Super delicious food and a beautiful view of the lake. A playground for the kids right next door.

In a beautiful setting with a homey atmosphere and very attentive staff, we enjoyed a delicious wild herb salad with goat's cheese and veal schnitzel, albeit with a subtle restraint. The Kaiserschmarren for dessert was the icing on the cake. All in all, highly recommended.

We visited twice during our vacation. The service was always very friendly. The restaurant is very lovingly decorated. We would be happy to return.

Very tasty and cozy. Reservations are recommended, though. Expect a somewhat longer wait time. So don't let it spoil your mood; the delicious food will make up for it.

The restaurant is open until 10:00 PM, and hot meals are supposed to be served until 9:00 PM. However, the kitchen closes at 8:45 PM, and there are no hot meals left. We were turned away. The two of us would have liked to have had a schnitzel each.

Unfortunately, I have to report a thoroughly disappointing experience, one that fell far short of the expectations raised by the beautiful view of the lake and the inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. Our visit on August 17, 2025, was characterized by long waits from the very beginning. Although the restaurant didn't even seem to be at full capacity, it took an unusually long time for our order to be taken. The service seemed overwhelmed, distracted, and anything but attentive. The main disaster came with the food. The wait for the main courses was well over two hours. Such waits are difficult to convey, especially when you're sitting there with hungry guests or children. When the food finally arrived—and unfortunately already lukewarm—the disappointment was complete: The **"Homemade Schnitzel"** was tough, dry, and tasted anything but fresh. The **"Fresh Chanterelles"** as a soup and side dish were mushy and bland, obviously from the freezer. The pasta for the children's dishes was bland, and the "tomato sauce" was beyond inedible. The quality of the food seemed cheap and carelessly prepared. This is absolutely unacceptable for the high prices charged here. When we tried to politely point out the problems, we were met with indifference. There was no apology or attempt to defuse the situation (perhaps with dessert or a free drink). **Conclusion:** The name "Freilich am See" promises freedom and enjoyment. What we get, however, is imprisonment in long waits, admittedly very poor cuisine, and service that lacks any charm. The potential of the place is enormous, but the execution is a complete disappointment. We will not be returning and unfortunately cannot recommend a visit to anyone at this time.

We've eaten there several times now, both as a couple and with the kids, and we can highly recommend the place. Sitting outside on the terrace overlooking the lake, enjoying a good meal and cool drinks, what more could you want? The only downside is that they don't serve Almdudler 😉

Without a star, we visited this restaurant a very long time ago, but after I got almost raw potatoes with my schnitzel, we will never visit this place again.

I was here for the first time today – what a lovely place! The salad was delicious, but I waited over an hour for it. I recommend the restaurant, but you should ask how long it will take to prepare 😉

The food and the location are magical , but the lady on the bar was not so friendly, maybe we came at 8:30, on google maps shows that it closed at 22:00 , she was like you need to order very quickly since the kitchen close at 21:00, which worth to mention otherwise i would come on other day

A beautiful location by the lake, very attentive staff, and Bavarian dishes in the beer garden. Always worth a visit. Unfortunately, we weren't as satisfied during a visit this year in 2025. Among the dishes, we missed the knuckle of pork and the roast beef with onions, which were always a reason to visit. The current menu, with its selection of dishes, doesn't appeal to us for another visit. The restrooms used to be very clean, too. Unfortunately, that can't be said anymore. Today, only air dryers hang on the counter, and only the peelings of the paper remain on the counter.

The ambiance is perfectly fine, but unfortunately, in my opinion, the price-performance ratio isn't good. The prices are a bit excessive.

Incredibly stylish beach restaurant. We arrived at Freilich late Sunday afternoon without a reservation. An extremely friendly waiter nevertheless made an effort to find us a seat among the many reserved tables. The food: pleasantly varied, reasonably priced, if not cheap, but lovingly prepared, and served relatively quickly. The overall ambiance is dreamy and inviting. Only the music (their own DJ in the pavilion next to the outdoor dining area) could use a few dB less to make for more pleasant conversation. The interior of the restaurant is dignified and tastefully decorated, with a certain affinity for Scandinavian design resonating throughout the entire ensemble. The restrooms are exceptionally tastefully designed and a model of cleanliness, even exceeding many other good restaurant restrooms by a considerable margin (I had to mention that, as it's truly above the norm!). Despite their demanding workload, the staff always seems to be friendly, charming, and attentive to guests. A welcome exception, especially in such rather hip tourist destinations!

