The Goldener Hahn is now an institution in Kreuzberg and for me one of the most pleasant and best restaurants in Berlin. It's the perfect mix of fantastic food that tastes like Nonna made it, a relaxed atmosphere, perfect service that is attentive but not too intrusive, very good ventilation (for me with long hair that's pretty important) and great music in the background and the opportunity to talk to the barman about the music. In short: it is the perfect Berlin experience in an Italian restaurant.

One of the best Italian restaurant outside Italy I’ve ever tried !

We had a great meal, the atmosphere was pleasant. Some loud music indeed, but not a problem for us disturbing

Unfortunately the prices are far too high for the quality of the food. Music too loud for a Monday evening and unsympathetic waiters. We hoped for more.

We made a Valentine’s day booking with the owner in person, asking for a specific table. Arriving at our reservation we found out he forgot about it and ofcourse had no space for us. His staff tried to make up for it by squeeze us in, but we got an uncosy cold spot next to the door. The wine and food were so-so and way to pricey. We spend 125eu the two of us which wasn’t worth the 2 courses and bottle of wine. Shame, cause the place looks nice, but it misses care & sophistication. Berlin is full of cool spots, so won’t come back here.

We had reserved a long time in advance, only to get the table right by the front door (which was only squeezed there). It was far too narrow, cold, uncomfortable and the stupid curtain was almost hanging on your plate all the time. Ambience 0 stars. Unfortunately, the food wasn't particularly great and couldn't save the evening. The only vegetarian main course was gnocchi in tomato sauce. Which would have been ok if it had been tasty. But unfortunately the gnocchi were soggy and the tomato sauce tasted like concentrate. That was a very expensive, messed up evening and definitely my last time in this restaurant.

They’re kind, welcoming and look after you from beginning to end. The food is tasty, of good quality, and prepared with love. The atmosphere, warm, intimate and enchanting. Just to find a “but”: if you want more quietness on a Saturday, for example, then book a table on the second room — on weekends, they might be playing some (greatly selected, too) vinyl records a bit louder, and if you prefer a more peaceful setup, this way it will be easier :)

Very Bad communication with customer. If make reservation be sure sit in the restaurant not wine bar on door. And the service woman say bad Italian words to customer.

Unfortunately it has deteriorated extremely: mediocre food, totally overpriced, with a lot of Bohai and the oh-so-cool analogue record player that keeps getting stuck: a lot of ado about nothing.

A solid four stars. I could give five but I reserve that for the most exceptional Michelin level establishments. But I have to say that the food here is not to be missed. We started with caponata, which was fabulous and made with exceptional care. We paired it to a Fuligini Brunello de Montalcino 2017 which drank quite well (we drank two bottles). There were the of us so we decided to share all dishes. Our primo was two pastas, pappardelle Ragu, and a fish penne, both perfect. Home made pasta that was luxurious to eat. Our secondi was rabbit cacciatore and it also was delicious. For dessert we moved to the bar for Sambuca( Molanari), espresso and tiramisu which was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal.

Cozy little restaurant with a candlelight atmosphere and great food! The ambience is lively, the jazz and house music and the bar give a slight bar feeling. The food is pretty good, they have a changing menu every day and always explain the dishes to guests. You will find delicious Italian classics and creative own creations. The only negative point is that the waiters are very friendly and accommodating, but they also seem quite rushed, which in my opinion makes the atmosphere a bit stressful at times. In terms of price, you pay between 30 and 50 euros per person for food and drink. All in all, a highly recommended restaurant with a lively atmosphere and good food.

Best Italian within 20 km. Service was super nice, crowd was good, food was great. Then go to the bar opposite. It couldn't be better

The food here is beyond disappointing. Tasteless, dull, and low quality. The starter was ice-cold and clearly prepared in advance. I also got a squid dish where the tomato sauce tasted tasted so bad. I could not eat it. No, the worst Italian restaurant I’ve ever visited. The wine was good, though.

I always think it's great there. The always changing dishes on the menu and the great service. A lot is always explained about it and the wines that are recommended always fit. We always feel very comfortable.

