A very small restaurant with only two tables per person, making it unpleasantly noisy and pub-like from around 7 pm onwards, with a bottleneck at the entrance. The food quality is good, but unfortunately the portions are too small – not for real men. The name suggests something more traditional, but think again. Room for improvement!

A lovely little restaurant, delicious food, and a great wine selection. We participated in the new "Bites & Bottles" event, a wine tasting with small bites to accompany the food. The restaurant is small and cozy inside, and the seating is very comfortable. The service was personal, very friendly, and attentive; the selected wines were excellent, and the food (mostly) paired well with them. I'd gladly come back for a proper dinner sometime. The very fair pricing of the wines and the sommelier's expertise are particularly noteworthy if you want delicious food paired with excellent wines.

We visited the butcher's shop (formerly a fishery) for the first time yesterday, and we really enjoyed it. The menu is sort of thematically organized, with a starter and a main course each featuring "poultry," "seafood," etc. It was truly delicious and unusual, and the wine selection is excellent (from to). Those who want can also sample the wines from the in-house shop for a corkage fee! The service was very friendly, totally authentic, and attentive! We'd be happy to return anytime!

It was definitely worth eating here on a Saturday evening. All the dishes were beautifully presented and expertly prepared. The service was pleasant and very attentive; everything was perfect. You can tell everyone involved enjoys what they do.

What was good: The food, from starters to main courses, tasted good. The plates were also attractively presented. Hence, a solid 4 stars. The young waitress was exceptionally friendly, despite what we perceived as a lack of staffing. Her colleague was also friendly, but couldn't quite match the young colleague. What wasn't good: The very long wait times between courses were far too long. Even if the food is freshly prepared, it shouldn't take that long. And even questions about whether we wanted new drinks weren't answered for a long time. In our opinion, this is due to the fact that a third person in the service is necessary and was unfortunately missing. The "wine knowledge" of the older male waitress (perhaps he was the boss?!) was also not entirely satisfactory. When we requested a bottle of white wine, which should be strong but not acidic, we unfortunately received one that had a predominantly sour taste. The male colleague was also very stressed, which we unfortunately sensed during our conversation when we asked about the food and drinks. Therefore, the service is rated 3 stars, with one star deducted for each point. Atmosphere: Due to the heat that day, we sat in the courtyard; it was a very quiet location and comfortably furnished.

You wouldn't believe it, the fishery is closing... We were there yesterday for the farewell menu and quietly said our goodbyes. The food was perfect as always, with great produce cooked to perfection, beautifully presented, and served in a relaxed atmosphere—what more could you want? It's a shame the fishery is closing, but we're already looking forward to reopening in the same spot. All the best and see you soon!

Today, I spontaneously stopped by again. I ate the delicious Hamburg panfish with the amazing mustard sauce. 🥳Thanks for the super delicious food. 😍I was a guest today; it was my birthday dinner. 🎂The atmosphere was very cozy. The food was absolutely fantastic! My partner had the sole with heirloom carrot mash and fig ravioli, which was incredibly delicious! The mustard sauce with the HH panfish was a poem. Thanks for the lovely evening. We'll be back. 😊

Last weekend, the four of us had a wonderful evening at the fishery...The atmosphere there was stylish and harmonious, the team was friendly, the food was varied, super tasty with matching, well-selected wines on the menu. The fish dishes impressed everyone, the starter - shrimp croquettes - were perfect, the dessert (carrot cake) was so delicious that we had to reorder... Everything was great, we would love to come back!

A beautiful and nicely furnished fish restaurant that also has alternative dishes in its repertoire for vegans or meat lovers. A small but fine menu that impresses. The wine selection is also worth highlighting. We really enjoyed and enjoyed everything we ate and drank.