I had to wait almost two hours for my food. The chanterelles were cold and the potatoes were burnt. It's a real shame! The service was polite, though.

This is a fantastic restaurant right at Scharmützelsee. The staff is highly attentive, the kitchen serves very solid Bavarian food and the property is amazing. Highly recommended for families as the kids have a wonderful playing area outside.

When making the reservation, the first comment was that the kitchen closes at 9 p.m. and that we should be there by 8 p.m. at the latest. With every order and reorder, the limited time we were allowed was repeatedly referred to. How can this GDR charm of service be genetically passed on to subsequent generations of service employees? When a colleague asked for a piece of cake after 9 p.m., which was visible in a display case, he was told that the kitchen was closed. So, you're not allowed to open the refrigerator door after 9 p.m., even though no personal touch was required to prepare it. It's a shame. This place actually has everything you need to have a good time. However, the lack of guests during the presumed peak season in July is perhaps not unfounded. The food was good overall. The prices, however, were rather high. Considered together with the service, the overall package was unfortunately inadequate. Overall, the staff was very nice. Unfortunately, the audio track was always accompanied by strange service refusal texts.

A great shop where everything is just right! However, you can't get anything to eat at 3 p.m. on Sundays during peak season, which is completely incomprehensible for a "tourist restaurant."

Unfortunately, the visit did not meet our expectations. The arrangements made in advance for a 90th birthday party (18 people) were not met. The menu was straightforward, but then at least everything had to be available – it wasn't. The wait time was far too long. Reservation at 12:00 p.m., food served at 1:40 p.m.; the restaurant was busy at the same time, so the two people serving the food were slightly overwhelmed.

We only had one slice of cake on Sunday afternoon; there were two flavors to choose from. The service was very attentive and friendly, and the outdoor lighting provided a stunning view of the lake.

Den Punkt gibt es für die nette Bedienung und für die Forelle, sowie das Kindergericht. Kalbsschnitzel bekommt einen halben Punkt, die zwei kleinen Schnitzen liessen keinen Rückschluss auf die Fleischart zu, bei einem war gar nicht ersichtlich, dass es Fleisch war, dafür viel Panade, absolut unter der Gürtellinie, dafür der Preis von 34 Euro, für hochwertiges Essen bezahle ich auch gerne mal einen höheren Preis, aber das geht gar nicht, ich bin enttäuscht und kann keinem raten dort einzulegen, leider 🤷‍♂️

Here I'm describing the small snack bar belonging to Freilich, right next to the restaurant. The ambiance is nice, no question. The service was also good; they made an effort and were friendly. But the food is abysmal, considering the prices. The advertised fries cost €6.50 and were called "Crispy Fries" according to the advertisement. The version photographed was the second attempt, after I complained about the first soggy fries. Even the second version, after having taken the first version to the chef, was still not crispy. I find that pretty outrageous when you pay €6.50 for fries. My partner had a Caesar salad, the same size bowl, for €12. That, too, is a grossly inflated price policy for poor quality, since the change of management. I can no longer recommend it.

We went to a table at 2:30 p.m. to have a bite to eat and a drink. After being ignored for a full 15 minutes, we were then told at 2:45 p.m. whether we knew that the kitchen was closed from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., meaning we couldn't order any hot food. This was communicated to us very rudely and actually before the kitchen had taken a break. We then just ordered a drink and a Kaiserschmarn. The Kaiserschmarn was abysmally bad. It was swimming in fat and tasted of nothing. Even after pointing out that it was inedible, there was not even an apology. In general, the service was very bad, unfriendly, and extremely slow. Other tables also waited a long time for drinks and complained about this, again with no response.

The food (the soup was sour) didn't match the price. Service was OK. The location and ambiance were good.

We spontaneously visited one weekday afternoon. The restaurant was practically empty, with only two or three additional tables being taken on the beautifully situated terrace. Directly in front of it is a beautiful beach with a lawn, mini golf, and a playground. The service was very friendly, and the food was delicious. 👍 The menu was VERY limited, with limited choices. But it was still delicious and beautifully presented (special requests for the menu were no problem). The interior of the restaurant is absolutely stunning; it would be perfect for a wedding venue.

