Das Waldtraut in Oberursel (Taunus)

We have been enjoying the hospitality at Waldtraut for a long time and are now loyal regular customers. The quality of service, food and drinks was mostly impeccable. The disappointment was all the more bitter when recently, exhausted from hiking, we would have liked to have had another supper, as they say in the south of our homeland. Our question as to whether there were two (not twenty) places available was rather brusquely answered in the negative. Now we didn't plan on staying in Waldtraut until dawn. That means there were definitely two places for a culinary quickie. However, we were briskly turned away with the statement that we were full tonight. We were literally served. Apparently you can no longer visit without a reservation. Especially not spontaneously, not even as a regular customer. The remaining sandwiches from our hiking provisions saved us outside in the autumn freshness. At least we observed that there were free places during this time. Final point: According to the flyer, the Waldtraut advertises with a lot of fuss "tasty winter dishes" in view of the dark season and encourages its guests: "Book your cozy winter evening in the forest." There should be plenty of free places there... Conclusion: As loyal regular customers, we are disappointed that no alternatives or options were shown to us, for example, if half an hour is enough for you, you could sit at this table, etc. It must be possible to stop at a hiking restaurant after a hike without making a reservation ... Addendum: A year has passed and we don't miss anything. We are always welcome at Anitas Fuchstanz, even without a reservation. There is always a place there. Hospitality is very important here. Clear recommendation for Anita’s Fuchstanz! And: The homemade roulades are awesome! A highlight: the freshly tapped beer!

The place is buzzing. Small menu, so everything can be fresh. The staff is quick and friendly.

Bisher war ich immer gerne hier, aber diesmal war ich sehr enttäuscht. Das Hirschgulasch von der Saisonkarte war voller Fett und Sehnen und trotzdem zäh. Die angeblich hausgemachten Semmelknödel waren das nie und nimmer. So fest und trocken sind nichtmal die Billigmarken aus dem Kochbeutel. Und das für satte 24,90 Euro!!! Wie gut, dass ich den Singlegutschein aus dem Barometer habe, dachte ich, dann ist es nicht so schlimm. Aber rechnen können sie auch nicht und haben mir statt den 50% (= 15,20 Eur) auf Essen und Getränk nur 7 Eur Rabatt gewährt. Das ist nicht korrekt und vergrault die Kunden dann vollends.

We stopped there after a hiking tour. Open, modern and yet cozy describe the place well. The staff is super friendly and on the ball. We went there as a group for coffee and cake. The menu is varied and also offers meat-free alternatives. The prices are reasonable and the order was delivered quickly. We were there on a Saturday, so it was full and yet you didn't feel rushed or restricted. Just the thing after a hike and therefore a clear recommendation.

Food, service and. Ambience great. Unfortunately it has become expensive.

Nice contact point and meeting point on the Hohemark for the whole family, with good food and drinks. From here you can go on great hiking tours to the Fuchstanz or the Großer Feldberg. Top!

Some waiters are very unfriendly and condescending towards the guests

Very nice location with perfect public transport connections. Good fried potatoes with wild aspic, unfortunately the aspic had almost no taste, but the green sauce dip made up for it. The potato pumpkin thalers were also a bit bland. The small side salad for 7.30 euros was too expensive. I think you can get more out of the products so that the prices are competitive.

Service was subpar: when I asked if the table was free I received a mushy answer. The waiting time to order was hard, the service was extremely overwhelmed and unfriendly. Service was rude to the guests with “you’re all impatient today”. Not open to criticism, pure rejection and troubleshooting with customers. Never again! My brother and I feel sick after eating!!! We have diarrhea & vomiting: subterranean quality! The pork schnitzel was drier than the fries, the forest mushroom sauce felt like a packet sauce without forest mushrooms (champions). And given the quality for a potato soup, two schnitzels and two drinks, €60.70 is out of all proportion!

The bad reviews are from entitled morons that think they should always be served first. It may take a while to get your food, because it’s crowded. That’s how restaurants work. Super good food, a little expensive, and super nice staff

Delicious food and good selection

We visited the restaurant with seven people, four adults and three children. It is in a good location with direct and sufficient public parking spaces, but these are chargeable until 6 p.m. There is a climbing wall in the restaurant where the children can keep themselves busy while you wait for your food. The waiters are always polite and competent, and there are enough of them for the size of the restaurant. Now about the food: The food we ordered was there after just 20 minutes. Now the quality can be argued. Can high-quality food (forest mushroom schnitzel, fried vegetables, fries, spaetzle, etc.) be prepared after it is ready? At least it has to be of high quality considering the prices. Because for €7.10 for a side salad, €35 for a rumstake, €24 for a schnitzel with mushrooms, it has to be high quality. I also absolutely don't understand why you have to charge €6.10 for a small portion of fries. Maybe because this is the most frequently ordered dish when there are children? I don't know it. In terms of taste, you can't say anything negative about the food. It was tasty, but it didn't necessarily blow our socks off. It should also be mentioned, since the restaurant is busy, that you should not occupy a table for longer than two hours.

