Luckily I was outvoted in choosing a restaurant. I'm actually not a big fish eater, but I have to rethink my opinion about the taste of fish dishes. It was really very tasty. The service was good and the atmosphere was good. Without a reservation you apparently have no chance of getting a table in the evening, but we got the tip to be there at 5 p.m. That also worked very well. However, at some point you will be kindly informed that it is time to go. Which I think is absolutely fine if you're cheating your way in between. 😉

Didn't meet our expectations. Everything was tasteless. The fried potatoes were very pale and without any seasoning. The Merlot was more reminiscent of red wine vinegar. We wouldn't eat there again.

The food tasted good even if it was a bit small for the price and cooled down quickly on the cold plate. In Ditzum there is so much fish for the same money that you have to have it packed up. The ambience was great and the service was very good.

The fish was very good. It is better to sit in a restaurant and not in a fast food restaurant area. Service was too quick at the beginning then when the glasses were empty there was a lack of attention. It's a shame otherwise it was fine.

Fischhaus Smutje Papenburg – A treat for fish lovers The Smutje Fischhaus in Papenburg is a real insider tip for everyone who loves fresh fish. The potato and crab soup is homemade and a dream for the taste buds. The main course with the perfectly cooked fish was also delicious. The staff is a bit overwhelmed, but always friendly and helpful. The atmosphere with the many historical ship models is cozy and invites you to linger. Prices are 20-35 euros per main course, which is reasonable. The only small point of criticism: it is advisable to make a reservation. Conclusion: If you are in Papenburg and are looking for fresh fish, you should definitely pay a visit to the Smutje Fischhaus.

A comfortably furnished restaurant. Price level raised. Heavy influx of guests during the week; The dishes had no taste sensation for us.

We had the seafood platter for 2 people. It tasted very good and was plentiful. Only the dips were not homemade and were very mayonnaise-heavy. However, you have to wait at least 30 minutes because everything is made fresh. The atmosphere is cozy and fish-like.

Unfortunately no recommendation. My fried potatoes were just as pale as my wife's boiled potatoes. No bacon or onions in the fried potatoes. The hot metal fish pan was not preheated. This meant the fish quickly got cold. The large and thick Finkenwerder-style plaice and the fish from the fish pan were a little dry, probably frozen. And the fly catcher on the ceiling above the table with lots of dead flies on it shouldn't be there in a good restaurant. Almost 70 euros including 3 beers were too much for that.

Das Smutje liegt in Papenburg am Kanal gegenüber des Best Western. Es gibt Mittags- und Abendessen. Erstaunlich ist, dass mittags die Bistrokarte mit etwa gleichem Essen bedeutend günstiger ist. Weshalb wir Mittags da waren. Die von uns konsumierten Speisen wie Fischteller, Brathering oder Matjes waren in Ordnung und haben auch geschmeckt. Die Bratkartoffeln waren ob der Geschwindigkeit und Geschmack wohl aus der Fritteuse. Das smutje ist das einzige Fischrestaurant in Papenburg. Und immer sehr gut besucht. Die Bedienung ist flott unterwegs. Alles in allem würden wir wieder dort einkehren.

Oh, what a failure! Could have been so easy 😅 I ordered a Radeberger, plaice, potatoes 🥔 and salad. Please do everything WITHOUT fresh parsley 🌿. I just don't like it... After half an hour the fish WITH parsley, the potatoes WITH parsley and a Jever arrived… You can't go wrong!!! I then politely said goodbye and preferred to eat a currywurst in my hotel opposite 😅😅😅

Nie wieder.Die junge Chefin ist unfreundlich,kein Lächeln ,die Tische alle voll gestellt,obwohl nichts los.Das Essen für meinen Enkel war ungenießbar.Er ist Vegetarier und hatte keine große Auswahl.Tagiatelle mit Sahnesosse.Eigentlich kann man da nichts falsch machen.Aber mit Dill?Ekelhaft.Als Chefin hätte ich mir was überlegt.Da kam nichts.Definitiv nicht zu empfehlen👎🏾

My wife and I went to the Fischhaus Smutje in Papenburg. We sat outside. Friendly staff, great service, top value for money. We had the spruce plate with various fish. The fish was well tempered and was very tasty. We can happily recommend this store. Thank you for this great evening and the best fresh fish.

