Die Kartoffel in Saarbrücken

Four of us went to the Kartoffel for dinner. The quality and taste were very good! However, the quantity of food served was insufficient! When the dishes were cleared, we were asked about our impressions of the food, and we replied that the quality was very good, but unfortunately a little bit small! We were then told that they also have a gourmet block, where the food is a little less expensive! But I paid full price for the second meal, so it's absurd to cut costs on the amount of food. The restaurant should try to attract new customers with the gourmet block; they squandered that opportunity with us. We will report these schemes to our friends and advise everyone not to visit.

What a successful makeover! Very diverse and delicious menu for every mood and every hunger! Super friendly service with a beautiful outdoor terrace and a very successful new ambience inside. The menu always has something new to offer and you always feel right at home. It's the best spot in the city to enjoy a short break during your lunch break or at any other time of day. ❤️

We were in Saarbrücken for the first time ever. Dibbelabbes was recommended to us by Google as a typical Saarland dish. The restaurant was also recommended to us: The Potato. So we reserved a table and went there. The two service employees were super friendly and the food - the aforementioned Dibbelabbes - was also great. My wife had a great salad with prawns “hidden” in potatoes. Super tasty. We liked it. We enjoyed it. We felt comfortable. Thanks for that👍

Nice restaurant to eat out in Saarbrücken, tastes like grandma's. Great service staff. Price performance is right. The Nutella dumplings are highly recommended, best shared between two people.

We were there recently when we were visiting from Augsburg, it was simply perfect, the food was absolutely delicious and the service was more than friendly. We felt totally comfortable and welcome and will definitely be happy to come back!😊👍

We were here with two couples and sat outside at the St. Johanner Markt. My friend ordered french fries to share, I have to say that I have never had better fries in my life than these - unbelievable! I had pork fillet with mushroom cream sauce, broccoli and fried potatoes. The food was fantastic, the fried potatoes were to die for! Absolute tip! The service was friendly and competent. I didn't see the inside of the place.

The prices are simply too high for the quantities offered. I'm often in Freiburg and eat at Kartoffelhaus there. The quality is top-notch, and although Freiburg is one of the most expensive cities in Germany, the prices there are relatively not as high as at Kartoffelhaus in Saarbrücken—a shame. Fried potatoes cost €4.80 in Freiburg and taste really good, while in Saarbrücken they cost €5.90 and are soggy. The cocktails also actually contain alcohol and aren't as bland as in Saarbrücken. The dining scene in Saarbrücken has a lot of potential. More competition will be good for everyone, I think.

We had a wonderful evening in the potato. The atmosphere is just great with relaxed music, stylish ambience and an all around cozy vibe. The food was excellent: fresh, tasteful and prepared with great attention to detail. A real highlight! Particularly noteworthy is the friendly and attentive service. With their warm manner, the team ensures that you feel comfortable from the first moment. An all-round successful experience – we will definitely be back!

Ci vado più volte con mia moglie: ci si torna sempre volentieri. Meglio prenotare. La specialità sono le patate servite in mille versioni. Ne abbiamo assaggiate tante, sempre soddisfatti. Ottime le birre alla spina, specie la Weiss e la Köstritzer scura. In accompagno baguette di ottima fattura (ma servite in un panno: meglio la carta!). Non mancate questo locale!

Although I've only been once, I will start with 5 stars. I would like to try more entrees. The service was awesome. The food was good. Special props go to the fish soup. I had a small bowl but I think I see a large bowl in my future. 😁🤩 I tried also a traditional regional dish which looked interesting but was good with the sauce. Nice place 👌🏾 👍🏾

A very nice restaurant in the original part of Saarbrücken. Very friendly service and we also enjoyed the food very much. We'd love to come back.

Good dishes - everything with potatoes.

Service was good, there was nothing to complain about. Nice service. The food, on the other hand, I found quite modest, to put it nicely. I had the Hoorisch one and for just under €15 you can only get a handful of it. I think there were 5 of them. Portion far too small, but is garnished on an extremely large plate with an excessive amount of sauce so that it gives the impression of being more than it is. The salad was quite good but I just don't go to a restaurant called "the potato" to enjoy the side salad. Unfortunately they were weak in taste. I thought it was a shame, because potato dishes are the house specialty. Would have expected more. Ambiance was ok, but didn't suit my taste (although I admit that's debatable). Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the visit. Still could have been enough for 4 stars if the prices weren't so absurdly high for the amount of food you get. Unfortunately it only gets a mediocre 3/5, which is a waste of my money. For the price I would rather eat in one of the other restaurants at St Johanner Markt.

