Der Drachenfels in Bad Honnef

I celebrated my birthday here 4 weeks ago. To say it was a perfect evening is definitely an understatement. In addition to the outstanding support from Emilia Correia Neumann, whom I warmly, urgently and enthusiastically recommend, the restaurant was convincing across the board. The food (buffet) was sensational, the service was loving, unobtrusive and yet attentive, and the ambience was great all around. A photo box also provided funny and unforgettable impressions. My guests still write to me today saying what a beautiful and memorable evening they had.

I was with them on Saturday. Our waitress was very nice and the food was OK. I'm just wondering how they can employ such an unfriendly waiter, the way they treat the other employees is very questionable. Especially today, in the tense personnel situation, you should think about whether you want to do this to your other employees.

DISASTERFUL, arrogant, condescending and incompetent service

For a busy top tourist attraction there is a good selection of tasty food served quickly and attentively.

A fantastic view. It's incredibly inconspicuous and only takes about 8-9 minutes to get there on the cog railway. Very surprisingly, you will be amazed by the view. Wonderful colorful leaves and the vastness of the Ruhr area can be revealed. The castle itself is quite unspectacular and only very poorly preserved, but it's worth it!

Short stop for a cup of tea which is reasonably priced. The building seems cold.

Inside you can only order using a QR code and sit in a fairly cool room. Little atmosphere. The food is slightly overpriced, but this is due to the location and is therefore acceptable. Unfortunately the service failed. The waitress accidentally spilled a cup on me, but instead of apologizing, she simply ran away. During the subsequent cleaning, the floor and chairs were cleaned quickly, but I wasn't even offered a cloth.

The view is fantastic, everything else is underground. Food quality is poor, tastes like it came from the microwave. Wilted lettuce leaves warmed up together with cheap fries. Prices are impressive. Self-service exclusively via cell phone, unfortunately impossible due to the lack of WiFi and hardly any mobile data at the top of the Drachenfels. Each mini pack of ketchup of 17 ml costs extra. Unfortunately no recommendation!!

It's really great there was an aquarium and there was a red cockroach in the toilet of the aquarium

The view while eating is amazing The restaurant was very busy, ordering via QR code went smoothly and the food arrived very quickly. The service staff was very friendly 😊 What really disappointed me was potato salad from a can…..that could be better, right?

With the view, the food can taste great. Had bratwurst in bread for €4.

Drachenfels is always beautiful, great views and you can walk up and down.

Drachenfels means the dragon rock because there are only rocks left which they call the castle, but the path on foot is highly recommended where you can enter caves or a small reptile zoo and you can see 2 castles or mansions that are beautiful. The food above is.....nice 😅

Nice good day, the service here is terrible in my opinion. Not just the service, but also the bitter atmosphere that prevails here. The food also tastes rancid. I would definitely not recommend you to show up here.

I didn't find it that comfortable - it was more like being in an outdoor pool (loud/impersonal)

Whether you hike up and down or take the Drachenfelsbahn, both are nice and enjoying the view or a refreshment in liquid/solid form = nice if you have these options = good things are often closer than you think

The cake and coffee were good. Staff understaffed but hardworking and friendly. Nevertheless we had to wait longer. Nicely done for a tourist restaurant. It's just a tourist place.

Fantastic location, but they have the typical gastro problem of getting enough service staff. Accordingly, the service was subpar during our visit; ordering via QR code is recommended. My beer glass arrived unwashed or at least dirty. Food was okay so far.

An exceptional viewpoint at the terminus of a z rack train not to be missed

I can only report positive things! Easy ordering and payment via mobile phone. (Scan the card on the table using the QR CODE... the rest is self-explanatory.) Everything comes to the table exactly as you ordered it and that too, from friendly staff. The ladies and gentlemen there are really running their heels off... and still smiling. Thank you!

Service is poorly organized and unfriendly. After reporting and responding several times, we were not served and then left after 15 minutes.

When it comes to the view, the restaurant is unbeatable. The coffee and cake served are also delicious. I especially recommend the waffles. And compared to a previous experience of mine, the service today is really good. You can easily order and pay online and even leave a tip there. Our order came very quickly even though it was pretty busy. And: the service was very friendly.

We were in the restaurant that is at the terminus of the cog railway. Pure disappointment! Totally exorbitant prices for convenience goods and canned stew. E.g. mayo or ketchup sachets for €1.00 Canned lentil stew over €10.00. It's a shame that this tourist processing spoils the fantastic scenery and you're no longer in such a good mood after visiting this restaurant. It should be mentioned, however, that the service staff was really very friendly and helpful.

