Downtown in Gera

The last time I was there was 20 years ago when I was a teenager. 😅 Almost nothing has changed. Unfortunately, the sofa fabrics are pretty torn; they could really use some updating. I liked the nostalgic atmosphere.

My first visit to Downtown. I received a very friendly welcome and service. A wide variety of food and drinks of very good quality. Relatively large portions at below-average prices. The place describes itself as a pub, bar, café, pub, and restaurant all in one. This is certainly true. The ambiance is cozy and rustic. I'd be happy to come back anytime.

Called spontaneously and went straight to downtown Gera for dinner – a stylish cellar location with a special flair. We were greeted warmly, were allowed to look around and choose a seat ourselves. The entrance is to the right of the stairs, you can find it straight away the second time you go. The food was high quality, beautifully prepared and tasted great - what you pay is clearly reflected in the quality. By the way, the drinking there is amazing - there's something for everyone. Absolutely recommended for a special evening!

The food was very tasty 😋, we received excellent service in a friendly manner with a nice smile 👍. I rate the ambience a three, the noise level is very high, the restaurant was very busy and quite (loud)... and then there was the loud music from the bar area... phew... it was exhausting to follow my conversation with people. Table was pre-booked, so no waiting time.

The drink selection is good, the food was okay. Unfortunately we had to wait a full 2.5 hours for our food. Despite the bill being over €300, the only excuse was a round of shots. Unfortunately, a factual complaint was dismissed by the boss with an unprofessional “Now don’t attack me like that.” Unfortunately disappointing.

Die Getränkeauswahl ist gut, die Speisen waren in Ordnung. Leider mussten wir ganze 2,5 Stunden auf unser Essen warten. Trotz Rechnung von über € 300,- gab es als Entschuldigung lediglich eine Runde Shots. Eine sachliche Beschwerde wurde vom Chef leider mit einem unprofessionellen ‘Jetzt geh mich nicht so an’ abgetan. Leider enttäuschend.

No matter what day and what time. Paul's is always open, there's always something going on and the service is always friendly. The drinks menu is huge and the food is always delicious.

The food is just bad. Not even the potatoes have any taste. We were here on New Year's Eve, so I don't know if the regular prices are lower. An apple juice costs €6.50, you pay everything extra and a small portion of salmon with a baked potato costs €32. Burger patty was very hard and thick. The restaurant is not recommended.

The staff tried very hard. The boss pointed out to us right before we ordered that it would take longer for the food to be served because everything was made fresh. The food was very good and there was a huge selection of drinks. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy.

A small universe dedicated to discovery. Such a place is an incredible challenge to discover the bouquet, the aroma, the taste of a rare, unique whiskey/rum or cognac without having to spend the airfare, accommodation or time required for such experiences in Scotland Caribbean or France are required. Great ambience, especially on warm evenings, but also perfect in the cold season!

Waiting for two hours for food is really not pleasant. The restaurant is full, but there are only two chefs on duty, who look visibly overwhelmed while some waiters chat with each other at the cash register. Guests are constantly leaving the restaurant because they no longer want to wait for their food. The quality of the food and the ambience are excellent, but unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired.

I dare say that nowhere in Gera and the surrounding area is there a restaurant or bar with a greater variety of beers and spirits. The service is absolutely top notch and the ambience is second to none. The price/performance ratio is absolutely fair and is perfect, especially when it comes to the food. The service and hospitality are absolutely honest and warm, both from the boss himself and from the employees. I will definitely come back here.

Food and drink was delicious as always 😋

The restaurant was not very busy, but the waiting time for the food was too long, over an hour. The service seemed to be too much for the few guests. We then went to the staff to pay so we didn't have to wait any longer.

I've been there for dinner and also for a bar visit in the evening. Both times were very pleasant. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service! Food and drinks very tasty and reasonably priced!

We reserved a table here at short notice last Saturday. After a trip we were able to end the day here in a quiet atmosphere with very good and plentiful food. I would particularly like to emphasize the good-humoured conditions. Thank you very much and I'll be happy to come back.

Since there is a large indoor and outdoor area you can always find a place. The drinks menu is huge, there is something for everyone. We always like to try a different beer that we don't know yet. The food is classic, and it is one of the few restaurants where you can still get mashed potatoes 👍. The kids always find it delicious.

Minus: The beer is more expensive and smaller than at home! Plus: the food tastes good!

It was great there. The plate was just too small for the food. The sauce dripped from the edge of the plate. It's not bad, but it shouldn't happen in a store like this. Apart from the little thing, everything was perfect.

We got our place & the menus, after 2 minutes they came and asked what we wanted to eat & drink. There was hair in the food & the schnitzel looked like it had been in the fridge for 5 days. never go there again.

Went there for the first time for a class reunion. Unfortunately it didn't go ideally. The steak au four was burnt and tasted completely bitter. When you gave it back you got a new steak but the old fries were totally cold. To compensate, however, there was a cocktail. The waitress was somehow totally annoyed and constantly stood in front of us chewing gum. Well, that wasn't our thing. Personally, I wouldn't go there again. Unfortunately.