I was in the restaurant "Die Potato" together with a visitor from Bavaria to present Saarland cuisine and it was the right decision. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and delicious food. Everything a restaurant needs. If you like Saarland cuisine, this is the place for you.

We've been there for the third time now and everything was okay the first two times. But yesterday we were there with 4 people and I ate stuffed food and the price-performance ratio was good, but the other 3 dishes were far too small for the price, so the 3 people had to leave the restaurant hungry. After asking the staff, this was also criticized but it was not improved, unless there was a coffee on the house for everyone. For such high prices you shouldn't have to leave the restaurant hungry.

It's difficult to evaluate this correctly. First of all, the service is great. There is a young service worker who is gold dust in the industry. The food is good, could be even better with a little more refinement. But if you want to try Saarland cuisine, you're in good hands here.

We were there on a Saturday evening. Everything was fully booked, which speaks for the place. Therefore, I always recommend making a reservation in advance. Since everything is freshly prepared, it tastes fresher and better than in other restaurants. The conditions were all very friendly and attentive. What was very good was that there were also some dishes for people who eat gluten-free.

The restaurant was well attended, the food was delicious and the service was very friendly and helpful. We'd love to come back.

The potato in Saarbrücken offers a surprisingly diverse menu related to potatoes. The dishes are well prepared and offer a nice variety. The selection of vegetarian alternatives is particularly positive. I liked the combination of classic and modern interpretations of the potato. The price-performance ratio is right and the staff is friendly and attentive. The ambience is simple, but quite pleasant. Overall, a good choice for anyone who likes potato-themed dishes.

Unfortunately, the labeling of vegan/vegetarian dishes is very misleading. It seemed as if many dishes were also offered in vegan form, but when we ordered it turned out that only one salad and one other dish were offered in vegan form. Vegan and vegetarian are two different things and should be labeled accordingly. Unfortunately, the way it is currently handled is very misleading.

Food was ok, we had schnitzel Viennese style with fries or fried potatoes. But I don't understand why you put ketchup and mayo in a bowl instead of separately or asking what you want beforehand. I don't like mayo so I didn't have anything with the fries - they were otherwise quite good. You can also leave out the smeared strip of balsamic vinegar for decoration on the plate. It just doesn't look good - then it's better to leave it out. I've eaten schnitzel meat better. Like I said - it was ok, but I don't need to have it again.

The service is great and the Lyonnais pan was great

For the first time and the last time here, schnitzel from the fryer was really bad. I also didn't ask about my vaccination status. The good thing was it was hot. I wouldn't go as a couple. I mentioned the schnitzel thing, but it didn't come across to me. No cafe or anything like that.

The food wasn't that tasty, the service could have been better. Wasn't as good as expected.

I would like to write something about my visit, but it didn't happen. You reserve a table for a family celebration 3 weeks in advance, only to be called two days before in the evening and receive a cancellation. There is no alternative for 12 people at this time of year. Thank you for nothing. Just don't rely on it when you make a reservation there. I can now see how I can find a place for my people.

Today we were out with the Schlemmerblock. We didn't know the place yet. We were impressed by the interior design and decoration. When we mentioned that we were eating with the gourmet block today, the waitress looked at us very condescendingly. Three tables around us were asked whether everything was OK, and we weren't even glanced at. The food was delicious, the male waiter who cleared the plates was very nice. On the whole the staff is very rude. We were given the feeling that we were not welcome with the Schlemmerblock. Too bad for that.

We waited 50 minutes for food. Portion very small. Spaghetti with prawns €25, children's portion. The plate was only 1/4 full. Hooric, 5 small, well let's say long firm dumplings, on a broth-like sauce with bacon cubes. The side salad was good. The schnitzel came out of the deep fryer and tasted boring and fatty, the fries had the same taste. Hunger drove it in. Otherwise I found the card boring, nothing special. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the restaurant

Prima. Mein Essen hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Das kleine Restaurant, eher Bistro, sauber und sehr gut besucht. Servicekräfte super freundlich und nett. Aber ... mal vermerken: Sambuca immer anzünden und generell mit 3 Kaffeebohnen. Nur so ist es richtig und original ;-).

