Fischer & Lustig in Berlin

We went to the restaurant for the Morgenpost menu, and the value for money is usually excellent, unless the owners struggle to handle a large number of guests quickly and with quality. This time, they managed it, albeit with some limitations, and the service staff were consistently attentive and knowledgeable. The wines exceeded our expectations, as at least the off-dry wines didn't veer into the sweet realm. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the food. Three out of five courses were marred by the excessive use of sugar.

This was by far the best culinary experience we've had in a long time! We conveniently booked in advance via their website. On-site, they would have given us a quiet table to the left of the entrance, as they expected many groups and a corresponding noise level. We were very grateful for that! After the appetizer (bread amuse-bouche), we opted for the duck for two, carved tableside. It was a delight! The staff was always friendly and never forgot about us, which almost always happens to us after the main course. Highly recommended!

We spontaneously decided to have dinner and, thanks to a seat near the kitchen, had the wonderful opportunity to experience the team's professionalism up close. A warm and attentive welcome, superb service, and genuine staff who clearly enjoy their work. The food was excellent; overall, it was a truly enjoyable restaurant experience, the first in a long time, and we felt genuinely welcome. In short: we'll be back in December for a family reunion with 10 people.

Located in the Nikolai district, this restaurant, contrary to what its name might suggest, doesn't actually have that many fish dishes on the menu. In November, for example, goose dishes are also available. It has a large beer garden, and the interior is surprisingly modern. I liked that the name is also printed on the glasses. The portion sizes might not be large enough for very hungry people. The food itself is really delicious. The herring in my Labskaus was cooked perfectly. I recommend the "Trüber Werner" beer – well-hopped and full of flavor.

A charming restaurant near the Red Town Hall. They offer a blend of North German and Berlin cuisine. We tried the plaice, herring, and duck. Everything was cooked to perfection, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The additional seasonal menu (currently featuring pumpkin and duck dishes) is commendable, making the selection even more extensive and challenging. The friendly welcome and the efficient, professional service were also very pleasant. We'd gladly return.

I had reserved a table for 10 people at 5 p.m. on October 11th for my 60th birthday, after a great tasting dinner beforehand. The reservation was made over a month in advance. We arrived on time, and the table was set. We were greeted with the words that the kitchen would take a little longer due to the Berlin Festival of Lights, as it was very busy. In the Hofgarten, all the seats were taken, and the staff were completely overworked and simply not enough for the number of guests. We were told the kitchen was small, hence the wait. We waited 1.5 hours for the food, the drinks took a while, and my husband repeatedly ordered more at the bar because we were left high and dry. It was actually a disaster. The Königsberger was dry—there was hardly any sauce, and the plaice was also disappointing. My trout was good. I was actually going to write off the day, but afterward, I received so much negative feedback from my guests that I'm writing this review after all. You can't take every store with you if your staffing situation and circumstances don't allow it. It was a real shame and aggravating for us as guests and for my special day. I would have at least expected to be served faster because we had ordered. At the end, at the checkout, I was told how much to pay; there was no bill. I could have asked, but it should be a given that the receipt would be printed out given the high turnover. I assume none of the staff had a plan anymore, and my family wanted to leave too. My family agrees: never again and a complete disaster.

Very friendly service. Nicely decorated, located in the historic center of Berlin's Nikolaiviertel district. Excellent food, and there's also a good outdoor seating area. Overall, highly recommended.

We had an absolutely wonderful evening here with fantastic food. The service was super friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back. PS: There are no photos because we were focused on the food and ourselves, but trust me... It was fantastic.

This restaurant in the Nikolaiviertel is very charming. The service is pleasant. We had a menu in a professional setting with a soup starter, boiled beef, and a wild berry dessert. After finishing the soup, I felt unwell, which prevented me from trying the rest. What a pity.

I'm reviewing Mutter Hoppe here. I don't know why Fischer & Lustig is listed. Everything is great. The customer is still king here. Excellent food, lovely ambiance. I highly recommend it.

They didn't even want to serve us

We were in town on a whim for the Festival of Lights last Friday (October 10, 2025). A little hunger led us to this great spot! There were four of us adults, two children, and a miniature dachshund. Despite the packed house, the truly helpful and friendly waiters got us a table! We are very grateful for that! The service and food were excellent! We would love to come back! Keep up the good work!

