Das Jagdhaus in Oberstdorf

...After 28 years of living, I'm writing my first restaurant review because I'm really pissed off. Like many others, it seems. We ate here two years ago, and everything was great. So great, in fact, that we came back to Oberstdorf specifically for it. Today was a complete disaster. Terrible service, and the food wasn't much different from cafeteria fare. A complete waste of money and time. If the place continues like this and the customers have the guts, the owner should either sell it, close the place, or rethink what he wants to stand for and change something. Things can't go on the way they are now... Please spend your money somewhere else.

We visited the hunting lodge as part of a wedding. In addition to the rustic and typical local ambiance, the hunting lodge impressed us with its excellent service. The baby's bottle was graciously warmed to the perfect temperature in a water bath, so we were able to leave our own warmer with us. A small toy was also provided to keep even the youngest guests entertained. The food was delicious, plentiful, and good value for money.

An exciting restaurant concept with excellent food! The restaurant serves rustic dishes of the highest quality. The highlight: The food is exclusively (!) regional, meaning there's no pepper or lemon in the entire restaurant, as these ingredients aren't native to Germany. This means, in turn, that the dishes must possess a certain level of flavor and quality from the ground up, as a key ingredient in seasoning is deliberately omitted. We had veal schnitzel and cold roast (as an appetizer). The cold roast was like a carpaccio meets vitello tonnato with mustard and pickles. Simply delicious. The veal schnitzel was Munich-style, brushed with mild mustard before being breaded. Served with butter and horseradish, as well as cranberries. 10 out of 10, it was extremely tender and generous.

We were in the restaurant in the evening. The ambiance was very pleasant, a blend of elegance and tradition. Fine food and excellent service. We would be happy to return.

Another review: Our visit to the beer garden on August 10, 2025 was unfortunately disappointing. The otherwise delicious schnitzel with fries was totally bland, the breading was soft and soggy, and the fries were fried like they were the second time. The sausage salad was also far too bland and dry. The head waitress... she should stop reprimanding and lecturing the guests. What a pity... The Jagdhaus has the most beautiful beer garden for miles around!!! You sit there so comfortably and linger in complete relaxation. The food is plentiful and very good. The service, except for one "older gentleman," is very friendly and attentive. Everything goes very quickly, despite the large number of guests. We'll gladly come back again and again. ;-)

Unfortunately, the waiter was very snippy and unfriendly. I understand that he was responsible for far too many tables on his own – but that's not the customer's fault. Unfortunately, he didn't calm down over the course of the afternoon. The same thing happened to the table next door shortly afterward. Unfortunately, the beer didn't arrive until we'd already finished eating. That's unacceptable. It's a shame, because the food was truly amazing.

Simply well maintained and good

The Jagdhaus delivers 100% on its promise. In addition to truly outstanding service, we had fantastic food! From now on, the Jagdhaus is on our must-eat list for our next visit to Oberstdorf.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my visit. The food was okay, but not top-notch, as one might expect given the high prices. The bread was more soggy than crispy, and the potato salad was mushy and probably came from a bucket. The schnitzel was very thin and consisted mostly of breadcrumbs. The portions were more suitable for seniors than for hungry hikers.

Great atmosphere, very nice service, good food

The root vegetables consisted of three small pieces of carrot and countless diced potatoes floating in the sauce. Potatoes are NOT root vegetables, and what's the point? They came with potato dumplings. Either the name on the menu or the side dish should be changed.

We've been there twice in one week. Highly recommended. The best is the Königsschmarn (pancake with smoky apricots) for dessert. The service staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Very cozy and pleasant atmosphere! We sat outside and enjoyed apple strudel, bottled water, and beer. The price was a bit high, and there were too many raisins in the strudel—but we'd be happy to come back!

Delicious, not-so-cheap good cuisine in a special setting

We chose this restaurant for dinner during our hiking holiday, not least because of the Google reviews. It was busy, and luckily we managed to get a seat in the beer garden without a reservation. The food and service were good. The portion sizes were modest, but the prices were high.

There were four of us there and we were looking forward to a cozy evening. The menu is concise, but chic and good. Upon request, we were given a children's menu. When ordering, the children were served spritzer instead of juice, but this was replaced upon request. It can happen, no big deal. The venison goulash with dumplings tasted okay, but unfortunately, it arrived only lukewarm, and the dumplings were quite soft. We ordered the "giant portion" of pancakes from the children's menu for our children – at €12 (similar to a schnitzel with fries), we were expecting a main course. However, we were served a single crêpe (not a pancake). Unfortunately, it wasn't "giant" either – it was very disappointing. Overall, the visit wasn't what we had hoped for. We wouldn't recommend the restaurant for families.