Friendly staff and a very pleasant ambiance awaited us. There was almost no trace of Bavarian food. Beef soup, which was on the menu, was unavailable. Just as last year, pork knuckle wasn't available, it wasn't even on the menu. The menu doesn't really reflect any Bavarian dishes. What a shame!

I truly recommend this restaurant. It's located in a park-like setting at a bathing spot right on the lake. You'll receive a super-friendly welcome as soon as you enter. The ambiance is very tasteful, and the entire decor is harmoniously arranged. A place that truly invites you to linger. And then the food...the menu is balanced, not overly opulent. You notice the origins, and that's good. The dishes were very tasty and lovingly prepared. And there was plenty. As a dessert fanatic, I definitely recommend the Kaiserschmarrn. It's a poem. The service was extremely attentive and pleasant. All in all, every detail at Freilichs is just right. We felt very comfortable and will definitely be back.

We had lunch at "Freilich am See" and had a thoroughly pleasant visit. Due to the cool weather, we were the first guests – but the service was immediately attentive, very friendly, and professional. The veal schnitzel with potato salad (€34) was excellently prepared – tender, crispy, and delicious! The vegan dish with edamame, falafel balls, and vegetables (€22) was creative and delicious, if a bit too salty for our taste. The Prosecco was also excellent. The ambiance is impressive, with lots of wood and a cozy, warm atmosphere. In good weather, the direct lakeside location is certainly a real highlight ;-)

Wir waren für ein gemütliches Mittagessen zum Geburtstag meines Partners mit Freunden aus Berlin verabredet. Aus eigentlich 2 geplanten Stunden wurden insgesamt 5 Stunden. Wir haben draußen gesessen und obwohl die Männer sich mit dem Sonnenschirm uneinig waren und dieser mehrmals geöffnet und geschlossen wurde, waren die Kellner mehr als freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir waren nicht zum ersten Mal hier, sondern wählen dieses Lokal sehr oft, aufgrund des tollen Service und der leckeren Speisen.

The real Wiener Schnitzel has been replaced by pork schnitzel, many wines are missing, and the menu seems inconsistent and lacking in concept. Last week we spontaneously went to Bad Saarow with our family. We were looking for a place to have lunch and stopped at Freilich to play mini golf. The place was very well maintained and so we stayed there for lunch. Very nice service. The food was very tasty and our 3 children loved it. We can only recommend the restaurant. Nice location and great interior design. The waitress doesn't see you, even if you answer. After 15 minutes I had to go ahead and take the card myself. It also took a while to be able to place an order. Mom had trout - the tail was raw, the body was fried. It was borderline where raw ends and where you could eat. Fish was also bland. Cucumber salad and the wheat beer had a strange taste. My schnitzel was forgotten, but the taste was okay. My potatoes for the schnitzel were overcooked and tasteless. Asparagus and hollondaise sauce were good. All in all, we were full but not happy. Too bad.

For a long time it was a really excellent restaurant in Bad Saarow, but since the redesign and takeover it has been a total failure. The staff doesn't belong in a restaurant in this price range. Apart from the wine, absolutely nothing tasted good, the salad was from the fresh food counter in the supermarket, the asparagus, which was cooked way too hard, could have broken a window and in a blind tasting it would have passed for carrots. When the obligatory question was asked as we were clearing away whether it was tasty and we legitimately expressed criticism, this was acknowledged with a tired smile. Funnily enough, my friend had food poisoning the next day. (We suspect the fish) But that was the perfect conclusion to not eating there again in the future, not recommending it and also warmly advising every reader against it.

We had a very good meal here today!!! Since it's asparagus season, we also tried the asparagus menu and weren't disappointed! Delicious asparagus cream soup and white asparagus with salmon. Delicious!!! The staff was also very friendly and accommodating!!! We would love to come back!!!