Leckeres Fischlokal. Wir sind spontan mit 4 Erwachsenen und 2 Kindern hier gewesen. Man hat sich super um die Bedürfnisse der Kleinen gekümmert! Der Fisch war ebenfalls sehr lecker. Leider waren nicht alle Speisen auf der Karte vorrätig.

Total failure in this restaurant. We wanted to order fish sandwiches from the menu. When we ordered at the table, our selection of fish was immediately reduced to just one. We (3 people) were able to cope with that and we each ordered two rolls with the fish that was available. After a short while the waitress came and pointed out to us that they only had one roll left in the restaurant. Unfortunately, it was no longer possible for us to stay and we left the restaurant speechless. This is not professional....... I probably can't and don't need to report more on this. So I only gave it two stars because the atmosphere looked pretty decent. For the ambience I give it 3* Unfortunately only 2* This is the most negative application I have ever submitted. Work on organization so that there are always enough ingredients. I'm sorry. Hopefully just a blip

Wenn dieses Restaurant dass Beste in Papenburg sein soll, dann frage ich mich, wie „gut“ die anderen sind? Wir hatten das „Smutje Menü“, den gegrillten Lachs und die Heiße Pfanne für 2 Personen bestellt. Nach einiger Zeit kam die Bedienung zurück und teilte mit, dass der Lachs aus gegangen ist. Bei der „Heißen Pfanne“ und beim „ Smutje-Menü“ haben wir auf den Lachs verzichtet. Als Alternative zum gegrillten Lachs wurde ein Hähnchen-Schnitzel bestellt. Nach kurzer Zeit kam die Servicekraft erneut zurück und teilte wiederum mit, dass auch diese Speise ausgegangen ist. Nun wurden die Bandnudeln bestellt. Nach einer akzeptablen Wartezeit kamen dann die Speisen. Die Bandnudeln waren sehr geschmacksneutral. Bei der heißen Pfanne waren die Salzkartoffen an Geschmacklosigkeit nicht zu überbieten. Die Portionsgrösse der Bratkartoffeln zum Smutje-Menü glich eher einer Kinderportion. Bei der Rechnung konnte man nicht feststellen, dass bei 3 Gerichten kein Lachs dabei war, es wurde der normale Preis berechnet. Wir waren wohl das 1. - und das letzte mal in diesem Lokal.

We have visited the Fischhaus Smutje several times and have always been equally impressed. For us, a visit on the way to a holiday in East Frisia or on the way back home is a must to get us in the mood for the holiday or to take some holiday feeling home with us. The maritime atmosphere with many ship models and the very tasty food - preferably fish dishes - make you feel like you're on holiday on the coast, even though it's still a few kilometers to drive there 😉 The service is attentive and very friendly, the food is served quickly and attractively. No matter whether in the snack bar or in the restaurant, you feel very welcome everywhere. However, this review refers exclusively to the snack bar, as we have not yet visited the restaurant to eat, just inspected it 😉 It is located separately in the same building with a passage to the snack bar. There is a separate menu with a slightly larger selection of higher-priced dishes. However, the snack bar with its smaller, slightly cheaper menu has always been absolutely sufficient for us, which is why we can only rate it. We recommend the Kibbelinge made from different types of fish, but everything else has always been very tasty. The fish comes fresh every day from Greetsiel and you can taste the freshness. 🅿️ It's right around the corner in the yard ♿ The restaurant and snack bar are on the ground floor, as is the small terrace with seating in front of the building. The entrance could be a bit cramped with a wheelchair, but doable. The toilets are also cramped. ➡️ Conclusion: The snack is fully recommended if you like fish and seafood, but meat lovers will also find what they are looking for here. Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Menu was tasty. Then the lady wiped half of the table and turned the dirty tablecloth upside down. The waitress should look for a new job that she enjoys. I just couldn't enjoy my fish after that! Sad but true!
