The coffee was good, but the waitress didn't come until after we'd finished ours to ask if we wanted anything else. Furthermore, it's not mentioned anywhere that card payments are only accepted for orders over €10. Neither the restaurant, the menu, nor the staff themselves mention this when ordering. Furthermore, the waitress can't wait when translating from another language; she simply interrupts the conversation instead of waiting for what was agreed upon.

We were here for breakfast a week ago... there was a good selection of food and drinks... we really liked the whole ambiance... there's a large outdoor area with a view of the greenery... Next door, you can go to the adjacent wildlife park... it's a delight for children and adults alike... you should definitely check it out!

For the concept of a day-trip restaurant, it deserves five stars; as a "real" restaurant, four would be justified. It all depends on your own expectations, and at the same time, it must always be viewed from the perspective of the gastronomic concept. The selection of dishes on the menu and the beer, which is quite exclusive in our area, are good. The dish I had was above average, and the service was prompt and very friendly. The ambience is tasteful and clearly structured. Minor deductions would have to be made for the really poor acoustics and the numerous flies. Overall, a very solid place to stop after a Sunday outing to the adjacent zoo.

Beautiful terrace, but the atmosphere inside is more like a waiting room. Service was good and attentive; we had ice cream, which could have been better...poor value for money: for just under €7, we got two scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, and a bit of "triplet"...disappointing. Update from June 2025: Dinner wasn't great, but it was good. You can also get some snacks. Good value for money.

After our long visit to the Anholter Schweiz Wildlife Park, we were thrilled to take a break at the AlmRuhe Inn. We sat comfortably on the sun terrace, refreshed ourselves with a delicious draft beer and coffee. Each of us also enjoyed a delicious ice cream. The staff was very friendly, and everything came quickly. We weren't hungry today. But next time we'll eat there, too. The food looked delicious at the other tables and smelled tempting. And the prices were reasonable, too. Everything was clean, and the interior was very inviting.

Three of us had breakfast here, and all three were thrilled. We had let us know in advance that one of us was vegan, and the team specially put together a fantastic selection and brought it to our table. Everything was delicious, and the service was extremely friendly and accommodating. We'll definitely be back.

My wife and I stopped by after a good three hours at the wildlife park. We sat outside in the sunny weather. We were greeted very warmly by the staff. We ordered food and drinks. It was delicious. We highly recommend the ambiance, including the food and everything that goes with it. Thank you very much.

The four of us had a very good meal here after a bike ride yesterday. I can really recommend the fried chicken with the warm potato salad. It was crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside 🤤. The portions were plentiful. A little too big for me, but the rest was packed well for me to take with me. Even with a nice personal greeting on the packaging. The service was also very good and friendly. We felt completely comfortable and would love to come back!

Clear menu, but something for every lover of Alpine cuisine. The food was very tasty and quickly on the table. Very nicely prepared. The atmosphere is cozy. The staff friendly and attentive.

We are absolutely thrilled! We were very satisfied with our last visit a few years ago, but I had no idea how fantastic this restaurant really is. We sat on the beautiful terrace in bright sunshine and the very friendly service looked after us quickly and attentively. The menu offers an excellent selection and the prices are more than fair - sometimes even very reasonable. We quickly found something we liked and both the drinks and food came surprisingly quickly. My husband chose the roast pork while I chose the ox cheeks. The portions were huge and at a truly unbeatable price. But the best was yet to come: the quality and preparation of the dishes far exceeded our expectations. Simply fantastic! This restaurant is really top class. What particularly surprised us was that it was located next to the zoo - an area where you often find mediocre food that seems to take advantage of the park's hungry guests. I absolutely cannot understand the negative comments about this restaurant. As experienced guests who regularly eat in upscale restaurants, we can judge the quality of the food very well. Here you could immediately tell that everything was homemade and seasoned to perfection. The red cabbage was an absolute dream, completely different to the usual jarred products. The dumplings were wonderfully soft and juicy, and the sweet potato puree had just the right consistency. The ox cheeks were tender as butter and the sauce was a true masterpiece. The roast pork was so incredibly crispy that my husband actually broke a piece of his tooth - which of course was because he wasn't careful enough when biting into the sensational crust. But that just shows how perfect the crust was! Of course that was his fault, so no reason to complain. In short: we can only warmly recommend this restaurant!