Nice modern gastronomy with small snacks. Nice friendly service. I found the menu via QR-CODE and cashless payment system to be very good and contemporary. Unfortunately, I found the souvenir shop inside very exaggerated and inappropriate. All in all, a nice location for relaxed eating and drinking with a wonderful view, provided the weather cooperates.

A very nice restaurant with a large outdoor area and a fantastic view. You can easily order using the QR code on the table and everything is delivered super quickly. We found the prices a bit high, which is normal for tourist restaurants. Gladly again, friendly service.

Always worth a trip. It's best to walk to the castle and then continue to the castle to enjoy the view from the castle and then from the castle. And then comfortably take the train back downhill.

The staff was more than “just” overwhelmed. There was a wedding at noon and that meant there would be nice decorations etc. Very pretty! But that means that day-to-day business gets disrupted. Not nice. Ordering by scanning is a great thing. If only the kitchen or anyone else would really play along. But it will get a second chance.

Food super tasty. The fries in particular are really tasty. One of the waitresses was a bit overwhelmed...it was probably due to some of the guests simply not being able to behave. Otherwise everything was really flawless and it's really worth eating there.

Recharging your batteries here after a long hike is divine, beautiful views and super nice staff. You can order and pay online with your cell phone or with a waitress. Food was a little unsalted but that was quickly remedied. Overall a 4.5/5

I was really excited. A diverse menu, friendly service and a spectacular view while eating. What more could you want? There are QR codes on the tables so you can order and pay for your food using your cell phone. This way you can order as soon as everyone has decided and leave without waiting long for the bill. It was a great day

Unfortunately it is already very automated. Ordering is done via mobile phone. Specializing in currywurst and schnitzel with fries. Higher price range. There is also a self-service stand. Fries were O.K.

Great view from the terrace. I really missed vegan alternatives when it came to eating here! Unfortunately there was a bit of chaos in the service - food and drink orders were unfortunately lost.

We only had something to drink, so we can't say anything about the food. Seems like pretty good canteen food. The prices are reasonable for one of these. Unfortunately, you can smoke everywhere, which makes it unbearable to enjoy the view and the cool drink.

There are 5 stars for the wonderful view, the friendly staff, the fast service and the delicious food. Here you can relax and feel good. It's worth sitting there and enjoying the surroundings.

A very charming employee selflessly provided my dehydrated running partner with plenty of drinking water, even though the restaurant was already closed. Thanks so much!

I think the Scan & Order idea is great. It was quick, uncomplicated and everyone was happy.

We come from Bad Honnef and regularly hike up to the Drachenfels. Unfortunately, we have experienced several times that it was closed when the weather was nice, even though it was supposed to be open according to the opening times. The young waitresses were all in a bad mood at 5:15 p.m. because people still wanted to order something to drink, “the kitchen is already closed” and they let the guests feel this. Given the fantastic location, it's really a shame!

Service didn't know their stuff and was totally overwhelmed

The shortage of skilled workers (waiters) is very noticeable here. Not recommended.

The prices are exorbitantly expensive. Also for the beautiful view. The train journey isn't exactly cheap either. You should consider not hiking instead. This can quickly become expensive, especially with children.

Stayed there with a beautiful view

I understand that everything has its price. However, with an expensive 12.90 euro currywurst fries, you can't put fresh mayonaise on the fries, but rather a packaged Heinz mayonaise bag with 17 ml content (not even enough for the small McDonald's fries) is charged at 1 euro (Purchasing price certainly under 15 cents), I find it modest and outrageous. This is how you mess things up with your guests.

A really fantastic location! Wonderful view, nice seats on the large terrace. Top! But unfortunately that was it. The overpriced food was on the level of a third-class motorway service station or gas station after midnight. The schnitzels are of course the cheapest ready-made product, as are the fries. That then costs €18.50! A mini sachet of mayo €1!!!!! Outrageous.

We ordered online and waited probably 40 minutes for beer and juice. Everyone else got their orders before us. We were told three times that someone would be coming soon and were continually ignored.

I was amazed at the quality of the food. Extremely friendly staff and a beautiful view over the Rhine Valley.

It is a castle from about 140 years ago that is very well preserved. It is worth it for the interior, gardens and views It costs about 18 euros to enter with the shuttle train that takes you up and down. You can also go up and/or down on foot but there is a lot of unevenness. It has a terrace with a cafeteria but we did not use it. Also an ice cream cart. At the top there is a vestige of a tower and another terrace with even better views.

Scan & order? Never again! While we ordered and paid online, the table next door ordered from the waitress. They got drinks after 10 minutes, we waited 19 minutes for two juices.

