Very nice restaurant in the middle of Wangen, good food and friendly service, absolutely recommendable

A, well... slow visit. Sitting outside is almost impossible because of the pedestrians who like to do three or four laps. Pleasant conversations are thus difficult to achieve. The service was incredibly slow, albeit always friendly. We waited about 10 minutes for the bill, only to then wait another five minutes for the card reader. If you have follow-up appointments, this place is unfortunately to be avoided. The food there was fabulous; the portions were a bit smaller, but the taste was absolutely top-notch.

On our way back to Ravensburg from an appointment in the Allgäu region, we discovered this insider tip thanks to the voucher book and were pleasantly surprised by the truly outstanding cuisine. All fresh, high-quality ingredients of the highest quality and truly delicious: the tenderloin was juicy pink, cooked to perfection, the spinach and cheese spaetzle were so delicious and all homemade, even the rösti was freshly prepared. And the value for money was excellent. The service was very friendly, always attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely return and can highly recommend this restaurant in a prime downtown location.

The only drawback: we waited 70 minutes for the food!

Not a good experience. Key points: - food took HOURS to arrive - portions were small and expensive - food was decent - service was horrible - we felt neglected We were a big group but had made a reservation. There seemed to be 3 or 4 staff for the whole restaurant (including for kitchen), which is no where near enough for the whole place. One waiter was taking all the orders. We arrived at 19:00. We ordered drinks and food immediately. Starters came after 30 min, the drinks at 19:40. The food, which was nothing complicated, mainly just käsespätzle. Our dinner arrived at 20:45, which is absurd. Guests entered at 20:00 and got food before us. The waiter was kind but really didn’t seem too bothered (throughout the whole night) about the food taking long. Then we ordered desserts, which were a. Forgotten and b. After literally an hour, Once we reminded them 3 times, yes 3 times, they said they just realised the ice cream is empty and that we had to choose a different one. Also, groups get a restricted menu instead of the normal one, which I thought a shame as some things were missing. The waiter did apologise at the end, but it is inexcusable the service and experience we had. The food wasn’t anything special and quite expensive. I know things can go wrong and it is a lot of work for few people but it is unacceptable. Compared to other places in the area, this was a really bad experience.

We had dinner in this quaint restaurant this evening and were absolutely thrilled. The service is very attentive, the atmosphere is very cozy and the food is simply wonderful. We would love to come back.

I had a pleasant visit to the Gasthaus zum Rad in Wangen im Allgäu. The food was really very good, nice and warm and tasted authentically delicious. The schnitzel and the “Rads Bauernpfännle” were particularly delicious. The drinks came quickly, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, the meal preparation time took a little longer, around 45 minutes, which somewhat spoiled the overall experience, even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. Nevertheless, I would come back to enjoy the delicious dishes!

The bike in Wangen has a long tradition and was taken over by the current owner Kathan family in autumn 2023. In the rustic, cozy atmosphere, good home-style cuisine at a high level is offered. The service staff is very helpful, attentive and super friendly! We ate the Rad's Bauernpfännchen and the Wiener-Style Schnitzel. Both were excellent and at a level that we have not experienced for a long time and at a fair price/performance ratio. We can only warmly recommend the inn and will certainly come back often.

I can only recommend this restaurant. A young team that welcomes you in such a friendly manner. I would even classify the food as fine dining. The house shows a feeling of comfort where you would like to spend a little more time. I can only recommend it and I will come here again at any time and enjoy the evening.

Ate here today. There were three of us. Waited over an hour for the food. Which was lukewarm and tasteless. Sliced ​​beef cheeks??? The sauce that came with it was...... Every sauce in the pack has more flavor. Sauerkraut was probably from a can. That's how it tasted. No laurel juniper allspice. Simply loveless. This place will never see us again.

Terrific!!! We had lunch there. We were able to choose a table. Service was very accommodating. Food was very, very good. Portions enough. Price good too. We'll definitely come back.

We ate well, in a very nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. The inn is very nicely decorated, someone has taste.

So, our visit wasn't a success. We tried to make a reservation outside - which "isn't possible". Arrived, it was “reserved” outside. When asked: “Only for friends of the boss”. Once we took a seat inside, there were free tables outside - no one said anything. The reservation of the “friends of the boss” was also inside. Ordered Ochsenbäckle and after more than an hour we "had the nerve" and asked: "Ochsenbäckle will take a while...!" Something like that - they are stewing and are actually ready, knöpfle and vegetable side dishes are no problem - and the restaurant was only 50% full. Just forgotten? What do they do when it's full? You will also be charged when you pay. The offer of a negative tip was declined. We then paid accordingly! We'll definitely test again - but this time there was room for improvement. And a lot of it! By the way, the soup (1x) and the ox cheeks (2x) were delicious. 4 out of 5 stars for that! Service communicatively underground: 1 star.

Never again! If you have reserved, you will be sent to a neighboring room. You feel like you're on a siding there. You could only eat the fries with your hand because they were extremely thin and too hard. The other dishes weren't worth their price either. We came across this small inn in Wangen by chance. It looks a bit inconspicuous from the outside, but offers excellent cuisine and friendly and courteous service. Gladly again.

The quality of the food was good, but unfortunately it wasn't seasoned enough for my taste. Fries, salad and baked rosti with asparagus can have more taste. The service was very attentive and polite, thank you very much. The atmosphere is clean, everything has been newly renovated and the charm of an old restaurant has been retained. A little more loving decoration in the window area would be nice to make it look even more cozy. But these are just my individual impressions.

