DING DING SHENG in Frankfurt am Main

It's very authentic Chinese food, and the taste is almost the same as the stir-fries in restaurants in China. We ordered three dishes, and they were all delicious and flavorful. My girlfriend, who is a foreigner, also enjoyed them. Highly recommended.

SCAM: I was supposed to pay €28, but my bill was €34.50, and I wasn't given a receipt. Be careful, because you'll pay €2 for rice without being told, and they'll add a €5 tip without asking again. Be careful.

I never expected to find such delicious Sichuan and Cantonese food in Frankfurt! The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful, introducing the signature dishes, each one of which looked absolutely mouthwatering! It's just a shame they only accept cash!

The food was edible for a one-time visit. Unfortunately, the taste was below average and the prices weren't attractive enough to compete with the competition in the area. The owner was so rude.

In Frankfurt, Germany, I accidentally walked into Ding Ding Sheng and was served a plate of glossy and oily braised pork, which instantly awakened my homesickness. The thick pieces of pork belly, after being slowly stewed, are full of the aroma of soy sauce and rock sugar. They are fat but not greasy, lean but not dry, and have a salty and sweet taste when eaten, with a sticky aftertaste. For people far away from home, this is not just a delicious meal, but a familiar warmth, a taste of home. Sitting on the streets of Frankfurt, tasting this plate of braised pork, it seems like returning to the dining table of my childhood, with the laughter of my family in my ears and a solid sense of belonging in my heart. It is really a blessing to be able to taste such a taste of home in a foreign country.

The food was very expensive, flavorless, and greasy. Rice had to be ordered extra for €2, and a large bottle cost €7.80.

The food was delicious~ I recommend the water spinach. I recommend the natural lamb. The seafood tofu burger had the right flavor, but unfortunately some of the seafood seemed frozen from a convenience store (but Germany isn't a seafood-rich place, so I'll let it slide. At least it tasted okay). The braised pork knuckle, however, was a disappointment. I don't know if it's just cultural or regional differences. We were expecting a tender pork knuckle with lots of meat and skin, but it was just skin and bones... The skin was very chewy, and there wasn't much meat. Half the meat was bone or the meatless part of the knuckle. I wasn't used to it. It felt like I was paying for bones 😂. But the flavor was okay. If you like this kind of pork knuckle, order it again. When we paid, the owner didn't show us the detailed bill. I don't know if he'd secretly added a service charge like others have suggested, but it seemed about right. He did give us a plate of fruit and tea, and was very friendly, so I didn't want to make a big deal about it.

Authentic and tasty. But not amazing. There are better alternatives. Card payments are frowned upon, and people initially lie and say it's not possible. Only when you don't have cash does it suddenly work. By 2025, card payments should be the norm.

The waitress is very grumpy when we requested to get the change back, she said that the boss is not here so she can not give the change back to us. Very bad experience! If we were pleasured we re willing to give tips for her, but if we re requested to give tips, it's not making any sense.

The food is okay, the service from an employee is nice. But the owner is greedy. When making a payment, without asking if it's okay or explaining why, she rounds up the price. So for example if the price ends in 31.30, she charges you 32.00. I asked why and she doesn't have reasons. Well, it's a small amount so I don't care so much in the end, but it feels ingenuine and I won't be coming back.

That day, we originally planned to eat at a Malaysian restaurant we always visit, but since the owner was on vacation, we wandered around nearby and saw that this restaurant had fried rice and pan-fried dumplings on the menu outside. We decided to give it a try. Actually, there were two people ahead of us who were about to enter, but they said they had the wrong place and left (in hindsight, that should have been a red flag). So we didn’t wait long and went in. After we sat down, the same assertive woman mentioned in other reviews brought us plates and bowls that had dust on them. When we were ordering, she showed her controlling nature: we ordered two dishes and a portion of pan-fried dumplings, and she kept insisting that it wouldn’t be enough for us. It was just two adults and one child — we assumed rice would be included like in other Chinese restaurants. I said there would be rice, and if it wasn’t enough, we’d order more. She wasn’t happy and said, “Whatever.” I mean, how would an outsider know our family's appetite better than we do?? Also, I wanted to order meat chunks, but she insisted we change it to sliced meat. Sliced meat isn’t bad, but I specifically wanted the texture of chunks. Maybe she was trying to give us a more authentic Chinese experience, but shouldn't she also respect the customer's preference? She never mentioned that rice would be charged separately. At checkout, since we paid by card — just like other reviewers said — she automatically added a 10% tip. My husband didn’t know and even rounded up the total.

