El Greco in Norderney

Wow – usually a fan of gyros topped with Metaxxa (my wife always teases me about why I even accept a menu 😉), I opted for ElGreco gyros: gyros with a feta and garlic sauce and topped with Edam cheese. I'll definitely be looking for that at my usual Greek restaurant in Münster next time – and if they don't have it, I'll ask if they can make it for me 🥰 Very friendly service, thank you for the lovely last evening!

We had a mixed grill and gyros with melted cheese. Both tasted great and there was plenty of meat. The only downside was the small amount of fries with the mixed grill, but overall it was good! We'd gladly come again, highly recommended!

Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience. While we were greeted politely by a staff member, the owner responded to our request for a table for two with a loud outburst of cursing ("6:30 pm without a reservation!"), without greeting us or even glancing at us. Given such a reception, we left immediately. Perhaps it was naive to think we could simply go out for dinner on our arrival day, a Tuesday in October, without having made a reservation from home, but that's no excuse for being rude. Apparently, though, they can get away with it when the ferry brings in new potential customers every day. Luckily, we found a table at Gran Café Veneziano and received friendly and professional service there.

The gyro meat is high quality, as it's free of cartilage and fat. The staff this evening were extremely competent. The food arrived within minutes.

We had dinner here yesterday. The service was good and the atmosphere very pleasant. We got a table right away this time. During peak season, reservations are required. Unfortunately, there were no chicken breast or turkey dishes on the menu. Nevertheless, we found something we liked and it tasted very good. We'd gladly come back again.

Disappointing Experience – Lack of Respect for Guests We had reserved a table for seven people. Upon entering the restaurant, we were neither greeted nor acknowledged, a rude start. Shortly thereafter, an older waiter (presumably the owner) rudely asked us to change seats because my aunt's dog was not allowed to sit on the left side. Although the address was inappropriate, we immediately complied with his request. A short time later, the waiter returned and asked us to move again, this time because there were only six of us. When we politely pointed out his unfriendly tone, he didn't respond with any understanding but, on the contrary, became even more rude and disrespectful. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable for us in the restaurant industry. Respect and courtesy should be a given – especially when dealing with paying guests. We are certain: We will not visit this restaurant again.

The food and service were quite good. The owner was anything but friendly. He behaved very rudely and arrogantly toward us. The matter is now closed for us.

Even one star per category is still too much. Unfortunately, receiving "special" service as an individual is often the case. The El Greco is an exception here... it gets even worse than "special"! Free tables by the window weren't offered; the obligatory cat table next to the kitchen entrance was supposed to be. The drink was "just casually" placed on the table opposite my seat. The same thing happened to the salad and the plate with the main course. Just as I was passing by. Without exception, the food was tasteless, with the meat topping everything and being gristly (ugh!!!). As we all know, you eat with your eyes. At El Greco, you were left hungry. The waitress who took the money from the neighboring table was apparently very weak and had to lean on my table for support. I would consider the look on her backside, which "looked" me directly in the face, to be caring. (Something must have been positive, after all.) I then immediately asked another waitress for the bill. She just said, "Now I do," and looked at my still-full plate. The attentive lady then dutifully asked me at the checkout if I enjoyed my meal. I said no and was then allowed to pay the full amount. I probably would have had to pay even more for an apology. I didn't mind.

We spontaneously stopped by tonight. We've rarely eaten so well. We'll be back.

While searching for cozy restaurants in the evening, we came across the Greek restaurant EL Graeco. It's best to make a reservation in advance. It gets busy quickly after 5 p.m. The food was very good and plentiful. The prices were reasonable for Norderney. The service staff were very friendly and accommodating. We'd be happy to return. The restaurant is located right in the city center.

Even without a reservation, it's possible to get a table. The food was delicious. The service was average. Contactless payment with Visa is refused. Instead, guests are asked to leave a deposit and go to the nearest bank with their debit card, which I didn't need anywhere on the entire island of Norderney. Very unfriendly to customers.

The busy wait staff was friendly, but they were from all over the world, but not from Greece, as was the ambiance and decor. 🙃 The food was simply bad. I had gyros with a souflaki skewer. I had to add more seasoning to the meat, the fries were overcooked, and there wasn't enough on the plate for the price. The ouzo after payment doesn't make up for anything. 😉 El Greco needs to be renamed El Brecho. 🤢

A truly solid place if you're in the mood for some typical meat-based cuisine. The food was absolutely excellent, the drinks and ouzo were delicious, and the service was attentive and friendly.

If the standard Greek is enough for you, you'll be well served here, but the price-performance ratio is definitely not right, it urgently needs to be readjusted. I can't make a recommendation here

We were here spontaneously. We were immediately offered a high chair for our daughter and a place to park the buggy. The food was very tasty and plentiful. The service was also very good and the staff was very friendly and helpful. No credit cards are accepted. EC cards, yes.

Food was good. Ambience not bad. Service, however, was subpar. Despite a reservation, we had to wait 30 minutes until we were seated, outside... in January. Rude to new customers. I don't think there will be another visit to the restaurant.