Very good food Nice service I highly recommend

First time I visited, the restaurant had opened indoor and outdoor seating. The kitchen couldn't cope with so many orders and when told there was a >1 h wait on some soup, I left along with other customers. I tried the next day, things were a lot more organised and the service and food both lovely.

My friend and I stopped by for dinner and were thrilled by the attention of the service and really enjoyed the food. I was surprised that the price was quite nice compared with what I would have expected to pay for a similar meal in the US. Edit: We went to a few other high rated restaurants that week for German food and were disappointed in them compared with Fisher & Lustig. The only comparable restaurant was at the top of the Berlin TV tower, which cost much more.

The service and the restaurant are fine. The problem is that there are few parking spaces nearby. Traveling by public transport is essential.

We were there for a class reunion with almost 50 people, and we probably didn't always make it easy for the staff. However, they remained friendly and attentive throughout. The food was delicious, and all the drinks arrived exactly as ordered, even when we were seated. High praise!

None of it was my cup of tea. The food arrived late, the waiter was unfriendly, and the atmosphere wasn't my cup of tea either!

Business lunch in a pleasant atmosphere – highly recommended We went for a business lunch with a large group in the evening and were completely satisfied. The service was extremely friendly, attentive, and flexible – even individual requests, such as a change of side dish, were easily accommodated. The food was tasty, well-balanced, and the portion sizes were just right. The intervals between courses were also pleasant – neither too long nor too short. The quality of the drinks deserves special mention: the selection was appealing, and my drink, "Helga" (alcoholic), tasted amazing. Overall, a successful evening with a harmonious overall package. We would be happy to return – a definite recommendation!

We had just arrived in Berlin and stumbled upon this place. It was a chilly night and after a little while we asked to move inside. The wait staff were very friendly especially our waitress Lea. The bar staff was a bit grumpy but the rest of the staff made up for his behaviour. It is a great restaurant with very tasty food.

Wonderful Restaurant with great food and nice service

After a long day, I arrived at the restaurant hungry in the evening and unfortunately didn't feel full. Okay, I can fast sometimes, but not when I order a hearty meal for €21.50. It was delicious, but unfortunately a very meager portion of Loriot. They didn't skimp on the meat, but rather on the mashed potatoes. What a pity! In response to my polite complaint, the waiter said I should have mentioned beforehand that I was very hungry, then he would have recommended something else.

Incredibly delicious & lovely service

I highly recommend this restaurant... We had a celebration there yesterday. We had to increase the number of guests at short notice... but it wasn't a problem... which left a great impression. The service was very good... The waitresses seemed to enjoy their jobs and let us feel it. They always had a kind word and were accommodating to special requests. The food was excellent. The value for money was also good. I highly recommend Fischer & Lustig.

Absolutely fair value for this location. We were served extremely friendly and relatively quickly as part of a larger group of 12 people. The menu only takes a little getting used to when it comes to some of the dish combinations. However, side dish changes and special requests were handled in a friendly and uncomplicated manner. The quality was good. Price example: 2 x 0.5l beers 1 x medallions of veal with potatoes (a significantly larger portion) approx. €39 If the opportunity arises, I would eat here again.

Good food, good service, nice terrace

Today, on a cool autumn day, I finally visited the restaurant "Fischer&Lustig" in Berlin's historic Nikoleiviertel! It is, as the owners themselves say on their website, the little sister of "Jäger&und Lustig" in Friedrichshain! Well, I wouldn't call it small! The beer garden alone seats 120 guests under wonderfully shady old trees! And the interior is by no means small either! The day before, the 51st Berlin Marathon took place with over 80,000 participants! It was a hot summer day with temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius, and I couldn't find a seat in the beer garden at "Fischer&Lustig." So I turned around and decided to go there for lunch the next day! And lo and behold, it was very cool weather, and I had the huge beer garden and the wait staff all to myself! The restaurant is easily accessible on foot from Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station in about 10 minutes, past the Berlin government building (the Red Town Hall) at Poststrasse 26! The menu and drinks list is well-arranged and offers excellent regional cuisine! True to the motto of "Fischer&Lustig," regional and seasonal dishes are served! In one word: "home-style cooking." I opted for "Braised Cheeks of Country Pork" and a wonderful "Pinot Gris"! The meat was perfectly braised and wonderfully tender! The vegetables were also very tasty! Just, in my opinion, not enough! Suggestion to the kitchen: 2 more tablespoons of vegetables and the meal would be perfect! Afterwards, I took a short walk to Café Buchwald for coffee! See next review 👍