A wonderful restaurant with a fantastic beer garden. The perfect cuisine and great beer to go with it. Simply perfect!

Yes if the waiter is not overworked

We went to the beer garden. It's a nice place to sit, mostly in the shade under an umbrella. You can, of course, have a beer. As is the case elsewhere in Oberstdorf, they don't dare break the €5 barrier. A half-liter costs 4.90. The food is okay. Vegetables are largely nonexistent. There aren't even any garnishes. So, two schnitzels and fries on the plate. That's it. Nothing to go with the venison stew either: no leaves, no cranberries. It looks a bit pathetic. Hence only 3 stars. It's not the service's fault; it was friendly and quick.

It's been a long time since I've eaten this well! As soon as you enter this stylishly decorated restaurant, you can tell that the heart and soul of the place has gone into it. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and perfectly matches its name – rustic, but with its own twist. A beautiful restaurant that immediately creates a feel-good atmosphere. From a culinary perspective, "Das Jagdthaus" is a true experience. From the appetizer to the dessert, everything was intensely flavorful, finely seasoned, and prepared with attention to detail. The kitchen conjures up classic dishes of the highest quality. Locally sourced ingredients are also used – a fantastic concept that's sure to impress. The prices are a bit high, but rightly so! The quality, service, and the harmonious overall experience fully justify this. Anyone who appreciates good food will more than get their money's worth here. I'd love to return – and soon!

It was our first time at the Jagdhaus. When we arrived, the lunch rush was over, and it was noticeable throughout the beer garden. Dishes and glasses everywhere. Okay, it was a holiday and the Corpus Christi procession. It was busy. The two waitresses were very attentive, but as we later found out, it was their first time on duty. Respect for that. We opted for the schnitzel with potato salad from the daily special for €17. Unfortunately, the roast on the extra menu was sold out, as it was from the day before. We also ordered a side salad for €5.80. The food was delicious! The salad was okay, but boring. No cucumber or tomatoes. Oh well. When the bill came, we were surprised. Why was the schnitzel suddenly €22.50? When we asked, we were told that this offer was only for guests who had participated in the Corpus Christi procession. 😩 Well, we felt a bit ripped off. We cycled 60 km and deserved a schnitzel. What a shame 🧐 In my opinion, there are better places in Oberstdorf.

Great atmosphere with even better service. The service was very attentive, and all the recommendations were top-notch. They have high chairs and art supplies. The food is very, very good, and everything is fresh and very well-cooked. I recommend the goulash; it's tender as butter and a dream. We'll definitely be back ❤️

We were in the beer garden. Service took a while, and the price of the Königsgsschmarrn should be reconsidered. At that price, the plate should at least be well filled.

Once again, the food was excellent and the service was very friendly. It's also worth mentioning that the kitchen doesn't close at 2 p.m. like most restaurants; instead, you can get a hot meal at 3 p.m. or later. I highly recommend the Jagdhaus. For me, it's the best restaurant in Oberstdorf!

Very cozy restaurant with excellent food. The service is outstanding, you feel comfortable from the first moment. There is also a beer garden that invites you to linger in the summer. I ate a beef heart ragout with bread dumplings and it was simply delicious. Would recommend everyone who is in Oberstdorf to eat there, it is definitely worth the price.

Unfortunately, Mr. Fetz didn't live up to the Michelin Guide's recommendation. The venison boiled beef was quite tasty, but the horseradish was unfortunately lacking in flavor. I'm not used to fine dining...

Ok, aber nicht mehr. Bedienung eher distanziert und nicht wirklich herzlich. Essen ok, aber Luft nach oben. Nach meinem Geschmack wurde hier und da mit Fertigprodukten gearbeitet. Es fehlt mir Authentizität und Herzlichkeit, Freude an den Produkten.

We found the food to be mediocre. Before some you could simply expect more for the money. It was relatively sterile. Maybe you want to focus exactly on the meat or what you ordered. We found the taste just so-so. We wouldn't come back.

Excellent food, exemplary service

Since everything was full in the evening, we got there early. Food was great (table beef from venison, trout and spinach dumplings. Unfortunately it was a bit uncomfortable because it was very quiet. Staff was great.

