Divan Ocakbaşı in Freiburg im Breisgau

We were in Freiburg as a group at the beginning of May and decided to try the Divan. We had the grill plates. Absolutely AMAZING! There was more than enough food on them, and we were more than full. And then there were the generous side dishes. The staff were very, very friendly. I highly recommend it. Go there! Next time I'm in Freiburg, I'll go back!

Super delicious food, great service. The downside, however, is that you can only pay in cash, and it's only hidden away next to the entrance. This should be possible everywhere these days. So I went to the bank and paid. I went down to the Sparkasse ATM toward the train station not far away, but it's still annoying :)

Very, very tasty food and at really fair prices (9.90 for lunch). We had vegetables with yogurt sauce and turkey strips with chickpeas and peppers in a red sauce. There are many gluten-free dishes. I can really only highly recommend this restaurant!

Unfortunately, this restaurant has a cafeteria feel. It used to be really good and delicious. I was very disappointed. I ate the worst İskender kebab. It had absolutely nothing to do with the original dish. It's a shame. Extremely loud and crowded. The service was friendly, but the restaurant's location was great. But that was all. Absolutely disgusting! This has nothing to do with Turkish cuisine. The so-called "chef" isn't Turkish and serves disgusting food. The grill plate arrived with the cheapest doner meat, so you have to wonder if it's even meat. We paid €350 for a table and went home hungry. The service is terrible; we had to wait an hour for our food. It's unacceptable!

The doner meat and iskender didn't taste good at all, just cheap meat and overpriced. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. We went home with stomach aches.

The food didn't taste good. The portions were large but bland. You can't pay by card, and that's not properly indicated. I wouldn't go back.

I would give it 0 starts if I could. We had the worst Dönner plate of our life there...they serve it with ketchup, probably because they know how bad it is. Even ketchup could not mask the horrible taste.

We came here at 19:00 on 25.04.2025 to let my German friends taste Turkish desserts. Unfortunately, they didn't have kunefe despite it being a busy Friday night. We ordered a portion of baklava, a portion of halva and a portion of sütluç. The syrup of the baklava was almost non-existent and it was way below my expectations. To be honest, I can give it a score of 3.5 out of 10, the highest. I didn't have high expectations from the halva anyway, it was served with two slices of lemon next to the tahini halva that can be found in any standard Turkish market. I can't say anything negative, but it was pretty standard. As for the rice pudding, here's what happened: I asked if it was baked rice pudding or regular. As a Turk, I know both styles. I was told that the rice pudding was cold. Of course it would be cold, but when I asked how it was cooked, the attendant said he didn't know. The baked rice pudding was served. Its taste and sugar were quite good, but rice pudding made in the oven is a little browned on top. The sugar caramelizes a bit, but the top was completely white. In short, all three products fail in price-performance evaluation. Especially the baklava was clearly a big disappointment. As drinks, we ordered Turkish coffee with two sugars and tea with apples. The presentation of the Turkish coffees was nice; something like a burnt doner was made. But unfortunately, the coffees were unsweetened. Sugar was also added to the tea, but there was no spoon to stir the sugar, we stirred it with the spoon that came for the desserts. In short, I do not recommend Divan, which is a place with above-average prices in Freiburg, for coffee and dessert.

Disappointing and misleading – has nothing to do with real Ocakbaşı I ordered a mixed grill plate - what I got included kebab meat. On a mixed grill plate? Absolutely inappropriate. Unfortunately, the taste of the whole thing was disappointing. To explain: A real Ocakbaşı is a traditional Turkish grill restaurant where the meat is freshly prepared over charcoal on an open grill - often right in front of the guests. Authenticity, quality and real craftsmanship are the focus. Unfortunately there was no sign of that here. The mixed meze also seemed bland – basically a Çoban salad with a bit of decoration, plus a bonus raw piece of sucuk on the plate. I drove over 100 km hoping for an authentic meal - and was really disappointed. I seriously wonder how these many positive reviews come about. The staff was overwhelmed, the food was inconsistent, and unfortunately the whole thing had nothing to do with real Turkish cuisine. Too bad. Once and never again.