The Freilich am See is changing from “Artprojekt” to “Mein Zeit AG” with the promise that the guest will not notice the change at all. As loyal guests, we wanted to test it out right away. Nothing could go wrong because we also know and really appreciate the “Mein Zeit” hotels and restaurants in Diensdorf and Schlepzig. What we love about “Freilich” is the ambience and the very friendly staff, who give the guest a feeling of being special and at the same time create a personal and warm atmosphere for and around the guest. Our last visit on April 11, 2025 actually showed that the extraordinary ambience and the excellent staff have remained with us. However, when we looked at the current menu, we were downright shocked! Where has the typical Bavarian cuisine gone, which has been the main reason for our numerous visits to Freilich? The announcement in the media provides clarification: "We want to reinterpret Bavarian cuisine, make it modern and varied. Because with us, the typical delicacies are expanded and reinvented with regional and seasonal products." There isn't much left of the typical delicacies. Instead, chickpea soup, curry hummus, tzatziki, black olives, edamame falafel and kimchi appear on the menu. I was a bit lucky that there was also a knuckle as a special dish. Without my beloved black beer sauce, however, the knuckle was only partially comparable to the previous delicious experiences at Freilich. My wife always raved about the bread dumplings with mushrooms and the Bavarian meatloaf prepared in the classic Bavarian style. None of this remained on the new map! What would a real Bavarian say about that? Would a chef with this concept be able to survive in Bavaria? Bavarian cuisine was not “reinterpreted” here, but rather massacred. Unfortunately, we can only recommend the ambience and the staff, but not the food. Our conclusion: As long as this new concept remains in place, we will with a heavy heart refrain from visiting. We can also enjoy oriental dishes such as chickpeas, kimchi or hummus in specialty restaurants. Our appeal: The original Bavarian cuisine has done the Freilich good and has proven to attract many guests. Please stay an original Bavarian restaurant and don't try to do what many do very little well!

Das Freilich der Vergangenheit war ein wunderbares Restaurant mit tollen bayerisch/österreichischen Schmankerln; jetzt stehen mehr als „einfache“ Gerichte auf der Karte! Was echt fehlt sind das Beef-Tartar, das echte Wiener Schnitzel und die Haxe Sehr,sehr schade! Eine 5 ***** Bewertung gilt jedoch dem Servicepersonal ! Thomas

I left Freilich today disappointing. The salad wasn't available from the menu because it wasn't delivered, okay. Beef soup was also not available and no explanation was given as to why. Sausage salad can be ordered, but it's an absolute disappointment! Dry, only cut from meat loaf, the cheese is minimal and the red onions are completely missing. Unfortunately, the employees are not understanding and do not take the complaint seriously. It's a shame, the visit is over, but it's been removed from my list.

Wir lieben dieses Restaurant und sind in den letzten Jahren mindestens einmal im Monat hier gewesen – immer, um ein echtes Wiener Schnitzel zu genießen. Umso größer war heute die Überraschung (und Enttäuschung), als wir festgestellt haben, dass das Wiener-Schnitzel von der Karte verschwunden ist! Offenbar hat die neue Bewirtschaftung entschieden, es durch ein einfaches Schweinsschnitzel zu ersetzen. Bitte – wie kommt man auf so eine Idee? Trotzdem muss man sagen: Die neue Karte ist insgesamt gut gelungen, mit vielen spannenden vegetarischen und veganen Optionen. Aber das Wiener Schnitzel zu streichen, ist ein klarer Fauxpas. Es war für viele Gäste – uns eingeschlossen – ein Markenzeichen des Hauses. Wir hoffen sehr, dass diese Entscheidung rückgängig gemacht wird. Sonst geht ein Stück der Identität dieses schönen Lokals verloren. Service und Ambiente wie immer top – daran hat sich zum Glück nichts geändert.

Very nice Bavarian restaurant set right next to the lake. Seating outside as well as inside. Small children's play area and mini golf, so you can come here anytime of day with or without children. Food was very well prepared from a very Bavarian focused selection. Well worth the visit if you are in the local area. Can also swim in the lake if you are brave enough!

Also, the meat on my plate was a large cube – visually appealing, but it would have been more pleasant to eat sliced. Overall, a great restaurant with great food and very good service. Wir waren am 25.12.2025 mit der ganzen Familie hier,10 Personen und gehen zusammen immer an Weihnachten essen und immer woanders.Das ganze Ambiente sehr schön und zum wohlfühlen.Der Tisch war auch hübsch eingedeckt und der Service war sehr nett.Leider hat hat uns die Vorsuppe nicht geschmeckt,sie war lauwarm und hat nach Instant geschmeckt und Gänseklein und Wurzelgemüse war kaum drin,obwohl so beschrieben.Der Rosenkohlsalat war lecker,aber wenig.Gänsebrust war ok,nur der Rotkohl total süß und zuviel Zimt und der Nachtisch,mhh naja das Vanilleeis hat sehr künstlich geschmeckt.Fazit,wir haben für 59€ p.P.ohne Getränke mehr erwartet u waren enttäuscht.