October 29th, 2024 around 1:15 p.m.: unfortunately we received extremely unfriendly service here. We just felt like coffee and cake that day. We were told that this was home-style cooking and it gave the strong impression that we were unwelcome. There were 3 different cakes and 1 muffin to choose from. When we asked for something other than cake, the waitresses' mood was already in the basement. When I asked about her behavior, she immediately apologized, but it was still a “no go” in the restaurant! Today was our last time in this location, where we have often had lunch or dinner.

We have rarely eaten as well as we did in this restaurant. The map is extremely well developed. Very good selection of dishes without being overwhelmed by the sheer number. The price is absolutely reasonable for what you get (almost cheap) We were here with a stroller and got a table for 6 with 4 people so we had enough space. The atmosphere is beautiful and the service was also super friendly. We would love to come back, even if we live a little further away.

Yesterday we took advantage of the perfect weather for a walk through the wildlife park. Afterwards we sat down in the restaurant for a meal. It was just so delicious!!!! The restaurant impresses with its furnishings, very inviting and cozy. The staff was extremely friendly, personable and attentive. The food was a culinary delight, every component on the plates tasted very good, absolute recommendation! We come from Bottrop and will definitely come back, even without a walk through the wildlife park, just to eat delicious food ☺️

We were in the restaurant with 8 people on Sunday. The order has been taken and the drinks have been brought. So far so good. Then the starter came for two people, soup was okay. An hour later we asked the waitress when the food would come. She didn't say anything other than stammering that something went wrong. I think the service staff failed completely. She didn't even ask us for drinks during the entire hour, nor did she understand that people who ordered after us got food before us. Sorry, I'll avoid the restaurant.

Today we were a small party of 10 people on the occasion of my husband's birthday. The place is awesome. We had super friendly and fast service. The food came quickly and everyone enjoyed it very much. The delicious cakes were also highly praised. All in all a successful afternoon.

The AlmRuhe inn is located directly at the Anholter Schweiz animal park. You can only get to the restaurant, but also from the zoo to the restaurant. The ambience is nice, there is a huge antler chandelier hanging in the restaurant. I ate a mini pork knuckle with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. I really enjoyed the menu. The knuckle in particular was well prepared! The crust is crispy, the meat is juicy! The service was very friendly and people regularly asked for drinks. I'll definitely be back!

Was there after a visit to Isselburg, through a recommendation from local Isselburgers. The recommendation was worth it, the food was very appealing and delicious! Thank you ! As a good dish I recommend: ox cheeks with rosemary potatoes on ratatouille vegetables. Image is attached.

How surprised was I, so close and never been there and so great. I'll put a photo of the Wiener Schnitzel with warm potato salad, I like that. We sat outside in nice weather, but the interior also invites you to linger.

Went there for dinner today. Service was great, food too, but try Reiberdatschi with a mustard dill sauce from Culinaria instead of herb quark. Goes much better with salmon, just a suggestion. The ambience can still be improved. Too minimalistic and too large, it lacks coziness. Room dividers might be a way to bring more atmosphere into the large room. We'll definitely come back because you're all so nice there🤩👍

The cuisine is not really Mediterranean...and unfortunately expensive.

We were there today with our daycare group (16 children) to eat fries after a lovely morning in the wildlife park. It was really nice. By registering in advance, a table was set up where everyone had space. There was plenty of fries, mayonnaise and ketchup and the children were allowed to drink their own drinks. Very friendly

Of course it's not a must, you can also just have a delicious meal here, but a family trip to the adjacent Anholter Schweiz wildlife park followed by or beforehand a stop at the Gasthaus Alm Ruhe is a very well-rounded experience!

Been there at lunchtime and evening after visiting the park. Eat Drink Seevice. Everything was absolutely perfect down to the last detail. We had been in the Allgäu for a week before and I never got the Maultaschen soup that well there. Absolute recommendation outside and inside.

