Essbar Bochum in Bochum

We were looking for a restaurant near the Ruhrpark and were not disappointed! Delicious Greek food, fast and friendly service, and a lovely atmosphere. One small criticism: the dressing on the side salad was far too sweet for us, but everything was still perfect!

A very nice restaurant in the tennis club. The food is delicious and the service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

You get good food. Nice, friendly staff.

The gyros and meat skewers are tender and delicious. The grilled salmon was very juicy and a decent size, and the vegetables were crunchy. 👌🏼 There's always a salad to start the meal—and ouzo on the house at the end.

This was my first time as a guest at the Essbar, and it was fantastic. Delicious food, great dessert. They serve homemade ice cream. I'd love to come back. Thank you for the lovely evening. Edit: We were guests at the Essbar again on Saturday, June 21, 2025, with eight people. Everything was perfect again, thank you so much.

We went out to eat as a family of three, and all three of us can only say "AMAZING." Nice, friendly staff, and the food was truly delicious. We enjoy eating out and can say that in years, this restaurant has been one of the best. Unfortunately, the journey would be too far for us to return, but if we're in the area again, we'd love to. 👍

Unfortunately, we're not so impressed with the restaurant anymore. The last time we visited, the food was forgotten. The waiters kept walking, and none of them noticed that we hadn't received our food. After an hour, I asked if we'd been forgotten, but the waitress didn't comment. They only apologized when the food was brought. The bill showed a drink from another table, and they didn't apologize for that either. It was a real shame! It was my favorite restaurant.

We always enjoyed eating here often. But unfortunately, things have deteriorated considerably. The starter was forgotten, and the main courses were served simultaneously and lukewarm (easy on the stomach). Lamb fillet €25 (4 strips on the plate). When we asked for dessert, we received a rude and annoyed reply that it would be right away. After waiting 15 minutes, my husband went to the counter to find the waitress who was supposed to take our order. No luck! A young, friendly waiter then took charge of our table. Conclusion: We wouldn't recommend it to friends who are used to a pleasant evening with appropriate food and service.

A very good restaurant in itself, with very good food, etc. However, the service that day wasn't so good. One of the staff seemed a bit unmotivated right from the start. Later, we asked for a bifteki without anything, meaning no salad, etc. What we got was a bifteki with everything. We then said that we wanted ONLY the bifteki and not the rest. They took it away and then gave us exactly that one bifteki. What was on the bill later? The whole bifteki for something like €13.

Yes, anytime, but with a table reservation!

Hey We were there after it opened and it was fantastic, but unfortunately, that's no longer the case. The food was good, but not as outstanding as we experienced at your place, and the service was unfortunately poor. We had to ask for more information several times, and the waitress unfortunately forgot one or two things. We also had to order the bill three times, which is a real shame. We also found the lighting inside a bit too dim. While very cozy, it's a bit impractical for a restaurant. We'll try again in a few weeks; maybe it will improve. ;)

Delicious food with great service and a cool location

The Essbar restaurant convinced us. Particularly noteworthy is the extremely attentive and friendly service. We were asked very often whether everything was to our satisfaction and new drinks were brought promptly. We were impressed by both the extensive and tasty starter platter and the rich main course. We recommend the Essbar restaurant and would be happy to come back!

First of all, I have to say that the food was very tasty and the manager of the restaurant was extremely friendly. However, the service staff today was without exception a disaster. A side dish was forgotten in a group of 8 people (of course this can happen) and we therefore had to discuss with 2 service staff to get it. Drinks were regularly brought incorrectly or incompletely. Plates were cleared and brought over a sleeping baby in a stroller. Unfortunately, these experiences detract from the good food

Wow, what a Greek restaurant! The restaurant is somewhat inconspicuous, located in a tennis hall/club. The food was absolutely excellent. The meat on the skewers was super tender and wonderfully seasoned. The gyro was nice and crispy. The baked/fried(?) onions that came with Grill Plate 1 were simply fantastic. I would have loved to eat a whole plate of them. We will definitely eat here again.

I ate here for the first time with my wife today and it won't be the last time. Were very happy with everything, both the food and the service were brilliant. Thank God the ambience is different from that of a Greek restaurant.

First time there and certainly not the last time. The food tastes good, but the service leaves something to be desired: I have never sat in a restaurant for 2 hours and only had one drink. It seemed to me as if all the waitresses were just waiting for the end of the day. The prices are ok. The atmosphere... definitely nice in the summer, but now in the winter I was happy to have thick winter boots. Let's see what the next visit will be like.

It's sad when there are no gyros even though you have reserved, got your seat and then 60% of all dishes that can be ordered are lost. A call costs nothing or at least the information when you enter the restaurant. Would have been great, unfortunately not a recommendation from us.