The inn consists of several rustic guest rooms that are reminiscent of a brewery. Unfortunately, we had a group in our room who behaved like they were in a bar, i.e. they were very loud and rowdy. This didn't fit at all with the claim of being an upscale restaurant. The food and drinks were good, the service was friendly and quick. However, because of the company described above, we were unable to enjoy the evening. We cannot recommend the restaurant for gourmets.

The host and the staff were very friendly. I think they're also trying to focus on upscale gastronomy here. The food is good but there is still room for improvement. Overall, it's complaining on a high level from me. Unfortunately the dumpling wasn't cooked through and the horseradish sauce was very thick but didn't contain much horseradish. So just work on it. The atmosphere is cozy and the drinks are great.

The first impression, a cozy room, reservation difficult, seems to be sought after. The wine list, purely German, ends at 75 euros for a red wine. Brutally regional: This is called carpaccio with a very sour herbal vinegar instead of balsamic vinegar and parmesan. Lamb's lettuce receives the same treatment. Whether the quality of the meat is right remains a secret. The saddle of chamois is much too raw. You are also not asked for a degree of doneness, The curd dumplings were soft and flaky, and the regional pear sorbet met expectations

We had a wonderful day with the family and were really looking forward to a nice meal. We chose one of the supposedly very good restaurants in Oberstdorf. We have never eaten so badly in the Allgäu for so much money. The preparation took a relatively long time, even though the restaurant was almost empty. We believed in a fresh preparation and waited patiently. We hardly saw any service during that time. What was served next was shocking. Venison goulash with a small dumpling and about three tablespoons of meat with sauce, no garnish (please don't use the pictures on the Internet as a guide when ordering). Price for this is 29.00 euros. Fish soup with indefinable brown sauce on bread dumplings🫣. Subterranean in taste. Schnitzel with old croquettes, loveless, without garnish, very greasy. Sauerbraten with breadcrumbs, prepared in old fat, sauce very over-seasoned because it has been greatly reduced, with a dumpling for the price of 32.00 euros. Spinach dumplings with a dense cheese topping, too much cheese, none Green leaf, garnish, eaten worlds better in many alpine huts for less money. All in all we spent a lot of money satisfied our hunger with very mediocre food. Actually, this stay in the hunting lodge spoiled our beautiful day in Oberstdorf. The cook had no understanding of objections. “He would always do it like that, was his comment.” That was the crowning achievement. 🤔

We sat there this evening and everything was delicious. The service is very good. We were served quickly and the food was brought to the table at the same time. Every wish was fulfilled. We then called a taxi from the cellar and it arrived very quickly. We are very satisfied and will definitely come by again.

You can eat really well here, the atmosphere is rustic but very well maintained. The kitchen offers the usual delicacies at a decent level but also one or two fine specialties. The service was good but since it was very busy when we were there it was a bit hectic. The prices are reasonable.

We spent a lovely evening here. Smaller but high quality food selection. Friendly service. The onion roast with Kässpätzle was a poem! We were a group of 12 people, which is why we sat in the upstairs dining room. What should be highlighted is the very friendly contact when making reservations in order to meet the needs of our group! An extra star for that. Recommendation!

Best food, only regional including the spices...great experience and it was always very, very tasty

Waren vor einem Jahr da, alles Top! Leider hat das Restaurant sehr abgebaut. Einfach viel zu lange Wartezeiten sowohl bei der Getränkebestellung als auch auf die Wartezeit bis das Essen serviert wird. Eine Weinberatung gab es auch nicht durch den Kellner. Manchmal wird man auch einfach ignoriert. Als das Essen kam war unter anderem der Knödel meines Mannes innendrin noch fast gefroren. Wir ließen das Essen zurückgehen und mein Mann musste dann später alleine essen, da wir ja schon lange fertig waren. Von einer Entschuldigung war nichts zu hören. Die Krönung war dann am Ende als "NUR" mein von dem Kellner als Entschädigung einen Schnaps (welcher es war konnte er uns leider nicht sagen) bekommen haben. Wir anderen 3 sollten in die Röhre schauen. Wir werden definitiv nicht mehr dieses angeblich "etwas" bessere Restaurant mehr besuchen. Dafür ist es viel zu teuer und das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt nicht.

Despite the Four Hills Tour, we got a table that same evening. The service was a dream, the food was outstanding. There is a cozy atmosphere in the restaurant. Absolute recommendation! The Kaiserschmarrn was an absolute culinary delight.

No pork food. It's all a system of upscale gastronomy that tries too hard for me. I'm not a fan of game or cow, so it was difficult for me to find a dish. My wife really enjoyed it, hence 3 stars.