Never Again! The manager is just not friendly, the service is chaotic! The 2 other waitress does not speak German, not sure that they speak Italian … the communication is very difficult! You don’t feel welcome, at least more if you are Italian. The worst is the kitchen which looks very dirty! At least for this expensive price you expected a clean place! The room itself is a dark hole… never again for us! There are so much better in this area!

We loved the inspired Italian food (they will adjust for veggie/vegan), the vibe, the wine and our wonderful host Edo. Went twice in three days during marathon weekend. It’s popular so reserve and enjoy this cozy Kreuzberg gem.

High quality, solid dishes. The spinach salad with bacon and cheese was really nice! I would have liked to sit in there, but the music was too loud for me.

Extremely nice and competent service. The food and wine were excellent and a small complaint was accepted without hesitation and there was a small goodie on the house. We'd love to come back.

Despite the rain we were able to sit outside. The service was attentive, charming and very competent. The wine recommendation in particular was excellent. The food was very tasty.

I was looking forward to trying this place because of the great reviews but was really disappointed and so was my partner. Both out dishes were pretty bland, and quite frankly, my mom prepares a tastier pesto pasta than this place. Especially for a vegetarian dish very disappointing that it came with barely any veggies. The quality of the ingredients seems very good though, but if the taste is lacking, what does it help especially for this hefty price (20€ for pasta with pesto anyone!?). When I asked for the wine menu, the waitress oddly didn't want to provide me with one. Instead she suggested a wine without asking me at all for what I liked, very strange!

Had a great evening :) Everything was very tasty, unfortunately the mushroom pasta still had a lot of grains of sand in it.

Too bad our otherwise exquisite meal tasted like the second-hand cigarette smoke of a man affiliated with the restaurant—perhaps the owner, as he sat doing absolutely nothing, except smoking, throughout our meal.

The place is nice and if you are ready to pay 16 euros for a (really) way too small plate of pasta and an expensive glass of house wine that's the right place for you. The portion was actually ridiculously small and when I complained and ask for a better sized portion the manager had a laugh and said:" so that we are sure that you still have space for dessert..". The way he explained it was like, my place is always full of tourist ready to pay that price for such portion and if you don´t like it f.off. Well thats noted, thanks for nothing and non ci vediamo mai.

We had a menu for 8 people, you could choose whether it was meat or fish. Wine exclusive. The fish was limited to a few appetizer variations with calamaretti which were too fishy for me, I think TK goods were prepared for mass. The worst thing was the crab pasta without even a piece of crab meat, which was most likely pasta mixed with unfiltered fish stock. Disaster! Unfortunately my highlight was bread and wine. I was there a few years ago and I personally think the quality has declined significantly. The fact that I almost have to chase the waitress to order another bottle of wine because - oh wonder - 2 bottles of wine for 8 people isn't enough for long is downright ridiculous. Especially when wine is the easiest way to make the most profit. I thought the wine selection was good! The 3 small desserts for 4 PAX each lead me to the following comment from a good Italian friend: "Porco dio"!

Authentic Italian cuisine excellently cooked. Also an exquisite espresso. Magnificamente👌🏻

This place was, years ago, exceptional. Every year it gets worse, however, and we have given up on it. If I am honest with myself, I believe that I will likely go at least one more time, although when this happens my expectation is to be disappointed. I hope to be disappointed in that disappointment.

This is not a schickimicki Italian. This is an authentic italian place with great food, great wine, supergreat service (where did you get tall and good looking waiters like this?!?), the ambient is relaxed and the clienetelle super interesting. This is my absolute favourite italian place in Berlin. In love.

Great Italian food, one of the best in town. Pasta was really good, the wines are exquisite and the service was also great. Definitely leave room for dessert, the tiramisu and panna cotta are godly!

The price is more for a special occasion, but the food, wine and atmosphere are great. It's also nice that you don't have to order water brought in from Italy. Especially for Berlin: super friendly and attentive service. Grace!

The Golden Rooster offers an unparalleled dining experience. The cuisine offers unique taste experiences and I don't know the ambience in any other shop in Kreuzberg.

