Wir waren zu zweit spontan in diesem traditionellen Wirtshaus und hatten das Glück, noch einen Platz draußen zu bekommen. Trotz des vollen Hauses und des offensichtlich hohen Andrangs wurden wir vom Inhaber äußerst freundlich und mit viel Humor begrüßt. Man hat sich sofort willkommen gefühlt. Das Bier war hervorragend und das Essen einfach fantastisch. Besonders begeistert hat uns, dass es auch kleinere Portionen gibt – gerade für ältere Gäste eine tolle Möglichkeit, die hervorragende Küche zu genießen, ohne dass zu viel auf dem Teller landet. Der Krustenbraten war mit Abstand der beste, den ich seit langer Zeit gegessen habe: perfekt zubereitet, unglaublich lecker und absolut empfehlenswert. Ein rundum gelungener Besuch mit herzlicher Gastfreundschaft, gutem Essen und gemütlicher Atmosphäre. Wenn wir wieder einmal in den Bayerischen Wald kommen, kehren wir ganz bestimmt gerne wieder ein!

Moderne Küche geht anders...hier wird noch auf die alte Art gekocht... Kartoffeln und Spätzle sollte man nicht einfärben, sondern natürlich belassen. Schmackhafter ißt man in Zwiesel woanders. Preis-Leistung Verhältnis in Ordnung.

Wir sind wir gleich zweimal in unserem Urlaub Essen gewesen. Tolles kleines schnuckeliges uriges Lokal mit einem hervorragenden Inhaber. Das Essen war sehr lecker und hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt und das Preis-leistungsverhältnis passt. Der Inhaber hat immer einen frechen Spruch auf Lager, das mag nicht jedermanns Sache sein, aber uns hat es gut unterhalten und wir hatten jede Menge Spaß. Und das trotz des sichtlichen Personalmangel. Wir können das Dampfbräu auf jeden Fall empfehlen, für jeden, der richtig Lust auf gutes bayerisches Essen hat. Von uns ganz klar. Fünf Sterne. Das Essen war gut bis sehr gut. Nicht ganz so gut, wie der Wirt von sich selbst überzeugt ist, aber gut genug. Ein Knaller ist allerdings 5,50 für eine 0,33 Flasche Cola. Das ist dann auch für notleidende deutsche Gastronomen etwas großzügig bemessen.

Wir waren zwei Abende nacheinander da, weil es uns (2 Pärchen; 55+ Jahre) ausgezeichnet gefallen hat. Die Karte ist nicht sehr umfangreich, jedoch haben wir diverse Speisen ausprobiert und genossen. Besonders hervorragend waren die Käsespätzle (EUR 8,90; gute Portion und lecker), die Leberknödelsuppe und als Hauptspeisen das Rindsgulasch, die Schnitzel mit den verschiedensten selbst gemachten Beilagen, der Schweinebraten und auch der Salat mit den Filetspitzen. Hier bedient der Chef noch selbst und unterhält positiv mit seinen witzigen Sprüchen das gesamte Lokal. Wir kommen gerne wieder in das Dampfbräu und trinken das Dampfbier (aber auch das normale Bier).

Wer richtig gut bayrisch essen will, ist hier genau richtig. Der Chef kocht selbst, vor allem richtig gute Soßen. Da kommt nichts aus dem "Packerl". Es gibt bei mehreren Gerichten auch eine kleinere Portion, wobei diese auch durchaus üppig ausfallen. Fazit: Eine gemütliche Wirtschaft mit sehr gutem Essen.

As rustic and down-to-earth as you'd expect from a Bavarian inn! Wild boar schnitzel with homemade spaetzle! Absolutely fantastic! A bread roll or something similar could have been served with the large salad platter with salmon… But otherwise: thumbs up! Don't miss the steam beer and the bloodroot schnapps. The highlight: the innkeeper is always ready with a joke – good times are guaranteed!

A small, rustic restaurant with a cheerful host. We ordered roast pork with crackling, as well as a small salad. The salad more than exceeded our expectations, featuring a fresh leaf salad with a delicately balanced house dressing. The roast pork with crackling was delicious. Definitely a recommendation for good regional food. The selection isn't that large, but the food is exceptionally good. We had liver dumpling soup, cheese spaetzle, mushroom ragout with dumplings, and Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancakes). Everything was delicious and homemade. Another specialty is the steamed beer goulash. The recommended drink is the homemade steamed beer from Zwiesel, a regional specialty. Various liqueurs in 2-5 cl glasses are also recommended. The prices are reasonable. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and otherwise serves hot meals from 5:30 p.m. to around 8:30 p.m. The staff is attentive and cheerful; the chef himself serves and always has a good joke on his lips. There's room for one or two larger groups in the back, or there are tables for four inside and a few outside. You should reserve a table before 8 p.m. or call ahead. There are a few parking spaces along the street in front of the restaurant and several hidden parking spaces when approaching from the back of the restaurant.