Simply magnificent! I eat fish often, and it's rare that it's cooked to perfection like our salmon and trout. Incredibly deliciously seasoned, and the side dishes are also perfectly chosen. The ambiance is tastefully chosen down to the last detail and rounds off everything wonderfully. Our starter was also excellent, and the dessert (cold dog) was a real feast for the taste buds. The service was extremely friendly, and we immediately felt welcome and very comfortable. Thank you so much for this wonderful evening❤️

An elegant restaurant, it was an excellent choice for us to enjoy some delicious dishes. Delicious pumpkin soup, delicious risotto, and a salad plate decorated with assorted berries, goat cheese, and lettuce. Grilled fish and delicious potatoes were also on the table, decorated with roasted almonds, leafy greens, and herbs.

Excellent value for money! Very friendly, engaging, and responsive service. Wonderful fish & chips with remoulade and mayo as a starter. The pumpkin risotto was particularly delicious. The lamb was tender, and the Wiener schnitzel was actually veal. A wonderful go-to in the Nikolaiviertel.

Based on the reviews, we had hoped for more. While we found the service very friendly and professional, the food was mediocre at best. And as a Berliner, I'm very surprised that "Bemme" is the Berlin term for open sandwiches, as explained on the menu. I know the term from Saxony and Thuringia. We always call it "Stulle" here.

We visited Fischer&Lustig twice during our visit to Berlin and were very satisfied both times. Delicious food (a great selection for vegetarians too!), very attentive and friendly service, and a great atmosphere. We sat outside in the nice weather; we'll definitely be back!

We celebrated our diamond wedding anniversary at "Fischer & Lustig" a few days ago. We were very pleased with both the food and the ambiance. Among the best restaurants I've tried in Berlin. Traditional cuisine with a modern twist, without the ethnic twists that are always prevalent in Berlin. Prices are certainly not those of a street food restaurant, but it's worth it for the quality, atmosphere, and service. Treat yourself to a dinner in Berlin with a difference.

A lovingly decorated restaurant with very friendly staff and delicious food. The portions are generously sized, and the value for money is excellent. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy the lovely outdoor area. All in all, we really enjoyed our time at Fischer und Lustig and would come back.

We went there for a birthday. We were a larger group, and we were skeptical at first, as it was a restaurant in Mitte, and we'd always been a bit disappointed with the food and service. But it was great!!! The food was incredibly delicious! The service was fantastic, truly. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back again. By the way, there's plenty to choose from on the menu for non-fish eaters, too. I couldn't find a table for the kids either. The restaurant's layout and decor are beautiful. We booked here because of the 4.6-point rating. The Berlin-style service was so friendly with their witty remarks, really great, not so stuffy... fantastic! The food was excellent; the chef filleted the plaice himself at your table if requested. Drinks were all served super quickly. The staff also show that they're a well-coordinated team, and they only speak kind words. Thumbs up. The ambiance inside is unusual, stylish, yet charming and cozy. Great location in a great neighborhood. We discovered this lovely shop by chance after a visit to a museum. The menu is small but varied. There's something for everyone. The atmosphere is great, and the service is relaxed, funny, and professional. I'd love to come back. Blessings to Max 😉

From the very beginning, things were anything but fun for me here, even though the outdoor area is beautiful. I could still tolerate the extremely loud playing children at a table (consideration is completely out of fashion in Berlin since the coronavirus pandemic), but being ushered to a kids' table by the waiter with the words "he was just waiting for me" is rather questionably charming. After that, patience and stamina are required (a long wait for every handshake), a fat wallet (drink, salad, and main course cost me €30 without tip), but only moderate hunger, as the portions are manageable. To my great misfortune, I completely misjudged the salad selection. Specifically avoiding the cucumber salad on the menu (it's usually too sour), I ordered the romaine lettuce and got... a small bowl with little romaine lettuce and generous amounts of tomatoes and cucumbers!! As I feared, it was super sour and inedible for me. I returned it almost untouched. The waiter didn't care about the reasons. Just as a side note: other guests were yelled at as they passed by, "We're a fish restaurant too!" There will always be guests with misconceptions or insufficient prior information, but this kind of approach is not acceptable!
