In diesem Laden, den ich aus dem SWR Handwerkskunst Video kenne, wird Gastfreundschaft groß geschrieben. Es geht nicht um Fastfood, sondern um Freundlichkeit, gutes Essen und gute Gespräche. Zeit nehmen und hier vorbei schauen, kann ich nur empfehlen.

Wir waren heute zu viert hier essen, nachdem wir die SWR-Handwerkskunst-Folge auf YouTube gesehen hatten. Die Anfahrt aus Ulm hat sich mehr als gelohnt. Der Döner a la Chefin war einfach fantastisch – frisch, unglaublich lecker und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Man merkt sofort, dass hier viel Wert auf Qualität und Handwerk gelegt wird. Was diesen Besuch aber wirklich besonders gemacht hat, waren die Menschen. Die Inhaberin und ihre Familie sind wahnsinnig herzlich und freundlich. Wir hatten sehr nette Gespräche und haben uns vom ersten Moment an willkommen gefühlt. Gutes Essen findet man an vielen Orten. Eine Atmosphäre, in der man sich als Gast wirklich wohlfühlt seltener. Genau das haben wir heute hier erlebt. Wir waren nicht einfach Kunden, sondern Gäste. Vielen Dank für einen rundum gelungenen Besuch. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Der dönermann war sehr nett und hat mir sogar ein Stück Fleisch gegeben ich bin nahmlich mit dem Fahrrad gekommen

Hatte noch nie einen Döner mit so wenig Fleisch. Das war schon eher vegetarisch. Bei einem Döner muss man das Fleisch rausschmecken und nicht den Salat.

Kann den Hype nicht verstehen. Der Döner war lieblos angerichtet und der Salat wirkte nicht frisch. Für den Preis auch deutlich zu teuer. Wiederholung mache ich keine

Am Wochenende habe ich mich mit einer Freundin zum Döneressen getroffen, nachdem sie Den Dönerladen aus einer Doku kannte. Aus Döner wurden stattdessen eine vegetarische Gemüsepide und Gözleme mit Käse und Spinat - beides frisch handgemacht und super lecker! Man schmeckt, wie viel Wert hier auf gutes Handwerk gelegt wird. Beraten wurden wir auch ganz lieb! Die Einrichtung ist schön und heimelig, mit bunten Tischdecken und sehr viel liebevoller Gestaltung. :) Leicht fühlt man sich hier wie Zuhause! Nachdem wir sogar unser Strickzeug ausgepackt haben, hat sich Fatma - die Inhaberin - mit zu uns gesetzt, aus ihrem Leben, von ihren eigenen Handarbeitsprojekten und dem Kochen erzählt! Statt nur ein Mittagessen wurde aus unserem Besuch ein ganzer Samstag - inklusive Tee und Nachtisch, fast wie bei Freunden. :) Sowohl Fatma wie auch ihr Mann und ihre Familie haben hier einen ganz tollen und herzlichen Ort geschaffen, den ich bereits ganz fleißig all meine Mainzer Freund:innen empfehle. Wir kommen gerne wieder!! Auch zum Stricken :)

Fleischspies war nicht an, das Fleisch war roh, die Kartoffeln mit Gemüse triefend vor Öl und Bauchschmerzen hatten wir alle nach dem Besuch.

Ich gehe sehr gerne ab und zu in der mittagspause einen döner essen. Es wird mit viel Liebe zubereitet, es schmeckt sehr frisch und gut abgestimmt, die Einrichtung, das Ambiente ist auch sehr gut gemacht und vorallem ist der Dönerladen sehr sauber

Die Portion ist ausreichend auch für grossen Hunger. Ambiente sehr nett. Preis ist ok.

Ich war gestern mal wieder hier essen und es ist immer wieder schön und lecker. Hier bekommt man einen sehr ausgewogenen Döner mit super frischem Gemüse und tollen Soßen. Das Fleisch ist angenehm saftig, nicht zu fettig, das Brot frisch gebacken und das Grillgemüse eine Herzensempfehlung, um den klassischen Döner etwas aufzupeppen. Auch die vegetarische und vegane Auswahl ist groß und macht im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Läden satt :) Vor Ort lässt es sich angenehm essen bei entspannter Atmosphäre im Ortskern von Mainz Bretzenheim. Ich komme immer wieder!

Ich bin vorbeigekommen, weil ich nach langer Zeit mal wieder Lust auf Dürüm hatte. Der Salat war frisch und lecker. An einem anderen Tag habe ich vegetarisches Dürüm bestellt, das mit warmem Wokgemüse serviert wurde. Das war auch sehr lecker! Das Restaurant ist außerdem wunderschön.

