.... Fruit fly alarm (indoor) doesn't allow you to eat in a relaxed manner.

It may be that I came to Saarland with too high expectations for food. It was difficult to find a parking space and I called 3 minutes before our table reservation to say we were coming, but a little late. No problem and thank you very much - they said. When we arrived about 15 minutes later, our table was gone, no one remembered our call and we got a table right at the kitchen entrance as an emergency solution (or because the dog wasn't welcome?). Unfortunately, that made for a bad start with an aftertaste. Unfortunately, the garlic baguette ordered as a starter never saw garlic in its life. It was very dry with minimal amount of oil and even less herbs. The “everything” on a 15cm long, half-cut baguette for €5.90… Not recommended. We ordered Dibbellabbes. My companion from Saarland said it was good. To me it just tasted like cheap oil that was used too often and unfortunately I used a lot of it. As a foreigner, I had to ask for the Maggi bottle, which didn't come automatically. I ate maybe half of it and was already sick. If it had been really well made, I would have said the price was right, but like that... And unfortunately the restaurant is specifically mentioned during the city tour, as if it were THE national dish. Really a shame. How the plate of baguette was taken away and asked if it was tasty and my answer was “No!” no further questions were asked. I would be interested to know what my customers think. My Cuba Libre saw an excessive amount of lime, but hardly any rum. There was some drilling in the kitchen on Saturday evening. At the next table they said that if it couldn't be fixed today, they would have to close tomorrow; but yes, they were just now dealing with this problem and were able to serve the guests without any problems. What bothered me more was that I didn't hear a vacuum cleaner to collect the dust that comes from drilling... in a kitchen where there is food lying around... I hope that other restaurants can improve Saarland's reputation.

The restaurant welcomes you with an attractive, cozy, modern ambience. Unfortunately, the reception from the service staff was not very warm. Looking at the menu and other guests' plates can really work up an appetite. We chose the Wiener-style schnitzel with fries and the cream schnitzel with fried potatoes. Both dishes came without a side salad, which to be honest we are not used to. The price of the dishes is a bit disappointing. Both potato side dishes were really very good (kudos to the kitchen). Unfortunately, the praise for the schnitzels and especially the so-called cream sauce can be canceled straight away. The schnitzels were wafer thin and didn't look like a pan but like a hairdresser, nothing special in taste. The cream sauce... Sorry, but really bad. The taste was reminiscent of cauliflower broth and the consistency was almost slimy. Maybe the restaurant "The Potato" should concentrate on everything that has to do with the great tuber, because the kitchen seems to really like that and leave everything else off the menu. We probably won't come again. For the price we expect a little more (in terms of taste).

It was as beautiful as described by other guests. We sat outside and were able to order drinks fairly quickly and they came quickly. Then the waitress didn't come back and didn't respond to anything, as if we were invisible. When I went to the restaurant myself to order, she seemed reluctant to take the order. But then again the food didn't come for a long time. When we decided to leave without eating and I wanted to pay for the drinks, they said the food would be ready now and we would get something to make up for it. But just something small. We then ate, but didn't accept anything as compensation. The food was ultimately good, but with fried potatoes and sausage salad, it's hard to understand why it took so long. So not recommended at all.

I was very disappointed with my choice of food. Dumplings half and half with sauerkraut. Lt. Map 1/2 hour waiting time, that was communicated by the waitress, it was ok for me. Actual waiting time: 1 hour. Two dumplings undercooked, two tablespoons of bacon sauce and a bowl of fart-dry sauerkraut. In the local catering industry, no one can make tasty sauerkraut anymore! And the dumplings were filled with a little veal liver sausage. I didn't know that either. This at a price of over €16. As the plates were being cleared, the question was asked, “Did it taste good?” I answered “no, it wasn’t that great.” No questions asked why! Hence the deduction for service! I actually experienced this and can also be confirmed by my companion!

Unfortunately, service was zero, I think the waitress had a bad day or just didn't feel like it. The food was okay.

It's a shame that old, partially rotten lettuce leaves are put on your plate. 😥 Half the salad plate was returned. Complaint also received no response. No excuse! This is not how you should treat guests.