We spontaneously looked for something to eat for the evening. Divans looked good! The service was very friendly and everything went really quickly. The food was incredibly delicious!

Lentil soup was phenomenal and lamb skewers and sauces were also very tasty. Meat was tender and very flavorful. You can only pay with cash. There is even an ATM in the restaurant if you don't have any cash with you.

Just super delicious. My partner had lamb and I had chicken. And both were simply delicious. The staff is very friendly and does their best to make the guests happy. Unfortunately, we underestimated the crowds on a Sunday and it took some time until we got our food. But the good food more than compensated us for the waiting time. Hygiene was bad. Five of us went and no one was satisfied with their plate. When we told him that one of us had a hair on his plate, the waiter did not care at all and did not even apologize. We ordered Ali Nazik and the plate that arrived had nothing to do with Alinazik. It tasted and looked very bad. They made a paste of eggplant and spread it on a plate, and brought out a handful of dry ground meat-like thing. The business was trying to serve Turkish food, but there was not a single Turk. Great restaurant! We had a salad, a kebab, and a spinach pide. The service is impeccable, I recommend it.

Unfortunately, these days there are meals prepared by chefs who know little about it. We were forgotten and after about an hour of waiting we were served a burnt Adana Kebap, which unfortunately had no taste as the typical spices were missing. When we reported it to the waiter from India, the head waiter from Kosovo, and later to the owner from Tacikistan, everyone recommended that we should order lamb skewers next time, if there will be a next time at all.

We had a lovely evening in the divan. The food was very tasty and we were impressed by the quality of the dishes. Overall, the portions were okay, although the skewers (Kuzu Sis had) could have been a little more generous. A small downer: Despite having a reservation, we had to wait about 10 minutes for our table. It wasn't dramatic, but still a bit unexpected. The service was friendly and the ambience was pleasant - so overall a good experience with some minor drawbacks. We'd love to come back!

Overall, I cannot recommend the Divan restaurant. Despite the good food, the service is disastrous and makes the visit anything but pleasant. Improvements are urgently needed here to make the experience for guests so that it is truly enjoyable.

El Begendi ( 140 ) era un plato lleno de puré de berenjenas y una cucharada de trozos de cordero absolutamente sin valor de € 22 , 90 . El Salatali Döner para 16 , 50 era una porción bastante grande, sin embargo la carne era tibia. Intentó varias veces llamar la atención del camarero, sin éxito. Tuvimos una visita al teatro y no podíamos perder tiempo esperando que alguien atendiera nuestra queja. Solo ACEPTAN DINERO EN EFECTIVO. Un inconveniente. Los baños están muy limpios. Las alfombras del restaurante parecen manadas de búfalos caminando sobre él durante los últimos 15 años. ¡Límpialo!

We spontaneously went here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Surprisingly full. The food was OK, but the price-performance ratio was really borderline. Absolutely out of date: cash payment only.

We were at the restaurant earlier this month to celebrate a birthday. For some reason, even though the people at neighboring tables were symbolically offered something to celebrate, all we got was rudeness. At the end the waiter spoke with what seemed to be his typical humor: "Come back in a year, we'll do it differently." Although the food was edible this time, we definitely won't be coming back.

We had reserved a table (company party) for 14 people. When we arrived, we were told rather rudely that this wasn't the case because apparently new employees hadn't written this down. After a short discussion we were seated in a corner of the sofa, we were given tickets, but we were only able to order drinks after we were spoken to. After an hour we were allowed to move to a larger table. Despite the botched reservation, service seemed unfriendly and ignorant. Food was satisfactory. There was no apology from the staff or the boss. Not recommended for company parties.