Yes, nice location and good food

We took part in an event here, curling. First we played outside with mulled wine and an exquisite snack, then we made ourselves comfortable inside. The service was again top notch, from reservations to reception and management throughout the day. The offering was small (outside with beef broth, pretzels, bratwurst), but it fit the event and was lovingly made. In the restaurant nothing was left to be desired. Here too, the menu is small, but there is something for everyone (children's, vegetarian, starters, meat and fish dishes). Main courses cost between €17 and €25, all children's meals are €7. Of course there is real Bavarian lager and an extensive wine list. The furnishings are upscale, comfortable and well thought out. A fireplace ensures well-being in the cold season and the view of the lake is fantastic. The whole styling runs like a common thread through the concept. Highly recommended!

We went to the crime dinner at Freilich in December. This was our first time seeing something like this and we found it very entertaining. The service was great, fast and friendly and the food was also very good.

I'm torn. In the end I decided on just 3*: It was a little too cold in the dining room today. While the steak au four was huge (and unfortunately very salty, as were the fries), the piece of zander was very small. Nevertheless, the price for the fish was quite high. From our point of view, schnitzel and steak can really be smaller. It's a shame that two dishes that we wanted to choose from the menu were not available. The service was partly inattentive and overlooked our request for further orders. The ambience is great. Modern and appealing. We think the price level is a bit too high.

We were at Freilich today and had some reservations about going to the restaurant, but they quickly disappeared. Super delicious starter (Brussels sprout salad with feta and pomegranate seeds), simply delicious, excellent home-baked bread and then an impeccable Wiener schnitzel, what more could you want...

The food and service left a lot to be desired. Despite missing important ingredients, the dish I ordered was put on the table without asking me first if it was ok for me. Because I was hungry, I had no other choice and I wanted to save myself any more waiting time! The price remained the same without any concession from the restaurant. In addition, the dishes were rather poor and not warm. A visit to this restaurant is not recommended, despite the beautiful location!

I have all the stars in all areas! The food (we had roast pork and fried chicken) was extremely tasty and a very good portion, appropriate for the price. The atmosphere is very nice and the employees were all very nice. Unfortunately, the food was NOT tasty at all (and that's why you go to the restaurant). It was extremely salty (spinach dumplings and especially the mushrooms). The side vegetables were a bowl full of overcooked mess (you couldn't really tell which vegetables were left in there). The crème brulé failed (i.e. egg separated from water). I'm happy to pay a few euros more per dish, but the food here would have been really bad even for "normal" prices. The saitan slices were also too salty. Children's food (schnitzel fries or fish sticks) was good. The children enjoyed it. Unfortunately we probably won't be coming back. But that's all a matter of taste.

Waited 1.5 hours for food even though the restaurant wasn't full. When asked, the order could not be found. No offer of a drink on the house or anything like that. No direct apology, it was only after the speech that the statement “we can’t do more than apologize” came. Meat dry and seasoned meat bland. Too bad.

A dream ! Starting with the great service, which never took long to arrive, to the wonderful ambience. Rooms were nicely furnished and clean. We had a great candlelight dinner which was really fantastic. The breakfast service was also really great. The lady tried hard to make everything fit. Sausage/cheese platters were served at the set table and coffee as well. You basically didn't have to worry about anything. That's what I call a nice break! We will definitely do it again!

The first time I was there, I ordered Kaiserschmarrn and salmon with noodles, it was the best thing I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, you can no longer order the salmon dish. We were there again and ate there, the knuckle was delicious but of course extremely expensive... The meatloaf was extremely tasty, the cabbage was also good, but not quite my thing. The two steak au four were tasty, but not really filled with meat so it was lost. Overall expensive but the view inside of the many pictures and small accents in the restaurant are very nice. Also don't forget the lake a few meters away is beautiful. As a small note, I remember that if large drinks are ordered, it should be 500ml and not just 300ml from a glass Cola bottle...

Not recommended! We waited for an hour, then the waitress came and said that the receipt had been lost. Then it took another 30 minutes for the food to come. The roast pork was dry, the seasoned meat was tasteless and the pumpkin soup didn't taste like much. There was no apology for the mishap. The lake was/is beautiful.

We were there for lunch and my meal (celery schnitzel) was good. I thought it was nice that my requests for changes were taken into account.

Nice ambience, great lake view. Food not a highlight
