The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and courteous. Unfortunately, we had to wait about an hour for two burgers and fries, which seemed a bit long. Overall, though, it was okay.

We ate there twice during our vacation, once with friends. The staff were a bit apathetic, the food was tasty, and the price/performance ratio was okay. However, the €0.50 charge for mayo or ketchup is more appropriate for a snack bar and should perhaps be reconsidered. The atmosphere was very nice.

The food here is excellent. We've been there twice now, and the food was perfect, both in taste and appearance. The schnitzel was so crispy and especially breaded, not the run-of-the-mill kind you'd expect. The service was also excellent, super friendly, and they even checked on their guests to see if they had any requests. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you for that.

An absolute highlight. Easily the best burger I’ve had in Germany, and one of the best anywhere. We visited Deichkiste on a quiet evening and were welcomed into a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and the whole place had a calm, inviting feel. I went for the Deichkistenburger, and it was nothing short of phenomenal. Juicy, perfectly cooked beef, balanced by the sweetness of onion marmalade and the crunch of praline-nut bacon, all held together in a soft, fresh bun. The fries were crisp and golden, exactly as they should be. I honestly think I would drive from Denmark just to have this burger again. My wife chose the salad with crispy chicken, and it arrived as a colourful, generous plate, brimming with freshness. The chicken pieces were hot and crunchy, pairing beautifully with the cool vegetables and dressing. It wasn’t just “a salad” – it was a real dish in its own right. Between the food, the service, and the setting, this meal turned into one of those evenings you don’t forget. Deichkiste is a true gem on the German coast. Highly recommended for anyone who loves good food served with care.

We ate there for lunch on Sunday. The schnitzel and the sauerfleisch were simply fantastic. Large portions, everything homemade. We'll be back.

After pointing out that the main course we ordered contained a fermented ingredient, we were more or less thrown out. Never, ever.

Very delicious food, freshly prepared and attractively presented. The portions are just right, quite generous, and the taste is truly outstanding. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive; you immediately felt welcome and comfortable. The ambiance outside was cozy and tidy, and the absolute highlight for the kids was the small on-site playground. Highly recommended!

We visited twice within a week with four adults and three children. Our visit with kids was totally relaxing, as there's a lovely play area for children in the corner of the restaurant. The food is excellent, as is the "classic Nordic, friendly, and cheeky" service :-). We felt very comfortable each time and would love to come back! Reservations recommended!

My wife and I spontaneously stopped here after a beautiful hike. The welcome was very warm, and we sat down at a lovely table outside. The drinks were served quickly, and we didn't have to wait long for our two meals either. Both the goat cheese and the burger were delicious. In summary: great location, very friendly staff, excellent food, and good value for money. What more could I want? Next time I'm in California, I'll stop here again 😊

The restaurant has a great ambiance both inside and outside (on the terrace). The service is very attentive, competent, and friendly. The food is a feast for the eyes, tastes great, and the prices are reasonable.

I ate here today with a good friend, and it was truly wonderful. However, we had to watch two of the employees frequently get very close to each other. Not a very pleasant scene while eating!

A wonderful little restaurant right on the dike with delicious food and exceptionally good service. The ingredients are fresh and regional, and the outdoor seating is wonderfully peaceful.

We had a fantastic meal here with a large group! The atmosphere was cozy and, despite being relatively busy, not too loud. I can only assume that it was the chef himself, who served us very charmingly together with a member of staff. Despite the somewhat upscale, very high-quality cuisine, I really liked the chic yet overall casual, family-friendly atmosphere. My fish soup was excellent. My burger was a little overcooked, even though I ordered it medium. But that would be complaining at a high level. The rum steak was perfect. Unfortunately, there was simply no room for dessert. Next time. We would love to come back!

We were truly delighted! We ordered turbot, burgers, schnitzel, delicious fries, fried potatoes, and salad, and every single dish was a delight. The turbot was a real highlight: wonderfully tender, perfectly seasoned, and simply delicious. Even the fries were exceptionally good, crispy, flavorful, and significantly better than anywhere else. The fresh salad and fried potatoes were also perfectly prepared. Added to that, the super friendly and attentive staff made the visit a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The ambiance was also very nice, cozy, inviting, and with great attention to detail. And the location is ideal: just a short walk from the beach. We felt very comfortable!