Food are quite good and big amounts. Prices are good. Waiters old lady very nice but the owner was so-so. Lucky we had cash with us, othervise we would washed the dishes.

The boss lady has control issues, I think. She wants you to sit outside, you sit outside, because she will keep saying till you move outside . I don't know why she does that . The food was good. Just make sure you look at the recipe before you pay . And asked if they take a card before you eat / sit.

Like other reviewer say,the waitress is warm and friendly at first, but when she notices me order just a noodle and a glass of beer(of course. I was just by myself), she suddenly turns cold and grumpy. And I was surprised to be asked to pay only by cash. But at the same time, I saw other table paying by card. I felt so bad. Actually, it could be given 5*; the food didn't just taste of MSG like you usually get at a Chinese restaurant, and was otherwise impeccable. Deductions were made for the simultaneous service of the starter and main course, no hot plate, extra rice charged without prior notice, beer at the top end at €5.80, and hectic service with customers being ushered in, as is typical for red-light restaurants. Additionally, the interim bill, which at least suggests a lack of tax information, is also common practice at Chinese restaurants. Some neighboring tables waited a very long time for their food, napkins were usually unavailable, and people helped each other.

As an Asian, it is rare for me to eat Asian food in Frankfurt. As soon as I entered, the proprietress greeted me warmly, and the restaurant was also very Chinese-style. Even if you try to order something different, their staff pushes Kung Pao Chicken till you change your order to that. It's happened twice to me that I decided on a dish but while ordering, the server said oooh it has bone not good get Kung Pao Chicken. It's good though but I've had enough Kung Pao Chicken and I won't be going back.

Why the website claims to be "one of the most famous Chinese restaurants in Germany" is beyond me. The menu is huge and offers a lot of, but not all, authentic food. Those who like it can try all kinds of offal. For the less daring, there are "regular" rice and noodle dishes. Chicken, all kinds of beef are available, as well as shrimp, crabs, and other shellfish. I would like to highlight the fish dishes, which at least look very authentic, but I didn't try them. The service was OK, even if they always said everything tasted "very good." For me, the taste was OK, but by no means outstanding. For me, there was sometimes too little seasoning. The fried beef with cumin tasted suspiciously like chicken. I would recommend the handmade dumplings. The prices are generous. But so are the portions, which isn't necessarily an advantage if you plan on ordering a lot of dishes. Boiled rice, which you can get for free everywhere else (even in China), costs €4 here and was served without asking. Next time I'll go to a different restaurant.

I haven't been to such a climatic place with a great atmosphere for a long time, the lady who served us recommended dishes that perfectly suited our tastes. I think it's one of the best Asian restaurants in this city.

The food was greasy, it was a vegetable pasta, and it only had onions and carrots. They also only accept cash, but there's no sign indicating this, nor do they give a warning before ordering. This is really bad, because almost all restaurants in Frankfurt accept card payments. The woman in charge of taking payment was quite rude when she finally said it.

Disappointing Visit – Unfortunately, Not Recommended We visited this restaurant as a group of six people with a small child. Upon arrival, we were rudely asked to leave the stroller outside, which didn't seem particularly family-friendly to us. Although we were already ready to leave, we were persuaded to stay – unfortunately, a bad decision. The dishes on which our food was served were visibly dirty and did not appear hygienic. There were also several discrepancies when paying: Side dishes that only three people had ordered were charged for five. Drinks and dishes that we hadn't even ordered suddenly appeared on the bill. We were refused separate card payments – even though we had communicated this from the beginning. So we had to pay for everything together without the opportunity to review the bill in detail. Ultimately, we paid 12 to 13 euros more than we should have – a very disappointing experience. The service was generally unfriendly, the atmosphere uninviting, and the value for money was not at all right. Unfortunately, no recommendation from our side.

