A nostalgically decorated restaurant with excellent cuisine. A large outdoor area with table service, but also a cheaper drinks counter.

We had reserved a table for 14 people for dinner. The ambiance was very rustic but cozy. The staff welcomed us warmly. Unfortunately, my Kaiserschmarrn was served burnt, so it was easy to complain and exchange it. The next one wasn't particularly good either. The other guests were very satisfied with their food. The only thing that doesn't fit in this restaurant is the water from Italy! There are certainly regional alternatives here.

If the pork knuckle always looks like my photo, you can't complain for €17.90! Everything was great, not too salty, cooked properly, and the potatoes still had a bit of a bite to them. Very good! I can only praise the service; everything went very quickly for a packed restaurant. We'd love to come back.

We hold a meeting here every few years. From the phone reservation, to the extremely friendly service, the excellent food, and the lovely atmosphere, we can only give it top marks. Since I'm using a wheelchair this year, I was immediately offered other, more suitable seating options with such warmth that I felt well looked after and comfortable. I can only thank the entire team, also on behalf of my fellow attendees, for their care and foresight, which will ensure I return.

I had a hunter's pan that was practically swimming in oil and had been in the pan for far too long. The schnitzel wasn't much better, as the flavor of the sauce didn't come through. It's a shame, as the restaurant is so beautifully located, the ambiance quaint and cozy, but the food was disappointing.

I visited this restaurant on a weekday afternoon during a trip to Berlin from Korea in October 2024. The duck I had here was the most delicious I've had during my entire trip to Germany. As it happens, I've left Korea and am living in Germany in 2025, but if I ever return to Dessau, I'll definitely be dining at this restaurant!

A nice place. My ordered dish was good, but not outstanding. The price, however, was reasonable. How could it be otherwise?

Disastrous service and disrespect for and threats to the guests. This was our first time in Dessau and we were happy to find a free table today around 6:30 PM WITHOUT a "Reserved" sign, and we sat down. A young employee brought us the menu. After a while, a young blonde employee came over and suddenly ordered us to get up and leave the table: "It's reserved for 6:45 PM..." We pointed out that there was no "Reserved" sign on the table and that we had already received a menu. Then the manager came over emphatically: "You have to get up and leave the table now." Unfortunately, there was NO apology and that they were perhaps sorry for the mistake. We: "This is a management error, we would like to stay here." The manager's response: "That's not possible, he doesn't care, we're welcome to complain and will have to wait a long time for our food!" Then another older, overly strong employee came over and rudely ordered us: "Leave the table immediately, the guests will be here soon." We did just that, and through no fault of our own, we felt unwanted and threatened. It was supposed to be a lovely evening on vacation. Fortunately, we were warmly welcomed afterward at the "Teahouse" restaurant, where we received friendly service and a delicious meal.

I attended a school enrollment today and was very disappointed. Waiting well over an hour for food is far too long. But the problem seems to be well known, judging by the reviews here. Why don't you just accept fewer guests if you know you can't manage? The portions and quality don't match the very, very high prices. They hardly dared to speak to the service...everyone was very irritated and stressed. The ambiance outside was well done. All in all, not a recommendation!

After a very long wait for the food, it was cold and not what I expected. We were a group of six, and three of them were disappointed with the food. Perhaps due to the service offered for the huge price. Drinks were slow to arrive several times throughout the evening. All in all, a weak 3. We hope for improvement!

This has been a regular restaurant for years. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio has deteriorated significantly. I've been monitoring it for six months now. And it's always been that way; it's fine to use ready-made potato products, as long as the quality is really good. Especially when the name says it all.

We were there twice, the first and last time... after waiting forever we left quite annoyed without eating, even though we hadn't ordered anything special because it was advertised in large quantities in the entrance area, pork knuckle with sauerkraut, something like that is ready in the kitchen in large quantities... the cheap perfume of one of the waitresses was almost unpleasant, there are jobs where that is desired, but please not in a restaurant

Unfortunately, the four main courses we ordered were mediocre to poor in terms of quality of ingredients and taste. For the price, you'd definitely expect more. The staff was also unfriendly. You can't go wrong with a restaurant like this.

We stopped by Kartoffelhaus for a spontaneous meal on Saturday. We noticed that when you have tables outside the restaurant, you have to make sure that the waiters check in regularly to see if new guests have arrived. Several guests then left again. This needs to be improved.

It was reasonably okay. The schnitzel was crispy but only lukewarm. The mushroom cream sauce and the six much too small croquettes were also just lukewarm. The taste was okay, though.