5 stars, fresh fish, great ambience and small weaknesses in the service Fishing in Essen is a real tip for anyone who wants to enjoy high-quality fish cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. A small, lovingly run restaurant with around 30 seats inside; in summer the space is expanded to include a charming terrace. Menu & cuisine The menu is deliberately kept small, which speaks for freshness and quality, and this is exactly what is reflected in the taste. Everything seems homemade, high quality and seasonally coordinated. Our selection: • Starter: Tuna tartare and salmon, beautifully presented, accompanied by a fine cream and fresh rolls, very tasty and absolutely harmonious. • Main courses: • St. Peter's fish in an aromatic dashi stock, delicate but intense in taste. • Grilled king prawns with double-fried fries, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with three matching dips. • Sea bream fillet with mushroom ravioli, wonderfully harmonious and creatively combined Here you can really taste that every sauce, every dip and every side dish is prepared fresh and with love. A cuisine with high standards, and you can tell that with every bite. Drinks The drink selection is well thought out, with classics such as fizz and spritz variants as well as matching wines. Our spritz drinks tasted excellent, but would have liked a little more alcohol. Not a broken leg, but can be improved. Ambiance The restaurant has a stylish maritime design, with many loving details that even extend into the toilets. There are small gifts such as deodorant and hand cream for men and hairspray and care products for women. We sat at the only high table, skeptical at first, but then very positively surprised, pleasantly secluded, with a nice view of the bar and the restaurant, highly recommended. service This is the only small weak point, the service was extremely friendly and polite, but a bit inattentive. • Ordered rolls twice, only one portion was delivered. • The second time we had to specifically ask for butter, which was forgotten. • The second round of drinks only came upon request as the staff were busy. No drama at all, but in a restaurant of this quality you would also want more precision in the service. Conclusion A wonderful evening with first-class cuisine, a beautiful ambience and small service weaknesses that we can hopefully get under control. The prices are absolutely justified when you consider the quality, freshness and handcraft. We will definitely come back because the fishing impresses across the board with taste, style and enjoyment.

Disappointing and overrated We tried the restaurant based on the many good reviews, but were unfortunately disappointed. The quality of the food is disproportionate to the price. The plates were attractively presented, but the taste of the food was not convincing. The fried potatoes had little to do with what you'd expect and the fries were extremely greasy. The fish and shrimp were okay, but the taste was by no means outstanding. In addition, with shrimp it would be appropriate to provide a wet wipe to clean your hands. Overall, we expected much more given the prices. Unfortunately for us it's not a restaurant that we would recommend.

The food was decent, but not appropriate for the high price. The service was good and friendly. We didn't like the ambience: the restaurant was full and the tables and chairs were placed extremely (!) close together. It was hardly possible to have a conversation, but you could easily record the neighbors' conversations... One of us had to sit on an uncomfortable window sill without a backrest. A restaurant should and must of course make money, but here the "commercial optimization" becomes too clear: because of the narrow space, but also because of the surcharge for bread and dip in advance (they asked if they wanted it but didn't say that it would cost extra) and the handling of the payment process with card. (The first thing that appears on the device is a full-format tip prompt.) It may be that fishing is currently “in” (Rü hype?). We'd rather go back to a good middle-class restaurant with good food, but more moderate prices and more space, better acoustics and overall more of a "feel-good factor" in the perception of being a valued guest.

Stumbled upon this place while I was in town for the day. They treated me very kindly despite the fact that I don't speak any German. Quick service. Really fresh and well-seasoned food! The mocha was also the cutest!

We have known the restaurant for years. Yesterday we had a Christmas party there and I have to honestly say that the food, both fish and meat, was excellent. Starters were fantastic too! Fantastically thought out and organized, ultra polite service, relaxed atmosphere. Top chef! One of my two popular restaurants in Essen!

A good fish restaurant with an informal atmosphere and very customer-oriented service. Overall good dishes. The rating is not full due to the menu not being very extensive and some dishes with a cost/quantity ratio that is not always right.

A gem on the outskirts of Rüttenscheid. Even if you're not a big fan of fish, you'll always find high-quality, tasty and beautifully presented food here. The service is always friendly and uncomplicated. The only downside: the bread in advance costs 3 EUR - per person! This should actually be included in a restaurant in this price range - or you can just leave it out.

