A small but fine restaurant with excellent food! It's always very busy; you really have to be lucky to get a table. That says a lot. Here, the sauce is still made from bones and vegetables, not with ready-made products – you can taste it! The owner is, of course, also a brand. Very friendly and humorous, always has a funny saying ready. Definitely recommend it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We were here for the first time in 1996, and nothing (for the worse) has changed since then! The friendly host, the "really good" food, the quick and great service, and the funny sayings! We can only say: THANK YOU WALTER! It's a shame we were only in Zwiesel for a short time this year, but we'll be back! Nothing has changed in 2025 either! The owner of the Dampfbräu is truly a character – a textbook innkeeper: warm, humorous, and genuinely passionate about his guests. From the moment you enter, you sense the rustic coziness typical of a real inn. The food? Outstanding! The best Bavarian cuisine I've had the pleasure of enjoying in a long time – authentic, flavorful, and served in generous portions. A delight from the first to the last forkful. What was particularly nice: In addition to the excellent food and the relaxed atmosphere, we also learned a bit about Franconian history – the owner had fascinating anecdotes to share, making the evening even more special. A perfect stay – we'll definitely be back!

We were there for dinner. All the tables were taken. We had a reservation. Our dog was allowed. Despite the limited space, the service was excellent; the chef was cheerful and authentic; we had a wonderful time. The food was of the highest quality and perfectly prepared. The portions were enormous. The roast was so rich with sauce that you'd have to drop to your knees. The schnitzel barely fit on the plate. We were very satisfied. Five well-deserved stars for the delicious food and the lovely evening. We'll definitely be back.

We were here on a short vacation. We didn't have a reservation, but we got a table. The restaurant, or rather our seat (right by the entrance), seemed dingy. Cobwebs, including the residents, and the windows apparently hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. The food was okay and the portions were good. Unfortunately, the sight of the dingy corner spoiled my appetite for dessert. (We ended up having it somewhere else.) The owner: grumpy and not very fond of women. Maybe that's his style. But he didn't seem likeable. The waitress, on the other hand, was nice. Still, I wouldn't go here again.

Here you can still get traditional, handcrafted food without flavor enhancers or packet powder. You can taste and see that the sauces have been drawn from the bone, that everything has been slowly braised. Meat is tender, sauces taste great, the sauerkraut was very tasty, as were the dumplings. The guest room and the sanitary facilities were clean and well maintained. The guest room is not too big, decorated in a rustic Bavarian style and the innkeeper has a sense of humor and lots of sayings that make you smile. Price-performance ratio absolutely fine. We would definitely come back!

The Dampfbräu is the best restaurant for us in the Bavarian Forest. Unfortunately, we don't remember what year our first visit was, it doesn't matter, we've been coming by sporadically for many years and were there again for dinner from February 28, 2025 to March 3, 2025. The food is amazing, so delicious and has been going on for decades, just fantastic. You would have to be able to stay longer to enjoy all the dishes. We particularly recommend the liver dumpling soup, the roast beef and the steam beer goulash. No, the wild boar roll roast also needs to be mentioned. However, there is also the very best Bavarian Forest schnitzel in the world. But you should also be hungry, the portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Because of the positive reviews, we decided on this restaurant in the evening and were a bit disappointed. It's more like a pub than a restaurant. You can clearly feel that dogs are not welcome. It is not enough that it just lies next to the table but must be underneath it. Then it's better to clearly communicate that dogs are not allowed. The food was OK. But we wouldn't come again.

Shameless owner and bad food - never again! We were looking forward to a lovely evening, but this visit was a complete disappointment. The owner was incredibly rude and unfriendly. Instead of answering our questions politely, we were treated condescendingly. I've never experienced anything like this! About the food: The roast was completely dry and barely edible, the side dishes were bland and tasteless. The prices are a disgrace for the quality. If you value good service and delicious food, you should definitely avoid this shop!