It tasted fantastic (special menu of pumpkin dishes), the service staff were super nice, we felt very comfortable.

After a short hike we returned with a good appetite. Very friendly service, recommendation of the pumpkin menu taken seriously: The minced steak with pumpkin purée and pumpkin wedge was super tasty, and the wild mushroom schnitzel was also great. We'd love to come back, it's definitely worth a visit.

Good home cooking. Very reliable with plenty of parking options for a fee.

Essen war eher mittelmäßig. Wir waren an einem Regentag mittags dort, 2 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder. 90 Euro zahlten wir für Schnitzel, Flammkuchen, Suppe, Salat, Kinderessen, Getränke und Trinkgeld. Die Preise stimmen mit der Essensqualität nicht überein. Meiner Meinung nach ist ein höherer Preis in Ordnung, wenn das Essen entsprechend zubereitet wird. -> die Salate waren sehr stark gezuckert, praktisch ohne Dressing. Wir waren uns einig, dass es gewöhnungsbedürftig geschmeckt hat. Kinder sind ja bei sowas immer sehr ehrlich :-) -> es ist selten, dass mein Sohn seine Chicken Nuggets mit Pommes nicht aufisst, obwohl es eine wirklich kleine Portion war. -> das Waldpilz-Schnitzel war sehr stark gesalzen und ich war ein wenig enttäuscht über die Größe der Portion, Pommes zu lange frittiert und trocken (schee knusprisch) -> Flammkuchen auch eher knusprig/wohl zu lange im Ofen -> Essen kam erst für zwei Personen und dann nach 5 Minuten für die anderen beiden, obwohl gemeinsam bestellt wurde. Für uns nicht so schlimm, aber wer Wert darauf legt.... Bedienung war so mittel, wie das heute manchmal so ist. Nicht sonderlich gut gelaunt oder freundlich aber macht halt so den Job. Ich hoffe, dass der Wirt das Essen einmal selbst probiert (denn ich kann mir nur schwer vorstellen, dass das in der letzten Zeit einmal geschehen ist) und möglicherweise entweder Qualität, Mengen der Speisen oder Preise anpasst....und bitte nicht zu sehr über die Kritik aufregen. Ist nur zum Verbessern gedacht. Jedenfalls: am Ende wir sind alle satt geworden und Lebbe geht weider. Nur zum Trinken einer Erfrischung nach der Wanderung ist der Ort aktuell sicher in Ordnung.

Large portions, tasty, good service [Sept. 2024]

We were in this restaurant for the second time yesterday and were bitterly disappointed for the second time! The first time we ordered Strammer Max and once meatloaf with fried potatoes and some kind of sauce. The tight Max was anything but tight. The ham was thin and of poor and cheap quality. The bread just as cheap and bland. The fried egg was already as cold as the slice of ham. The meatloaf was some cheap defrosted version, the sauce on top was even cheaper but the fried potatoes with it were the same "absolute crowning glory". They were more like boiled potatoes that had been warmed up somehow and the consistency was much more like boiled potatoes. In this respect, browned, bland boiled potatoes. We were invited to this meal and to the meal yesterday and so for the host's sake we didn't mention anything about it. Now we thought yesterday...invited there again after a year, things can only get better... No, absolutely no. Things got even worse! Based on my experience, I preferred to order a simple cheeseburger with fries for just under €17!!! You can't go wrong with a cheeseburger...I thought and hoped. Far from it...a thin rubbery burger slice, some tomato and cucumber, the burger was dry and the burger slice was almost cold and also very tough. But the fries were nice and warm...the burger probably had to wait for the fries... It was difficult to cut the burger with the cutlery provided because all the knives on the table were useless. This meal was also very bad. The other meal was bread dumplings with a chanterelle sauce and some meat. The dumplings were hard and of poor quality...they could have been nailed to the wall without any problems. There were even chanterelles in the sauce, but the sauce itself was the cheapest ready-made product. We were also invited to this meal... My conclusion now: The food there is really not good and totally overpriced for this cheap quality. Maybe it's less noticeable if you can't cook yourself, but our four dishes were still very easy to cook. I cannot recommend this restaurant. The ambience is still just fine. The operations are always easy annoyed/unnerved. We will never eat there again!