Essen im Retro-Ambiente. Entweder in abgeschiedenem Eck oder am großen Tisch unter der Kunstlinde. Witzig gestaltete Speisekarte und alles was man aus Kartoffeln kochen kann. Bedienung sehr nett und geschmeckt hat es auch.

I don't give one star. If there are tables and chairs outside. You can also expect a condition to come. It's 17 degrees but you can still sit outside. Waited 20 minutes for a waiter. Then we went further. That doesn't work at all. Next door is better. Not again

After 2008 or 2009, we went to the 1st Dessau potato house again today. We are always looking for good German cuisine and since we still had an Anhalt voucher we wanted to see how good the cuisine is here (according to the menu on the internet - very interesting). We were already at Lokheim on Saturday, great German cuisine, incredibly nice service, really good. And here today, exactly the same. The service was super nice, always there to ensure that nothing was missing without being intrusive. This is an art that we really liked. And then the food, I can only say: “Absolutely top”. Everyone was super happy, the portions were barely manageable and really tasty. Most of those present definitely want to go again because everything was perfect, ambience, service, food. I'll put it simply: "Congratulations." A little delicacy, you can also take a measure here. I wish the owners all the best, keep it up...

Really great service! I didn't have to wait long for service. Food and drinks also came very quickly. But the best thing was... the waitress brought my dog ​​a water bowl without me saying anything!! Service like this is something very special! Thank you for that!

Unfortunately, I had to realize today that you can't and shouldn't always rely on the reviews. I'm aware that you have to expect a waiting time when ordering, but the fact that the four of us had to wait over an hour for the food was crazy. And the restaurant wasn't full by any stretch of the imagination. The food was okay but unfortunately some of it was cold and the fried potatoes were swimming in fat. With one exception, the staff only became friendlier and more attentive when the mood at our table and the table next door became more angry. Unfortunately I have to say that it was my first but also my last visit to the potato house.

The food was okay. The fried potatoes weren't really hot, weren't crispy and tasted burnt. There was far too little curd in the foil potato. The menu published online is no longer up to date and the prices have almost doubled in some cases. We also had to wait over an hour for two dishes. However, the staff was very friendly. There were almost no vegetarian options. I wouldn't recommend the restraunt.

The potato house is slowly getting old. We had a chair broken, the tables were sticking, my coffee saucer was dirty, dishes were stained, I was there a lot, I think that was my last time. Maybe you shouldn't go to the same restaurant so often, because you'll see things you wouldn't want to see. The prices there are pretty high even compared to other restaurants. Over €40 for one person. I hope the staff is at least paid accordingly.

The ambience is great, everything is very rustic, which fits perfectly with the taproom. The toilets are clean, although there is rather little water pressure in the men's room. The menu is sufficiently large, not overwhelming in terms of the number of dishes. Service was quick and friendly. The price is already higher up. With schnitzel dishes from €20. The meals also came to the table very quickly and hot. The food itself was beautifully presented. The only thing that was a shame was that some of the egg in the hamburger schnitzel was completely lost and there was no sauce. I also found the rather large amount of salad to be portioned a bit unnecessarily.

It's been a long time since we, two Dresdeners, had such a pleasant visit to a restaurant as we had last night with our Dessau friends. Brilliant atmosphere, friendly welcome, a super nice, open-minded waiter accompanied us until we said goodbye. All food and drinks were top notch. Keep it up, we'll definitely be back.

Really a great restaurant. The service was quick and attentive and the food was really tasty (ox cheeks and veal liver). After asking the waiter, we even received a lot of good information about Hobusch herbal liqueur. Very happy again.

Had a family celebration. Unfortunately the quality of the food has deteriorated very much. Duck was not crispy, very limp. Sauce was too salty [vertig sauce]. Seasoned meat was from the day before, just warmed up. The rest of the family weren't convinced either, the meat was rather tough and the pasta wasn't cooked through. The Brussels sprout leaves were missing from the pike perch. Prices are too expensive for the poor quality. In general, the potato house is no longer recommended. We decided to eat here at short notice. A reservation was not necessary - there is enough space here. The staff is very friendly and can answer questions about food competently. The food (fried liver with apple and mashed potatoes / half duck with your choice of croquettes) was very good. We'd love to come back here.

Really good meal. Although almost all dinner options in Dessau were closed on Monday evening, a nice Hamburger schnitzel was prepared for me. Plus a potato and cucumber salad and fresh potato bread. The service was good and quick, but the restaurant was almost empty. I enjoyed it and liked it. A visit is therefore worth it.