We sat on the terrace, which in winter was only closed by a tarpaulin, so it wasn't quite as cozy and warm... Otherwise, a very cozy atmosphere and nicely furnished, the staff was very, very friendly... directly attached to a tennis club, so there were good parking options, at least in winter. The food was typically Greek and the price/performance was great. We made reservations again, so we'd be happy to do so again

We were sitting in the winter garden - there was a bowl on the table into which it dripped through the leaky roof. The temperature was uncomfortably cool as there is only a plastic tarpaulin as an outer wall. The warm appetizer platter consisted of boringly fried foods. The cold one was really tasty. The liver was a shoe sole, the bifteki a dream. Overall a very mixed experience.

The edible didn't really convince me! Yes, the gyro meat was lean but still juicy and the steakhouse fries were delicious! However, for just under €16, the portion was a bit too manageable for me! Unfortunately the veal liver was grilled to death, firm and dry! 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ The service was good👍

I highly recommend everything perfect food service perfect saganaki perfect grilling in the meat delicious even the salad is sweet, in general, nice dishes, and a warm welcoming terrace. Staff excellent!! Whatever you want to find in a restaurant, we will definitely go again!!!!!

My wife & I are regulars here. The food and the ambience are above average. You should make a reservation here as the shop is in high demand.

A great restaurant with very tasty food.

The food is really delicious. Vegan, vegetarian, meat. All dishes are freshly prepared. There is something for everyone. The service staff is very courteous. The offer is great. The decoration is simply beautiful. We have already celebrated a few birthdays in the Essbar. The little guests are also taken care of. There is a small play area. The terrace can be used in summer and winter. A little hidden paradise.

Just cozy at Christmas time with all the lights. Food great! Will definitely go back

I have to laugh: someone here gives 1 star and writes that he doesn't know how so many good reviews come about 😂 Simply because HIS isn't true! You CANNOT rate this restaurant, this chef badly: the food is divine and I mean what I write here! The service is so nice and courteous and quick and very good, they forget NOTHING, not a drink, not a dish, not even a fork! Thank God we live nearby and come here regularly to celebrate this team and this chef and to eat really, really well 👍

Unfortunately the meat was not well seasoned and was very firm. I've eaten better in other Greek restaurants. The service handed out beer to the guests.

That was absolutely nothing! One star is still overrated! Ordered 10 dishes, completely forgot one. It only came when everyone was ready. The meat was fried dead and the fries were cold. The service is a disgrace, the waitress would rather stand outside and smoke and play on her cell phone than bring the drinks that were ordered 20 minutes ago. Can't recommend, the reviews are incomprehensible.

Very well prepared and tasty dishes. Everything fresh, delicious and homemade; The creative ice cream variants are also made in-house. It was our first but not the last time in the Essbar. When we arrived at rush hour late on Sunday afternoon, we could only be offered a seat inside because we hadn't made a reservation. Since the large patio doors were wide open, we felt like we were sitting outside. We already noticed the delicious vinaigrette on the salad. Gyros gratinated with Metaxa sauce and Bifteki were also very tasty. To finish, we chose - for two people - the baked figs in orange sauce with vanilla ice cream and cream, which were a hit! Completely satisfied and completely round, we can absolutely recommend the Essbar.

Very good menu, varied but not overloaded. Excellent service, very friendly. The work processes are very well divided and optimized among the staff, so that there is no unrest despite the restaurant being full. Prices are okay for what you get. The food itself is incredibly tasty and prepared with love, not overly seasoned and not too bland. It's important to book in advance as the restaurant is deservedly very popular. It's definitely not the last time I've been here. Thank you for the lovely time here and the delicious food.

Good Greek next door to a tennis club.

The restaurant tester has nothing to complain about. While looking for a Greek restaurant in Bochum we came across the Essbar. Without a reservation we were lucky that we were allowed to stay. We ordered different dishes, all of them were very tasty. The staff were very friendly and attentive. What should be emphasized is the good price-performance ratio. The only small flaw was the open door to the preparation room when you walk from the entrance into the restaurant.

Wir waren mit dem Essen und dem Service sehr zufrieden. Trotz vollem Haus und viel Hektik hat alles bestens geklappt. Essen war gut abgeschmeckt und nicht von Gewürzen überlagert. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall noch mal wieder!

Super Weihnachtlich geschmückt, wouw, waren alle begeistert. Personal kompetent und freundlich. Obwohl es voll war, bekamen wir schon nach 1/2 Stunde komplett unser bestelltes Essen für 8 Personen. Immer wieder gerne hin.