A really lovely little inn. It's best to reserve a table in advance, though. The decor is rustic and incredibly cozy. The food is a 5/5. You can tell the love is put into the cooking here. The portions were really generous, and the prices were absolutely reasonable. The innkeeper himself is always up for a bit of fun and really enjoys his work. If we're ever in the area again, we'd definitely come back. If they serve a small side salad, then it'll get a full 5 stars. And always remember... There's no such thing as "LECKER" in Bavaria, only "Sau guard" (a good meal).

Went on holiday with Walter in Zwiesel again. The Leberködel starter soup was fantastic! His crispy (or crispy) roast pork with dumplings is simply iconic. Just like Walter himself, a true innkeeper. An institution. It's great that they also serve small portions. On our second visit this year, I had Walter's steamed beer goulash for the first time. Here, too, a wonderfully rich sauce with a real punch and meat that could be pulled apart with a fork. Great taste, the man knows his stuff. The beer was great, as always there. The wild berry schnapps is also recommended. Walter knows how to make it!

Walk in and feel at home, assuming you get a seat. A true Bavarian pub where proper cooking is still done. The food selection is very hearty, as is typical in this region, and the portions are more than adequate. We ate there three times during our one-week vacation. Nothing more needs to be said. The host is a real character and always ready with a good joke or a lighthearted remark. The value for money is more than adequate. We'll definitely go there again for dinner if we ever find ourselves in Zwiesel again. Our recommendation: make a reservation! Otherwise, it might be crowded.

A small, cozy restaurant, highly recommended. We were lucky to be able to join a nice couple. Reservations are safer. The food is excellent; I had one, or rather three, wild boar schnitzels in a delicious herb breading with cranberry and mushroom sauce and spaetzle, while my husband had a large schnitzel with creamy mushroom sauce and spaetzle. We were delighted; it was very delicious and highly recommended. Average value for money.

We're currently on vacation in Zwiesel. Our internet research brought us to the Dampfbräu. The drinks only took a few minutes to arrive, and the food arrived ten minutes after ordering. Unfortunately, they only had one roast pork (we had eaten at 7:30) left and were out of Wilde Berry (schnapps). The manager recommended a different schnapps to my fiancée, which she really liked. Unfortunately, he first brought it with flies in it, but apologized and immediately brought a new one. Unfortunately, we had to wait 20 minutes or more for the bill. That was a bit annoying. Still, I highly recommend it.

We stumbled upon Dampfbräu by chance today. The food was incredibly delicious, the staff incredibly friendly, and the portions generous. The chef himself came out and chatted with us. You don't see that very often these days. The prices are great. They cook from scratch, nothing buys ready-made, and you can taste it. The sauces are quite thick and incredibly delicious. I had the goulash with steamed beer sauce. I hadn't eaten anything as delicious as that all holiday. The Bärwurz sauce is also incredibly tasty, and you can really taste the Bärwurz. All in all, it's excellent and highly recommended.

A very quaint restaurant with an even quainter owner. Authentic Bavarian country cooking, no frills. I had fried dumplings with bacon and egg – delicious! A huge portion of grated dumplings and sliced bread dumplings, fried with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon cubes. The steamed beer was delicious with it.

On our last day of vacation we got a table there and didn't regret it. I had the crusted roast, my wife a schnitzel and the child the dumplings with sauce. The child's portion of dumplings was 2 mixed ones. My child ate 4 because they were simply delicious. My wife says she has never eaten such a delicious schnitzel with mushroom sauce in the area, which also included plenty of mushrooms. The crusted roast was a dream. I've never made it so well myself. For dessert we shared a Kaiserschmarrn and an ice cream sundae. Here too we ate the best Kaiserschmarrn and we go to a lot of restaurants. The delicious sauce that went with the dishes and (as strange as it may sound) the salad dressing were particularly noteworthy. 👌 You have a very good cook and they keep it that way!! The chef served himself and did a simply fantastic job. I also recommended the restaurant in the vacation accommodation.

