Fährhaus Zons in Dormagen

This was my first time here. The atmosphere is cozy, and the service staff was friendly. My pinsa was okay. The price-performance ratio is on the higher side. I'll come again.

Today we visited the Fährhaus Zons for the first time and were thrilled. The food was truly delicious, with huge portions and excellent quality! We sat in the lovely beer garden. The service was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

A trip to Zons am Rhein is definitely worth it. The menu at the old ferry house is very limited, but the food is delicious and the service is top-notch. Even though we had temperatures around 36 degrees Celsius on the weekend, the service was very attentive.

A quick trip to Zons brought us to this restaurant. It has a lovely atmosphere on the Rhine.

Beautiful old inn with flair...great outdoor area/beer garden with wonderful views of the Rhine...the location is fantastic...the staff is friendly...there are delicious beers fresh from the tap...both Alt and Kölsch...so everyone will find the right cold drink there...more visits are planned

A joke, a disgrace. The staff doesn't listen to what you order. I specifically ordered without bread and dressing because I'm keto, and I'm still waiting for my Coke to this day. My 18-euro burrata salad with sunflower seeds. A cute little burrata, about 8-9 lettuce leaves, a small half-sliced ​​cocktail tomato, two slices of cucumber, a heaped tablespoon of beetroot tartare, and a whole 2 sunflower seeds and half a walnut. Honestly, in other restaurants you can get a larger side salad for 3 euros. The only thing I got was a "Sorry." Simply a disgrace.

The prices are simply way over the top. I wonder who can still afford it. The food tasted okay. However, due to the prices, we only give it two stars, and we won't be back.

We've been there several times from a campsite on the Rhine and can highly recommend a visit to the Fährhaus. It was absolutely packed over the May 1, 2025, holiday. But the staff handled it superbly – they were always friendly and accommodating and didn't seem even remotely stressed. That was probably due, and above all, to the head waiter Alex... (... whom I got to know a little better that evening on my second visit there, without my wife and dog and all the holiday hustle and bustle). The fish soup and the asparagus dish are highly recommended, by the way – the asparagus cream soup, not so much. Many thanks to Alex and the entire team at the Fährhaus Zons.

An old ferry house with a great atmosphere, and very attentive and friendly service. The food, including veal schnitzel and Wiener schnitzel, was simply delicious and plentiful. We'd love to come back. The team is fantastic.

A great place to stop after crossing the Rhine by ferry. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside and watch the boats. The restaurant is also beautifully decorated inside. I ordered salmon. It came with green beans and potato gratin. The portion was large. It tasted good. The potato gratin was especially delicious. For dessert, I had profiteroles and a cappuccino. Both were good. The service was friendly.

Yes, period. I think I ate a very good potato salad with bockwurst there last year. With that in mind, I ordered it again this time. But the potato salad, this potato salad, came from a large bucket, period, and that's how it tasted, too. I have to say, in recognition, that my dear wife's dish was considerably better: turkey breast with ratatouille and a fantastic potato gratin. I was told it was the chef's homemade Rhenish potato salad, period. That, in my opinion, was a complete lie.

For me, this is a place that stands out from the rest. The location is beautiful on the Rhine, and you don't notice any ferry traffic. The outdoor area is simple but functional, while the interior ambiance is rather rustic, which is a matter of taste. As for the food, everything was excellent. The service was attentive, and I even got my favorite drink (cherry/cola). The price/performance ratio is completely acceptable for me. A place where you can linger. In short, I'll be back.

Beautiful place, very nice location. The food is also good and not too expensive. We've been there a few times now. Yes, the service could be a bit more attentive, but people are still working there, and I've also seen a lot of guests who, while drinking a beer on the terrace, acted like they were God in France. So, please understand that the waiters sometimes slow down a bit with the flow of guests. The food is of good quality, and there's plenty on the plate. A restaurant worth returning to!