The place is cozy and beautiful. The prices are fair for the food quality and service is carefully, quick and well organized. I went with my family (7) for the second time, and everything runs well. Thanks to this small neighborhood restaurants.

Very nice atmosphere and cool staff but the food is so overpriced considering the small portion size and the not-too-great taste (a pasta al dente should still, at some point, touch some water). Paying 30€ and going home hungry - wouldn't come again or recommend it

The meat eaters in our group were happy. However, completely unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans! There was only a vegetarian main course. The vegetables were partly overcooked, but also tough, only salted (but more than a lot!), and prepared unimaginatively. Price-performance ratio is not right here at all! Well, I had nice conversations and was at least able to get my fill of the beautiful piece...

For us, this restaurant is a very special place. Perfect for a romantic evening!

This restaurant is hidden in the middle of the typical streets, as if it didn't want to attract attention with its traditional name and charming ambience. Here, traditional Italian cuisine meets a trendy atmosphere, while international guests and local connoisseurs alike can enjoy the best of both worlds. A visit to the "Golden Rooster" is a pleasure and an experience that inspires Hollywood and the left-wing bourgeoisie alike. Rightly so.

Perfect cocktails, wines, food and atmosphere. Loved the bar and open kitchen. We ate the fennel salad, carpaccio, caponata, polenta, ragu, and tiramisu; all were wonderful. Fresh baked bread and pasta daily. Delicious Negroni and Nebbiolo. Service was top. Thank you! Will be back soon.

A wonderful way to spend a spontaneous dinner for two

The food is somewhat spiced up, Italian home cooking, which you won't find at the standard Italian restaurant. Everything is very well cooked, only the noodles were too firm. The prices are quite high. The wine list is large and interesting, but unfortunately there is not enough selection by the glass. The ambience is successful shabby chic with the furnishings of a trattoria. The service is more like trattoria than ristorante.

Ich war das erste mal das zum Abendessen. Der Laden ist nicht sehr groß, aber sehr beliebt und entsprechend sehr voll. Man sitzt relativ nah Tisch an Tisch. Dennoch hat uns der Abend sehr gefallen. Das Essen war sehr, sehr gut, die Weinempfehlung ebenso. Wir hatten 3 Vorspeisen und zwei Hauptgerichte und alles war von sehr guter Qualität und Geschmack. Der Service war sehr charmant. Eine Empfehlung, wenn man etwas feiner essen will und nicht so sehr aufs Budget achten muss.

Lovely space and good food but the service was really poor. We waited 45 mins to have our order taken and service remained slow and difficult for the rest of our meal. There was only one person waiting on tables with a full restaurant. Not a good experience for a more expensive/up market place.

A beautiful authentic Italian restaurant in the center of Berlin. Service is super friendly, food is delicious and the cocktails are excellently blended. This is the experience you need to try. Hard to find negatives in this place. I was super satisfied.

We went on a Wednesday night as a group of 3. The wine was good, but the food was a tragedy. The prices are insanely high for the quality; fettuccine with broccoli was €20 for undercooked pasta (I know what al dente is - this was just undercooked) that had NO flavor at all and some random pieces of baby broccoli leaves. It tasted like the inside of a dishwasher. We had to drown it in olive oil and salt/pepper for it to be edible. I’m not kidding when I say I could have cooked this at home while blackout drunk and it would have tasted 100x better. We also got a goat cheese and leek appetizer that was so small you could eat it in one bite for €13. Service was ok but you would expect more from a place with such prices and atmosphere. A friend said she couldn’t tell if there were vegetarian options on the menu and asked the waitress if there were any and the waitress said “yes” and walked away. I genuinely do not get the hype of this place.