We've already stopped there twice to finish the tour after our MTB tours in the Taunus... great ambience, super nice service and the food is top!!! 👌😊 If we are in the area again, we would definitely like to come back!!! 👍

Good for a drink after a hike or bike ride. Otherwise, through traffic atmosphere.

The food was very tasty, but the price was high. When I read the menu I found some of the prices quite unreasonable. The drinks prices are also too high, unfortunately not only here. To my dismay, I could hardly sit anymore and I discovered the seat cushions too late. Well, I could have asked...but it was busy and the service staff were pretty busy. The location of the restaurant is good, right on the edge of the forest. We were protected even in a small rain shower by large parasols. Overall, I was bothered by the uncomfortable sitting on the bench and the fairly high prices. Even if the food was good, I wouldn't visit the restaurant again.

The hand cheese is highly recommended. The rump steak was also cooked well to order. Unfortunately the service was quite stressed and stroppy. There was a mix-up, the Lemonade Fürs Radler ended up in the apple spritzer and the sparkling water ended up in the Radler. When asked about this, there was no replacement, not even the voucher was accepted for the drink because one had already been redeemed. Honestly, if you've already paid over €100, can the voucher for the mistaken drink worth €4.40 be used in such a situation, or is the economic loss not bearable?

Mega fresh and delicious salads, the homemade lemonade tastes great and something completely different. The service was super friendly - great team. You can sit outside under the umbrellas in a very friendly atmosphere.

Positive: open all day Monday to Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m In summer you can sit nicely at modern beer benches and tables near the stream; This makes it very pleasant in the shade even at 32°. Hamburger €15.50 with fries; fresh beer from oberUrsel Brauhaus €5.30. Dogs are also welcome!

Great restaurant at the starting point of numerous tours in the Taunus. Food is very tasty, large beer garden, but even during the week you have to be lucky to find a place. In terms of price, it's in the upper segment, and there aren't enough service staff for the rush. The beer comes from the “Alt Oberurserler” brewery, very tasty. “Taunus Die Höhe” tourist information office in the same building.

Simply great food in a very good location and great quality. It was a homemade meatball with fried potatoes. Next time Schnitzel with chanterelles is no longer recommended, everything is too fatty and too expensive. With a drink for 2 people €60.20. What a shame.

Stopped here after the bike tour around the Feldberg to replenish the calories we burned. The fried eggs with fried potatoes were not spectacular, but tasted good. The portion of fried potatoes was absolutely sufficient, although a little too oily. The sheet cake (cheesecake with tangerine) was very, very tasty. The coffee with it, too. The prices are normal for the region. Everything within the framework. The young lady in service outside was super nice and friendly, didn't seem stressed and did her job really well, despite the mid-summer temperatures. We'll be back after our next tour. 👍🏼

A ray of hope in the catering industry: you can get a table without a reservation, the food (rösti, salmon and salad) is extremely tasty and beautifully decorated, the atmosphere is great, hiking trails and parking spaces right in front of the door, the waiter is competent, friendly and quick. Keep it up!!!

Hiking break of the most beautiful kind. Mega delicious hand cheese with music (three kinds) and Äppler. Preferably outside when the weather is nice. Even a small rain shower doesn't matter - the big umbrellas protect you ;). Also nice for families with and without dogs.

We were there on Sunday at lunchtime (12 ooh) without reservation. There were still about 20 seats. We were served quickly and the food and drink came very quickly. Unfortunately there is no motorcycle parking space.

We felt very comfortable. After a hike we returned. Reserved in advance. The forest mushroom schnitzel was very tasty. But other dishes also looked good. Very hard-working service, at least the lady who served us. The top hammer is the beer. It ended at 10 p.m., but that was enough for us. Highly recommended. We will be back.

Wie man es schafft, eine so schlechte grie Soß hinzukriegen, ist mir ein Rätsel. Die Salzkartoffeln waren fade und schneeweiß. Das gekochte Ei wohl aus der Metro, wenn überhaupt, mein Mann hatte den Hamburger , der war ohne Probleme.

So beautiful and delicious I come from Frankfurt especially to be able to switch off for a moment. Always happy :) big compliments to the employees, they are really friendly and very hard-working!

Drinnen ist die Atmosphäre fast wie Bahnhofshalle. Draußen hat man zwar einerseits Ruhe und sieht den Wald. Andererseits ist die Straße und der Parkplatz des TIZ mit entsprechender Unruhe. Das Essen,.. also naja, nicht lecker und total überteuert. Die müssen wohl die überteuerte miete wieder reinholen. Wir kommen definitiv nicht mehr.

