanding. Therefore, we were extremely satisfied and would gladly return if we had the chance.

Extremely poor service; Jessica took our drink order and didn't deliver the beer we ordered; she wasn't willing to take back the wrong beer; I ordered food: my partner received his fried salmon, and an hour later, my salad still hadn't arrived!!!! I reported it... After 15 minutes, still nothing, so I canceled the order and paid! Then she finally brought the salad! Of course, I declined again! She did offer to compensate with an espresso🥴 Tip: don't eat there!

This is our second time here because of the incredibly delicious knuckles of pork and the perfect, rustic atmosphere. The waitress, Sandra, is simply amazing—funny and very, very friendly. We'll be back because everything is just right!

The quality of the food has unfortunately declined considerably in recent years. The steak was tough, and the dark beer sauce tasted like an instant gravy. And the fried potatoes don't deserve the name. Overall, the service was completely uninspired and unimaginative, like something from a cafeteria. As a result, the prices, like everywhere else, have gone up accordingly. Only the beer was excellent. What a shame! But apparently, it's still good enough for most tourists, because without a reservation, you can't get in, at least on weekends.

Unfortunately, we expected more from the oldest inn. The food was not recommendable, quantity over quality. It was only geared toward fast-moving tourists. The service was also "always attentive," but nothing more. There are much better restaurants in town.

The service was excellent (the long wait was due to the freshness of the freshly prepared dishes and the large crowd). The prices are fair. The location is excellent and very central, and the interior is absolutely charming. The food was truly excellent. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

We had made a reservation by phone, but when we arrived, no reservation could be found! The lady told us she could only find a seat for us if we could show a written reservation! There was a free table in the beer garden, so we asked a waitress if we could sit there, and the friendly waitress said "yes." When we asked the lady at the reservation if that was okay, she said we could sit there, but the food would take a very, very long time! We had the impression that they don't want to make any sales! However, there are also some very nice and good restaurants in Miltenberg (e.g., Cafe Ginkgo, Faust Braustuben, etc.) where we had a very good meal and received very friendly service!

We had lunch at the Gasthaus Riesen with a group of 44 people. The food was excellent. Katja and her team were particularly accommodating and provided excellent service. We highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a reservation, which is highly recommended. The welcome was very friendly, and the spot was perfect for a dog. Service was excellent. The taste of the food wasn't quite up to par. The sauce was a bit too heavy, and the bread dumplings were too firm. Nevertheless, a lovely place. I can't comment on the rooms.

The seating is great. A traditional inn. It could have been if Faust Bräu, with their great beers, weren't running it. So what can I complain about? But: I'm not used to eggs with Gris sauce. Oh well, then. 35km from Frankfurt, but actually in Bavaria, depending on which side of the river you go. I still enjoyed the attempt 😏

What disappointed me, however, was the food. The schnitzels, in particular, were very reminiscent of pre-breaded frozen food – both in taste and texture. In a place with so much tradition, I would have preferred more freshness and quality. So, my open question to the kitchen: Do they actually use pre-made, frozen schnitzels – a mass-produced product??? Overall, a nice visit, but there was still a lot of room for improvement in the culinary department.

Beautiful location, right in the pedestrian zone. Hearty food. Salad plates are the only "vegetables" aside from cabbage. For such a large restaurant, there's only one small restroom on the upper floor.

On our short trip through Germany, we stumbled upon the oldest inn in the country. We were completely satisfied. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and there are also good options for vegans and vegetarians, which I'm especially pleased about. My partner really enjoyed the huge selection of beers, and the overall atmosphere was truly lovely and quaint. We'd especially like to mention the wonderful waiter who served us throughout the evening. A truly pleasant young man with a great sense of humor who does a great job. He not only gave us recommendations for good drinks but also for our leisure activities. Awesome, thank you very much!

Great service, good food at a fair price. Even though we were seated outside during the kitchen break, the friendly waitress made every effort to ensure we were able to order and eat. She did so successfully and without complaint. A heartfelt thank you for that; it makes dining out a pleasure.

My wife and I can't understand all these (in our opinion, there are many) bad reviews! We were on vacation in Miltenberg and ate and drank at the Riesen several times. We are still enchanted by the courtesy of the staff (we laughed a lot together), and the food was also very tasty. Some reviewers apparently want to be treated like royalty, but sometimes treat restaurant employees like dirt. The bottom line: What goes around comes around!!! P.S. We'd be happy to come back anytime!!

We received a friendly welcome. The dining area is quite loud, especially when guests try to act as solo entertainers. The service was friendly, but a different colleague was always in charge, and the one in charge seemed to be a beginner. He tried very hard to do things right. The food tasted good. The portion of Franconian bratwurst with fried potatoes was boiled potatoes without any seasoning, bacon, or onions. The bratwurst was more like a dwarf sausage than a giant sausage—see menu. The price/performance ratio here is not good. We can't comment on the hotel rooms.

The food was delicious, but: The plate was cold, and the meatballs were only warm, while the fried potatoes were hot. Service was a bit inattentive. Nice location and atmosphere.

We really enjoyed our meal here. We received extremely friendly service, and the cooked cheese schnitzel was fantastic. Everything was rounded off with a great selection of beers.

Restaurant denied us service because the server lied about how long we were waiting to be served. We got into argument and the manager sided with the lying server. They told us that we cant order food. My baby started crying and my pregnant wife felt sick. There were thousand ways to make this right, yet the manager decided that we cant order food. I don't remember being treated like this in any restaurant before... I don't even know if its not against the law to deny service to customers this way.
