Dat Fischhuus in Eckernförde

Great location, friendly staff but quite expensive

We stayed at Dat Fischhuus, right by Eckernförde Harbor. It was beautifully located, with a view of the harbor – and we sat in a small beach chair that's used as a seat there. It was cozy, even though it was cold outside. We had fish sandwiches: two with fried fish, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with a delicious remoulade, and a roll with fresh crab, which was really well-filled. We also had a glass of wine and a hot chocolate – a lovely combination for the weather. Overall, a very nice visit; we were truly impressed and will definitely be back.

Nice service, and there's a nice outdoor seating area. There are only a few seats inside. A bit pricey for a small portion, but delicious. They almost always have the same menu.

Great fish sandwich! Great location! Friendly staff! Never had such a delicious Bismarck herring sandwich, and for €4.90! Highly recommended after a long stroll through the city.

The host responded quickly to any food intolerances and, not always the case in Germany, was very knowledgeable about the fact that fries aren't gluten-free, even if something else is used in the fryer. Delicious plaice and a beautiful view of the water. I always enjoy coming here when I'm working in Kiel.

We were completely satisfied. The herring rolls were warm, the herring was delicious, and the wine was generously gifted with Pinot Gris, rounded off with the fish soup, and all served by very friendly staff. It was a pleasure.

I ordered a large portion of fish soup. It tasted okay, but there was too little fish and vegetables. It's a shame, but next time I'll order something else.

It's a shame the fried potatoes didn't see a pan. The food tasted OK. However, if you list three different fish fillets on the menu, it should be at least a third of the original fish fillet, not just a bite of the fillet. As mentioned, the chef must have had the day off to make the fried potatoes, because other pictures show pan-fried potatoes and not convection oven potatoes. Well, maybe he was wrong today.

A wonderful family afternoon! We went out to eat with our two children and felt completely at home. I chose the fried fish, my wife the fresh herring in various variations – both were delicious. Our children loved the chicken nuggets and what were probably the crispiest fries we've ever eaten. The ambiance is very modern yet cozy, making you feel immediately welcome. The service was attentive and extremely courteous – you can tell that true hospitality is at the forefront here. We were not only full, but also happy. A place we would love to return to. We went there for dinner yesterday and had a jacket potato with shrimp, which was okay, but at almost €20, it was quite overpriced. We also had the Fischhus plate, which promised three fish fillets. The fillets were tiny, two forkfuls full, and they served a tiny salad from a bag with ready-made sauce on top. The fried potatoes were so-so. At €27 for this dish, I really felt ripped off—it's outrageous!

We ordered at the restaurant, as described on the menu. I had the fried fish with fried potatoes: the fish was perfect – nice and juicy, the breading thin and crispy, really delicious. The fried potatoes were also delicious. The side salad was also good, but unfortunately not cleaned very thoroughly. My husband ordered the plaice, which was also very tasty. The fries were crispy and fresh. The food arrived in about 15-20 minutes, and the portions were very generous. For about €20 per plate, we were both more than full. The staff were consistently very friendly and accommodating. At first, we were unsure whether to eat here because of some reviews – but in retrospect, I'm very glad we decided to. We can definitely recommend the restaurant!

Delicious fish sandwich Great staff

The location is definitely nice...but... We visited many fish restaurants during our stay on the Baltic Sea. But we've never experienced so little, sometimes so bad, for so much money. I understand that everything is getting more expensive...but... My husband had the rösti plate and had to pay an extra €5 to even get the crab advertised on the menu. (What do you do...you have to be understanding.) But around €30 for 4 small rösti, 3 slices of salmon, and 2 tablespoons of crab, plus a salad garnish, is pretty steep!!! I was really hungry, wanted to treat myself, and opted for the Fischhuus platter. (3 fish pieces cost just under €30.) I got 3 pieces that were only slightly larger than fish sticks. And all the fish was dry!!! I've rarely been so disappointed with a meal!