We've eaten there twice so far and sat inside and outside. The restaurant is beautifully located on the edge of the forest. The food is very good and the staff is extremely friendly. The prices are high, but in my opinion they correspond to the current situation. We will be back definitely.

We were there on Monday lunchtime, not much going on. Maybe that's why the service was a bit under- or overwhelmed. Bread with the salad was forgotten twice. The prices were way too high for what was on the plate. We had a salad with fried mushrooms for 17.40 (tasted good, but not enough to fill you up and 1 slice (!) of bread only after repeated requests) and the Frankfurter Schnitzel for 21.10€. The fried potatoes and green sauce were good, but about half of what you get in other places for €16-18. The two small schnitzels of the same shape looked and tasted like ready-made food. More breading than meat. Horribly loud inside when it's full. We sat outside in the sun. That was nice. Why can't well-located excursion restaurants in the Frankfurt area also impress with their quality and price-PERFORMANCE? Isn’t it possible in the Palatinate and Bavaria too?

The Waldtraut is a top location. Unless the weather is bad, a reservation is particularly useful. I was there on a rainy day and it was still busy, so I ate with my companion on the terrace and didn't get wet. The food was super tasty and absolutely worth the price paid. Due to its location on 2 hiking routes, there are also many hikers as guests. I only saw happy faces from these guests after visiting the restaurant. Topic about people with disabilities: The restaurant “Das Waldtraut” is suitable for people with disabilities. It doesn't matter whether the ailments are physical or psychological, as long as you treat the staff kindly. When I informed about my handicap, I was kindly asked how they could help me better and what they should pay more attention to. My wishes were taken into account and I got the help I needed. If you can't eat everything, please point this out to the staff when you order and they will take this into consideration. Because of the medication I was taking at the time, I was not allowed to consume any products containing grapefruit or alcohol. In addition, it was unclear at the time whether I would be able to tolerate salmon and dishes fried/cooked with salmon again. This was taken into account by mentioning this when ordering.

Always a pleasure, for example after a trip to the large Feldberg. Fries are super tasty and when the weather is nice they are best served with a wheat outside.

Very nice atmosphere outside and inside and thanks to the quick service, the food is usually on the table quite quickly - even if it is sometimes fuller when the hiking weather is nice. There's actually something for everyone and really tasty too! We always enjoy coming back.

The Waltraud is one of my favorite places in the Taunus. When the weather is nice it is twice as nice.

We live in the neighborhood and really enjoy eating there. It's especially nice when all the day hikers have left again 😀. The Handkäs with three kinds of onions is particularly recommended. Plus an Äppler and nice table neighbors. Service is always very friendly. Dogs are also welcome.

The restaurant is very busy on a Wednesday lunchtime. The atmosphere is really nice here too. Unfortunately the staff seems very stressed and not very friendly.

Great food... nice atmosphere... service staff are super nice and friendly when the shop is busy it can take a while... BUT the service staff do everything to your satisfaction and you can clearly see and hear that.

It was a very nice and delicious lunch. The service was very nice and quick. The ambience is nice but not stylish or similar. It's not bad, it's just not a restaurant for a quiet, classic meal.

Well-attended taproom. Thanks to a reservation, we sat on the edge; in the middle of it all, it might have been too loud for me to have a conversation. Food tasted delicious. Portion okay to just enough, I've had larger ones at the Brauhaus and Wäldches for the same price. The accompanying side salad was better than in the other two locations and the dressing with raspberry vinegar was great. The service was attentive and very friendly. If you like German cuisine, you're in good hands there. We'll definitely come back again in the summer to sit outside

We were there spontaneously for lunch on a Sunday and were seated at a long table with other guests. Luckily we had chairs with backs and no stools. Unfortunately, the food wasn't that great, the children didn't like the spaetzle with sauce and my fried potatoes were extremely oily. We also told the waitress this. It was okay, we'll definitely come back if we happen to hike there etc. But I wouldn't go there specifically for that reason. There are tastier food and cozy restaurants nearby.

If you come without a reservation, you will be told that you should reserve in advance. However, short-term reservations are not possible. Never again!!

Unfortunately the trout smelled and tasted musty, something like that shouldn't happen! The venison bratwurst with kale, on the other hand, was delicious.

Well located at the Taunus hiking information center. Seating inside and outside. Ambiance is quite good, could be more comfortable, but is designed to be more practical. Still suitable, it's best to reserve on the weekend. Food selection is okay, seasonal promotions, prices are okay, not cheap, but understandable given the location. There is a climbing wall outside and there is also a diaper changing room in the basement. All in all, highly recommended.
