I had a takeaway dish from the traditional menu, and I have to say, it blew my socks off! I'll definitely try the traditional menu again; I highly recommend this place!

Very authentic Chinese, with excellent food, worth a detour (out of the way location, but shabby-romantic). Interior and service simple - but that's just another sign that this is about the food and not unnecessary Europeanized bells and whistles. The bad reviews are completely incomprehensible and show absolutely misguided expectations. Absolutely recommend the original specialties. Will come back and bring friends.

Being close to the water is really cool, but the food isn't anything special

The interior has been changed and renewed for several months. We think it's good that there are two different menus. One - let's say Germanized - and one traditional Chinese card. Some dishes are only available in this restaurant in Hamburg and are therefore very special. I sometimes find some dishes very overpriced. In my opinion, the location of the restaurant is not really justified. On some days, especially on Fridays and weekends, reservations must be made by telephone. A small negative point is that card payments are not possible.

Super tasty, super clean, nice selection of dishes, great lunch specials. You can also sit outside by the water here. The road is annoying at peak times but otherwise really wonderful. In our opinion an insider tip in Hamburg.

Today's lunch: rice with duck, vegetables, and peanut sauce... The "vegetables" consisted of two small broccoli and onions. The duck, unfortunately, wasn't grilled crisply; the skin was rather sloppy! I missed the typical peanut sauce flavor in the peanut sauce! The Coke in the glass tasted stale. The entire meal, including the free starter soup and the Coke, unfortunately didn't taste good at all 😐😑☹️! And that's a shame. The waitress was attentive, and the location with the quiet seating right by the canal is really nice! But of course, when you go out to eat, the food is the most important thing. And unfortunately, it was bad. I won't be back.

Delicious, authentic food that impresses every time. If you can, you can eat spicy here and not every spiciness is the same, there are many nuances.

It’s fine for Chinese guys can eat the Hunan spicy food, and the parking is some easy(close to the restaurant,18:00PM starts, free paring). You can also tell the chef/owner that you need adjust the spicy degree. The slightly spicy is recommended.

Unfortunately disappointing. I made a reservation in advance, but we still got one of the most unattractive tables even though there were others available. The owners' private belongings were lying on the table and unfortunately there was a very strong smell of Dixi toilets wafting over to us several times. The food was average at best for a Chinese restaurant, we ordered two different duck dishes and received the same sauce with both items, which tasted very watered down. At €60 for two main courses, two small starter soups and two drinks, it's also rather higher priced. Unfortunately we won't be coming back...

Authentic Cantonese cuisine. Two cards; one for Chinese and one for Europeans. The former is much sharper. However, only cash payment. Update because the first review is eight years old: It's still a good restaurant. It's also a good sign if Chinese and Europeans alike eat here.

Since the renovation, the plates and portions have been smaller. Although Chinese people often seem to enjoy eating there, I have to say that the quality has deteriorated significantly. We've often enjoyed going there, but after the last few disappointments and now the worst duck (dark, greasy, with hardened yellow bacon) we've ever eaten!!! Disgusting! My girlfriend never wants to eat there again. Sad

The real Chinese food from the China menu is 1000x better than the German Chinese dishes

I worked in China for 6 months and learned to love the country and the food. I don't know of any better Chinese restaurant in Germany that offers such authentic food. Xie Xie!

The restaurant looks inconspicuous from the outside. Inside it is also quite simply furnished. But that doesn't matter. Because the food is really good. There is a Chinese and a European map. I can only recommend everyone to try the Chinese menu (warning: some things are really spicy). The cucumber salad is also highly recommended. Just try it out.

I ordered through Wolt and was actually very happy to find authentic Chinese food in Szechuan style and not this run-of-the-mill Asian food. Well the food arrived over 25 minutes later than stated and completely spilled! I don't know if it was the driver's fault or the restaurant's fault for the packaging, which is a real shame because I wanted to give the restaurant a chance, but half of the food was spread out in the bag...which is very unappetizing! At least I got a refund from Wolt. The rest that I saved was at least okay in terms of taste, hence the 2 stars. Otherwise, order again: NO THANK YOU! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Food was good! I feel the place has been there a long time, and be careful when you come out of the toilets as there is a step which is easily missed, and you can fall over it.. Seem to be a few heavy discussions going on with some customers and staff.. not really sure how or why.. but certainly felt a little for the customers.. Anyway...