Waren heute zum ersten Mal hier, nachdem wir die SWR-Doku gesehen haben Super freundliche Mitarbeiter, konnten sogar einige Worte mit der Chefin selbst wechseln. Döner & Lahmacun waren sehr lecker! Nicht zu fettig, frische Zutaten und sehr stimmig Kommen gerne wieder!:)

Der Döner war lecker, leider etwas teuer.

Habe dort einen Dürüm gegessen und es wurde extrem am Fleisch gespart + die Soße hat wie abgelaufen geschmeckt ganz sauer. Und die Mitarbeiter haben sich als nur mit Gästen unterhalten statt uns zu bedienen. Gibt bessere Dönerläden

Zum satt werden ja aber mehr auch nicht.

Das Essen schmeckt hier sehr gut.

Heute war es nichts - Das Brot war nicht wie sonst, das Fleisch nur halb durchgebraten und nicht knusprig, statt extra Fleisch habe ich wohl extra Kraut bekommen, Pulver fehlt, generell war der Döner trocken. Bin ich eigentlich anders gewohnt vom Dönerladen. Schade.

Der Lieblingsladen. So sollte es eigentlich heißen. Döner a la Chefin ist sehr empfehlenswert. Aber auch die Gözleme und Pide sind super. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne.☺️

Nachdem ich den Beitrag beim SWR gesehen habe, wusste ich, dass ich diesen Döner probieren muss. Der "normale" Döner war schon überragend, aber der Gemüse Döner hat mich gefühlte 15 Jahre zurückgeworfen. Ich habe es geliebt, wenn meine Mutter Grillgemüse gemacht hat und dann Knoblauchjoghurt drüber gegeben hat. Genauso hat es geschmeckt. Danke!

Die beste Döner-Erfahrung in der Region. Der Döner schmeckt hervorragend, und das frische Brot wird von der Dame, die den Laden führt, selbst gebacken.

Der Döner aus diesem Laden, sieht auf dem ersten Blick schon nicht so gut aus wenn man die Qualität der verschiedenen Krautsalate Und dem Fleisch ansieht. Und ich musste leider nach dem verzehr des Döners feststellen, dass es mir sehr schlecht ging und ich anschließend Durchfall und Erbrechen hatte. Daher leider auch die nicht zufrieden stellende Bewertung.

Der Dönerteller meines Mannes kam kalt an. Mein Döner war ganz okay, das Brot und die Sauce waren richtig gut, das Fleisch hat leider nach nichts geschmeckt. Da mein Mann nicht satt geworden ist (so viel war leider wirklich nicht auf dem Teller) habe ich ihm die Hälfte von meinem Döner abgegeben. Mann war angenehm satt, ich hatte noch Hunger. In Zukunft traue ich zu guten Bewertungen nicht mehr über den Weg, schade hatte mich richtig gefreut.

I ordered a falafel and grilled vegetable platter. A total disappointment. Two-thirds of the grilled vegetables were actually fried potatoes. And all this for the exorbitant price of 15 euros. When I complained, the only response was, "That's just how it is here." That was my last visit for the foreseeable future.

"The Doner Shop" is by far one of the best doner shops around. The meat is always fresh, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The sauces are homemade and incredibly delicious, and the vegetables are crispy and fresh. I especially want to highlight the friendly service – you're always greeted with a smile and served quickly. The portions are generous, and the value for money is excellent. I'll definitely be back – highly recommended! 🌯👏

This kebab shop completely won us over 💚 The food was not only incredibly delicious and fresh, but it also left us with a truly satisfying feeling. It was light, pleasant, and totally satisfying. You can immediately tell that they work with love, passion, and high-quality ingredients. The team is super friendly, very warm, and extremely hospitable. There are some delicious vegan options, but they also spontaneously experimented and combined ingredients! It's simply impressive how much they cater to each individual guest. The kebab à la Chefin was an absolute highlight and everyone loved it. After our meal, we were immediately offered tea, which perfectly rounded off our visit. This small gesture further demonstrated how much they prioritize their guests' well-being 💚 The shop is also very clean, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the people there are simply wonderful. We all felt very comfortable and at home 🫶🏼 We will definitely be back!

Ever since we saw the SWR documentary about this kebab shop, we've been wanting to try an authentic döner à la Chefin here, and last Friday we finally made it to Mainz and got the chance. The owners are all incredibly nice and friendly! Simply warm and welcoming. We were even offered a complimentary tea right away :) The döner à la Chefin lived up to our high expectations! Delicious, everything fresh, prepared with love, and a generous portion that really fills you up. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and if we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely be back!