I've been eating and drinking there regularly for over 2 years, I've never really waited longer than 30 minutes for food (even when it was very busy) and I've ALWAYS had very nice service. I think it's more likely that the people with the bad reviews were making some unpleasant comments or other very unkind things. We recommend!

Stopped in for dinner spontaneously. The food was delicious, but unfortunately my carne chili was a bit cold. The selection of drinks was very good and the rooms are also very quaint and cozy. Price performance was very good and I can definitely recommend Down Town.

Essen ist nicht der Bringer An Freundlichkeit fehlt es auch. Ein Hallo oder guten Abend ist vom Chef natürlich zu viel verlangt.

Nettes Personal, lecker Essen und viel Auswahl.

Leider war mein panierter Blumenkohl sehr fest und ohne Gewürze. Mein Putenschnitzel war mit blutigen Fäden leider wurde darauf keine Rücksicht genommen und vollen Preis abgezogen. Das würzfleisch war selbstgemacht und schmacklich gut auch das Schnitzel mit Bohnen und Bratkartoffel war ok. Nur sehr dick sind die schnitzel ob Pute oder Schwein. Am ende würde ich nicht wieder hingehen da gibt es wesentlich bessere Restaurants im Gera die Preislich wesentlich günstiger sind.

Ich weiß garnicht warum sich so viele beschweren . Wir sind super gern hier und wurden noch nie enttäuscht. Essen ist immer super lecker, Portionen sind wirklich gut ausreichend. Wenn viel los ist wird man immer informiert das es etwas länger dauern kann (da muss man einfach etwas Verständnis haben ) und für spontane ist eigentlich immer irgendwo ne Ecke frei. Wir haben noch nie eine negative Erfahrung gemacht und kommen schon seit Jahren hier her.

Das Downtown ist mit seiner Lage direkt am Hauptbahnhof ideal um während langer Wartezeiten oder nach einer Reise / Ausflug noch ein wenig runterzukommen. Das Essen und die Getränke sind geschmacklich gut. Etwas schade ist nur, dass die Speisekarte gefühlt Tausend verschiedene Angebote aufweist, es aber passieren kann, dass davon kaum etwas auf Lager ist. Das Ambiente ist eher rustikal, da das Lokal in einer Art Gewölbe ansässig ist, ich persönlich finde, dass es einen gewissen Charme hat. Preislich ist man noch recht moderat unterwegs. Die Parksituation ist schwer festzulegen, es gibt am Bahnhof zwar Parkplätze, aber die sind je nach Tag und Uhrzeit auch gern mal rare. Außerdem ist direkt am Bahnhof eine kleine Polizeistation, also sollte man sich das falsch Parke genau überlegen. Es lässt sich wiederum sehr gut mit den Öffis hinkommen, da direkt am Bahnhof auch der Busbahnhof ist. Da es sich um eine Bar handelt, ist es wohl eh die bessere Idee, mit dem Bus Heim zu fahren.

Urenkelin und Uropa und den restlichen 5 hat es sehr gut gefallen. Da es am 13.10.23 richtig schön warm war, hat uns der Chef 2Tische vorbereitet und alle Terrassenheizungen zauberten ein herrliches Ambiente. Das Essen hat super geschmeckt. Preis/Leistung stimmt. Fazit: Ihr könnt mit Euren Eltern Ü80 ins Downtown gehen.

Wir gehen seit Jahren ins Downtown und waren heute das erste Mal sehr enttäuscht: nach unserer ersten Bestellung wurde unser Tisch scheinbar komplett ignoriert. Leere Getränke wurden nicht mehr mitgenommen, und unsere Bestellung kam nicht bei uns an. Nachdem wir unsere leeren Gläser zum Tresen brachten und auf unsere Bestellung hinwiesen, haben wir nach einer halben Stunde wenigstens einen Teil unserer Bestellung erhalten. Eine Bestellung kam bis zum Schluss nicht an und unser Freund blieb knapp eine Stunde ohne Getränk. Als wir zum Tresen gingen und nach unserer Rechnung fragten, wurde dreist gefragt, wieviel Trinkgeld wir geben wollen. 2 Sterne geben wir noch, weil wir sonst immer gerne ins Downtown gegangen sind und die Location eigentlich sehr schön und das Essen auch echt lecker ist. Aber der Service ließ heute sehr zu wünschen übrig.

Ich war das 1. Mal da.. laut Erzählungen vieler Personen war ich dann vor Ort ein Stück weit enttäuscht. Eigentlich waren bis jetzt alle immer zufrieden, alles schön.. Die erste Runde Bestellung ging super schnell.. Getränke und Essen (2 süße Dessertgerichte) nach ca 30. Minuten da. Ab dem Moment war auf einmal gefühlt unser Tisch (dem Nachbartisch ging es auch so..) vergessen. Wir mussten 2-3 Mal Nachfragen bzgl. der Bestellungen. Nach 40 Minuten wo niemand kam, brachten wir selbst die leeren Getränke zum Trensen.. leider änderte sich trotzdem nichts. Cocktails waren ganz gut gemischt. Nur leider war zbsp die Apfelschorle wahnsinnig gestreckt und schmeckte eher nach Wasser mit Geschmack.. Letzendlich kam 1 Getränk gar nicht und wir sind nach weiteren 45 Minuten ohne jegliche Bedienung dann zum Tresen gegangen zum Bezahlen.... Zahlen nur mit Bargeld.. wussten wir. Aber ernsthaft die Dreistigkeit zu besitzen- bei 15,60€ zu fragen ob man auf 20 aufrunden könnte ist schon to much... Zumal das 2 mal vorher auch schon so ging. Vielleicht nehmen Sich die Servicekräfte dies ja an.. das Ambiente ist ja wirklich schön..