Wir waren spontan an einem Dienstag Abend da, obwohl noch zwei Tische frei waren, die nicht als reserviert gekennzeichnet oder gedeckt waren, wurden wir an den Tresen verwiesen, wo wir dann dauerhaft von viel zu lauter Musik beschallt wurden. Die Tische wurden später an andere Gäste ohne Reservierungen vergeben. Der Service war sehr langsam und unaufmerksam, erst als wir uns die Karte von der rumstehenden Tafel schon selbst übersetzt hatten kam jemand, um uns die Getränkekarten zu bringen und zu fragen, ob wir Hilfe bräuchten. Das bestellte Essen und der Wein kamen schnell und waren wirklich sehr gut, allerdings war das Essen für die Menge doch etwas zu teuer. Nach dem Essen dauerte es wieder sehr lange, bis man auf uns aufmerksam wurde und abräumte. Wir werden den Laden nicht nochmal besuchen, gutes Essen reicht (vor allem) bei dieser Preisklasse nicht aus.

Trotz des guten Essens leider einen Abend erlebt, der doch sehr durch verschiedene unschöne Dinge negativ beeinflusst wurde. Wie gesagt, das Essen ist gut, jedoch einfach zu teuer. 18 Euro für 3 Jakobsmuscheln und 20 für ein einfaches Ragu ist zu viel. 36 für ein Schmorhauptgericht auch. Leider ist man nach Vorspeise, Pastagericht und Dessert auch leider nicht wirklich satt. Ergo ein Stern Abzug für das schlechte Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Nächster Stern geht dafür weg, dass die Getränkekarte so ausgelegt ist, dass man nichts normalpreisiges zu trinken mehr bekommt. Ein Glas Wein ist 9 Euro, das Bier kostet umgerechnet 11,33 für den halben Liter. Das ganze wird leider durch den schlechten Service nicht besser. Von den Getränkebestellungen wurden mehrere trotz Nachfragen mehrfach vergessen. Eine Person bekam erst zum Hauptgang den Aperetiv. Sehr unwirsch dann die Reaktion der Chefin bei unserem Wunsch getrennt zu bezahlen. Es ist mir ziemlich Wurst ob das in Italien nicht üblich ist. Das Restaurant liegt in Berlin. Ebenso unschön: Als Rechnung wird ein Zwischenbeleg ausgedruckt, was üblicherweise dazu dient das Finanzamt zu bescheissen. Der Hinweis darauf wurde ebenso unfreundlich aufgenommen. Alles in allem also gutes Essen und schönes Ambiente, aber leider Abzüge beim Service und die Preisgestaltung, die den fahlen Eindruck hinterlässt, man versucht einen aufs Messer auszunehmen. Und den Staat wahrscheinlich auch noch.

wir sind heute spontan hier eingekehrt, haben einen platz an der bar bekommen und ich bin begeistert…. schon alleine der laden ist ein besuch wert, fantastisches ambiente, der barkeeper legt parallel noch vinyl auf und hat by the way einen sehr guten musikgeschmack, wenn dann auch noch der besitzer dich bei der wein- und essensauswahl beraet, kann nichts mehr schief laufen… service, essen, ambiente…. alles einfach klasse, danke dafuer🦋

First things first, the restaurant is amazing. It is indeed another take on coziness with a bar and a DJ, the atmosphere is very nice. Second, the service provided from Angelina was outstanding! Smiling, professional, attentive and on point recommendations. If you are willed to be open for something different, you found your place. Just as side note, the food was staggering. We will most definitely be back again! Chapeau

Toll, toll, toll… Wer italienische Küche liebt, muss da hin.

Two of us went on a Tuesday night before a concert. They were very accommodating to our relatively limited turnaround time, but didn't make us feel rushed or like we were being too demanding! Our waiter, Angelina, was extremely professional and knowledgeable, had excellent suggestions. This place has been around for about 20 years or so. The interior has a rustic Italian feeling and the original frescos on the ceiling have been around for over 100 years, and were preserved during renovations during the COVID-19 shutdown. The menu changes daily based on what they have available, and they get their ingredients from mostly local and responsibly harvested / farmed sources. We ordered two starters, finnochi stufati (fennel slow-cooked in tomato sauce) & beef carpaccio. Both came with some arugula/rocket, served cold. They were excellent complements, and the parmesan on the carpaccio was mild and added a delightful flavor to the mix. I don't drink alcohol, but my partner had a negroni to start, which he said was a very well-balanced classic preparation. For our entrées, we chose the fettucine with seasonal mushrooms, and cavatelli with fish ragù (included whitefish & mussels). My partner asked for a recommendation for a red wine to go with his meal: he was given a medium-bodied nebbiolo, which he said was exactly the kind of wine he enjoys most. The noodles were perfectly al dente. The mushrooms were so good, almost sweet. I don't remember if they were cooked in butter, but the earthy flavor was delightful and grounding. We were really full by the time we finished our meals, so we didn't order dessert (the options were panna cotta, crème brûlée, or a chocolate mousse with orange compote), but we will be returning tonight after dinner elsewhere for dessert. Our bill, with added tip, came out to €105. Our waiter offered to call us a taxi to our concert, but we had already arranged our own travel. Still, the offer was thoughtful and shows just how present and considerate everyone was. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who wants a classic Italian dining experience with homemade, high-quality dishes in a Kreuzberg mainstay.