Very tasty doner kebab. The meat isn't your average, it's something special. The taste is excellent and the food is very clean. Our children loved it too.

Stay away from this place unless you have absolutely no idea about Turkish döner; it's by far the worst döner shop. The dürüm is dried out and not fresh, no homemade bread, everything is bland. It's not worth it and doesn't taste good. They're very unfriendly, and if you criticize anything, you should keep your distance.

Very tasty dishes and pleasant ambience

After reading a newspaper article about the kebab shop, it was at the top of my list for my annual vacation in Wiesbaden/Mainz – and I wasn't disappointed. I had the kebab a la Chefin, which at €13 seems expensive at first, but the quantity is definitely worth the price. Furthermore, the quality is top-notch: - The salads are fresh and evenly distributed on the kebab – I'd just like to add a bit of parsley and lemon. - The meat is juicy and flavorful. - The sauces are homemade and equally delicious. The highlight, however, is the owner's homemade bread. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and simply delicious. The owner also personally brought me a free cup of tea to go with my meal. The trip was worth it.

I had the doner kebab Ala Chefin – and it was by far the best doner I've ever eaten! The bread is absolutely unique, the spicy sauce delivers what it promises, the salad is wonderfully fresh, and the meat is made from pure, tender layered meat – no minced meat, no compromises. The service is also impressive: attentive, warm, and always friendly. I'll definitely be back! 😊

Freshly prepared and very tasty

We were drawn to the idea by the SWR report and made a special detour from Oberstdorf back to Cologne. Unfortunately, we weren't greeted, nor were we able to try the doner kebab a la chefin, as they apparently lacked the ingredients. We weren't offered any alternatives. Instead, there was just silence... what a shame... We'll see if we try it again.

October 11, 2025. 12:10 p.m. Save yourself the trip. Drove by specifically because of the TV report. A disinterested man behind the counter who didn't even say hello. My husband came shortly after, and there was no response to his hello either. There was only one customer with two children in the place. Perhaps gay-unfriendly, although it was stated otherwise. Where were the leading women! There was no gözleme because it hadn't been delivered or something similar. The mumbling was inaudible. We left.

Not your average kebab, really good kebab, there's a lot of junk in Mainz but this shop isn't one of them ☺️👍🏻

Best kebab and gozleme I've ever eaten and the lovely owners and staff.

Super delicious food, incredibly friendly service, which deserves every star. It's a really comfortable place to sit and enjoy the relaxing music. It was a great way to unwind after a long day. For me from Dresden, the cocktail sauce was something completely new, and we were also able to try it beforehand. Much continued success to the wonderful team, and best wishes from the East. 🧡

We're visiting Mainz, and I was looking for nearby food on the menu, and the name immediately caught my eye. I just walked by one day and was impressed by the outside. Today, I felt like having a kebab. The staff are cheerful and very friendly. They specifically ask what sauces and vegetables they want in them. It was very quick. The kebabs are well-filled and filling. It was very tasty; it's almost a shame we're from Dresden and can't eat here more often.

We discovered this kebab shop through the SWR documentary "Handicrafts." We drove from Ludwigsburg to Mainz and were not disappointed. The owner is super nice, even nicer and more personable than on TV. We had a kebab plate, a traditional kebab called "Gözleme ala Chefin," and a vegetarian dürüm. Everything was fresh, delicious, and made with a lot of passion. We'll try the traditional kebab next time.

The online order, which took over 45 minutes, was missing parts. The difference was not refunded.

This was our second time here and we were able to try the kebab a la chefin today. It was truly delicious. The bread, in particular, was very good and flavorful. The long dough resting time makes it very digestible. You can really taste the passion that goes into it. The service, however, is particularly noteworthy. The shop is not only lovingly designed, it is also lovingly run. Please keep it up—you're doing a great job!

We, too, discovered the kebab shop through the SWR Handwerkskunst series, and the 60-km drive was definitely worth it. Fatma is the epitome of gracious hospitality, the kebab à la Chefin, with just the right amount of spice, is the best kebab ever, and the vegetable dürüm is the perfect meat-free alternative. If the show hadn't already given us our favorites, choosing from the 70 dishes on offer wouldn't have been easy.

100% recommendation! I visited there on August 25, 2025. After I inquired by phone beforehand, I was told that I could of course bring my dog. Due to the two kebab grills, the temperature inside was high, and the attentive owner immediately brought me a chair and table outside so that my dog ​​and owner could sit outside. The food was very good and the value for money is excellent. I fully agree with the positive reviews. I wish there were a kebab shop like this near my hometown. When I'm in the Bretzenheim area again, I will definitely come back.