Drinks und Longdrinks dauerten schon über 40 min, selbst bis die überforderte Kellnerin einen wahrnimmt, muss man vor zur Theke, essen sollte man sofort mit bestellen wir haben 2 Stunden aufs Essen gewartet. Nachspeise ebenso. Keine Kommunikation oder Blick Kontakt der Kellnerin. Das man jemanden sieht passiert selbst. bezahlen muss man selbst vor zur Theke da niemand kommt. Ganz schlechter Service.

Die Mitarbeiter waren etwas überfordert, haben unsere Essenbestellung vergessen, diese kam erst nach 2 Stunden, nach mehrmaligen nachgefragt, wo das Essen bleibt, sind wir vertröstet wurden, werden dieses Lokal nicht mehr in Anspruch nehmen. Mitarbeiter total überfordert. Essen kann man hier nicht, aber gute drinks sind sehr lecker. Zum bezahlen muss man sich selbst kümmern, entweder man wartet 3-5 Stunde oder man geht an die Bar zum bezahlen. Bringt viel Zeit mit in diesem Lokal. Viel Spaß beim warten.

Wir waren zum Abendbrot dort und saßen Sehr gut in dem geschützten Aussenbereich. Die Bedienung war freundlich und das Essen reichlich und schmackhaft... Was will man mehr. Wir kommen sicher wieder.

Das DOWNTOWN ist die Leuchtturmspitze der von Pizza und Dönern geprägten Gastronomie. Riesige Auswahl an Getränken - der Name "Bierkneipe" ist voll berechtigt. Pfiffige Coctails en masse. Die Speisenauswahl ist auch sehr umfangreich, reichlich und lecker. Preise bezahlbar und der Service immer TOP. Solche Kneipen findet man nur noch selten, unbedingte Empfehlung!

Klasse Kneipe in einem Gewölbekeller mit einem tollen, gemütlichen Ambiente. Sehr freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Obwohl viel Betrieb war musste man nie lange warten wenn man Getränke nachbestellen wollte. Das Essen (Schnitzel mit Champignonsauce und Kroketten) war super lecker und absolut ausreichend. Die Getränkekarte ist absolut bombastisch. Ich habe in noch keiner anderen Kneipe eine so umfangreiche Auswahl an Bieren, Softdrinks, Tee usw gesehen 👍 Kostenloses WLAN gibt es auch (Bedienung fragen wegen Passwort) was total Sinn macht. Mobilfunkempfang im Keller ist da, aber nicht so dolle. Top Empfehlung für Gera! Komme gerne wieder. Biergarten für schönes Wetter ist auch vorhanden.

Gestern einen kurzen Abstecher ins Downtown gemacht.... Leider war die Wartezeit bis mal die Kellnerin kam sehr sehr lang! Über eine Stunde kam uns keine Kellnerin an den Tisch... Kurz vor dem gehen-sagten wir wohl dem Chef bescheid... Es verg7ngen wieder ca 15min.... Als dann die Kellnerim fragte Sie ob getrennt oder zusammen die Bezahlung erfolgen soll... Mit dem Hinweis getrennt bitte... Sie schaute kurz verdutzt... und dann kam nur... Ähm moment... ich glaube vin ihnen bekomme ich ........€ Naja sie war bemüht aber mehr auch nicht leider.... Schade bin anderes gewohnt bei Euch.... vllt. Bis zum nächsten Mal....

Waren spontan vor Ort, am Wochenende empfiehlt sich eine Tischreservierung. Es gibt eine riesige Cocktailkarte zu fairen Preisen Essen ist auch sehr lecker 😋 ich habe ein Schnitzel mit Beilage (siehe Foto) gegessen. Preis hierfür 13.90 absolut im Ordnung Nettes Servicepersonal. Man kann auch im Gastgarten sitzen, im Winter mit Heizstrahler.. Der Innenbereich ist im einem rustikalen Kellergewölbe. Wir kommen wieder.

Wir waren zu Zweit Abendessen. Sehr nette Bedienung, die war schon mit der Karte da, als wir noch nicht einmal saßen. Sehr schön im grünen Außenbereich. Karte hat Alles außer Fisch, vielleicht auch bei den hohen Temperaturen besser. Preis/Leistung stimmen, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Essen war sehr gut und reichlich, es ging schnell und die 3 Mitarbeiter waren sehr zuvorkommend und nett. Ein schöner Abend !