The AlmRuhe inn is a place of comfort. The venison burger was a delight and a treat! Many thanks to the chef! The ladies and gentlemen from the service were very nice and friendly and brought drinks and food to the table quickly. Here the guest is truly king!

Such a great restaurant! We are happy to be there often, whether as a couple, with friends, family or even as a birthday party with larger groups. Always an experience and every time the people who are there for the first time are thrilled. Food is very tasty, high quality and large portions, prices are reasonable, very friendly and attentive service and, last but not least, the harmonious atmosphere in the countryside - sometimes with the peacock walking across the terrace. We really enjoyed staying here in the past. This time too the cake looked very tempting. But a note to couples. If there are two people, you will be asked to sit at one of the smaller and less attractive tables. There were still many tables free. We understand hospitality to be something different.

Freunde hatten uns dieses Lokal empfohlen. Das Lokal, direkt an einem Tierpark und am Schloß Anholt gelegen, liegt in einem Waldgebiet. Von dem Lokal war ich angenehm überrascht. Das Essen war sehr gut und reichlich. Die Bedienung sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Für mich ein Grund mal öfter hier zu speisen.

Uncomfortable excursion restaurant with no atmosphere and completely overpriced food that is supposed to convey the Bavarian way of life. Weisswurst half the size of an original. Obatzda that tastes like nothing at all. All convenience quality. We tried it but won't be coming back. Service good. Toilet is very well maintained. The best thing was the freshly baked pretzels Charging 80 cents for a little more mustard was the absolute highlight. In any case, the landlord reacted quickly. I guess I just ordered the wrong thing. Just for comparison: In the most famous pub in the world, the Munich Hofbräuhaus, a few large white sausages as a main course cost €7.20 with sweet mustard “while stocks last.” A fresh pretzel costs €2.10, making a total of €9.30. The Obatzda homemade from brie, butter and paprika €12.50 with fresh farmer's bread.

A chic restaurant with delicious food. When it's busy, it's also pretty loud. The view from the window into Anholt Switzerland is very beautiful. When the weather is good you can sit outside on the terrace. According to the menu, some dishes are gluten-free. We haven't tested it yet.

Very nice inn with a very nice atmosphere. I ate a pork schnitzel with paprika sauce and fries. I can only say 1 a. For dessert, a piece of cheese cream cake. Very good. The service is also excellent. This inn is absolutely recommended.

Crusty roast, beer sauce, dumplings and cabbage tasted great, just like on the mountain pasture on our last vacation! Only the typical Lower Rhine weather wasn't quite right to create a holiday feeling.

Went here with a group for breakfast on Sunday. Very well attended and yet the buffet was always well stocked. Service staff quick and friendly.

At the window only for groups... We wanted to stop here with the family after our visit to the adjacent zoo in the early afternoon. After we sat down at the last available window seat, we were politely but firmly directed away with a reference to hypothetically arriving groups. References from us to various other free group tables and the fact that families with small children prefer seats in the peripheral area because of the utensils and don't stay long after eating anyway were not accepted. We took the opportunity to put our jackets back on and look for a more hospitable restaurant.

Very diverse, good offer but once was cheap. I think €21.50 per person for breakfast is quite steep. The positive thing is that unlimited coffee comes with it for free.

Nach einem Besuch der Biotopwildparks wollten wir uns kurz aufwärmen, haben uns aber schnell für ein Mittagessen entschieden. Meine Wahl fiel auf Cordon Bleu, weil dieser mit Bergkäse zubereitet wird und mich neugierig gemacht hat. Einfach ein Gedicht! Meine Frau entschied sich zum Wildburger. Mit einer Preiselbeermayonaise! Die einfachen, aber anderen Zutaten sind für mich entscheidend und wurden hervorragend umgesetzt. Dazu eine sehr zuvorkommende nette Kellnerin hat es perfekt gemacht. Wir kommen garantiert wieder!