Food didn’t taste very good and i felt nauseous after. The waitress/owner was always in a rush even though the place wasn’t that crowded and she is only friendly with you if you order the fancy things. Moreover she refused card payment and said that the machine wasn’t working that day because so many people paid with it but based on other reviews they say that all the time plus she gave herself around 10% tip without telling us

We were at your place exactly 2 hours ago. The food arrived after 50 minutes. It tasted like it was made for a dog. The staff and manager were rude and talked the whole time instead of working. Shame on you! Never again

Today we went to Ding Ding for lunch. We weren't sure if we actually wanted to eat there, so we checked out another restaurant beforehand, but then we came back to Ding Ding because we were impressed by the menu and the atmosphere. We ordered two meat rolls, which came with a small portion of sweet and sour sauce. Other sauces and spices were available on the table. For our main course, we were inspired by the table next to us and ordered sweet and sour pork and, as a specialty, the sirloin casserole. After we finished the delicious autumn roll, the main course came right after, but both the sweeter pork and the sirloin casserole didn't look like the ones on the next table or the photo on the menu. Upon inquiry, the manager, who was mostly at the next table with her friends, confirmed that it was the sweet and sour pork we had ordered, and that this time the sirloin casserole was made with potatoes, not chili as pictured. The chef clearly let his creativity run wild. The marinated beef wasn't sirloin but, as the manager told us, belly beef. Very fatty, just as belly beef should be. However, it wasn't what we ordered. The manager engaged in unconvincing arguments at the table. The same thing happened when we paid. So the customer isn't really in the right here, and the customer is certainly not king. We felt like we were in a shoe store where we wanted to buy rubber boots and they tried to convince us that we could just walk through the rain in high heels. All in all, we left the restaurant disappointed.

Northeast bosses have a very bad attitude towards Chinese people, don't go there

Everything was fine at first, the waiter was great. The food was delicious. I'm traveling alone. I ate the food and I gave cash to a lady who I think was the owner of the restaurant to pay. If I remember correctly, the lady should have returned around 70-80 cents. But she kept rummaging through her bag for about 2 minutes and then stopped. I finally got my change and before I even left the door, I heard her saying bad things because I was waiting for my change. If you are the boss or the manager, I'd like to tell you here. What would you do if I was 50 cents short?

The dishes we ordered were good, especially the steamed whole fish. There were two staff serving in the restaurant. The older lady was friendly however other lady no so. Was surprised that they ONLY ACCEPT CASH. There was no sign to indicate that. Had just enough with only 2.80€ to spare. Almost had to stay and wash the dishes to pay for my meal.

We ate here after a recommendation (YouTube). We often go and enjoy visiting new restaurants! We also reserved a table in advance! The menu is very nicely laid out with large pictures, making it easy to visualize what you're ordering! The menu features authentic (definitely not what you're used to, boring) Chinese cuisine from various regions of the country. Highly recommended, delicious, and also great to try! The food was very fresh and wholesome! So... definitely go, dare to try something, and enjoy ❗️ Price/performance ratio is absolutely fine! The surroundings are extremely multicultural, the Frankfurt train station area, rather interesting! We will definitely eat here again; the menu offers several more culinary options!

I didn't expect to find such an authentic Chinese restaurant in Frankfurt. Since I wasn't very hungry, I only ordered a bowl of beef brisket noodle soup. It was amazing. The soup, beef and noodles were all very delicious. The proprietress from Henan is very talkative and enthusiastic. I heard that many Taiwanese tourists come here to dine. Highly recommended!

When I walked into the store, the waitress (who seemed to be the owner) was very warm and friendly and introduced their specialties. When I told her I only wanted to take away 2 dishes (6 dumplings + one portion of fried beef noodles), her attitude suddenly became a bit contemptuous and impatient. I didn't want to change my mind but she just kept encouraging me to order more and it was stressing me out. Finally I got my food and she impatiently asked me to pay in cash, which was strange to me because every restaurant in Frankfurt I went to accepted credit cards. When I unpacked the dishes at the hotel I found the food was not as she described and presented on the menu, for example she told me the noodles and dumplings were all handmade in the restaurant but you could see and taste them through your experience they tasted more like they came from frozen foods.

AVOID and never again! The attitude of the host-lady (mentioned as an owner in other reviews) were not acceptable. When we were ordering the food she was nice, but after we ordered not the most expensive items from the menu, she gave us a very cold attitude. And then, rejected us to pay by card. The food was different from the photos as well. AVOID this place!