The staff were typically North German, cheerful. They were very pleasant and funny. The food and drinks were delicious! We'd gladly return.

Very good food, plentiful and tasty. The quality was outstanding and far surpassed that of most restaurants. I had the Deichplatte (deich plate), and the chef knows his craft. Friendly staff and a fitting atmosphere. I'd go back anytime.

We've been going to California for years now and always look forward to the Deichkiste. No overly elaborate menu, friendly and attentive staff, and excellent food. It's not the cheapest, but the prices and service are right. We look forward to every visit. Oh, and don't forget, dogs are welcome.

I've eaten there three times, and the food and service have always been good. I wasn't so impressed last time. The waiter served us in short, baggy jeans, which unfortunately wasn't very presentable and didn't match the ambiance or the quality of the restaurant at all. My cucumber salad wasn't particularly tasty either; it was watery and bland, and it really needed to be tested in the kitchen before serving, as it's been sitting for several days and the cucumbers have lost their water. The cod was too salty, and the sauce was too light in relation to the fish-to-potato ratio... a real shame...

Super friendly and nice, the food is a bit on the expensive side, but it's also really delicious. The portions are very generous. Again, really great.

Simply amazing! We stayed at the beach hotel and it was simply fantastic!

As local residents (last visit with five people), we've been to this restaurant several times and were very satisfied with the food. We usually order the sauerfleisch (pork meat) and herring platter with fried potatoes, which is delicious and attractively presented. And, since we're not big eaters or particularly hungry, you can order senior-friendly portions so nothing ends up in the trash. Advance reservations are recommended, of course. The service was also very prompt and friendly.

Good restaurant, especially fish

Unfortunately it was a total failure. We had to sit outside with 2 children, which was okay at first and somewhat understandable because of the other older guests, but then we were kept waiting for a really long time. When we ordered we said that we would like to eat take-away as it was already quite cold and we could only eat outside, so it took a whole hour for the food to arrive. Unfortunately the food was really bad for the price and very small portions. Unfortunately not worth another visit.

I can't recommend this shop because portions are much too small for the prices, my burger bread wasn't even toasted, the meat was cold, the fries portions were too small even for children, the schnitzel was burnt, we had to wait outside in the cold for the food, which then took 45 minutes, absolutely disappointing.

After a nice walk with the family, we were attracted by the exterior appearance of the restaurant and thought it could be a nice place for a meal. But unfortunately our visit turned out to be a disappointment. First of all, the waiters told us that there were no more free tables, although there were obviously still many free tables. That was incomprehensible, especially since we were traveling with children. It was also quite windy and cold so we decided to take our meal with us. But here too it became really ridiculous: we were asked to pay an extra charge of 1 euro per package, which was simply outrageous given the simple dishes such as the burnt schnitzels for over 20 euros and the cheapest fries and there wasn't even a simple bag and we were allowed to carry the stacked boxes 🫣 Hot water was saved in the toilets, which reinforced the impression that every corner was being saved here, while the aim was to sell yourself with a high-class ambience. All in all a disappointing visit and any simple food stall could do better...

Ate a good burger with beef. Very good bun. Not mass-produced. Price wise okay. Flambée good quality. I can recommend.

We were on holiday in the area for a few days. We visited the Deichkiste several times. For coffee at lunchtime - cappuccino and cake are great, but the ice cream is the crowning glory! Really fresh ice cream, top taste! Dinner with 6 adults, 2 children - consideration for the little ones, all dishes served hot at the same time (when the house is full). The selection is large enough for everyone to find something, but the menu is not overloaded. Service - All employees have a smile on their faces, are courteous and genuinely friendly. A small exception was made for ice cream. We tried other restaurants in the area, but none of them stuck in our minds. When I tell friends about my vacation, I will include a recommendation for the Deichkiste and wanted to do the same here. Really worth recommending! (And I don't write reviews often)

The taste was really good and the service staff was very friendly. All in all we were thrilled. The only drawback - the prices. I understand all the price increases and fully accept that quality and good staff have their price. However, I think the prices are 2-3€ too high compared to the competition in the same area. Therefore one point deducted.