Very cozy outdoor dining. The service was very good and genuinely friendly. The kitchen prepared the food to perfection, and the seasoning showed that the chef knows his craft. Despite the busyness, we received friendly service, and the dishes were also evident in the lovingly prepared food. The price was mid-range. The quality was on the higher end.

The veal schnitzel is highly recommended; very tasty and of the highest quality, and attractively presented! High-quality vegetarian options are also available! A great place to stop for a drink. We were out on our bikes and just happened to pass by. A wonderful beer garden, and well-frequented in this weather. Unfortunately, there are still many bikers who think that restrooms in restaurants are public restrooms. "It's only natural that you can use them without consuming anything." => Outrageous

I will not eat there again on principle because of the way they treated a guest. We were a large group, and we were shocked by the way the manager behaved toward the guest. Absolutely unprofessional in the restaurant industry, very aggressive and very loud; all the guests witnessed this disgrace. A no-go. I worked in the restaurant industry for years myself. Actually, no star.

Asparagus cooked to perfection, schnitzel perfectly prepared (tossed in oil, homemade hollandaise sauce), top-notch beer garden within sight of the Rhine. Very friendly service. Anyone who complains about prices but drives up on €5,000 e-bikes has double standards. Prices are like that everywhere these days.

Beautiful meeting place under trees on the Rhine

Unfortunately, our first visit to the Fährhaus Zons was very disappointing. During our meal, an unpleasant incident occurred – a hair on the plate, or rather, on my schnitzel. Instead of an apology, the staff simply responded with a disinterested "Oh!" – which was quite disappointing. I was asked if I wanted something else – of course I did, after all, we were there to eat with friends... The second disappointment came with the bill: For a small bowl of mayo or ketchup (estimated at about 3 tablespoons), we were charged €1.50 each – the same for mustard. This pricing is truly unreasonable and unfortunately seems simply outrageous! The restaurant's location directly on the Rhine is truly beautiful, but given our overall experience, we won't be eating there again in the future. It's a real shame – we were looking forward to a pleasant afternoon.

We went there spontaneously for the first time and liked it so much that we'll be back.

Although the restaurant was sparsely attended, we couldn't choose our seats; instead, we were asked to sit at a table we didn't like. A few "stupid" excuses were used as an explanation. We left the restaurant. It's annoying; some businesses haven't heard the word yet. This wouldn't have happened in the past, with Ms. Rommerskirchen.

The one star is for the location facing the Rhine. We found a free table upon arrival that resembled a simple, older beer tent table set. No nice decoration on the table. We sat for about 20 minutes until our attention was drawn to us and a waitress came are understaffed? You know that! You also know that there is always a lot of tourism on the sunny weekends. I think the prices are way too high. We then decided on our favorite restaurant in another town and were very happy with everything without a view of the Rhine.

5 sticks of asparagus, 3 half potatoes and 2-3 strips of ham with a puddle of sauce for an outrageous €23.50. I ate here for the last time. It's an outrage and a rip off!!!

Very tasty food! Here and there maybe €2 more than usual for a meal like somewhere else, but you shouldn't forget that it's a seasonal business :). Overall we had a great time at the ferry house. Thanks

Today we were able to celebrate our daughter's communion party in the ferry house. From start to finish we felt very well looked after. Agreements were implemented very well The food was sensationally good and the service was outstanding Thank you for the great time and your commitment

Very nicely located beer garden. However, on May 1st, service was extremely limited. Several guests got up and left after a long wait. The majority of service staff were unable to take orders. "We'll send you a colleague" was the statement, always very polite, but not satisfactory. Ordering and delivering three drinks took longer than 30 minutes. Only one of four service staff was able to accept the payments, again of course with corresponding waiting times. Bockwurst and potato salad for €15 are quite an announcement.