We had the carousel menu. Food good, but not spectacular. 4 mini rolls with dip EUR 6 is unnecessary. This is what other restaurants offer. 200 EUR for 2 people is already very expensive, but the expectations are higher. The bottle of wine was not served to the carousel as planned. Service good, but the menu was too quick. You couldn't really enjoy yourself in peace.

Restaurateur Julia Mair showed the right instinct when she returned home three years ago to open a restaurant here and quickly establish itself as one of the best fish addresses in the city. New to my culinary itinerary this year is fishing. And I'm very happy about that, because really good restaurants specializing in fish and seafood are few and far between in our latitudes. And so rare that there aren't even a handful of them in my portfolio. Now fishing is reinforcing this elite circle. It's a shame that it took me three years to discover it, because that's how long it's been since Julia Mair moved from Duisburg back to her local roots in Essen, where she quickly became one of the best fishing addresses in Rüttenscheider Straße to establish the city. And since Julia is currently conquering a second niche with her gardening business, she trusts completely in her three "M's" Marco, Mirco and Milena; their warm and relaxed team, with the latter providing the service while Marco pulls in the nets in the galley. There with active support from Sous-Chef Davide. The two of them put everything on their plates that has scales, shells or crusts, sometimes very classic, sometimes a little more modern, such as the monkfish with Hamburg labskaus, truffled fried egg and cucumber foam or the shrimp with hummus, pointed cabbage salad, bread chips and smoked paprika gel.

If I lived in Essen, this would be my absolute favorite restaurant! Everything is just right: Cozy chairs/tables in a beautiful ambience with tasteful, discreet decorations. Very courteous, authentic and good-humored employees who obviously feel very comfortable at their workplace.☺️ Great food: a great seafood platter, the best spaghetti beyond the Italian border 😍 and an incredibly good dessert. Rounded off with delicious drinks. Thanks for a great evening fishing :-) leaves a lasting impression!

My partner is from Genoa and he said this is the best fish he’d ever eaten in Germany. He’s celiac and I’m vegan, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel safe and welcome If you are a vegan, let them know in advance, they have another restaurant which is fully vegetarian and they’ll make sure they have something special for you The food is gorgeous by the way

Great food, great wines, great service!

They still exist. The small restaurants in which a team with heart and passion is dedicated to the topic of food. Fishing is part of it. We sat in the back yard, which is relatively cozy. Oysters and ceviche as a starter were very good, the grilled prawns with fries came with three different sauces. There could have been one more shrimp, but we hope they are sustainably caught fish - they are a bit more expensive. The grilled sea bream was crispy and the portion was so large that my companion couldn't finish it. The service is friendly, courteous and - we are in the Ruhr area - uncomplicated, so that the rest of the main course was packed for us without any problems. We felt very well looked after. The tiramisu rounds off a lovely evening. The open white wine was also good and was poured generously. As darkness fell, lamps with a pleasant light were placed on the table. That's how we like it. Go!

As a young family, we went out to eat for the first time in two years with our little 15-month-old daughter in tow. The first visit to the fishery was a labor of love for us, and Mirko (or with C?) couldn't have made it easier or more pleasant for us. Great ambience, the food is an experience on the palate, even though I'm not a fish fan, and the selection of drinks is not only great, but also fairly priced! Mum happy and full, dad happy and full and the offspring, who really enjoyed fish'n'chips, were happy and full too. We say: Thank you and see you soon!

Fishing in Essen-Rüttenscheid is an absolute must for all fish lovers and connoisseurs! The ambience is simply stunning – stylish and inviting. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive, the service is top! The food was simply sensational! The fish was perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavor. The combinations of the different dishes were creative and balanced. I was particularly impressed by the excellent Moccachino, which rounded off the meal perfectly. As a small but nice extra, there was even sweets at the end. A really nice gesture! I'll definitely be back and can highly recommend fishing!🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

The prawn croquettes were tasty and fish and chips were also tasty, but the music was a bit unpleasant. Second visit: The crab croquettes have changed shape and seem a little smaller than before, with the same price. Teriyaki salmon was tasty, but like many dishes, it doesn't quite live up to the price. The non-free starter bread follows this pattern.