Das Restaurant "Almruhe" liegt direkt neben der "Anholter Schweitz" (einem Wildpark mit 6 km Wanderwegen und etwa 50 Tierarten in natürlicher Umgebung) und ist seit einem Jahr geöffnet. Da mehrere Bekannte dieses Restaurant lobten und uns einen Gutschein gaben, beschlossen wir, hier zu Mittag zu essen. Das Restaurant und die Küche sind bis zum 1. November ab 11:00 Uhr geöffnet. (Ab dem 2. November wird das 12:00 Uhr sein.) also perfekt für ein Lunch. Die Einrichtung des Restaurants ist ländlich mit einem modernen Touch und offensichtlich von jemandem mit einem wunderbaren Sinn für Humor gestaltet. Ich habe sehr gelacht über die witzige aber elegante Schilder. Die Atmosphäre ist angenehm und die Aussicht auf den nahe gelegenen Wildpark und den Wald ist beruhigend und schön. Die Speisekarte ist klein, bietet aber für jeden etwas. Von kleinen Gerichten, die als Vorspeise gegessen werden können, bis hin zu typischen Wirtshausklassikern wie Schnitzel, Leberkäse oder Käsespätzle. Wir entschieden uns für das Tatar vom Almrind und den Obatzda, gefolgt vom Hütten Cordon Bleu und die Trüffelschwein Pommes. Die Teller waren schön angerichtet und die meisten Gerichte haben uns sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Pommes schmeckten sehr gut nach Trüffel, aber die Sauce war für meinen Geschmack zu süß. Das ist aber sehr persönlich und kann nicht der Küche angelastet werden. Jedoch deswegen trotzdem vier Sterne, statt fünf. Meine Bemerkung darüber wurde übrigens von unserer freundlichen und professionellen Kellnerin sehr angemessen abgehandelt. Es freut mich sehr, mal einen Restaurant in Deutschland zu treffen wo man Kundenservice wirklich groß Schreibt und versteht. Für mich und mein Mann ist es klar: wir werden bestimmt wieder kommen.

Hello, first I would like to highlight the positive experiences. Good parking options. The ambience is warm, inviting and offers a great view of the wildlife park. The staff had a lot to do as all the seats were occupied. The service remained friendly and helpful when spoken to. Coffee, tea, apple and orange juice, water and sparkling wine as much as you want. Small dessert buffet with delicacies. The breakfast buffet was nicely prepared. Now to the less good experiences. According to the family group, the price-performance ratio was unfortunately not at all good. The breakfast buffet was very manageable for a price of €19.50. Children here pay €1 per age. Hardly any labels on the buffet. The rolls (2 types) were baked rolls and soft like bread, not crispy at all. Unfortunately, some dishes were cold. You pay extra for cappuccino and latte macchiato here. Conclusion: everything is a process. Criticism should continue to be accepted as a suggestion for improvement, as long as it is of course expressed objectively and comprehensibly.

Great place to eat and stay, we were there with a group and had a delicious meal. You can go to the park from the restaurant “Anholter Schweiz” The concept is something different compared to the surrounding restaurants. The only drawback is that the background noise was unfortunately a bit loud and restless.

Coffee and cake were good, service in the restaurant was very friendly. But we almost left straight away because, as cyclists, a lady (senior boss?) very rudely told us in front of the entrance that we should leave our bikes in the bike rack at the back. You shouldn't greet guests in such an unfriendly manner.

The Gasthof AlmRuhe in Anholt is highly recommended. The service is great, the staff is very friendly and always approachable. The food is very good. The menu is Bavarian and corresponds to what you would expect from the inn name. The menu offers something for every taste. Vegetarians can also find delicious food here. Dogs are allowed, which is important to us. The staff asks if the dog needs water, which is great! There is a minimal reduction in volume. Due to the beautiful high ceilings etc. it is a bit louder in places. We always like to come back!

Wir haben ewig gewartet bis mal jemand zu uns an den Tisch kam - und es waren nur 3 andere Tische besetzt. Dann bekamen wir unsere Getränke - und - wieder ewig gewartet, bis dann jemand die Kuchenbestellung aufnahm. Wir wollten dann noch was kühles trinken....kam wieder niemand. Die Bedienungen liefen -zig Mal an unserem Tisch vorbei...unsere Teller und Tassen leer, es hat aber keiner gefragt, ob wir noch etwas verzehren möchten. Schlechte Bedienung, schlechter Service....und alles teuer! Nie wieder...