We, my family and I, became aware of the restaurant “The Potato” through the “Schlemmerblock” voucher book. The cozy atmosphere immediately appealed to us. The politeness and professionalism of the on-site staff was also extremely good. We quickly decided on a children's portion of Lyoner pan (Lyoner, onions, egg and potatoes fried together), a turkey breast salad and Saarländer Allerlei (i.e. beef and egg salad with other good things). We really enjoyed the food and the quantity was sufficient. We would love to come back there again. It is recommended to reserve in advance, as the restaurant also seems to be very popular with many other visitors to Saarbrücken.

My partner and I visited on November 23rd, 2024 around 1:30 p.m. "The Potato" Our order of drinks and food was juice spritzer 0.4 l €4.30 Radler 0.3 l €3.60 so far good. Meals were vegetable potatoes €15.50 2 split potatoes with (some) cheese combined Peppers/tomatoes and greens tiny vegetables. This price bears no relation to the portion on the plate! The egg salad with fried potatoes 12.90 € as well! There were no complaints about the taste. That's not how it works. I would have photos when I left “The Potato”. should do. Staff is very polite and friendly been - thank you. Maybe those responsible should think about it. Best regards.

We were there today. Despite the low level of activity, the two service staff were super stressed, inattentive and rude. The door was open, then I asked if it could be closed. This was done reluctantly and opened again after 30 seconds. At the beginning we were ignored for 20 minutes and we were not asked if the food was okay.

Want to eat there today. There were only three devices in the restaurant. We weren't allowed to sit down because it was supposedly fully booked. After half an hour there were still only a few guests sitting and the rest of the restaurant was empty. Furthermore, when we ate there a few weeks ago, the portions were too small and we weren't full. Well, in my opinion there are better restaurants.

It may be that I came to Saarland with too high expectations for food. It was difficult to find a parking space and I called 3 minutes before our table reservation to say we were coming, but a little late. No problem and thank you very much - they said. When we arrived about 15 minutes later, our table was gone, no one remembered our call and we got a table right at the kitchen entrance as an emergency solution (or because the dog wasn't welcome?). Unfortunately, that made for a bad start with an aftertaste. Unfortunately, the garlic baguette ordered as a starter never saw garlic in its life. It was very dry with minimal amount of oil and even less herbs. The “everything” on a 15cm long, half-cut baguette for €5.90… Not recommended. We ordered Dibbellabbes. My companion from Saarland said it was good. To me it just tasted like cheap oil that was used too often and unfortunately I used a lot of it. As a foreigner, I had to ask for the Maggi bottle, which didn't come automatically. I ate maybe half of it and was already sick. If it had been really well made, I would have said the price was right, but like that... And unfortunately the restaurant is specifically mentioned during the city tour, as if it were THE national dish. Really a shame. How the plate of baguette was taken away and asked if it was tasty and my answer was “No!” no further questions were asked. I would be interested to know what my customers think. My Cuba Libre saw an excessive amount of lime, but hardly any rum. There was some drilling in the kitchen on Saturday evening. At the next table they said that if it couldn't be fixed today, they would have to close tomorrow; but yes, they were just now dealing with this problem and were able to serve the guests without any problems. What bothered me more was that I didn't hear a vacuum cleaner to collect the dust that comes from drilling... in a kitchen where there is food lying around... I hope that other restaurants can improve Saarland's reputation.

The restaurant welcomes you with an attractive, cozy, modern ambience. Unfortunately, the reception from the service staff was not very warm. Looking at the menu and other guests' plates can really work up an appetite. We chose the Wiener-style schnitzel with fries and the cream schnitzel with fried potatoes. Both dishes came without a side salad, which to be honest we are not used to. The price of the dishes is a bit disappointing. Both potato side dishes were really very good (kudos to the kitchen). Unfortunately, the praise for the schnitzels and especially the so-called cream sauce can be canceled straight away. The schnitzels were wafer thin and didn't look like a pan but like a hairdresser, nothing special in taste. The cream sauce... Sorry, but really bad. The taste was reminiscent of cauliflower broth and the consistency was almost slimy. Maybe the restaurant "The Potato" should concentrate on everything that has to do with the great tuber, because the kitchen seems to really like that and leave everything else off the menu. We probably won't come again. For the price we expect a little more (in terms of taste).