I've been there several times and it's always been great, as they say. Only four stars today because I waited an hour and a half to not get a beer. I was simply ignored. When I complained, the waiter just looked at me blankly. I think it was too warm too many people at once. Can happen

Very nicely located on the Rhine. The food came very quickly, but was very expensive (39 euros) for a Wienerschnitzel with asparagus. Potatoes were cold and we immediately got new hot ones that were too salty. Service top. Prices excessive.

Not recommended, we ordered food and after 40 minutes we were informed that a meal was no longer available and a table that ordered after us received it.

Unfortunately everyone was overwhelmed. We just ordered drinks and it took them half an hour to find our table. It's a shame actually. Then we went somewhere else to eat.

Gute und sehr leckere Speisen zu hohen Preisen. Sehr zuvorkommender Service 👍🏽 Der Innenraum ist eher rudimentär ausgestattet allerdings in der kalten Jahreszeit brennt am Abend auch der Kachelofen was auch durchaus für Charme sorgt.

We had dinner here on a Wednesday and were very satisfied with the food. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes and the starter (Vitello Tonato) was also extremely well made. The location of the restaurant close to the Rhine is of course inviting and a big advantage, especially in spring and summer. The service was impeccable and attentive. Overall, highly recommended!

Christmas 2023 How lucky we were with our Christmas dinner! We got an appointment at short notice, the food was amazing! The price of starter soup, The main course and dessert were absolutely justified and the portions were generous. The service was very attentive and friendly, the ambience was tasteful. Thank you for relaxing hours. Addendum Christmas 2024: Again nothing was missing. We can only recommend the Zons ferry house! 🤩

Very nice restaurant right on the Rhine. The beer garden is great, but also highly recommended inside. The service is quick and attentive. Very tasty dishes and the apple spritzer looked similar to a cocktail. A lot of effort is put into everything.

We were walking in Zons today with friends and our dog, the Fährhaus Zons is located directly on the Rhine and it looks very inviting, it was no problem taking our dog into the restaurant, the service was very friendly, we ate schnitzel and it was very tasty. It wasn't the last time we were there and we can only recommend it

The location is good. You have a direct view of the Rhine and the ferry station. I can't judge what the house looks like. But outside, the ferry house could use a bucket of paint and some professional renovation. The service outside was friendly and drinks were brought quickly. The hot chocolate was also really hot and delicious. The latte macchiato was also good.

We stopped there for lunch on a day tour with the motorbikes. Himmel un Ääd was nicely presented and delicious. Pear instead of apple was a win for the dish!

Crazy expensive here! It used to be really nice here, but now the price is outrageous: a schnitzel for €31.50? Here? On a beer bench with bad service and a gas station toilet? Mayo 1.50€? Then it's better to visit a Viennese Schnitzel for home improvement in Düsseldorf's beautiful old town. for 19€ and a delicious soup at Robert am Rhein for under 10€. Sorry, but after these absurd price increases it's no longer worth the trip. (understandable that all the other guests I saw today only had drinks) Have a good trip with it 👋

We were only here for a short detour, but then we sat down and enjoyed the shade in the large beer garden... a look at the menu revealed tempting dishes at higher prices, which were also worth the chanterelles from Bruschetta. 😋 The tiny apple strudel, which was offered with vanilla sauce and vanilla ice cream, was rather disappointing - but then came without the vanilla sauce. My inquiry revealed that unfortunately it was out. Ok, that speaks for them, but I would have liked to have been informed, as the vanilla sauce was the deciding factor in my order. So I was faced with a fait accompli - and €9.90 was a lot. 🤷🏼‍♀️

A real highlight on the Rhine! Very well maintained and comfortably run location with indoor and outdoor areas (beer garden). The extremely nice staff! We stopped here briefly on our bike tour today. We actually planned to eat, but changed our mind after looking at the menu. The prices were pretty decent. There was nothing wrong with the service. Friendly and also quick. Unfortunately, the beer garden is getting quite old, which in my opinion spoils the feel-good factor. This would need an overhaul.