Location: Great! The system is also perfectly organized, able to withstand any crowd – simple and understandable for everyone. Friendly staff. However, on two consecutive days at roughly the same time – around 7 p.m. – I noticed significant differences in quality with the same order (fried herring sandwich plus beer). On the first day, the fish sandwich was carefully and deliciously prepared; on the second day, it was carelessly thrown together. On the first day, I received a bill without being asked – as is only right; on the second day, I had to request it; I wasn't even asked if I wanted one. Anyone who's done their research knows what this means – withholding receipts... I was there on August 11th and 12th.

Partially. My wife had the fried herring with fried potatoes. The fried herring was probably from a discount store, out of a 1000-gram can. I had the daily special, plaice fillet. Both came with soft fried potatoes that had clearly only been briefly pan-fried. The fish part was fried to death. That was an insult to any fish!!! Before 2024, the fish stall was still recommendable. When I look at the praise on the website, I wonder if I went to the wrong shop. Best regards.

We were charged €30 for this portion (€25 on the menu + an extra €5 due to the current price of crab, according to the waitress). Absolutely outrageous.

It was okay, but I've seen better fish restaurants. The glass was dirty, the toilet wasn't really clean. The roll itself was okay. The drinks were ridiculously overpriced.

I think it's great. You order at the counter, and the waitress serves you. No endless waiting for drinks, then food, etc. The food comes pretty quickly. It's relatively inexpensive considering the central location. The taste is good, with no surprises.

A very nice fish restaurant right on the harbor. The Fischhuus plate is plentiful and very tasty. I highly recommend it. Additional note: I stopped by again today and had a delicious meal. This time I sat inside because of the bad weather. It was still very nice and really delicious.

Creepy! Yesterday (April 26th) 30% of the tables were occupied. There were 3 waiters walking around. Nobody came to take orders. So we left after 20 minutes. The table next to us was completely forgotten and had already been waiting for drinks for 20 minutes. Other guests joked that they would just eat the rolls for dinner. Creepy! You have to speak to customers and be able to write down drinks or eat them - we will never know what the food tastes like. By the way, 50 meters away is a great fish cart. Fresh and fast. So just keep going!

Fish plate was delicious, the only annoying thing is that you have to go in to order. Advance payment! A bit expensive, considering you don't get full service right at the table.

A cod fillet with fried potatoes was ordered for €23. The fried potatoes were soaked in fat and not at all crispy. They mostly stayed on the plate. No relationship between price and performance. In fairness, a free coffee was offered. The service was very friendly.

Best fried fish ever! The cook knows how to fry the fried fish juicy and to perfection (whereas most people bake the fish dry). Very friendly service, very clean. Courteous staff.

I've never eaten such a bad, unloving fried fish sandwich. The first one I tried was still cold and raw inside. After returning it, I was given a new fried fish sandwich. This one was full of fat and tasted of nothing. After two bites, this €8 sandwich was thrown away.

If you want to sit outside with a little “view” and have a drink... ok!! Otherwise it's more of a snack bar than a restaurant! Just look at the schnitzel... a very, very small frozen schnitzel that went into the deep fryer and then lay on the plate, dripping with fat... and then for 16.50... scary

Dat Fischhuus has always been my first port of call in Eckernförde in recent years, apparently there has been a change of operator. Cannot be compared with the previous owner.

Man hat das Gefühl, abgefertigt zu werden. Das ist nach meiner Meinung ein Imbiss, der mit Restaurant nix zu tun hat. Auch wenn die Masche so´n bisschen von Gosch abgeguckt ist. Aber das ist kein Vergleich. Produkte sind nicht schlecht. Aber die Verpackung - nix für mich.

Unfortunately, the food didn't convince us. The fried potatoes were in the pan for far too long, the potato salad was bought and didn't really taste good, the remoulade was mayonnaise with a little parsley, the housewife sauce lacked flavor and the sherry matjes wasn't the best quality either in terms of taste or firmness.

It's definitely delicious. They're nice too. So good value for money. Top 👍😃

Had cod fillet. Was cooked well. Some more variety in the salad attachment would have been welcome. Price-quality ratio is excellent. Beautiful view over the harbour. Friendly service.

Incredibly unfriendly and slow staff!🤨 After I called attention to myself twice, I was made to understand that the waitress was coming soon. However, she only went to the neighboring table to take the order there... we were told by another waiter that we should go in and order there ourselves. Tip: It's much nicer to sit across the bridge, the service is very friendly and quick, and the food is great!