It was as beautiful as described by other guests. We sat outside and were able to order drinks fairly quickly and they came quickly. Then the waitress didn't come back and didn't respond to anything, as if we were invisible. When I went to the restaurant myself to order, she seemed reluctant to take the order. But then again the food didn't come for a long time. When we decided to leave without eating and I wanted to pay for the drinks, they said the food would be ready now and we would get something to make up for it. But just something small. We then ate, but didn't accept anything as compensation. The food was ultimately good, but with fried potatoes and sausage salad, it's hard to understand why it took so long. So not recommended at all.

I was very disappointed with my choice of food. Dumplings half and half with sauerkraut. Lt. Map 1/2 hour waiting time, that was communicated by the waitress, it was ok for me. Actual waiting time: 1 hour. Two dumplings undercooked, two tablespoons of bacon sauce and a bowl of fart-dry sauerkraut. In the local catering industry, no one can make tasty sauerkraut anymore! And the dumplings were filled with a little veal liver sausage. I didn't know that either. This at a price of over €16. As the plates were being cleared, the question was asked, “Did it taste good?” I answered “no, it wasn’t that great.” No questions asked why! Hence the deduction for service! I actually experienced this and can also be confirmed by my companion!

Unfortunately, service was zero, I think the waitress had a bad day or just didn't feel like it. The food was okay.

It's a shame that old, partially rotten lettuce leaves are put on your plate. 😥 Half the salad plate was returned. Complaint also received no response. No excuse! This is not how you should treat guests.

Service = zero! Waited almost an hour for our food before we realized we hadn't even ordered yet! 3 waitresses outdid themselves with ignorance. After 10 minutes of waiting we were able to order the menu and 2 drinks and that was it. There was no response to calls or waves. We have never experienced anything like this. The guests at the two neighboring tables left the restaurant after 10 to 15 minutes because they were smarter. In front of the waitresses we left the restaurant after 70 minutes without paying. The waitress wasn't interested in that either! What was going on there? Were we invisible? In the wrong film?

I recently visited the restaurant “The Potato” and was very excited about the culinary potato creations. The name already promised a lot! Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that the fries weren't homemade - a scandal! For a restaurant with this name, you would expect potato works of art that come straight from the potato garden. Instead I got the frozen mass-produced goods that you can also find in the supermarket. The schnitzel was okay, but the potato breading? Well, it wasn't any better than a normal breading. I would have liked a little more potato charm! If “The Potato” is in the name, then please also add a portion of passion and creativity! Overall it was a fun evening, but next time I'm hoping for more potato magic - maybe a schnitzel in a potato costume? Until then, the hope remains for the real potato in the restaurant “The Potato”!

DANGER!!! The fries from the children's menu are USURY!!! We ordered a portion of fries, we thought for €6 you get a decent portion. But when this little pile of misery arrived, for this price, our jaws dropped!!! An additional mini portion of ketchup costs €1!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!! Very expensive!!! The Lyoner pan and Dibbelabbes were quite good, and the rest was fine too.

Essen war gut. Aber so einen unfreundliche Bedienung habe ich noch nie erlebt! Es war kein Tisch besetzt auf der Terrasse - dies kam uns komisch vor und wir fragten höflich ob wir an diesem Tisch Platz nehmen dürfen Antwort- ja sonst wäre ja wohl ein Schild drauf! Als ich mir zum Essen noch Ketchup bestellt habe wurde ich angepampt ob wir noch was wollen denn sonst müsse sie ja nochmal hin und her laufen! Ich selbst war jahrelang in der Gastronomie aber so ein Benehmen habe ich nie erlebt Schade, ich hoffe die Besitzer der Kartoffel wissen über ihr schlechtes Personal Bescheid Wir werden nicht mehr kommen!

Ich finde es eine Frechheit ein Schnitzel Wiener Art, mit einer hauchdünnen Scheibe Fleisch , welches ich in keinem anderen Restaurant in dieser Qualität gesehen habe,für 18,50 € und nur mit Pommes ohne ein Blatt von Salat.
