Deichgraf Restaurant in Hamburg

Wir wollten im Deichgraf nur kurz einkehren, um vor unserer Zugreise ein Bier zu trinken und vielleicht eine Kleinigkeit zu essen. Doch was uns dort erwartete, war schlichtweg schockierend. Eine äußerst unfreundliche, rothaarige Frau (vermutlich vom Personal oder sogar Leitung) begegnete uns mit einer derartigen Arroganz und Unverschämtheit, dass uns die Worte fehlten. Sie fuhr uns sofort an, wir seien hier falsch, das sei „ein Restaurant und keine Bar“, und wir sollen den Laden verlassen – auf eine beleidigende, herablassende Art, wie ich es in einem gastronomischen Betrieb noch nie erlebt habe. Wie kann man so eine Person überhaupt in einem Restaurant beschäftigen? Kunden derart zu behandeln, ist nicht nur unprofessionell, sondern schlicht inakzeptabel. Diese Frau hat in der Gastronomie nichts verloren. Der Besuch war eine absolute Zumutung, das Verhalten des Personals eine Frechheit. Finger weg von diesem Ort – wer auf Höflichkeit, Respekt und normalen Umgang Wert legt, sollte einen großen Bogen um den Deichgraf machen.

На улице были места, но нас не посадили, хотя мы до поезда пришли перекусить и выпить на полчаса! Сказали идти в зале сесть, но и там нас встретила дама официант и в абсолютно пустой!!! зал не посадила! Сказала «мы ресторан, выпить - идите в бар напротив». При том, что на улице подавали пиво и закуски. Но, видимо, только пожилым немцам. В 21 веке такое отношение к клиентам просто удивляет! Только немцы и будут ходить, потому что сервиса не знают.

Mi familia y yo vinimos aquí a cenar la última noche de nuestra estancia en Hamburgo. Cuando llegamos al restaurante, había mucha gente, lo que consideramos una buena señal. Nos llevó un tiempo sentarnos porque sólo había dos personas trabajando en el restaurante. Sin embargo, una vez que nos sentamos nos dieron los menús muy rápidamente y pudimos buscar nuestra comida. Una vez más, solo había dos personas trabajando, por lo que tardó un poco en que alguien viniera a tomar nuestro pedido de bebida. Fueron muy serviciales ya que éramos estadounidenses y no podíamos hablar mucho alemán. Éstas fueron las únicas dos cosas malas del restaurante. Una vez que recibimos nuestras bebidas, el resto de la noche transcurrió sin problemas. El ambiente era genial y el personal era muy agradable. La comida estuvo buena y mi familia la disfrutó mucho. Fue un gran lugar para pasar nuestro último día en Hamburgo y, aunque tuvimos un comienzo lento, definitivamente volveríamos.

We visited Hamburg for the weekend in June 2025 and were eager to enjoy some truly good North German cuisine. During our search, we came across the Deichgraf restaurant – luckily! We made a reservation in advance and made exactly the right decision. The food was simply outstanding – fresh, lovingly prepared, and full of flavor. Whether it was pan-fried fish, plaice "Finkenwerder style," or herring: Here, you can taste the high-quality regional ingredients used and the chef knows their craft. We would like to extend special praise to the hostess Magret Ismer. With her warm, Hanseatic manner, she immediately made us feel welcome. She runs the restaurant with genuine passion – you can feel it in every detail, from the service to the atmosphere. The ambience is also very stylish and cozy – Hanseatic, authentic, a true piece of Hamburg with a view of the canal. Anyone visiting Hamburg looking for culinary delights off the beaten track should not miss a visit to the Deichgraf.

Great restaurant with delicious local cuisine. The service was super friendly and had a wonderful North German dry sense of humor. The food was fantastic; it was my first time trying Labskaus, and it was incredibly delicious. Prices are perfectly reasonable for the location. We sat outside, which was a bit drafty, but there were blankets provided, although we could have gone inside as well. Highly recommended!

The food was excellent and obviously prepared by someone who loves food and fresh ingredients. The service was friendly, professional and relaxed int he best sense of the word. We sat outside on a beautiful June day, so I cannot comment on the ambience inside, but I can say that from the outside it looks like everything is done with a loving touch. I would definitely recommend and would definitely come again.

The vegetarian options are also creative and delicious. The atmosphere is stylish yet cozy – ideal for a special evening for two or a relaxed meal with friends. We'll definitely be back!

Wir haben einen Kurzurlaub in Hamburg mit einem Abendessen in diesem Restaurant abgeschlossen. Wir hatten als Vorspeise Süßkartoffel-Kokos-Suppe mit Nordseekrabben und Safran-Fischsuppe, im Hauptgang Hamburger Pannfisch und Scholle Finkenwerder Art, dazu eine Flasche Sancerre blanc von der Loire. Mein Sonderwunsch "Keine Salzkartoffeln, dafür bitte mehr Salat" wurde zuvorkommend erfüllt. Die Speisen waren perfekt aus frischen Zutaten zubereitet und wurden von einem freundlichen und sehr kompetenten Service serviert. Das angenehme Ambiente passt sehr gut in das historische Haus an der Deichstraße. Wir empfehlen "Deichgraf" und werden das Restaurant auf jeden Fall wieder aufsuchen, wenn uns der Weg wieder nach Hamburg führt.