Breaded pollack with fried potatoes. 2 pieces of fish, of which 1 breading is almost burnt, corresponds to dry fish. Remolade was equivalent to 1 teaspoon. Doesn't correspond to my expectations.

We wanted to eat fish and chips. We then got fish nuggets and fries. One positive thing I can mention is that the food was hot. Unfortunately, that was all. The nuggets were first fried and then warmed up again in the pan. This is how eating fish can make you feel sick. The fries tasted a little better, but they were served with a salad mayonnaise that tasted too sweet for me. The ambience is great, view of the harbor. The tables could be clean, then at least you could have a drink here...

If you want to eat pressed breadcrumbs instead of a fish cake in a bun, you've come to the right place!

We sat inside because it was pretty full outside, but that didn't bother us. My husband had plaice and was very satisfied, the fried potatoes with it were great. I had the currywurst😅, I'm just not much of a fish eater. It was also good, which I liked because there wasn't too much sauce on the sausage.

I'm sorry, but by far the worst fish sandwiches we've ever eaten, let's not even talk about the prices. This restaurant made a good impression at first glance, but unfortunately we were wrong. We wouldn't recommend it!

Some details could be better. The salt and pepper shakers made a dirty impression and the (men's) toilets smelled very strong.

I used to be here regularly, apparently there was a change in concept (ordering at the counter -> well, ok), but at the same time I imagine that the prices have been increased and the quality seems to have gone down. The fish was fried for far too long in too much fat and therefore had hardly any taste.

Food was okay, only the side dish could have been a little more. For me the sourcream had nothing to do with sourcream.

Super friendly staff, have a smile for you even in the busiest crowds and offer great service. The restaurant is designed for many guests and the menu accordingly. Still a good selection. We had different fish dishes that were prepared to perfection, the portions were generous and simply delicious. You can sit right next to the romantic harbor, watch people and see ships sailing. Nice place!

As a resident of Eckernförde, I went there regularly because they had the best and freshest fried fish rolls. The last few times, however, it was noticeable that the price had increased, but the size of the fish had halved, and there was only a small leaf of lettuce and a touch of tartar sauce in it. Yesterday the piece of fish was kept warm, which made it totally boring, the batter was very dark and even smaller than usual. When I complained about this, the dark-haired man behind the counter became very unfriendly in his broken German, even more unfriendly than usual and you already have every time he feels like he doesn't feel like it and is completely annoyed! The rest of the team is trying very hard, but you can also notice the tense mood among the employees there. I can well imagine how stressful a season like this can be with so many visitors, you can get annoyed at times, but when I offer a service, a little bit of friendliness is still to be expected. For me that was the last time I bought anything there. I felt like I was totally ripped off in the Fischhuus yesterday, apart from being treated extremely unfriendly again! Thanks for nothing!

The concept consists of partial self-service, you first have to go to the counter and remember the table numbers beforehand, and then the food is served to the table. Okay, that's fine. Inside, however, it's confusing as to where you can order now, because there's a separate checkout for take away, so you'll probably be in the wrong line. The quality of the food is quite okay, but nothing more. For example, the fries were almost cold and not in the deep fryer for long, which is rather unpleasant. So if you want to go out for a delicious meal, you may be disappointed here.

We had a spontaneous meal here today. The view of the harbor is wonderful and cozy. The order was made after making a selection in the restaurant and was then served at the table. The service is very friendly and despite the fact that it was very busy, they respond to requests calmly and thoughtfully. Unfortunately there is no toilet, you have to use it outside. I have one point of criticism for the sour cream; it didn't taste like that to me, it just tasted like quark from the supermarket.

We had a really delicious meal 😊... The price-performance ratio was totally reasonable...there was plenty for the price and it was really very tasty...everything was freshly prepared... And you didn't have to wait long at all...everyone was super friendly and accommodating... All we can do is say thank you🍀... When we are back in Eckernförde, we will definitely come back..

Pollock was very oily and unappetizing, fried potatoes very little and totally dry. The schnitzel was frozen and only browned in the deep fryer. Matjes was good. Overall, no recommendation.

Paid too much and ordered something and didn't receive it at all!