Spontaneously got a place for 2, tasty, cheap and good portion

Spontan für zwei Personen ohne Reservierung einen Tisch bekommen. Sehr nettes Personal trotz vollen Restaurant. Essen war absolut lecker und frisch, das Fleisch sehr saftig, die Pommes knackig, ein sehr einfacher Krautsalat ohne Schnickschnack mit tollem Geschmack. Das Tzaziki war der absolute Hammer. Kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

My review is based on a true story. We had reserved a table. When we arrived we said that unfortunately two people had become ill at short notice. As a result we no longer got our table! Yes, it sounds strange, but it is true! We then had to wait 30 minutes, outside at -1°C… We actually waited… unfortunately! First a woman with long hair served us; she was a bit unfriendly. Our food came quite quickly, unfortunately mine wasn't complete. So I called the waitress; I was then rudely pointed out (in a very unfriendly tone): “I’ll bring it straight away…” The food was okay, tzatziki and mayonnaise cost extra! We were in a good mood and laughed sometimes. The owner then came and said: “We have to be quieter!” Apparently other guests had complained… We were then able to order something to drink because a friendly young waiter came! When we were almost finished and thought about ordering something else, the owner didn't even come to us and kindly told us that it would be nice if we left slowly... Reason: It's quite crowded and others also want to eat... I will Don't eat there again...

Ich war heute Abend mit meiner Mutter, die einen Rollator braucht, im El Greco. Wir hatten reserviert und wurden von dem Chef cholerisch beschimpft, weil wir uns an einen falschen Tisch gesetzt hatten. Ich wäre sofort gegangen, aber meine Mutter wollte bleiben. Das Essen war durchschnittlich, die Pommes hart und der Krautsalat eher aus einem Fertigeimer. Generell ist das Ambiente eher eine Massenabfertigung.

The food was excellent, the appetizer platter for 2 people was great and highly recommended in terms of value for money. Unfortunately we didn't manage to do everything, it's a shame, but it was too much.

Während unseres Urlaubs auf Norderney haben wie dieses Restaurant zweimal aufgesucht und waren beide Male sehr zufrieden. Obwohl wir nicht reserviert hatten, bekamen wir sofort einen guten Tisch. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Der Wein und das Essen waren sehr gut und es gab nichts auszusetzen, auf Norderney würden wir dieses griechische Restaurant immer wieder gerne aufsuchen. Die teilweise schlechten Bewertungen sind für uns nicht nachvollziehbar.

I ordered for take out and it was ready within 20 minutes. When I entered I was immediately greeted and asked what my order was. I was even offered an Uzo. Food was still warm when I got home (about a 10 minute walk) and a decent portion! It was very tasty and great value for money. Gladly again on your next vacation.

We ate at Greco as a group of men (without excessive alcohol consumption). Even the greeting was borderline. The question about a free table outside was rudely rejected. When we laughed out loud, we were immediately warned to reduce the volume. The mood was in the basement. Starters were great, the main courses were poor until it worked.

I had a meal there with my family and it was delicious, but the wait was long, otherwise the service was good and nice.

I called to reserve a table. Was rudely complained on the phone that he didn't have forever while I checked the time for a moment (maximum 2 second interruption in the conversation). Unfortunately, the time wasn't right and we were quickly brushed off with an unfriendly goodbye. I can't say anything about the restaurant but the phone call was very deterring

We had dinner in the restaurant today. The food arrived super quickly and tasted very good. We were sitting in the entrance area and you could see how the boss was commanding his employees, which I found very negative. Then all the comfort went away. The employees seemed noticeably stressed by the boss. It's a shame, I feel sorry for the people because without them the restaurant wouldn't exist.

We felt very welcome. Food was very tasty. Greek wine is recommended. Everything perfect. 🤗

Proven Greek quality in sufficient quantities at fair prices

There were two of us there with a small child and we were offered a high chair and a space for the stroller. The food was served quickly and tasted very good, the prices were reasonable. Gladly again.

Bereits vor Ankunft auf der Insel Tisch für Sonntag 19h gebucht, was zwingend erforderlich war. Zum Essen: Gyros war aus, statt Pommes kam Reis, statt großem Bier ein kleines, Souflaki war mal zart mal hart, Standard-Krautsalat aus dem großen Eimer. Im Fazit: man war bemüht aber überfordert und hat die letzten Jahre nix dazu gelernt. Sorry, Touriabfertigung.

We (5 people) wanted to eat Greek and googled and came across this restaurant. So let's go and order some food. Every meal was excellent and the service was friendly and funny. Drinks cold and price/performance completely ok. I can only recommend it wholeheartedly.

First the positive. We were able to reserve a table straight away for the same day and our dog wasn't a problem at all. No tzatziki was served with the gyros and souvlaki skewers. But we weren't told beforehand. It costs extra. Fries were brought three times without mayo, despite ordering. After reminding us twice, 1 x mayo was served in the disposable bag 😳 We then voluntarily refrained from reminding us about the rest again. The meat was seasoned far too subtly for us. In fact, there was hardly any spice to be tasted. We had 1 bottle of water and our son 2 glasses of cola. The whole thing for just under €90!!! Despite the island surcharge, it's too expensive for what's on offer. Neither the service, nor the quality of the meat, nor the quantity justified it. There was an ouzo on the house with the bill... At least 😉

Almost all seats are free - you wait 5 minutes at reception. Nothing happened. When we wanted to take a seat we were sent away according to the motto you have to make a reservation. And the sound! Already rude. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE. This is how you get rid of guests!!

Das Essen war in Ordnung und entsprach den Erwartungen. Was ich in einem Restaurant nicht akzeptiere : Die Bedienung führte 4 Personen an den eng stehenden Nachbartisch. Diese hatten 2 größere, langfellige, nasse und entsprechend " duftende " Hunde dabei. Auf meine Intervention hin wechselten die Hundebesitzer unter süffisanten Kommentaren den Tisch. In einem Imbiss mag das angehen, ein Restaurant sollte allerdings gewisse Standards einhalten.