The food is highly recommended! Everything is freshly prepared. And you should definitely follow the dessert recommendation. We had chocolate mousse.

2023 the sour meat, homemade and the roast beef is recommended. Very tasty and fine cuisine with enough selection. Fast waiters and quite cozy. The food was very tasty and beautifully prepared, please keep it up. April 24 The fried potatoes are awesome, everyone should eat the ones with sour meat in the dike box, please leave it all like that! The right address in 2025 too.

Visually it is a beautiful restaurant. Our meal: Matjes with apple-cream sauce and fried potatoes. Unfortunately they weren't fried potatoes, but fried potato cakes with small. Onions. No thin potato slices fried in clarified butter with bacon and onions. Chicken burger with fries: A chicken fillet breaded, but cooked again in the deep fryer. Price performance is simply not right. Maybe it's a little suggestion to improve this.

Excellent service, the food is a culinary delight. This was the third time we've eaten here this season and we're thrilled. The enjoyment begins when you make your reservation, where you are warmly welcomed and any special requests regarding the dog are taken into account. Whether it's the friendly gentleman in the garden who is raking the sand and helping us find the right place for our dog trailer. The waitress, who is not bothered by the spreading dog and lovingly avoids him. The cherry on top is the food, totally my taste! Thank you for being there for us, for pampering us so wonderfully and for making the little break from everyday life a success.

It was better before Corona, but maybe they'll get things back on track. But still good for a sundowner. If the menu gets better/more creative again, I'd be happy to go back for a long evening. The dike list is still high up in the provost.

Convinience beautifully draped at absolutely overpriced prices. Plus the worst and rudest staff I've ever encountered. Sorry, at prices like these I expect a reasonable tone. At most, the owner's heels are upscale here, but that's about it.

We really enjoy eating in the Deichkiste. One of the few restaurants in our region that we can really recommend. The staff is very friendly and you feel comfortable. When the weather is good, the garden is also very beautiful.

Ordered drinks and food, unfortunately only drinks came after an hour of waiting, unfortunately no food

Waiters walk around at the entrance, no one asks you if they can help you. The barman organized a seat for us and brought the menu. Then nothing, while we were waiting for someone to take our order, the table opposite was waiting for the bill. We then left empty-handed. 20 minute wait for very expensive food? Maybe the table opposite is still waiting for the bill 😂

Food was very good, but could have been more according to my taste. BUT THE SERVICE WAS REALLY BAD!! After we got a seat with a prior reservation, it took over half an hour until we were finally allowed to order. Then the drinks came quickly and the starter was brought after 15 minutes (that's okay). That was it. It took another hour before the main meal was brought... a total of over 1.5 hours. During that time, not once did a waitress come by to clear the empty appetizer plate or to ask if you wanted something more to drink. When the food was finally brought and all the drinks were long gone, I was unfortunately too slow to order something new to drink at the same moment. So my chance was probably wasted. Not a single service person noticed that there was a shortage of drinks for all 4 people. After a total of over 2 hours and although I tried almost embarrassingly to call a waitress over the entire time, we were not served and were left "dry" until the end. In summary, unfortunately, the worst service I have experienced in years. Too bad. By the way, I'm not just writing this, I also described it to the wait staff when paying. An apology was made for this. Unfortunately, it's a real shame. I was hoping for more.

Of course, like everywhere else, the service is stressful here, but as a guest there wasn't even a feeling of being overwhelmed - unlike the evening before last in the other restaurant. Family-friendly restaurant with extremely courteous service. The homemade burger with fries and the Holsteiner schnitzel with fried potatoes left nothing to be desired. Really delicious. We now like to come by regularly.