Took a break in Dessau on the way through and ended up here by chance. Super nice reception Casual, fast, lovely conditions There are still some who have mastered their craft. Ambience very cozy with a mix of rustic and antiques. Very nice. Third point, the food, unfortunately the food was so delicious that you had to finish it😄 Not good for the hips but whatever. The sirloin pan and the liver with potato-celery puree were perfect. Greetings to the kitchen. When we come back to Dessau we'll go to the EDK.😂

Well, there's room for improvement. Service wasn't particularly attentive, only wiping the outside table superficially when asked. Roast meat okay, onions good, fried potatoes cold and rubber. Bavarian pan was quite good except for the sauce, which was too intense. Went to the restaurant to pay, we still had plans.

The welcome was very friendly, after that nothing came for ages... no menu... ordering drinks took forever, the food took more than half an hour and when it came it was lukewarm... After being spoken to, they gave me a 10 percent discount. The restaurant visit couldn't be enhanced with that. It's a shame!!

Strange visit to this potato house. So if you put so much focus on the potato, the fried potatoes I had were a disaster. Fried potatoes, which I usually like better in East Germany than at home, include bacon and onions. There was neither here, just seasoning salt and oil. It wouldn't surprise me if the fried potatoes were pre-made from the bag/bucket. The potato cubes/fried potatoes looked suspiciously the same no matter what plate or pan they were on. The chicken breast was normal and the quantity was ok. The ambience was rather rustic, very woody with some watering cans decorated in a farmer's style. It wasn't really my thing. The service was attentive and friendly, but despite having ordered in advance, the food took some time. In addition, the service was a bit confusing, as someone asked for espresso and it was ordered, but the waiter walked back and forth several times without us knowing whether the order had been taken or not. With the few drops of espresso you were served, you couldn't speak of well-crafted coffee, let alone the art of coffee. I have to agree with the other commenters that the price-performance ratio is absolutely not right. For these prices I legitimately expect more. All in all, a pretty disappointing visit. For the money I eat better elsewhere and pay maybe a little more than half as much. I will only return to this restaurant under peer pressure, if at all.

We were spontaneously invited to dinner at the Dessau potato house and were totally thrilled. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was very nice despite it being very busy. The offer is sufficient for everyone. I can only recommend it to everyone.

We were registered with 8 people and were already in the beer garden an hour beforehand. We experienced fast and flexible service. Unfortunately I have to deduct points when it comes to food. The schnitzel was fried quite “rustically”. I couldn't eat that. After the complaint there was movement and I immediately received a fresh salad as an apology and the note... the chef will take care of a replacement meal. It came pretty quickly and was tasty. Therefore, a big compliment to the speed of reaction from the staff. The food took less than 10 minutes to be served and was tasty. In the end everything is fine.

I've been going there for decades. I'm very satisfied. Price performance is ok and it always tastes very good and the facilities are super nice. The staff is great and always very polite.

I had dinner at a street table outside this traditional German eatery close to the town hall of Dessau. Calf's liver Berliner art was on the menu for this night with an ongoing pole vault competition about 100 m away in front of the town hall. I learnt a bit about German Spätburgunders, not knowing they even make a sweet variant which was brought to my table served at above 30 degrees temperature to accompany my calf's liver. When I informed the waiter the wine was undrinkable he asked me what I thought he should do with it. Luckily someone more intelligent came to my table after a while and we sorted it out to my entire satisfaction. So be careful with what you order to drink if you don't know the local habits and rules. By the way the winner jumped 5.82, not too bad for a street evening event.

The food tastes good but the price-performance ratio is problematic. 16 euros for a medium-sized baked potato with very little sliced ​​meat is excessive. Nicely located in the center, we decided to stop here. Friendly welcome in a pleasant atmosphere, we took a seat on the terrace and enjoyed the beautiful weather at the same time. The offering is diverse and appealing. I chose the Hamburger Schnitzel and my sweetheart chose the baked potato filled with smoked salmon and sour cream. When we are here for work, we eat here relatively regularly. We really liked the waiter on our first visit. He is professional, friendly, funny and quick, and very likeable. The atmosphere is typically German-rustic, lots of bells and whistles, but still cozy. Since we are usually only in Dessau in winter, we have only sat outside twice. The outdoor area is also really nicely decorated. All the dishes I've had so far have been very well prepared, with the exception of a few little things that aren't worth mentioning. The portions are more than sufficient and the dishes are harmonious. We're always happy to come back to you! Oh yes, the rosé wine is also praiseworthy!