Since the Corona period, prices have risen while quality has unfortunately declined. The lunch menu offers acceptable value for money, but overall is not recommended. Many of the baked dishes, such as spring rolls, are obviously frozen. Service: depending on whether the waiter is annoyed, it can be good or bad Ambience: nothing to complain about. It was our first time at this Chinese restaurant and we loved the food. It actually tasted like China. We had gungbao chicken and eggplant with mince. I don't know of any other Chinese in Hamburg who serves such authentic food. The ambience has more of a snack bar charm, but people who have already been to China find it authentic.

Having lived in Asia for a decade, I am always happy to come here to eat proper Chinese food. The place itself is not super welcoming and stylish. However, that even makes it better as it reminds me of the normal restaurants in Shanghai. The staff is very friendly and happy if you speak Chinese ~~

Top Chinese, although it doesn't have Dim Sum, it does have many dishes that are not Europeanized, but authentic. Real Hunan cuisine. The large soups are great and really tasty. And where it says sharp, it means sharp. Had a wonton soup ahead of time, and beef with peppers and black beans on a hot cast iron plate. Great level of spiciness and great taste, I couldn't have had it better. The Chinese card is great, the other one is a clear recommendation!!! Renovations have been made here!

Very good typical Chinese restaurant. Original Chinese cuisine. Also very tasty and everything is geared towards typical Chinese “food sharing”. I can definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone who likes real Chinese flair.

It is unfortunate to see that prices are constantly rising while portions are becoming smaller. The price-performance ratio is absolutely no longer right. I ordered there weekly for years, but with the current prices of 17-21 euros per dish for take-out orders and the additional restriction of only being able to pay in cash, I'm unfortunately no longer there.

One dish was very good (baked chicken) and the other (chicken curry) was unfortunately below average. The service was good, but card payment was not possible and the food was quite expensive. You can sit outside very close to a busy street, but also by the water. So there were positive and negative reports in all categories, so overall it was a mediocre experience. Value for money is actually only worth 2 stars.

Small, inconspicuous restaurant on the Fleet with incredible food. The sauces are incredibly good and are easy on the stomach, the duck meat is very tender and juicy, not dry as if it were fried. Great service and it's especially nice on the water when the weather is good! Warmest recommendation to everyone to come here!

Terrible. Food tastes like nothing. Baked Chicken was fried twice. The meat was just dry and the crust on the outside was rock hard! M8 not recommended Beef with rice and chicken chop seuy was just cruel. Everything ended up in the trash...never again. In my opinion, the photos on Google are 1,000,000 km away from what actually ended up on our plate!!!@

It was really bad. The food was not good and the oil was not clean. I had diarrhea after eating it. And it’s ridiculously expensive. I don’t know how to set the price. You can’t pay such a high price for a meal in the city center. I won’t come again.

Been coming for years, best Chinese food in the world (the dishes on the first two pages are the best)

We recently visited the restaurant "Der Chinese Am Fleet" for the second time and were once again very pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the dishes. We ordered Szechuan-style braised lamb neck and it was simply amazing! The meat was tender and juicy, and the sauce had a rich and balanced flavor with the right amount of spice. We also tried other dishes, like the pork belly, and everything was cooked to the highest standard. The vegetables were fresh and well cooked which added to the overall experience of the meal. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, a great little terrace and friendly staff. The service was quick and attentive. I recommend this restaurant to all lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine. We will come back in any case!

OK, but I give it only 2 stars because of the dish "Pecking Duck" we got. This dish was not right!

I was there for lunch today. The soup as a starter was still okay. The fried noodles, on the other hand, were covered in a broth made from oil and flavor enhancers. The chicken meat was jelly-like, as if a thick chicken skin had been briefly fried. I've never had such bad Chinese food before. Disgusting. After four forks it was over. I absolutely cannot understand the positive reviews.

Very tasty Chinese food. Here you can also get dishes that you won't find in any other Chinese restaurant, such as ribs etc. The boss is very friendly and accommodating. The ambience is very nice and you have a view of the Fleet.

Der "Chinese am Fleet" ist das beste chinesische Restaurant, das ich (außerhalb Chinas) kenne - die Speisen sind tatsächlich chinesisch (was i.d.R. in Europa nicht der Fall ist). Man muss freilich, um das genießen zu können, die ersten zwei Seiten der Speisekarte für eine Bestellung nutzen - dort findet man authentische, grandiose Kochkunst!! Wir sind seit über 8 Jahren Stammgäste in dem Restaurant und wurden noch nie (!) enttäuscht. Der Inhaber bedient selber (und ist auch gelernter Koch, kann also über seine Küchenmannschaft kompetente "Dienstaufsicht" führen - was er auch tut, man merkt es), von seiner Frau allgelentlich unterstützt. Das Restaurant hat eine Außenfläche mit Blick auf einen Fleet - im Sommer ein paradiesischer Flecken in HH. Wir hoffen, dass uns dieser Ort ein lebenslanger Begleiter bleiben wird. Dr. Ralf Bambach

Very disappointed. We ordered by phone and took the order by ourselves. Instead of noodles with shrimps, we got rice with shrimps. Second, the taste of rice was less than ordinary. The spring rolls were... anyway, that was my first and last time.

