I ordered a falafel and grilled vegetable platter. A total disappointment. Two-thirds of the grilled vegetables were actually fried potatoes. And all this for the exorbitant price of 15 euros. When I complained, the only response was, "That's just how it is here." That was my last visit for the foreseeable future.

"The Doner Shop" is by far one of the best doner shops around. The meat is always fresh, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The sauces are homemade and incredibly delicious, and the vegetables are crispy and fresh. I especially want to highlight the friendly service – you're always greeted with a smile and served quickly. The portions are generous, and the value for money is excellent. I'll definitely be back – highly recommended! 🌯👏

This kebab shop completely won us over 💚 The food was not only incredibly delicious and fresh, but it also left us with a truly satisfying feeling. It was light, pleasant, and totally satisfying. You can immediately tell that they work with love, passion, and high-quality ingredients. The team is super friendly, very warm, and extremely hospitable. There are some delicious vegan options, but they also spontaneously experimented and combined ingredients! It's simply impressive how much they cater to each individual guest. The kebab à la Chefin was an absolute highlight and everyone loved it. After our meal, we were immediately offered tea, which perfectly rounded off our visit. This small gesture further demonstrated how much they prioritize their guests' well-being 💚 The shop is also very clean, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the people there are simply wonderful. We all felt very comfortable and at home 🫶🏼 We will definitely be back!

Ever since we saw the SWR documentary about this kebab shop, we've been wanting to try an authentic döner à la Chefin here, and last Friday we finally made it to Mainz and got the chance. The owners are all incredibly nice and friendly! Simply warm and welcoming. We were even offered a complimentary tea right away :) The döner à la Chefin lived up to our high expectations! Delicious, everything fresh, prepared with love, and a generous portion that really fills you up. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and if we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely be back!

Very tasty doner kebab. The meat isn't your average, it's something special. The taste is excellent and the food is very clean. Our children loved it too.

Stay away from this place unless you have absolutely no idea about Turkish döner; it's by far the worst döner shop. The dürüm is dried out and not fresh, no homemade bread, everything is bland. It's not worth it and doesn't taste good. They're very unfriendly, and if you criticize anything, you should keep your distance.

Very tasty dishes and pleasant ambience

After reading a newspaper article about the kebab shop, it was at the top of my list for my annual vacation in Wiesbaden/Mainz – and I wasn't disappointed. I had the kebab a la Chefin, which at €13 seems expensive at first, but the quantity is definitely worth the price. Furthermore, the quality is top-notch: - The salads are fresh and evenly distributed on the kebab – I'd just like to add a bit of parsley and lemon. - The meat is juicy and flavorful. - The sauces are homemade and equally delicious. The highlight, however, is the owner's homemade bread. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and simply delicious. The owner also personally brought me a free cup of tea to go with my meal. The trip was worth it.

I had the doner kebab Ala Chefin – and it was by far the best doner I've ever eaten! The bread is absolutely unique, the spicy sauce delivers what it promises, the salad is wonderfully fresh, and the meat is made from pure, tender layered meat – no minced meat, no compromises. The service is also impressive: attentive, warm, and always friendly. I'll definitely be back! 😊

Freshly prepared and very tasty

October 11, 2025. 12:10 p.m. Save yourself the trip. Drove by specifically because of the TV report. A disinterested man behind the counter who didn't even say hello. My husband came shortly after, and there was no response to his hello either. There was only one customer with two children in the place. Perhaps gay-unfriendly, although it was stated otherwise. Where were the leading women! There was no gözleme because it hadn't been delivered or something similar. The mumbling was inaudible. We left.

We were drawn to the idea by the SWR report and made a special detour from Oberstdorf back to Cologne. Unfortunately, we weren't greeted, nor were we able to try the doner kebab a la chefin, as they apparently lacked the ingredients. We weren't offered any alternatives. Instead, there was just silence... what a shame... We'll see if we try it again.

Super delicious food, incredibly friendly service, which deserves every star. It's a really comfortable place to sit and enjoy the relaxing music. It was a great way to unwind after a long day. For me from Dresden, the cocktail sauce was something completely new, and we were also able to try it beforehand. Much continued success to the wonderful team, and best wishes from the East. 🧡

We're visiting Mainz, and I was looking for nearby food on the menu, and the name immediately caught my eye. I just walked by one day and was impressed by the outside. Today, I felt like having a kebab. The staff are cheerful and very friendly. They specifically ask what sauces and vegetables they want in them. It was very quick. The kebabs are well-filled and filling. It was very tasty; it's almost a shame we're from Dresden and can't eat here more often.

We discovered this kebab shop through the SWR documentary "Handicrafts." We drove from Ludwigsburg to Mainz and were not disappointed. The owner is super nice, even nicer and more personable than on TV. We had a kebab plate, a traditional kebab called "Gözleme ala Chefin," and a vegetarian dürüm. Everything was fresh, delicious, and made with a lot of passion. We'll try the traditional kebab next time.