A local recommended the place to us and it didn't disappoint. The ambience inside was really nice. The prices are not exorbitant, the fish is cooked to perfection. Plus fantastic wild garlic risotto. Recommend without hesitation!

My visit to the Deichgraf restaurant in Hamburg was simply perfect! The food was incredibly tasty – the herring fish in particular was a real highlight. It couldn't be more Hanseatic! I was so full afterwards that I really couldn't eat anything - and that's saying something. The lady in service was super friendly and made the evening even more pleasant. All in all: great atmosphere, great taste, great service. When I'm back in Hamburg, a visit to the Deichgraf is definitely planned. The food made me happy all day long!

The food was very good, although probably not great. We were served by supposedly the owner, and the service initially started as a 7/10, however, things got progressively better once we stared chatting with the owner. Turns out the restaurant was frequented by numerous high ranking German and Soviet / Russian politicians and other celebrities. The atmosphere is pretty authentic, the place is definitely worth a visit. Recommend.

Wir waren spontan um 18:15 Uhrdort und bekamen noch einen Platz bevor das Restaurant um 19:30 Uhr ausgebucht war. Sehr feines Lokal mit freundlichem Personal. Fisch und saisonale Speisen, wir hatten Gans mit Rotkohl, Rosenkohl und Knödel, sehr gute Qualität und sehr lecker. Die Preise liegen im oberen Bereich. Der Besuch lohnt sich!

Freundlich bis zur Abrechnung. Ab da sehr unhöflich, umständlich und im Befehlston. Laute Radiomusik mit Nachrichten und Moderation waren irritierend. Handgefertigte Metallpuppen zum Verkauf auf den Tischen als Deko ebenso unpassend. Das Essen war in Ordnung und auf Touristen abgestimmt hochpreisig. Sehr schade, aber gastfreundlich war das nicht.

Last night was the first - and certainly not the last - time we ate at Deichgraf: We shared the MatjesTartar on pumpernickel as a starter: sooooo delicious! As main courses we had the large salad plate with fried scampies and the pan fish in mustard sauce: both simply fantastic! The staff is super nice and attentive - unfortunately you don't get that so often anymore... The whole restaurant is decorated for Christmas: very tasteful: not too kitschy - not too much - just very cozy and stylish. All in all: a great visit! Thank you for that!!!

The Restaurant Deichgraf is a very good and traditional Hamburg restaurant and you can eat very good fish and Labskaus there (you have to have eaten it in Hamburg). The restaurant is on the historic Deichstrasse, which was not destroyed in the war. It's very comfortable inside and you can sit well. The service is very friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The food is really well prepared and really tasty, and the portions are really big enough.

Deichgraf, an institution of typical Hamburg cuisine. German dishes and of course also more modern ones. In the 80s a friend learned to cook here, so I often went there to eat. It's a historic place, and you can also get real Hamburger Labskaus here, a great menu and something for everyone! Quaint restaurant and highly recommended!

We were initially very pleased when we arrived at this restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience took a turn after dinner. The waiter, who seemed very kind at first, informed us when we were about to pay that there was a “rule” specific to Hamburg requiring a tip of 10-15%. As frequent travelers, we always enjoy our experiences and are quite generous. However, this time we felt deceived, especially when we later discovered at other establishments that this so-called “rule” was entirely made up by the waiter to scam us. For a place as chic and upscale as this, such behavior is completely unacceptable. We were very disappointed to have our evening spoiled by this dishonesty.

The food is not that good. On the menu they have pan fried fish with roast potatoes. They served fish with french fries. Asked for tap water they said Hamburg has no tap water. This is very dishonest as Germany has very high quality tap water that is tested. The restaurant prefers to sell bottled water. I am from London and the restaurants there always give free water with meals. This place seems like a tourist restaurant ripping off people.

The Deichgraf Restaurant is an absolute must for all Labskaus lovers and everything else on offer! The Labskaus was by far the best I've ever eaten. I was amazed by the perfect balance of ingredients. Plus the cozy atmosphere and the courteous service – simply perfect! I'll definitely come back to try other dishes from northern German cuisine. Full 5 stars for everything!

Good morning. Based on a recommendation, we visited the dike count. We arrived with high expectations, but these were once again exceeded. An absolutely friendly team works there. The dishes were very well prepared, the meat was tender, the vegetables were al dente, very, very good! If you come to HH you should stop there!