Nous avons été très déçus par notre expérience dans ce restaurant. Dès le départ, l’accueil n’a pas été chaleureux, ce qui a donné le ton de la soirée. Nous avons dû attendre longtemps pour être servis : mon compagnon avait presque terminé son plat quand le mien est finalement arrivé, et pourtant il n’y avait pas foule (il était 18h). Les deux serveurs présents, dont une femme très lente, semblaient peu efficaces. Ils faisaient tout ensemble, même pour prendre une commande, ce qui ralentissait encore plus le service. On ne nous a pas proposé de dessert, et personne n’est revenu vers nous à ce sujet. En fin de repas, au moment de payer, nous avons découvert qu’il n’était pas possible de régler par carte bancaire – ce qui est difficilement compréhensible en 2025. Aucun panneau ne l’indiquait, et personne ne nous en a informés à l’avance. De plus, nous n’avons reçu ni facture ni ticket, tout était fait à la main de manière peu professionnelle. Mon plat était froid, et dans l’ensemble, seul le lieu en lui-même était agréable. Mais l’accueil et le service laissent vraiment à désirer. Enfin, lorsque j’ai demandé à emporter mes restes, le serveur m’a jugée d’un regard désagréable, et, au lieu de les emballer comme demandé, il les a jetés. Le manque de TPE et l’absence de facture sont vraiment étranges et peu sérieux. Cette expérience a été très décevante.

We always come back to this restaurant because it has a nice ambience and the food was good. But the quality of the food (grill plate) has unfortunately noticeably decreased. The meat wasn't seasoned at all and the typical grilled taste was no longer what it was used to. The gyro also looked rather gray and tasted just as it looked. What also really bothered us: we had also ordered a large salad in advance and it came all at once with the warm food, so that everything became cold. Luckily we didn't have an ice cream dessert, it would have gotten warm and melted... We won't be going back anytime soon if the restaurant goes down like this.

An authentic Turkish-Anatolian restaurant. It is not an ordinary kebab shop, but a real restaurant with specialties from oriental cuisine. The food is excellent, from the starter to the main course (meat dishes) to the desserts, all the dishes were so good that I would order them again. The staff is very friendly and works hard, even when the store is full. You should definitely make a reservation, especially on weekends and in the evenings. The seating is a bit tight, however, as the tables are close to each other. The ambience is nice, but it doesn't quite suit my personal taste. In 2024, however, I expect card payments to be a given. Although the restaurant has its own ATM, it takes up seats and creates additional fees, especially for tourists like me. Conclusion: If I'm in Freiburg and want authentic Turkish food, I'll definitely stop by here again.

Nettes Ambiente und aufmerksame freundliche Bedienung. Aber die Portionen sind eindeutig zu klein bei diesen Preisen. Zudem dürften die Speisen auch mutiger gewürzt werden. Und ein wenig Kreativität beim Anrichten hilft auch. Weniger Show, dafür Inhalt hätte das Restaurant durchaus verdient. Nur Bargeld zu nehmen ist nicht mehr zeitgemäß und zeigt, dass man auf internationales Publikum wohl gern verzichtet.

Minus for not being able to pay by card, even though it is registered with card payment on Google. As a business guest, I had to go out of my comfort zone into the cold and look for an ATM that didn't charge an extra fee - embarrassing for my own guests. My 12 year old daughter stopped in curiosity and after studying the menu she went in to reserve a table for 4 people that evening. “You’re welcome, Madame!” When we arrived at 8 p.m. the restaurant was full -> but the table she wanted was just being prepared for her. “Welcome, your table will be ready in 1 minute!” 🤩 Incredibly friendly staff, attentive and approachable! The food was great!! Just a great experience!!

We were very satisfied. The service was great and the food was very tasty and justified for the price. We paid €51 for 3 drinks and 2 main courses. If we're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit again :-) The only point of criticism is the lack of EC card payment.