I'm perplexed how a restaurant prioritises making a quick buck over decent (or minimal) customer service, thus essentially making them never wanting to come back again. To start it off - the food is not bad, but also not mindblowing. Taste is generally quite mild compared to most Chinese places I've been to, while the prices are a tad bit higher. The lady which mainly attended to us was very kind and sweet, but the same sadly cannot be said about the other two. One man continuously bugged my friends off with weird gestures and jokes, while one lady (which I presume is the owner) was downright incomprehensible. First she overcharged the bill that was given to us. Was a small extra amount, and I guessed it was a mistake, so no big deal. But then we found out they charge extra portion of rice in the given bill, which we DID NOT order at all. I brought this to the (owner) lady, and guess what she said? "But the amount of rice we gave you was exactly that, so that's the price" - then brushed me off. I was dumbfounded. The weirdest part of all - the other (nice) lady supported what I said, but the owner seemed hellbent on the fact that we were not even aware of. And the other (weird) attendant later told us that he thought we were right when seeing us off. How does this restaurant even work?? Honestly, putting aside the atrocious service, you are just better off looking for another place to eat, since this area is hugely competitive with other popular restaurants. Don't come there without reservation though, or you'll end up here like us.

What a terrible experience. The landlady's attitude was outrageous and she looked impatient, as if the customer owed her millions. The seats in the store are as small as pigeon cages, and you can't even think of moving when you sit down. The most speechless thing is that I obviously saw a card machine, but I said it was bad and only accepted cash. It was obvious that it was a scam. It is a waste of resources to open this kind of store. I strongly do not recommend it and advise everyone to avoid it.

We weren't as enthusiastic about the food as other reviewers here; perhaps we made the wrong choice due to ignorance of the best dishes at this place. We had two European Chinese dishes, both of standard quality, and one authentic Chinese dish, which was rather disappointing, as it only contained two ingredients and was, in my humble opinion, overpriced. The meat, in our opinion, wasn't "premium meat," as the restaurant's website advertises.

I don't usually write reviews, but I'm posting this because the female owner is so bad. First of all, I asked for some water and she gave me tap water in a glass, so I drank it thinking it was provided as a service, but when the customer next to me asked for water, I gave him bottled water and of course he took 3.8 euros. Later, he added 3.8 euros for the water to my food. And it's not a small store, but he said they don't accept credit cards and told me to bring cash. I didn't know how to report it, so I couldn't report it. Really. It's evil...don't go.

The service is very bad and hostile. The waitress (owner?) heavily discriminates you based on who she perceives you are. You could have a good experience or bad experience based on chance. She tried to take order the second we sit down without giving a chance to even look at the menu, and then ignored us for a long time. When food comes they come with rice that we did not order (but will cost money). And so we asked them to take it back since we're not very hungry, and it was met with "you would eat it like that without rice? O M G" quite audibly. I think it's one of the scammy tactics to squeeze extra money from customers. Food was meh. Not bad per se, but I would rather go somewhere else for a pan fried dumpling of similar quality to frozen ones from Asian supermarket. Place is very over-crowded. You will have people brushing against you all the time.

The owner is really rude and didn't give me the correct bill. I asked for the receipt and gave me another overpriced receipt. I paid the money anyway, which was 18 euros, and I gave her 20 euros and asked for the change. And she insisted that I already received 2 euros change so she can't give the me change. The second time I went to eat, my colleague asked for a small drink, but the boss said he only had large drinks. Then the attitude was not very good. Then the proprietress was short of 20 euros. After telling her, she calculated the money for a long time. When she finally calculated the money for us, she said, I made a mistake and I was short a few euros for you. The worst Chinese restaurant I’ve been to in Frankfurt: 1. The waiter brought the wrong dishes. 2. The drink was dirty, and the owner tried to brush it off. 3. When paying, they refused to accept card payments, only allowing cash or RMB transfers. I insisted, and only then did the owner reluctantly let me pay by card. Terrible experience—would not recommend this place.

There is a loud argument with the colleague right at the table. The meat in the beef soup was very bad and questionable whether it was even beef. The cola we ordered was some stale, cheap cola. You just feel ripped off here and the food is worse than your average Chinese restaurant.