Service = zero! Waited almost an hour for our food before we realized we hadn't even ordered yet! 3 waitresses outdid themselves with ignorance. After 10 minutes of waiting we were able to order the menu and 2 drinks and that was it. There was no response to calls or waves. We have never experienced anything like this. The guests at the two neighboring tables left the restaurant after 10 to 15 minutes because they were smarter. In front of the waitresses we left the restaurant after 70 minutes without paying. The waitress wasn't interested in that either! What was going on there? Were we invisible? In the wrong film?

I recently visited the restaurant “The Potato” and was very excited about the culinary potato creations. The name already promised a lot! Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that the fries weren't homemade - a scandal! For a restaurant with this name, you would expect potato works of art that come straight from the potato garden. Instead I got the frozen mass-produced goods that you can also find in the supermarket. The schnitzel was okay, but the potato breading? Well, it wasn't any better than a normal breading. I would have liked a little more potato charm! If “The Potato” is in the name, then please also add a portion of passion and creativity! Overall it was a fun evening, but next time I'm hoping for more potato magic - maybe a schnitzel in a potato costume? Until then, the hope remains for the real potato in the restaurant “The Potato”!

DANGER!!! The fries from the children's menu are USURY!!! We ordered a portion of fries, we thought for €6 you get a decent portion. But when this little pile of misery arrived, for this price, our jaws dropped!!! An additional mini portion of ketchup costs €1!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!! Very expensive!!! The Lyoner pan and Dibbelabbes were quite good, and the rest was fine too.

Essen war gut. Aber so einen unfreundliche Bedienung habe ich noch nie erlebt! Es war kein Tisch besetzt auf der Terrasse - dies kam uns komisch vor und wir fragten höflich ob wir an diesem Tisch Platz nehmen dürfen Antwort- ja sonst wäre ja wohl ein Schild drauf! Als ich mir zum Essen noch Ketchup bestellt habe wurde ich angepampt ob wir noch was wollen denn sonst müsse sie ja nochmal hin und her laufen! Ich selbst war jahrelang in der Gastronomie aber so ein Benehmen habe ich nie erlebt Schade, ich hoffe die Besitzer der Kartoffel wissen über ihr schlechtes Personal Bescheid Wir werden nicht mehr kommen!

Salmon with potato pancakes. 19.50 euros.🤦🏽I had never eaten such a mushy potato pancake before. Maybe it was the rest of the Dibbelabbes or also called Schales, just shaped a little and fried.

Ich finde es eine Frechheit ein Schnitzel Wiener Art, mit einer hauchdünnen Scheibe Fleisch , welches ich in keinem anderen Restaurant in dieser Qualität gesehen habe,für 18,50 € und nur mit Pommes ohne ein Blatt von Salat.

As my reviewers already mentioned, you can find almost everything from & with potatoes on the menu. But also SARLAND cuisine. And that's what makes it so. You should definitely try it👌🏼 EIJO! The three of us (mom, dad & son) were there on Saturday, July 6th, 2024 and we really enjoyed it and liked it^^ Thanks for everything and keep it up We'd love to come back

Our son has recently been living in Saarbrücken. When we announced we were coming to visit (we come from Lower Saxony), he asked the local butcher which restaurant served typical Saarland dishes. The ladies were very enthusiastic and that's how we came to the potato 🥔. Unbelievable... Very nice atmosphere, attentive, very friendly staff. We ordered: Lyonerpfanne (fried Lyoner with fried potatoes and fried eggs), the Saar Trio (eggs, Lyoner, beef salad with fried potatoes) and Dibbelabbes (a kind of crispy fried giant potato pancake with bacon, leek and salad). The very tasty fried potatoes are prepared with clarified butter and onions. We were impressed by the Saarland cuisine. Thanks to the potato 🥔

Very nice conditions, great food and a pleasant atmosphere both inside and outside. The prices are reasonable for the good quality. Short waiting times for service and food preparation. Absolutely recommended.

So here is my opinion about the restaurant, food and service: 1.Customer reservations are not entered properly in the book 2. very unfriendly and sometimes annoyed staff 3. far too long waiting time when ordering 4. Sheep cheese contained far too much white wine. I've eaten baked sheep's cheese in many restaurants, but none of them have ever had white wine in it! My husband's cream schnitzel was DEFINITELY not a cream schnitzel, but a parmesan cream schnitzel. In every restaurant we went to, you got a salad with a schnitzel. When my husband asked whether his schnitzel usually doesn't come with a salad, we got a very unfriendly answer (as if we were too stupid to read the menu properly) 5. There is no decency in this store! Here you don't say "Hello", let alone "Please" or "Thank you" ‼️‼️‼️‼️ and last but not least No. 6. When paying, the waitress was annoyed that she had to get the card reader and to make matters worse, which really annoyed me personally and was the tip of the iceberg!!!! You don't do something like that in a professional restaurant unless you've known the guests for ages. We will definitely not visit this restaurant again and cannot recommend it under any circumstances. 😡😡😡