Very friendly service, great food in really good portions. Great advice for me as a fishing beginner too. We found prices for fish really ok. The restaurant takes part in the Essen city voucher, so it's also a great gift idea. A special restaurant 😄

Eines der besten lokale in Essen. Kleines gemütliches Restaurant mit schöner Aussenterrasse im Hinterhof. Hier fühlt man sich willkommen und findet auf einer (zum Glück) eher klein gehaltenen Speisekarte, kreative und Alt bewährte Fischgerichte, die perfekt abgeschmeckt und auf den Punkt zubereitet sind. Auch für Menschen, die keinen Fisch essen, findet sich immer ein fleischiger Ersatz. Der Service ist hoch professionell und überzeugt mit einer guten Wein Expertise.

Special, small restaurant. There is a large selection of fish, but the prices are correspondingly higher. Service was warm and everything was a success for a lovely evening. Chairs were uncomfortable for me personally, but my colleagues did not share this opinion.

Went there with a certain level of expectation because of the great reviews. I cannot subscribe to the advertising “for small and large budgets”. The atmosphere is modern. Not more than that. Prices that belong in an “upscale” restaurant. Even a starter is just under €20. A small bouillabaisse €15. Yes, I know what's in this soup. The menu is really great for fish lovers. But unfortunately only for fish lovers with big wallets. Not amazing in terms of taste, but definitely good. The service was friendly, sometimes not careful enough. All in all, the visit was ok, but we wouldn't go there again given this atmosphere and the prices that were too high

Very nice small restaurant specialized on seafood dishes. Service is awesome nice, friendly & fast and food quality ist awesome good. Even if restaurant is full booked the dishes are all served on same time and the quality is on point. Not overcooked or not finished cooked.

We came across the fishery based on a recommendation and were thrilled the first time. We were kind enough to get a table at 9 p.m. There was also very friendly and competent advice on the wine (and a small tasting sip). Service therefore five points The “pan fish” (three different small fillets with fried potatoes) was very, very tasty. The sauce was very nice, with just a slight note of mustard and well-made fried potatoes.

Bei unserem Besuch in diesem Restaurant, am 24.01.2024, waren wir enttäuscht von der übermäßigen Lautstärke und der schlechten Gästebetreuung. Das Restaurant war überfüllt, was zu einem äußerst unangenehmen und sehr lauten Ambiente führte. Die Geräuschkulisse machte es schwierig, sich zu unterhalten. Wir wurden in eine Ecke gequetscht, trotz Reservierung und hatten beinahe Körperkontakt zu anderen Gästen. Das Essen zu genießen war unmöglich.

Leider war auch die Gästebetreuung, nachdem das Essen serviert wurde nicht nur nicht zufriedenstellend, sie brach vollkommen ab. Das Personal schien überfordert und gestresst zu sein, was zu längeren Wartezeiten führte und die Aufmerksamkeit unserer Bedürfnisse vollkommen vernachlässigte.

Es ist bedauerlich, dass diese negativen Aspekte unseren Gesamteindruck des Restaurants stark beeinflusst haben, da das Essen an sich von guter Qualität war. Es wäre jedoch wünschenswert, dass das Management Maßnahmen ergreift, um die Lautstärke zu reduzieren und die Gästebetreuung wesentlich zu verbessern, um dadurch ein angenehmeres und entspannteres Erlebnis für die Gäste zu gewährleisten. Zumindest kann man die Gäste, idealer Weise schon bei der Reservierung, auf „volles Haus“ hinweisen und eine gewisse und rechtzeitige Bemühung, auch oder gerade bei unzufriedenen Gästen, obligatorisch sein. Wir kommen sicher nicht wieder.