I first discovered the kebab shop about a year ago through the SWR Landesschau Baden-Württemberg program. Today, I drove 178 km on my scooter to sample the kebab meat on display. After eating a delicious kebab plate, I revealed myself as a kebab tourist and was immediately offered a cup of tea. Then Fatma came into the shop. I was greeted warmly with shining eyes. She told me she had relatives in Pforzheim and knew about the long journey. I wasn't allowed to leave the shop without a gözleme prepared by the owner—in the owner's own style, of course. Mashala!! All I can say is, very well cooked, dear Fatma. When I got home, I heated the flatbread in the oven at 200°C for 10 minutes and ate it straight away. It tasted wonderful, and if I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely stop by. I'll try the vegetable version and the falafel. I'm already looking forward to it.

I ordered a normal kebab from this shop. At first glance it didn't look particularly good in terms of the quality of the various coleslaws and the meat. And unfortunately, after eating the kebab I realized that I felt very, very sick and subsequently had diarrhea and vomiting.

Great service, and the donner is different from the regular street food. It's worth a visit.

Hand on heart, by far the best kebab shop in Mainz

We discovered the kebab shop through the SWR YouTube documentary and drove from Frankfurt to Mainz to try the kebab. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and immediately felt at home. We ordered a kebab a la Chefin and a Gözleme a la Chefin, which were lovingly prepared personally by Chef Fatma ❤️ This was accompanied by a fresh salad with the famous dried tomatoes from Turkey. Before the meal, we had a delicious cay. The Gözleme is served with homemade sauces, which were truly delicious. The cocktail sauce is especially great! You should definitely try the Gözleme. The kebab a la Chefin also tastes completely different from conventional kebabs; it tastes special and is enough for two people or one person if you're really hungry ;) We would love to come back and look forward to our next visit with Chef Fatma❤️

Thanks to SWR Handwerkskunst for the report on this great restaurant. Fatma Ugurlu is so warm and hospitable; there was no wait and the conversation was great. The doner sandwiches (€7.50 each) were the best we've ever had, with homemade sauces and prepared with love. The restaurant is inviting and clean. Cash, debit cards, and PayPal are accepted. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Unfortunately, the kebab has become significantly smaller (and more expensive) in recent months, making it almost impossible to fill yourself up on one. The sauces are positive, especially the spicy one, which is significantly spicier than other kebabs! Edit after a month: since the kebab shop started an online portal, the waiting times in person have become very long. If you don't want to wait more than 20 minutes, you should definitely pre-order.

Very good, top-quality food! I had the grilled vegetables and falafel plate with garlic and chili sauce and loved it. The manager was also very accommodating. I definitely recommend it.

I discovered the shop through SWR Handwerkskunst, and the food is as delicious as it looks, and the staff is as friendly as they seem in the report. The manager is super approachable and even offered us some of her homemade tea at the end. It won't be the last time I'm there!

Only one star, or even no star at all. We ordered food there at around 8:15 PM. The order was confirmed and paid. At 9:02 PM, we received a message that the order had been canceled. Thanks for nothing.

Very tasty, very fresh. The pasta here is made in-house, which makes the place stand out. The doner kebab alla chef is very, very tasty and comes with a super special bread that I haven't had anywhere else.

There was very little meat on the lahmacun, and the meat tasted of MSG. I don't think the almost €20 for two lahmacun is reasonable. The SWR video is playing on a continuous loop in the shop itself.

I visited the kebab shop for the second time yesterday and had a kebab in bread with red cabbage and onions. The meat, as well as the overall ratio, was absolutely delicious. You can tell that the very friendly shopkeeper is passionate about her work. She even came to our table and told us that they'll soon be serving homemade bread with the kebab, showed us the photos, chatted briefly, and then we were given a sweet and a free cup of tea. The ambiance is also beautiful; the shop is decorated with lots of love, and everything seems very clean. The sweet was truly delicious; I would definitely recommend it.

I've never been there, and I live three hours away, but based on the visual impressions on radio and television, I've decided that true beauty is being created there. I can hardly wait to taste your culinary delights.

From the homemade sauces to the friendly staff, everything was a solid 10/10. You can really tell that the quality definitely stands out from other kebab shops. The homemade bread is my personal highlight. I can only recommend it to anyone who isn't in the mood for the standard kebab with ready-made meals.

New special kebab coming soon! I ate a kebab today that isn't on the menu yet – a special kebab, really awesome! 💥 The meat was juicy, the sauce was great, and the bread was nice and warm and crispy. I've never eaten anything like it before; it was really special! The boss said it'll be a permanent fixture on the menu soon. I'm telling you right now: You'll love it! 😍 Come by soon, it's going to be a game changer.