This was our second time here and we were able to try the kebab a la chefin today. It was truly delicious. The bread, in particular, was very good and flavorful. The long dough resting time makes it very digestible. You can really taste the passion that goes into it. The service, however, is particularly noteworthy. The shop is not only lovingly designed, it is also lovingly run. Please keep it up—you're doing a great job!

We, too, discovered the kebab shop through the SWR Handwerkskunst series, and the 60-km drive was definitely worth it. Fatma is the epitome of gracious hospitality, the kebab à la Chefin, with just the right amount of spice, is the best kebab ever, and the vegetable dürüm is the perfect meat-free alternative. If the show hadn't already given us our favorites, choosing from the 70 dishes on offer wouldn't have been easy.

I first discovered the kebab shop about a year ago through the SWR Landesschau Baden-Württemberg program. Today, I drove 178 km on my scooter to sample the kebab meat on display. After eating a delicious kebab plate, I revealed myself as a kebab tourist and was immediately offered a cup of tea. Then Fatma came into the shop. I was greeted warmly with shining eyes. She told me she had relatives in Pforzheim and knew about the long journey. I wasn't allowed to leave the shop without a gözleme prepared by the owner—in the owner's own style, of course. Mashala!! All I can say is, very well cooked, dear Fatma. When I got home, I heated the flatbread in the oven at 200°C for 10 minutes and ate it straight away. It tasted wonderful, and if I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely stop by. I'll try the vegetable version and the falafel. I'm already looking forward to it.

100% recommendation! I visited there on August 25, 2025. After I inquired by phone beforehand, I was told that I could of course bring my dog. Due to the two kebab grills, the temperature inside was high, and the attentive owner immediately brought me a chair and table outside so that my dog ​​and owner could sit outside. The food was very good and the value for money is excellent. I fully agree with the positive reviews. I wish there were a kebab shop like this near my hometown. When I'm in the Bretzenheim area again, I will definitely come back.

I ordered a normal kebab from this shop. At first glance it didn't look particularly good in terms of the quality of the various coleslaws and the meat. And unfortunately, after eating the kebab I realized that I felt very, very sick and subsequently had diarrhea and vomiting.

Hand on heart, by far the best kebab shop in Mainz

We discovered the kebab shop through the SWR YouTube documentary and drove from Frankfurt to Mainz to try the kebab. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and immediately felt at home. We ordered a kebab a la Chefin and a Gözleme a la Chefin, which were lovingly prepared personally by Chef Fatma ❤️ This was accompanied by a fresh salad with the famous dried tomatoes from Turkey. Before the meal, we had a delicious cay. The Gözleme is served with homemade sauces, which were truly delicious. The cocktail sauce is especially great! You should definitely try the Gözleme. The kebab a la Chefin also tastes completely different from conventional kebabs; it tastes special and is enough for two people or one person if you're really hungry ;) We would love to come back and look forward to our next visit with Chef Fatma❤️

Thanks to SWR Handwerkskunst for the report on this great restaurant. Fatma Ugurlu is so warm and hospitable; there was no wait and the conversation was great. The doner sandwiches (€7.50 each) were the best we've ever had, with homemade sauces and prepared with love. The restaurant is inviting and clean. Cash, debit cards, and PayPal are accepted. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Unfortunately, the kebab has become significantly smaller (and more expensive) in recent months, making it almost impossible to fill yourself up on one. The sauces are positive, especially the spicy one, which is significantly spicier than other kebabs! Edit after a month: since the kebab shop started an online portal, the waiting times in person have become very long. If you don't want to wait more than 20 minutes, you should definitely pre-order.

Only one star, or even no star at all. We ordered food there at around 8:15 PM. The order was confirmed and paid. At 9:02 PM, we received a message that the order had been canceled. Thanks for nothing.

Very tasty, very fresh. The pasta here is made in-house, which makes the place stand out. The doner kebab alla chef is very, very tasty and comes with a super special bread that I haven't had anywhere else.

There was very little meat on the lahmacun, and the meat tasted of MSG. I don't think the almost €20 for two lahmacun is reasonable. The SWR video is playing on a continuous loop in the shop itself.

I visited the kebab shop for the second time yesterday and had a kebab in bread with red cabbage and onions. The meat, as well as the overall ratio, was absolutely delicious. You can tell that the very friendly shopkeeper is passionate about her work. She even came to our table and told us that they'll soon be serving homemade bread with the kebab, showed us the photos, chatted briefly, and then we were given a sweet and a free cup of tea. The ambiance is also beautiful; the shop is decorated with lots of love, and everything seems very clean. The sweet was truly delicious; I would definitely recommend it.

I've never been there, and I live three hours away, but based on the visual impressions on radio and television, I've decided that true beauty is being created there. I can hardly wait to taste your culinary delights.

From the homemade sauces to the friendly staff, everything was a solid 10/10. You can really tell that the quality definitely stands out from other kebab shops. The homemade bread is my personal highlight. I can only recommend it to anyone who isn't in the mood for the standard kebab with ready-made meals.