During our visit to this restaurant on January 24th, 2024, we were disappointed by the excessive noise and poor customer service. The restaurant was overcrowded, resulting in an extremely unpleasant and very noisy ambience. The noise made it difficult to have a conversation. We were squeezed into a corner, despite having a reservation, and almost had physical contact with other guests. Enjoying the food was impossible. Unfortunately, after the food was served, the customer service was not only unsatisfactory, it broke down completely. The staff seemed overwhelmed and stressed, resulting in longer wait times and completely neglecting to pay attention to our needs. It is unfortunate that these negative aspects greatly influenced our overall impression of the restaurant as the food itself was of good quality. However, it would be desirable for management to take measures to reduce noise and significantly improve guest service, thereby ensuring a more pleasant and relaxed experience for guests. At least you can inform the guests that the house is full, ideally when making the reservation, and make a certain and timely effort, even or especially in the case of dissatisfied guests. We're definitely not coming back.

We (3 people) went fishing for the first time today. At first there was a small problem with our reservation, but it was solved very flexibly and nicely. We had a really great evening with delicious food (restaurant carousel menu) and delicious wine accompaniment. The service is great. Nice and very attentive. We will definitely come back and look forward to the next visit :-)

Das Essen und der Laden haben uns gut gefallen, aber der Service war enttäuschend, so dass wir es nicht empfehlen würden.

Oh mein Gott! So lecker habe ich Fisch noch nicht gegessen. Wir haben das Herbstmenu bestellt und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Vielen Dank. Die Vorspeise war das absolute Highlight. In Zitrone gebeizte Jakobsmuscheln. Herrlich... Der Rest des Menus war auch hervorragend, aber die Vorspeise eindeutig ein Geschmackserlebnis. Gerne wieder. Und das mit dem Zeitfenster hatten wir nicht ganz auf dem Schirm, klappt beim nächsten Mal aber bestimmt.

Anlässlich unseres Hochzeitstages waren wir wieder zu Gast in der Fischerei. Wir haben uns für ein 4-Gänge-Menü (Herbstkarussell) mit begleitenden Weinen entschieden. Die einzelnen Gänge waren sehr schön angerichtet und durchaus schmackhaft wenn auch das Kardamomeis zur Kaffee Sabayone etwas kristallig. Die Portionen sind eher klein, für ein Mehrgängemenü aber ausreichend. Die Weine passten gut zu den einzelnen Speisen. Der Service war freundlich und gut. Das Ambiente stimmig für die schon gehobene Preislage. Was mich ein wenig gestört hat ist, dass man vorab gefragt wird ob man Brot möchte und das dies keine Aufmerksamkeit des Hauses ist, sondern berechnet wird. Das sollte man klarer kommunizieren. Was mir auch aufgefallen ist, im letzten Jahr wurde unser Tisch besonders schön eingedeckt weil wir den Hochzeitstag bei der Reservierung erwähnt haben (nachträglich ein Dankeschön an Melania), dies war in diesem Jahr nicht der Fall.

Eine sehr wohnliche und freundliche Atmosphäre und ein sehr guter Service, der genau die richtige Zeit kennt. Die Qualität der Speisen ist hervorragend, die Zusammenstellung, die Zubereitung und die Präsentation sind perfekt. Es lohnt sich unbedingt!

Es gibt nicht viele Restaurants, die einen nachhaltigen Eindruck hinterlassen, die Fischerei zählt aber dazu. Schön eingerichtet mit gut platzierten Akzenten versprüht den Charme den es braucht um zu wissen, hier gibt es Fisch. Der Service ist erstklassig und sehr aufmerksam. Das Essen ist hervorragend, die Qualität ebenfalls. Einzig kann der Geschmack durch zu dezente Würzung nicht immer das hohe Niveau halten. Ich komme wieder! Ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Besuch!