We were able to enjoy a small scoop of ice cream together! It was good, but the choices had been robbed, there was nothing left... But hey, we went to console ourselves by taking a trip to the store. Where we finally found the legendary dragon of this mountain. Even if we didn't buy it, we gave it a little first name: Albert!

2 of 3 menus were ok. The penne was absolutely inedible!!! Accordingly, they were cleared away - our problem, not theirs 🙄

Decent food at inflated prices, which are too high even considering the difficult delivery conditions. Service friendly but overwhelmed with special requests.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not meet our expectations: the currywurst was not grilled until crispy, the sauce was very sour and the fries were so hard that they were barely edible. In addition, you had to wait forever for the service staff (they referred to an online ordering system, for which you need a credit card or PayPal). Next time we'll get a kebab in Königswinter (at least the price-performance ratio is right there).

We had a very good experience at the snack bar at Drachenfels. The food was tasty and of good quality. I particularly liked that you had the option to conveniently order with your cell phone, but could also do it the traditional way. The prices were reasonable. We sat outside in the open air which made the atmosphere even more pleasant. All in all, a great place for a meal after a hike at Drachenfels!

Went up there twice half an hour before the official closing time after a long hike - both times it was already closed. Don't rely on something to drink after a long day

Beautiful view, very nice opportunity for a meal break. Friendly staff, generous portions. Unfortunately there wasn't enough sauce for the currywurst. Otherwise everything is fine.

Unfortunately, during our visit (June 23), the service wasn't that good. Some of the 3 waiters were stressed and totally overwhelmed with the many tables. As a guest, you first have to open the card and order using a QR code. Then pay in advance. Our cake came very quickly after a few minutes, but the coffee only came after 30 minutes and had cooled down. Other guests waited longer than 45 minutes and then insulted the young waitress. She was at her wits' end. On the one hand, the digital menu and ordering relieves the waiters, but frustration increases because of the advance payment. The operator should hire more staff on busy days and also take on responsibility towards customers, otherwise the current waiters will soon be gone.

It's nice to sit there and enjoy the view. The train will take you up and down again if you want. I liked it. You should have done it.

Heute war nur dieses Restaurant auf dem Gipfel des Drachenfels geöffnet. Und das hat es im negativen Sinne in sich! Zunächst beginnt das Rätselraten, wo und wie man im Selbstbedienungsrestaurant sein Essen bestellen kann. Hinweisschilder? Fehlanzeige! Dann den Eingang gefunden. Dort konnte man sich an billig wirkenden Kaffeeautomaten seinen Kaffee selbst abfüllen. Trotzdem horrende Preise dafür, so wie auch für eigentlich alles dort überteuert ist. Zu Essen haben wir uns nichts geholt. Obwohl die Teller, die wir draußen auf den billigen Holztischen mit den harten Holzstühlen, doch ansprechend angerichtet schienen. Nur, wenn wir soviel Geld für Speisen ausgeben wollen, dann suchen wir uns auch ein entsprechend gehobenes Restaurant und keine Selbstbedienung mit Gartentischen und -Stühlen. Absolute Enttäuschung, nein danke, nicht wieder.

The restaurant at Drachenfels has a fantastically beautiful view. Food is to go, you have to order at the checkout and pick it up yourself and the prices are quite high.

Perfectly organized! Ideal Scan&Go system for such high crowds as this sunny Sunday! No waiting for waiters, ordering on your cell phone, paying with ApplePay (or credit card or Paypal) at the touch of a button. Drinks came after 2 minutes, food after 4 minutes. Fries were hot and crispy, waffles were wonderfully fluffy. Prices fair. This is how it should be everywhere!

The view(s) are fantastic. From Cologne Cathedral to the Siebengebirge, beautiful impressions can be collected here. The Drachenfelsbahn 12 euros per person for the 5-minute ride on the very slow train is clearly a rip-off. In addition, the staff at the Drachenbahn is unfriendly!! The castle ruins themselves are quite small, but also offer a beautiful view. The new plateau with restaurant is too modern for me, the prices in the catering industry are a bit too high...

It's nice to have something to drink or eat up there and enjoy the view.

We only ate two portions of French fries from the snack stand, they were fresh and hot.

The food is tasty. Ordering only via mobile via QR code is a disaster. Very nice place, wonderful views of the Rhine and the surrounding area.

We did the climb on foot. Partly very narrow and steep, but definitely doable. Upstairs we drank delicious beer and ate a little something - at a somewhat excessive price for me. The view was extremely beautiful

We weren't served as they were under staffed and seemed really overwhelmed, so we walked out.

We only had fries for the kids. Everyone else in our group only drinks. Everything was very tasty and arrived quickly after ordering with a QR code that could be scanned at the table. With the view in sunny weather you can hardly imagine anything better. We will be back!