Nice staff, food was also tasty but in my opinion the price-performance ratio is not right. I ordered the Saar Trio plate for €17.50 with Lyonnais sausage, eggs, beef salad and fried potatoes. You could count the stiff Lyonnais sausage and beef strips. I'm annoyed that I didn't take a photo... We then went around the corner to the "Rigatoni Mann" and ordered Rigatoni there for €4 because I wasn't full. A price of €12 for such a plate would have been appropriate. The ambience was also very nice, but sorry, I was already upset about the portion.

Dieses Lokal - Die Kartoffel in Saarbrücken - bitte nicht besuchen. Die Bedienung (zwei junge Damen im Service (passiert am 30.05.24)) ist sehr unaufmerksam. Das Wort Service existiert nicht in deren Wortschatz. Die Damen im Service sind mehr damit beschäftigt mit ihren Handys sich zu beschäftigen als sich um Ihre Gäste zu kümmern. Absolut unaufmerksam, hätte ich mich nicht beschwert mit der Frage "Wann darf man hier etwas zu essen bestellen", würden meine Frau und ich bestimmt immer noch dort am Tisch mit unseren Getränken sitzen. Wenn Ihr ein gutes Lokal in Saarbrücken sucht, dann geht in die L'Osteria, Trierer Str. in Saarbrücken. Essen ist dort mega geil und der Service hervorragend. U. W.

Trotz "Flammkuchentag" (Speisekarte) wurde versucht uns den normalen, hohen Preis in Rechnung zu stellen. Bedienung unfreundlich, Essen allenfalls durchschnittlich. Keine Empfehlung.

Thursday is tarte flambée day, that's what it says on the menu. However, the bill was significantly higher because they wanted to charge us the normal price. The unfriendly service only corrected the price after unnecessary discussion. The quality of the food is also not recommended.

My experience was horrible, the restaurant does not have separate outdoor spaces for smokers, which makes your experience in this place eating with children terrible, you cannot enjoy the taste of the food because everything tastes like nicotine, sadly in Germany there are more Respect for smokers and for people who want to keep their lungs healthy, I hope in the future the restaurant will take into account that not all people like to blow smoke out of their mouths like a chimney.

I'm from Saarland and we cook very good Saarland food at home. I had the Saar-Tryo and I have to say it was very good, the beef salad amazed me. So you can have a good meal here 👍 There is no picture because everything was gone so quickly 👍 Edit: I was in the potato again and unfortunately disappointed, the sauce for the schnitzel was poor and the service could have been nicer... Hope it will happen again...

Ordered there today. But the food is terrible. Burnt, greasy, the gratin is at best a loveless casserole.

We were here with the Schlemmerblock. The food is not recommended. We once had a salad with turkey with cream sauce and fried potatoes. The salad was drowning in white sauce, already soggy, the tomato halves were mealy. The meat was tough and you had to apply a lot of pressure with the knife to cut it. To top it all off, there was some white hair (dog hair) in the salad. When I ordered more bread to go with the three small slices of bread, it was extremely hard and I had it returned. 5 minutes later baked steaming hot bread arrived. So my meal wasn't good at all. My son had a cream schnitzel with 2 small schnitzels, ready-made sauce that stretched like chewing gum and a few fried potatoes. There is a different way to prepare it deliciously. For 20.90 a small portion without salad. So you don't need to be very hungry!! Then the oldest had potato soup, which was tasty. And then 5 Hoorischs in this strange cream sauce. You could eat this dish, although it wasn't anything special like grandma's or mother's...The drinks also have high prices, yeah. We go out to eat often, but we haven't been this disappointed in a long time!!! Of course we didn't complain, it's not something we like to hear and it's not accepted in any way! You just draw your conclusions and don't go there anymore!!!👎

Very good food, you could sit comfortably and the staff was very friendly! It tastes like grandma's, only without the constant questions about life planning 🤣 I had the Geheiroode and it was perfect. The flour knepp were perfect and the potatoes were delicious! The sauce was excellent too!