Küchenleistung und Service auf hohem Niveau haben wir am Freitag hier erleben können und waren begeistert! 4 Personen mit Vorspeisen und Hauptgerichten. Bei der Vorspeise haben 3 Personen die gleiche Vorspeise bestellt, 1 Person hat eine andere Wahl getroffen. Bei Hauptgericht waren die Variationen 2/1/1. Alle Gerichte wurden perfekt zeitgleich serviert und waren optisch und, natürlich wichtig, geschmacklich ein Hochgenuß! Der begleitende Service war nicht nur als sehr gut zu bezeichnen, sondern auch als herzlich. Die Getränke-Karte ist für Weintrinker gut mit Angeboten ausgestattet, allerdings hinsichtlich der Preise bei Flaschenweinen für die angebotenen Weine recht ambitioniert bepreist. Biere, von Flens, Bayreuther, und Maisels, werden ausschließlich in Flaschen angeboten. Sehr gut übrigens, der "Salz-Hering" und der "Saure Hering" ;-) Sehr schönes Ambiente mit maritimer, aber nicht kitschiger Gestaltung! Wichtig zu wissen: Wenn das Restaurant gut besucht ist, ist ein Gespräch am Tisch schwer zu führen, da aufgrund baulicher Gegebenheiten keine schall-aufnehmende Decke eingebaut ist Ärgerlich: Ein Werbe-Screen ist eingebracht, der die diverse "Botschaften" an die Gäste vermittelt. Das muss im einem Restaurant diese Kategorie nicht sein und hat uns gestört!

Wir kommen immer wieder gerne hierhin. Sehr freundliche Bedienung, gute Empfehlungen und die Vorspeisen außergewöhnlich! Natürlich auch die Hauptgerichte .. aber meist essen wir soviele Vorspeisen, dass wir das Hauptgericht mitnehmen ;-) Freuen uns aufs nächste mal.

Wir waren zu 6 dort. Mein Essen war gut, 2 waren mäßig und drei nicht gut. Preise sind stark überteuert.

I was in town for a work trip from the US and was looking for a quaint place for amazing seafood. A colleague had heard wonderful things about the Fischerei and I am so glad I stopped in. Mirco and the Fischerei really made a work trip turn into a much more memorable experience. Not only was my meal outstanding, the atmosphere and genuine hospitality were heart-warming. Look forward to returning. PS - I do not write reviews generally but my visit was such a stand-out, I had to share!

Ich war in den vergangenen sieben Tagen zweimal mit Geschäftspartnern in der Fischerei zum Abendessen. An beiden Abenden war das Essen hervorragend und der Service sehr aufmerksam.

Wirklich klasse und empfehlenswert! Tolles Konzept und ein Essen das nicht nur schmeckt sondern auch gesund ist. Man merkt, dass die drei Inhaber selbst Hand anlegen und das Restaurant eine Passion für sie bedeutet. Gut, dass es noch Restaurants gibt, wie dieses, die kein Convenience- Food einsetzen.

Leckeres Essen, guter Service, kein Chichi, kostet was es wert ist. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Sehr gute Küche. Der Gastraum könnte etwas mehr Wärme ausstrahlen.

Wir waren neulich zum ersten mal in der Fischerei. Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen und unsere Bestellungen wurden nach wenigen Minuten aufgenommen. Die Vorspeise Kam auch sofort. Mit der Hauptspeise hat es dann etwas länger gebraucht. Wir bestellten einmal Fish & Chips und eine Dorade frisch vom Grill. Der Fisch war nicht so der Brüller aber die Pommes war ausgezeichnet. Die Dorade war sehr gut gewürzt und die Beilagen waren sehr interessant aber lecker. Es gab nichts zu Beanstanden

Sehr leckeres Essen, nette Bedienung und angenehme Atmosphäre. Ich empfehle den Kabeljau.

Hier gibt es qualitativ gutes Essen mit aufmerksamen Service. Wir waren zu viert und haben verschiedene Speisen bestellt. Alles war sehr lecker und gut angerichtet. Der Wein war etwas teuer. Wir kommen wieder.

Wir waren heute zum ersten mal zu Gast in der Fischerei. Haben durch einen WAZ Artikel (04.2023) dieses tolle Fischrestaurant entdeckt. Das Essen (Hummer - Fisch-Grillplatte für 2 Personen) hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt.

Wir/ich haben uns sauwohl gefühlt..