Wednesday, market day in Wangen, lunch at the Rad - reservation the day before... this was also necessary because the entire restaurant was full. Very good, home-style food at fair prices: 1x beef cheeks, 1x liver meal of the day, 1x Viennese schnitzel, 3x sparkling wine orange, 2x large blackcurrant spritzer and a small beer: 71 euros. Nice, young and attentive team. Friendly service. The new tenant couple is doing everything right. Absolute recommendation. I'll definitely come back. Keep it up!

Taste wise 10/10 ... only the fried potatoes could be slightly thicker or a little less fried. Tastes slightly like chips. :) Otherwise perfect!

Super leckere bürgerliche Küche. Ambiente ist wie man sich ein traditionelles Gasthaus vorstellt, einfach aber mit Charm. Personal war sehr schnell, doch nicht aufmerksam. Alles in allem eine klare Empfehlung für gut bürgerliche Küche.

Das Restaurant war voll besetzt. Entsprechend war der Lärmpegel sehr hoch. Die Unterhaltung leidet, man geht dann lieber.

Einen gemütlichen Abend verbracht und sehr lecker gegessen. Ein altei gesessener Gasthof mit neuem Besitzer. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und kommen wieder.

Der Inhaberwechsel gilt als absolut gelungen zu werten; als kulinarische Bereicherung in Wangen zur Kenntnis zu nehmen. Eingängige, klassisch geltende Speisen werden auf den Punkt zubereitet; beim Gast ein MEGA Geschmackserlebnis ausgelöst. Reservierung ist in jedem Fall anzuraten.

Wir waren vergangene Woche seit der Neueröffnung zum ersten mal im Rad. Eine kleine aber feine Auswahl aus gutbürgerlichen Gerichten, ergänzt von tollen Herbstangeboten finden sich auf der Karte im gemütlichen Gastraum. Der Service ist jung und freundlich. Unser Essen war durchweg sehr lecker, hervorragender Qualität und reichlich. (ein Lob an den Inhaber, der hier selbst Küchenchef ist!). Da wir so begeistert waren, haben wir ein paar Tage später, als wir an Wangen vorbei fuhren, direkt noch einmal einen Zwischenstopp zum Abendessen gemacht. Es wird nicht der letzte Besuch gewesen sein. Viel Erfolg dir weiterhin, lieber Manuel, mit deinem Team!

Ich bin seit der Eröffnung schon 2 mal dagewesen, super Service. Alle sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen, jedesmal ausgezeichnet. Für mich beinahe zu große Portionen. Ich habe beim letzten Besuch Fisch gegessen, es war ein Traum, so was von lecker 😋. Das Gasthaus selbst mit sehr viel Liebe dekoriert, wirkt sehr einladend und gemütlich. Mein Fazit, es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall auch von Tettnang dorthin zu fahren. Macht weiter so...

Es hat und sprachlos gemacht, in was für eine tolle Wirtschaft wir hier gelandet sind. 1.) Obwohl die Küche schließlich wollte haben wir noch essen erhalten. (mindestens 10 Absagen von anderen Gaststätten erhalten.) 2.) Super leckeres Essen und das können wir beurteilen, da mein Mann selbst Koch ist und viele Jahre Erfahrung hat. 3.) Und der Hammer noch dazu, vom Servicepersonal bis zum Koch ( der der Inhaber ist) alle so unglaublich zuvorkommend und nett. Wir waren 4 Personen und wollen und nochmals recht herzlich bedanken, wir werden wiederkommen und jedem unsere positive Erfahrungen mitteilen. Sehr leckeres Essen und es gibt noch selbst gemachte Spätzle

Eigentlich ein nettes Gasthaus, in dem wir im Rahmen eines Stadtbesuchs als größere Gruppe einkehrten. Mit meinen Essen "Saure Linsen mit Saitenwürstel und Spätzle" war ich durchaus zufrieden und nachher auch satt. Eine andere Person bestellte das "Schweineschnitzel natur, mit Rahmsoße und Spätzle". Auch wenn da nicht ausdrücklich ein kleiner Salat dazugehört, sollte man doch mehr Dekoration erwarten dürfen als nur ein winziges Zweiglein Petersilie und einen Span Mohrrübe. Leider ist auch im "Rad" die grobe Unsitte eingezogen, keinerlei Speise- oder Getränkekarten auf den Tischen auszulegen. Fragt man nicht ausdrücklich danach, bestellt man seine Getränke praktisch "im Blindflug". Wobei man sich nachher womöglich über eine hohe Rechnung wundert. Das führt hier zum Abzug eines weiteren Sterns. Noch etwas sollte man beachten: Wie in fast allen Gasthäusern ist auch im "Rad" die akustische Situation im Inneren abgrundtief schlecht. Bis auf ein paar Gardinen an den Fenstern gibt es keinerlei schalldämmende Maßnahmen. Wer auf die Nutzung von Hörgeräten angewiesen ist, hat keine Chance auf eine verständliche Unterhaltung mit den Tischnachbarn. Dabei könnte in jeder dieser Gaststätten durch Schallabsorber für Abhilfe gesorgt werden.

Ein sehr tolles Restaurant in der Innenstadt von Wangen. Leider nicht mehr lange 😪 Wer nochmal super lecker essen möchte soll die Chance noch nutzen !!! Die inhaber-Familie war immer herzlich und man schmeckt hier, dass der Chef seinen Titel in der Küche verdient hat.

Nettes, gut bürgerliches Lokal. Die Bedienung war etwas seltsam, aber nicht unfreundlich. Der Chef hat sich persönlich verabschiedet von uns.