More than just kebab! The boss impresses with great attention to detail and her own ideas, so it's worth asking about the changing desserts and specialties. Everything is made with love and apart from the kebab you will find wonderful Gözleme, Dürüm, Pide, made according to grandma's recipe. Very nice ! Were here for the first time at the weekend. We were more than satisfied. The Gözleme in particular are highly recommended. You can tell that no processed ingredients are used in the preparation. Everything is prepared fresh. The owner/manager is also very nice and attentive. She puts so much heart and soul into her dishes. You can tell and taste it. Everything is also very clean. You can eat on site, there are tables and chairs. We'll be back soon!

Undisputedly the best Pide & Gözleme in the city. Here you can tell that everything is cooked with meaning and love and, above all, freshly. Red and white cabbage is homemade, something you rarely see. The meat still has some potential - it doesn't always have to be kebab ;)

We ate here for the first time today. We ordered a pizza and lahmacun including kebab meat. I just say WOW!!!! The Lahmacun tasted like it was made from scratch and the pizza was better than at some Italian restaurants. The owner is super nice and welcomed us very well. A little small talk after dinner at our table with tea was a good ending. The products here are Helal and no alcohol is offered. The decoration is very stylish and makes you feel comfortable. I'm happy to recommend it and will eat here myself more often.

Unfortunately not recommended at all. You order in advance so you don't have to wait, the food is stated as ready for pickup and when you arrive the food isn't even ready and you have to say your complete order again. This means that you have to wait another 10-15 minutes on site despite pre-ordering. Unfortunately, the food wasn't particularly tasty either, very greasy and tasted like fat. Unfortunately we had to throw everything away at home. It's a shame because "the kebab shop" isn't exactly cheap.

The kebab plate was more like a small children's kebab but had ordered a kebab plate and paid €12 to be full? Not even taste catches these people extremely bold. Well, I weigh 125 kg and 197 cm but still when I saw the box that was brought for the "doner kebab plate" I wanted to break off. You won't find smaller plates anywhere. There's a lot more to the rather inconspicuous-looking "The Döner Shop" than just kebabs and the like! Of course you can get a super tasty kebab here. But it's also worth asking about the changing Turkish specialties (e.g. the delicious manti) and sitting down in the shop. In addition, the boss is incredibly warm and worth the visit alone. Absolute insider tip!

Delicious little kebab in Mainz. I can only recommend it. Had the Gözleme with kebab meat and fries. Delicious. Only the fries could have used another 4 to 5 minutes in the deep fryer.

We have eaten at the kebab shop several times and unfortunately the results have been very mixed. Sometimes kebabs, lamacun and the like are well filled with meat and vegetables, sometimes you really have to look for the meat and the rest of the contents. Today the latter was the case again. Unfortunately, this has happened more often lately. Especially when you pre-order by phone for pickup, I have the impression that there is a lack of content. The kebab was only half full, in Lamacun you had to look for meat and sauce despite ordering extra meat and extra sauce. It was almost dry. Despite being picked up quickly, the "large fries" were flabby and the kebab box with rice was a kebab box with fries... We wondered how so much could have gone wrong in the 15 minutes between ordering and pickup. Our tip: it's best to go there instead of ordering by phone and watching, as that hasn't happened to us yet.

Unfortunately the Dürum was raw, what with the quantity, the vegetables were also quite sad. Maybe it's about electricity and output for ingredients to rafters. Never again.

I'm actually used to it differently. Unfortunately it was only noticed at home. Doner special, where you have to look for the meat. Doner extremely small. Employee not particularly motivated. It probably depends on who makes the kebab. Of course it was very warm, but you have to expect that at the workplace.

Wonderful owner couple - both very nice people - especially the lady of the house with so much heart and love, nothing more is possible! And she knows, a little cocktail sauce directly over the meat, then the other ingredients - just perfect! Especially the Dürüm, with flat cakes freshly prepared and freshly baked in the oven in front of your eyes (like Lahmacun etc. too - simply wonderful)!

We became aware of the kebab shop because of an Instagram post and wanted to form our own opinion. And lo and behold, we have been confirmed in taste, friendliness and warmth. The typical Turkish hospitality paired with handmade dishes like those from mothers convinced us. Especially the Gözleme and Lahmacun with meat and salad were really tasty! The one-star reviews are pure rubbish and completely incomprehensible. Go and test it out, then you will agree with us 😉

I wonder why we didn't go here much sooner. Went here for the first time today and was really impressed. The scent almost pulls you in, the atmosphere is cozy and the owner is really warm and friendly. We had a kebab and a kebab plate. The kebab was on point, just as you would imagine a kebab to be. No matter where you took a bite, there was always sauce, meat and salad everywhere. Really delicious 😋. When my friend asked, she got the kebab plate with fries and rice. Not only did it look delicious, but it tasted really great☺️. I think price-performance is completely okay for what you get here. We would love to come back 😌

Great, just great! We were there for the first time today and it won't be the last time. Value for money for what you get on your plate is absolutely justified. Fresh and good ingredients are used here. On top of that, the atmosphere and the staff are authentic and super nice. We met a very warm and friendly owner who even served our kebab herself.