Tolle Speisekarte die mehr bietet als den üblichen touristischen Einheitsbrei. Das beste Beuscherl außerhalb Österreich. Etwas kleinlich allerdings der Aufpreis von 1,50€ für eine homöopathische Portion Bratkartoffeln statt Knödel die sehr lecker waren. Fleischpflanzerl mit Käsespätzle ein Gedicht. Das gereichte Brot hätte frischer ausfallen können. Sehr aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service.

Guten Abend weiß kar nicht wo ich anfangen soll. Das Essen war sehr knapp gehalten . Ich hatte Hirschgulasch wo ein Stück Leber drin war und zur guter letzt auch noch ein schwarzes Haar . Und die Bedienung war sehr unfreundlich. Mein Freund hatte Trinkgeld geben wollen wo ihm das Trinkgeld zu wenig war . Und der gute Mann sagte das hat er nicht nötig . Glaube mehr muß man nicht Sagen .

Nachdem wir im Käseladen gefragt haben wo man hier gut essen gehen kann und man uns ins Jagdhaus geschickt hat, wurden wir in keinster Art und Weise enttäuscht. Nach einem kleinen Gruß aus der Küche bekamen wir unser bestelltes Hirschgulasch und die Käsespaetzle mit Salat. Und beides war hervorragend regional und superfrisch. Bisher die besten Kaesespaetzle, die ich hier gegessen habe und auch ein Salat, der wie frisch aus dem Garten geschmeckt hat. Das Hirschgulasch und die Sosse ein Traeumchen. Es war alles sehr schön und sehr sehr schmackhaft. Preis Leistung stimmte.

Most beautiful beer garden in Oberstdorf

It was a lovely evening in a very nice, well-kept restaurant! The friendly staff at reception was very nice and accommodating. We didn't have a reservation and still got a place, which is not a given on Sunday evenings in the high season. Conclusion: we will definitely come back! The salad as a starter is fine, green mix - with sprouts and very tasty vinaigrette. Then fresh chanterelles with dumplings - a visual and culinary delight! Plus a nice glass of Pinot Gris...wonderful! The service was attentive and very warm. Thank you for the lovely evening.

Very good food on the first day of vacation Deer capaccio, venison ragout and finally pear sorbet with Williams.

Fantastic concept: from the cola to the schnitzel, everything is regional. That means: You won't find Coca Cola or a Primitivo on the menu any more than you'll find a Kobe beef. Simply everything comes from the region, has a short journey behind it and for the visitors who like to experiment, there is liver, kidneys and other offal masterfully prepared thanks to the holistic use of the animal. There is also a good vegetarian offering. Pro tip in summer: the beer garden with small dishes.

For years we have started our Oberstdorf vacation with a nice dinner on the terrace of the hunting lodge above the beer garden. Today we decided on the Munich schnitzel with Krenn and potato salad. The perfect choice! Schnitzel was great and I have never eaten such a delicious potato salad without any frills! Service was also great! Thanks! We will come back!

Here again. This time without food. Everything's fine. But requiring a minimum amount of 20 euros for contactless payments is not up to date. The service deduction therefore relates exclusively to a service that was not provided.

Unfortunately, two online table reservations were not honored and answered. The rating therefore refers exclusively to this. In my opinion, the service in a restaurant that presents itself as stylish and upscale should start with the table reservation. Anything else probably doesn't live up to the claim you've made yourself.

The hunting lodge has a beautiful beer garden where you can sit away from the hustle and bustle. I ordered a Munich-style schnitzel with fries, which came with absolutely no decoration or salad and still cost a whopping €18. My request for lemon was arrogantly dismissed because that was what it said on the menu. I was told that there were no tropical fruits for ecological reasons and to keep CO2 emissions low. The lemon was invented in the 10th century. brought to Italy after Christ and has always been found in northern Italy. Northern Italy is a logistical lemon's throw away, which is why I don't understand the arguments. Well, maybe it's just a few more decades of climate change and the lemon tree will keep your local (patriotism) refreshing company.

We had cheese spaetzle and schnitzel “Munich style” with potato salad. The cheese spaetzle was good, but could have been a little spicier for our taste. The schnitzel, on the other hand, was super tasty and the potato salad was the best we've ever eaten! Really kudos to the kitchen!! The service was also great. Everything went super quickly and the waitresses were all very friendly and attentive. We sat in the beer garden and were happy with the ambience. The fairy lights were very nice and the fact that the kitchen is outside is a cool gadget. All in all, we were very satisfied and are looking forward to our next visit to the hunting lodge!