I ate there several times during my 4 week rehab stay. Even as a single person and at rush hour, I had no problem getting a nice place, good food and very friendly service, which is not self-evident in some corners. Definitely a clear recommendation, strawberry punch is very tasty. You can also easily get a delicious roll with schnitzel, chicken or fish there for a visit to the beach.

Very tasty food in a great atmosphere. Staff courteous and professional.

Outside you can sit attractively on bar stools at the glass table. But the pizza from the menu is frozen and has to be put in the microwave first, but then it looks very appetizing. You order drinks outside at the snack bar and - if you're lucky - they'll be brought from inside in the quantity you ordered and paid for.

Very friendly, competent service staff. :-) We were there for the third time and the food was always excellent, everything was fresh and partly prepared with regional products from the neighborhood (Biohof Muhs). We would be happy to come back and recommend the spaghetti with chanterelles and rocket as well as the perfectly medium fried Deichburger!

I had the spaghetti with chanterelle-truffle sauce and really loved it. Very well seasoned with some rocket and fresh tomatoes, I finished the plate even though it was a really big portion. The service was nice and attentive. I was lucky to get a table. Reservation is better. Especially when the weather is right and you want to sit outside

We asked in advance whether it would be possible to pre-order by phone and then pick up the food. This was confirmed to us and so we took advantage of it. The order was customized according to our wishes. The portions were perfect and the taste was simply delicious. We give it a clear recommendation and high praise for the cuisine and service.

A year ago we supposedly had a bad day when we were very disappointed by the restaurant's service (for example, cutlery was carelessly placed on the table and the service was completely lacking in friendliness). Trying again this year: when the outside area was full, we were given a table inside with the advice that we should be a little patient when it came to the food. We were blatantly ignored for over thirty minutes, with not even a drink order being taken, while a guest at the next table complained that he had been waiting far too long for his drink. The fact that a fully occupied restaurant of this size is served by only two waiters can only lead to poor service. If there are no more staff available, you may want to think about reducing the number of guests. However, if unfriendliness is added to the existing conditions, you are by no means doing justice to the standard of hospitality that you want to create through the website. We left the location and went to the "Filou" on Schönberger Strand, where they understood what service meant.

It wasn't very crowded and I wished someone would come and ask if everything was okay or ask for another drink. That's why I can't give the service more stars. All other categories 5*****

Both fish and meat were a poem. Fried to perfection, beautifully presented and the salad simply tastes exciting. There was also a very friendly boss of the house who served us. And to the delight of the holiday budget, the price was very good and reasonable

After half an hour we still hadn't been served. We got the card ourselves, even though there were only 5 guests in the garden area. At a price of 22 euros per burger, without a lake view, in the backyard, that's not possible.

Great restaurant. I ate there several days in a row during my vacation. The dishes tasted excellent every day. Very nicely prepared. Crispy fried potatoes that aren't swimming in fat. Restaurant is modernly equipped, friendly atmosphere. There are also plenty of seats in the garden. Very good service. Friendly and everything was served quickly. It is advisable to reserve a table as the restaurant is very busy. Price-performance ratio fits.

We spontaneously found it and sat outside here in the best sunshine. All the dishes were excellent and the homemade nuggets were a highlight. The vegetarian burger with goat cheese was also great. Maybe use a higher quality roll. The wait was a bit long but it was worth it.

The service staff is always friendly and stays there even when the restaurant is full. There is also always a smile for the children for whom there is a great play area. As a local, you tend to become a repeat offender 🙂

We were only there for breakfast and unfortunately it was a bit monotonous. The rolls were good and, if requested, the fried eggs. All other meals were too expensive for us.

I only had a drink, so I can't rate the food. The prices are rather high. The service staff was attentive, very friendly and explained to me that adjustments to dishes in the event of intolerances etc. were always possible and that you just had to ask. For example, oat milk can be ordered as a milk substitute. I drank my coffee black, but it was really VERY tasty! A small point of criticism is the music, which was a bit loud (which may have been because I was sitting at the last table and therefore close to the jukebox).