A small but fine restaurant with excellent food! It's always very busy; you really have to be lucky to get a table. That says a lot. Here, the sauce is still made from bones and vegetables, not with ready-made products – you can taste it! The owner is, of course, also a brand. The owner of the Dampfbräu is truly a character – a textbook innkeeper: warm, humorous, and genuinely passionate about his guests. From the moment you enter, you sense the rustic coziness typical of a real inn. The food? Outstanding! The best Bavarian cuisine I've had the pleasure of enjoying in a long time – authentic, flavorful, and served in generous portions. A delight from the first to the last forkful. What was particularly nice: In addition to the excellent food and the relaxed atmosphere, we also learned a bit about Franconian history – the owner had fascinating anecdotes to share, making the evening even more special. A perfect stay – we'll definitely be back!

We were there for dinner. All the tables were taken. We had a reservation. Our dog was allowed. Despite the limited space, the service was excellent; the chef was cheerful and authentic; we had a wonderful time. The food was of the highest quality and perfectly prepared. The portions were enormous. The roast was so rich with sauce that you'd have to drop to your knees. The schnitzel barely fit on the plate. We were very satisfied. Five well-deserved stars for the delicious food and the lovely evening. We'll definitely be back.

We were here on a short vacation. We didn't have a reservation, but we got a table. The restaurant, or rather our seat (right by the entrance), seemed dingy. Cobwebs, including the residents, and the windows apparently hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. The food was okay and the portions were good. Unfortunately, the sight of the dingy corner spoiled my appetite for dessert. (We ended up having it somewhere else.) The owner: grumpy and not very fond of women. Maybe that's his style. But he didn't seem likeable. The waitress, on the other hand, was nice. Still, I wouldn't go here again.

You can taste and see that the sauces have been drawn from the bone, that everything has been slowly braised. Meat is tender, sauces taste great, the sauerkraut was very tasty, as were the dumplings. The guest room and the sanitary facilities were clean and well maintained. The guest room is not too big, decorated in a rustic Bavarian style and the innkeeper has a sense of humor and lots of sayings that make you smile. Price-performance ratio absolutely fine. We would definitely come back!

The Dampfbräu is the best restaurant for us in the Bavarian Forest. Unfortunately, we don't remember what year our first visit was, it doesn't matter, we've been coming by sporadically for many years and were there again for dinner from February 28, 2025 to March 3, 2025. The food is amazing, so delicious and has been going on for decades, just fantastic. You would have to be able to stay longer to enjoy all the dishes. We particularly recommend the liver dumpling soup, the roast beef and the steam beer goulash. No, the wild boar roll roast also needs to be mentioned. However, there is also the very best Bavarian Forest schnitzel in the world. But you should also be hungry, the portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Many thanks to Walter for this pleasure and his super friendly manner, and of course also to the entire team. Stay healthy everyone, we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Because of the positive reviews, we decided on this restaurant in the evening and were a bit disappointed. It's more like a pub than a restaurant. You can clearly feel that dogs are not welcome. It is not enough that it just lies next to the table but must be underneath it. Then it's better to clearly communicate that dogs are not allowed. The food was OK. But we wouldn't come again.

The dressing is excellent, made from white balsamic vinegar and mustard. 3. I had the steam beer goulash. What can I say, this was one of the BEST beef goulash I've had so far. Craftsmanship per excellence 👌 4. my wife had the pork schnitzel “Viennese style” with a green pepper and whiskey cream sauce, Very good quality meat, fried in the pan and the sauce is just sauguad. Shameless owner and bad food - never again! We were looking forward to a lovely evening, but this visit was a complete disappointment. The owner was incredibly rude and unfriendly. Instead of answering our questions politely, we were treated condescendingly. I've never experienced anything like this! About the food: The roast was completely dry and barely edible, the side dishes were bland and tasteless. The prices are a disgrace for the quality. If you value good service and delicious food, you should definitely avoid this shop!

Small, very cozy guesthouse in Zwiesel with around 30 places. Excellent food. Wild boar, steam beer goulash with bread dumplings, crusted roast and Kaisersmarrn. Everything sucks. I found the children's menu particularly positive and the fact that some dishes also come in small portions. There are also salads, cheese patties, etc. that vegetarians are happy with. Three main courses, 2 desserts and 5 drinks for 80€ - absolutely fine. And great hosts. Will definitely visit again.

Super tasty food, even for vegetarians, often with parmesan, but you can cancel it. The ambience is of course a matter of opinion, definitely rustic. The owner is of course a brand in himself, you have to like him, I think he's great! Trotz dessen, dass wir sehr spät gekommen sind, wurden wir sehr freundlich empfangen und bedient. Das Essen hat auch sehr gut geschmeckt und unseren Hund durften wir auch mit ins Restaurant nehmen. Alles in allem also ein empfehlenswertes Restaurant in Zwiesel mit italienischen und kroatischen Gerichten.