Waren mit sechs Personen in Hamburg und entdecken dieses gemütliche Restaurant Pfingstsonntag. Ohne Reservierung hatten wir Glück, dass wir um 16:30 noch einen Tisch bekamen. Die Scholle und der Salat dazu waren der Wahnsinn von Größe und Geschnack, das Labskaus fein abgeschmeckt. Das Bier gut gekühlt. Souverän, professionell und mit Hamburger Charme begleitete der professionelle Service uns durch den Abend. Die Preise sind etwas höher. Das Ambiente hat uns gefallen.

Sur la devanture du restaurant il est stipulé à 2 endroits que la carte AMEX est acceptée, au moment du paiement = refus. De plus on commande des asperges seules et on nous apporte des asperges avec un morceau de viande, on est surpris mais ne maîtrisant pas la langue on ne dit rien. Après avoir mis un coup de fourchette dans la viande la serveuse vient et nous fait comprendre qu’elle s’est trompée mais que faire on avait commencé à manger. Au moment de l’addition aucun geste commercial, on paie le plat que l’on n’avait pas commandé ce qui fait considérablement augmenter l’addition. Ces 2 problèmes non négligeables, mis à part, et expliquant la note, les plats sont copieux et bons.

We had dinner there on Saturday. We hadn't seen each other since high school 30 years ago and wanted to rediscover typical Hamburg dishes. Therefore, Deichgraf is a designated institution of first choice, where the prices are even very reasonable. In addition to the classic menu, we were offered a daily menu with seasonal vegetables - currently asparagus. I ordered asparagus soup with gratinated goat cheese as a starter and fish with asparagus as the main course. It was hearty, healthy and balanced. I drank Riesling. For dessert, many of us had a typical red fruit jelly. Service is excellent, very profesionnel, food was served synchronized, we didn't wait, staff is very friendly. The only thing I found strange is that during this meal, a playlist with, among other things, hard rock songs (Iron Maiden?) was played with electric guitars, which didn't fit with the atmosphere and the dishes. I think a jazz or classical music playlist would be a better fit. But no matter, the music was just quiet in the background anyway and didn't bother me. Great enjoyment experience. Please remember to reserve at least 10 days in advance because a meal at Deichgraf is worth it.

A city guide pointed out this restaurant to us. We got a place at short notice. A very tasty meal: sample portion of labskaus, panfish and a wonderfully prepared plaice Finkenwerder style. A well-tapped beer at the right temperature. Food is clear and simple without any unnecessary frills, served by a knowledgeable and courteous staff. The price-performance ratio was right despite being in a tourist area. All in all, a reason to come back. I am looking forward to it

Unsere angemeldete Reisegruppe hatte den urigen Kellerraum für sich, bis auf 2 oder 3 Tische. Die Getränkebestellung und auch ein Körbchen mit dunklen Brotscheiben und eine Kugel groben Schmalzes servierte man flott. Dann das vorbestellte Menü schwach: Kartoffelsuppe mit Rauchlachs zwar heiß, aber etwas fad. Das Rumpsteak zwar medium, aber lauwarm. Auf meinen Wunsch, es heiß zu genießen, reagierte die Bedienung, brachte nach peinlich langen Minuten wieder den heißen Teller (betont durch ein darunter gelegtes Küchentuch), auf dem das Fleisch gerade ein wenig wärmer war. Die Röstkartoffeln darum schon geschrumpft, mit schwarzen Stellen an der Pelle. Das Schälchen Rote Grütze mit einer kleinen Kugel Vanilleeis mäßig, zu viel Gelatine. Das übrig gebliebene Brot wurde ohne zu Fragen abgeräumt, erst auf meinen deutlichen Halt-Ruf konnte ich es mit dem Rest Schmalz bestrichen und in einer Serviette mitnehmen. Wirklich bedauerlich, dass unsere Mitreisenden ihre warmen Steaks verspeisten, ohne den Mut zu klagen!

Nice, dignified restaurant with very friendly service and delicious food. We were there for a snack at lunchtime and went straight back for dinner in the evening - we liked it that much! There is a good selection of food and a nice wine list and you can enjoy the beautifully decorated restaurant. A reservation is recommended, it is well attended!

Travelling Hamburg we had the chance to "compare" two restaurants nearly next door - this is about the "Deichgraf". In a few words: great hospitality, immediate qualified response to questions about menu and drinks, excellent balance between price and quality, waiters extraordinary joyful serving us as their guests - kind of "family dining room"-atmosphere. food with focus on local specialities - straight without any squiggles!

Table booked well in advance for New Year's Eve. After calling to report a slight delay, when we arrived at the restaurant they informed us that due to a small "mistake" our table had been given to others and that there were no other seats available except with a gentleman. Bad reception

Vornehmes historisches Haus mit passendem Publikum. Küche regional hanseatisch, geschmacklich akzeptabel, in der Anrichtung eher bieder auf Hausmannskostniveau. Das Personal freundlich mit einer Tendenz zur Distanzlosigkeit. Keine schlechte Wahl, es gibt aber besseres.

Leckeres Essen… Uriges Ambiente… Service war freundlich jedoch sehr unterkühlt… haben uns nicht sehr wohlgefühlt…