Small, very cozy guesthouse in Zwiesel with around 30 places. Excellent food. Wild boar, steam beer goulash with bread dumplings, crusted roast and Kaisersmarrn. Everything sucks. I found the children's menu particularly positive and the fact that some dishes also come in small portions. There are also salads, cheese patties, etc. that vegetarians are happy with. Three main courses, 2 desserts and 5 drinks for 80€ - absolutely fine. And great hosts. Will definitely visit again.

Super tasty food, even for vegetarians, often with parmesan, but you can cancel it. The ambience is of course a matter of opinion, definitely rustic. The owner is of course a brand in himself, you have to like him, I think he's great! The employees are okay, people often ask questions, but they often seem annoyed and don't really fit in as far as their type is concerned.

We spent three days in Bavaria and had dinner there twice. Everything was perfect, food, ambience and service and especially the boss, who sometimes served and sometimes cooked himself. I had the pleasure of eating deer twice. The second time the boss just created a new sauce for the deer, chocolate/chilli, it was the best deer I've ever eaten. The cheese spaetzle and the pork fillet are also highly recommended. It's a shame that we live so far away, we come from North Rhine-Westphalia, otherwise we would come back at any time.

We have been to the Dampfbräu in Zwiesel many times. Most recently on September 13th and 14th, 2024. Food and service are always very good. I had Bavarian forest mushroom once and then the crusted brisket. Each one is a pleasure. It's a shame that mothers whose children are almost whiny throughout their stay then claim in a review that children's laughter is not welcome. (@Leonie Rau) had nothing to do with children's laughter. We sat at the back of the restaurant and heard everything. I can only recommend the Dampfbräu with its communicative, honest host.

A wonderfully rustic restaurant in which the unique Bavarian innkeeper serves himself and has the right information or saying for everyone. Even Low German flies in your face after a hearty morning 😁 We felt very comfortable and welcome there and the advertised, freshly prepared roast pork was better than sauguad! The ravioli with mushroom filling also tasted excellent. Well-seasoned sauce, homemade dumplings, heavenly crispy crust from the otherwise juicy and tender meat... what more could you want? Our conclusion: very happy again!

Unfortunately not recommended with smaller children! When they came in, the two of them were immediately instructed to be quiet and the whole time they were looked at evilly as children laughed. When we left, a "I'll be glad when you're gone again" didn't make things any better. It's a real shame, because I really enjoyed it and the landlord was very nice to us adults.

Food was really good. The innkeeper has his own kind of humor but if you don't go into the cellar to laugh, you can laugh heartily at his jokes. He has his restaurant well under control and we felt very comfortable. We can fully recommend the Dampfbräu.

Little Bavarian. Tavern on the town square. The landlord has his own sense of humor that takes some getting used to, but is friendly. A manageable menu with classic local dishes. We chose the steam beer goulash and a salad plate with salmon. The goulash was fantastic. The meat is soft but firm to the bite, the sauce is creamy and has an excellent taste that cannot be described. Plus two bread dumplings and, in my case, a well-tempered dark steam beer. Heart, what more do you want. The salad was mixed, plenty large with steamed salmon that wasn't dry. We didn't particularly like the atmosphere in the restaurant so we ate outside. If you want to eat a perfect goulash, you can't miss this restaurant when visiting Zwiesel. The kitchen is absolutely recommended!!!

Rustic Bavarian restaurant with its original innkeeper We all had an excellent meal - everything was fresh and there was no sauce - here they still cook properly and serve it in an appealing way Staff very friendly and attentive, definitely recommended

The visit to Dampfbräu was last summer. The owner was rude, disrespectful and his comments were inappropriate. The food wasn't anything special and he himself described the dishes as "tourist platters". Just because we speak standard German doesn't mean we come from far away. He rubbed it under our noses over and over again, which of course ruined our appetite all the more. Good advice: focus less on appearances and dialect.

Unfortunately it was closed. But the entrance looks inviting.