Maden var opreklameret, lidt irriterende at man kun kan se menuen på en tavle, der sendes rundt. Meget høj musik i det ene lokale, det er mere roligt i det andet.

La mia esperienza è sempre molto positiva quando mi ritrovo in questo piccolo gioiellino del Est Berlino. Il servizio è impeccabile e i ragazzi che ci hanno accolto sono bravi e simpatici. La cucina ha un concetto italiano e ho sempre mangiato bene qui. Non venivo qui da un paio d’anni e devo dire che le Tagliatelle al ragù bolognese e lo stracotto erano passabili perché troppo speziati! La cucina Italiana è un Must! La cannella in queste ricette non c’entra niente! Grazie comunque spero di ritornare e ritrovare i sapori autentici di un tempo!

Was there few years ago and was amazed with the food, but this time I was sooo disappointed, its even sad. Food tasted very poorly, prices extremely high for that type of food and location, service also could be more friendly. We ordered a starter, which was 4 scallops for 24 eur, one pasta with mushrooms 22 eur (was very very mediocre) and mixed fish main course for 32 eur, which was the biggest disappointment - 3 mussles, 2 small shrimps, one small piece of totally overcooked fish and polenta pie. Only the dessert, white chocolate mousse was really good. All in all is really disappointing how once a real gem in Kreuzberg, turned into overpriced mediocre food place.

This is a top notch Italian restaurant. The food was delicious, the atmosphere nice and cozy. You can tell everyone is passionate about what they’re doing. Will definitely come back.

Food was just blended and bad, not cooked properly. Also, prices of dishes are high for the amount you get. If not the nice waitress, we would have just stood up and walked away without paying.

We (family of 4) had dinner there. Overall it was fine but there were several annoyances. First, the menu is on a board, so you don't get to see it and you rely on the waiters for explanations. Never a full good solution. Second, my squid on grill came way too cooked, it was hard to slice it. No waiter came to ask how is the food. I didn't want to return the dish and wait again. We asked for water that didn't came too. Eventually when we wanted to go, I told the waiter that the disk was bad and I ask for the check, the first one understood something is wrong and told to the head waiter but nothing happened. I asked him another time and he offered to box it... I asked him to call the head waiter for came eventually and listened, didn't say anything and eventually they billed me the full amount.

Always a pleasure to eat and drink here. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, staff attentive and nice and the food simply delicious! There is also a large selection of wines (mainly Italian of course).

A really pretentious but basic Italian restaurant that do not deserved to be visited. The food was good even though I'm expecting something better than what I can cook at home. 20€ with a fancy name for some basic Bolognese Pasta AND a portion that could fill a baby's stomach. We needed to eat something else after. An awful service experience. The waitress is judging and pushing you to order more things than you actually want and she is obviously not friendly at all. Finally, they have a menu of the day and... that's it. No cards, no other dishes. There are plenty of Italian restaurants that deserve your money more than this one.

Wine was the only thing I enjoyed here. Typical Italian service (slightly arrogant) food mediocre and over priced.

We’ve had a wonderful event with 24 people on a Saturday evening. Giorgia was lovely and has always been available for clarifications and questions in advance to the event. The food was amazing and the service close to perfect, having us until 2:30 in the morning with the best mood and kindness. We will definitely visit again and again and again :)