Very good food and exceptional dishes. The quality of service varies and you need luck to get a good day. The ambience isn't necessarily the most pleasant either, but it has the classic "old Chinese restaurant" charm. The prices are also a bit too high in my opinion.

I can't begin to understand the good reviews for this restaurant. From the outside it looks like a barracks, but we knew that beforehand. I have rarely experienced such bad service. Not once did we hear anyone ask how it tasted, either during the meal or afterwards. The dirty dishes were left on the table for 15 minutes. Only because we asked for the bill was it finally cleared away. The amount was just thrown around at the table and we only received the receipt upon request (save taxes if possible...?) You can't pay by card, which is actually a no-go these days. The food was run of the mill, nothing special. You could literally see the sauce thickener. The dish (chicken with vegetables) was soggy and overly salty. We will definitely not go here again. If you really want to eat really good Chinese, you should go to HH-Niendorf and visit the “Han Yang” restaurant. THIS is excellent food and great service, no comparison at all with this place.

The Chinese am Fleet is located in Hamburg-Hamm Süd and looks very inconspicuous from the outside. The dining room itself is also rather simply furnished, but the food there is excellent.

Das Essen war ziemlich gut, allerdings erscheint das Preisniveau für die einfache Imbiss-Atmosphäre dieses Restaurants ein wenig zu hoch. Zudem habe ich eine Maus gesichtet, was in der Nähe von Gewässern wohl schwer zu verhindern ist. Vollkommen inakzeptabel finde ich jedoch, dass im Jahr 2024 Kartenzahlungen dort nicht möglich sind. Bei einem Essen mit einem Geschäftspartner stand ich unangenehm da, da ich mangels Akzeptanz meiner Kreditkarte das Geld von ihm leihen musste. Es wirft die Frage auf, warum der Besitzer Kartenzahlungen so strikt ablehnt. Könnte es sein, dass hier finanzielle Unregelmäßigkeiten im Spiel sind?

Das ist ein sehr gutes chinesisches Restaurant. Ich lebte 15 Jahre in China und habe heute mal wieder fast so wie in China essen dürfen. Kann ich nur empfehlen. Essen ist top! Service Spitze. Wir kommen bald wieder!

Der beste Chinese in der ganzen Umgebung!

Das Restaurant liegt am Ufer eines Flusses. In warmen Sommer kann man draussen essen, sehr schön. Die Preise sind günstig, der Geschmack ist original chinesisch. Dort kommen viele Chinesen. Ich kann empfehlen

Authentic chinese (maybe from Sichuan province) food. They have many numb-spicy food, suitable for spicy lover. We had ordered also pork intestines (which is not in the menu), but it taste too salty for us. But overall the dishes are very delicious and have strong flavour.

Die Ente außer Haus war leider enttäuschend. Wenig Soße, kaum Gemüse, wenig gutes Fleisch. Für den Preis, auch wenn es Mittagstisch war, nicht in Ordnung. Auch die Nudeln sind eher eine Kinderportion.

Wir waren am 03.10.23 hier und waren begeistert. Insbesondere das Essen war hervorragend. Wir waren schon öfter chinesisch Essen, aber geschmacklich war das hier ganz klar in den Top 3, einfach super. Relativ kleines unscheinbares Restaurant (deswegen sollte man vorab reservieren), freundliche und aufmerksame Bedienung. Definitiv einen Besuch wert. Auch weil die Preise völlig in Ordnung sind.

Meine Navi hatte mir die Distanz grösser angezeigt. Ich war glücklich, diese Lokal gefunden zu haben. Während ich auf mein Essen wartete, berichtete mir eine Kundin wie toll das Essen hier sei. Ganz so toll fand ich es nicht. Aber dort am Fleet zu sitzen kann ich.mir toll vorstellen

Ich kann mich anderen nur anschließen, das Essen ist MEGA lecker, Service ist TOP chienesische Schüchternheit halt, aber alles OK. Ambiente, Daum hoch, im Aussenbereich mit Blick auf den Fleet, sehr angenehm, denkt man sich die Straße weg, super. Alles zusammen, wir gehen wieder hin, kleines aber gutes Restaurant.