As far as the service is concerned when it comes to the menu, drinks and food, it was very friendly and attentive. But if you are then asked whether it tasted good and the answer is not accepted at all, but is dismissed: ...then it just wasn't your taste, that's not OK. It was about the potato pancakes with cheese. If I order something with cheese, I want to be able to see it, smell it or, most importantly, taste it. It was said quite succinctly that the cheese is used in the potato dough. This was mentioned several times and emphatically assured. My argument that it was then used in homeopathic quantities because it tasted 0.0 like cheese was not accepted... Then it just didn't suit my taste. It's a shame everything was good up to this point...🤷🏼‍♀️.

Heute das 1. - und letzte - Mal in der Kartoffel gegessen. Hatte "Geheirade" bestellt. Was hier als Speckrahmsoße angeboten wird, ist eine wässrige, milchige und ungenießbare Brühe. Konnte nur die paar Salzkartöffelchen und Mehlknödel rauspicken (für einen überteuerten Preis von16,50!). Geworben wird mit "Essen wie bei Oma", was eine Beleidigung für jede Oma ist. Wer "Kartoffel" in seinem Restaurantnamen trägt, sollte diese traditionellen saarländischen Gerichte zubereiten können!

Today I ate it in the potato for the 1st - and last - time. I ordered “Geheimade”. What is offered here as bacon cream sauce is a watery, milky and inedible broth. I could only eat a few boiled potatoes and flour dumplings for an overpriced price.

The taste of the food was ok, the portion too. Prices are rather high, especially for the drinks. When I paid (2×food, schnitzel and stuffed items, drinks for 4 people) the amount of 74 seemed a bit high to me. When I asked whether this was perhaps a mistake, the printed bill came with the comment from the waitress (the slightly stronger one): if Madame thinks I'm lying, here's the printout. This tone of voice and the comment itself doesn't work at all. I wouldn't want to be served by this person again if I ever go there again

Interesting place, lots of dishes with potatoes. We ordered Flammkuchen. Price about 15 euros. Also with potatoes. Unusual. The restaurant is popular. They just come for lunch. Or they come to some meetings of friends with children. Regarding food, the chef is good. Regarding the service, the waiters, in my opinion, are a little tired. Take your time. Regarding prices, moderate. The check is on average 15-20 euros. Promotions take place on certain days or times.

While passing through, we found this very good, welcoming and friendly restaurant. The excellent Wiener Schnizel and a salad with salmon steak suited us perfectly. Not too many people that day, so calm and quiet atmosphere. I recommend this place.

Homemade German food specialized on potato dishes (even some of the desserts have potatoes in them)! Decent size portions and the staff are helpful when we manage to get their attention.

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime and since we hadn't reserved a table in advance, we of course had to wait a bit. But it wasn't a problem at all. After about 10 minutes we were assigned a table. The restaurant was packed and so it took a while until we were served. But the service was good and the wait staff was friendly. The food was very tasty and definitely more than enough. The three of us had a salad, a tarte flambée and I had Dibbelabbes. We will always be happy to come back.

If you like potatoes, you can't miss this restaurant. Starters, main courses and desserts based on potatoes are on the menu. There are also many Saarland dishes (no wonder, they all contain potatoes 😉). It's always pretty full, so make a reservation. And it gets pretty loud when the house is full.

Schade, das Essen war nicht besonders. Wir hatten Rumpsteak mit Pommes und al olio dip, Pellkartoffeln mit Quark, Hoorische mit Sauerkraut und bei allem war viel Luft nach oben! Es war alles fad, lieblos und bestand aus Convenience und beim Fleisch erwarten wir eine andere Qualität. Der Service war freundlich und dennoch sehr überfordert. Für das Ambiente kann niemand etwas, das kann man für sich selbst entscheiden! Wir werden da nicht nochmal einkehren! Wir haben bessere Erwartungen!

Bedienung ist flott und freundlich. Die Preise sind angemessen und das Essen war bis jetzt immer klasse.

Convinience Food, zumindest kommt der Flammkuchen so rüber. Kann man hin, muss man nicht gewesen sein. Bedienung wirkte etwas überheblich an unserem Kartoffeltag. Vlt hatten wir einfach einen schlechten Tag erwischt..

Nos atendieron muy bien y la comida estaba rica, pero algunos platos no eran muy abundantes. Las sopas eran ricas, los gnocchi estaban ricos también y los precios son normales