After waiting about 1 hour for our food, we unfortunately only received it little by little and it took a while until we finally had everything. A neighbor at the table had a maggot in his salad with cheese and he was promptly served it again after he had left it back. The other table neighbor had old baking paper on the spare ribs and the side salads were not fresh. If you ask for higher prices, the food should be perfect. Of course, you can excuse this with a lack of employees, but then you shouldn't offer so many seating options.

Very nice place. Especially to sit outside on a sunny summer evening. You look at the Rhine and the ferry and almost feel like you are in Northern Germany. Or like in Holland. We liked it a lot!

Ate delicious schnitzel. Service very friendly. Pepper cream sauce was really good. However, the mushroom cream sauce lacked a bit of creaminess.

Great atmosphere in the garden when the weather is nice. The quality and price of the food have no relationship. For a beer garden, €38 for a Wienerschnitzel or €20 for a rather poor Pinsa is significantly overpriced. The menu, which was put online five years ago, lists the Wienerschnitzel for €19.50 and the Wiener-style pork schnitzel for €12.50 (today €28). Price increases and inflation should not be confused with usury.

We took a company bike tour there. I made reservations for 15 people early on Friday afternoon. Due to the bad weather (rain) there were only six of us. Some canceled shortly beforehand, others not at all. When we were in the location for about 15 minutes. When we arrived late, we were called at the bike parking area, where we would stay, and also "hit", which is why we didn't let them know that there were fewer of us. I can understand the restaurateur wanting to plan, but for me the situation was so unpredictable... The bad thing about the whole issue is that the shop was almost empty and there was no reason to make stupid comments to the guests. The next thing that got in the way was our bicycle luggage, which was then put away. I didn't realize at first that it was pointed out to us that it was disruptive. I would have liked to clear that up myself. Then there was a brief "unrest" because our smaller group had tables moved around. After ordering, the drinks and food arrived relatively quickly. It should also be mentioned here that it is not only cheeky but shameless and audacious to dare to place a beer glass on the table more than 1 finger below the calibration mark given the very, very high prices. That is not how it works !!! The fact is, you would like to be an upscale restaurant and act like it is, but you will never achieve this status. As a matter of principle I will not visit this store again. The gastronomic landscape in Zons is extensive. There are certainly better hosts.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend the ferry house. The ambience is good and the service is attentive. But the price performance borders on a crime. If I order the most expensive piece of beef and, firstly, I don't ask how I want it and secondly, it comes from the freezer, that's just outrageous. If you charge 10 euros for it, that's justifiable, but soon 40 euros is simply ridiculous.

Wir hatten z.B. den Zander mit Kartoffeln und grünem Spargel bestellt, Kosten 30,-€ Es kam ein kleines halbes Filetstück, in Größe von knapp 10 Zentimeter und genau 3 dünnen Stangen Spargel, dazu ein paar Kartoffeln. Unverschämter Preis.

Some get huge portions, others a touch of nothing. For example, we ordered the pike perch with potatoes and green asparagus, cost €30. It came with a small half-piece of fillet, just under 10 centimeters in size, and exactly 3 thin stalks of asparagus, plus a few potatoes. Outrageous price.

Good selection of food, but in our opinion too expensive to eat with the whole family as part of a spontaneous visit to the beer garden: large fries with mayo for 9 euros, tarte flambée 15.50 euros, bockwurst with fries 12.90 euros, soup of the day 9 euros... Somehow that doesn't fit. But let everyone decide for themselves. We left it with a drink.

Even on a typical excursion day like Father's Day, when all the seats in the restaurant are occupied, you should keep an overview of the service. At the beginning the drinks were delivered incorrectly and it was only when the food was served that we noticed that no drinks had been brought to the table. Schnitzel delivered with wrong sauce, The quality was also probably due to the hectic pace of Father's Day. We will try again when things are a little quieter as the location and ambience are really nice.
