Absolutely delicious, pleasant atmosphere, beautiful decorations and friendly staff! We will definitely come back again.

Portion was very small, meat burnt – and for €20 per portion? Definitely not recommended. Waiting time was 1 hour 15 minutes, despite their claim of large portions… Fufu was unseasoned.

We were there last Saturday (luckily we had a reservation) and it was packed. The staff were very attentive and friendly, trying their best to please everyone. However, we had to wait an hour for our food, which was due to staff shortages (there was a sign at the entrance saying "Looking for staff"). The food was delicious. The portions weren't huge, but they were sufficient. The restaurant's ambiance was also lovely—small and cozy. All in all, I think it's a great restaurant. I will definitely go back.

We got there and was refused service. The girl looked at us took about 10 minutes at the back then came out with another person and told us that the kitchen is closed. On the website it says that the restaurant is opened until 00.00. It's the deception that I cannot take. Disappointed and hungry.

Generally speaking, this is a beautifully decorated restaurant with good food. However, the wait for the food is quite long, and the portions aren't particularly large. The food itself is generally well prepared. The taste isn't to everyone's liking, but it will probably be very good for most people. You have to expect it to be a bit spicy, even though it's advertised as mild. In my opinion, the food is a bit expensive for the amount, but not too expensive (which is okay). The staff is friendly.

A very pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, with friendly but unobtrusive service. The restaurant is attractively decorated, and the food is served on beautiful plates. Most importantly, it tastes delicious. The Gega salad (avocado, beetroot, African sweet potato with parsley and a slightly spicy mango dressing) was sensationally good; I'd gladly come back for that alone.

I ate here today and wanted to share my experience. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you feel transported to Ethiopia. The decor is truly wonderful, and the waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was served to the sounds of African music, and it tasted delicious and authentic, just like the food my Ethiopian friends make back home. The portions were generous; of course, there are restaurants that serve up huge plates, but I'm not a fan of that. I much prefer a normal portion that captures the heart and soul of Africa to a mountain of food that tastes like anything else. For me, there's only one rating: 5 stars.

Very delicious food. The larger sharing dishes are particularly recommended. The desserts are also quite substantial. The quality is very good. The restaurant is clean and beautifully decorated. However, the room seems a bit dark (to me). Furthermore, a reservation is definitely necessary, and you should eat early in the evening during the week, if possible, despite the later closing time advertised. The service, however, was very friendly and accommodated special requests (couscous instead of injeera) at no extra charge.

The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly tasty or great either. So it's a bit disappointing. I found it annoying that you can only order "large" (and therefore slightly more expensive) juice spritzers and soft drinks, there were only 0.4 liters, no glasses of 0.2 or 0.3 liters. The decoration of the room is of course a matter of taste - I found the low-hanging shades on the ceiling to be a bit oppressive.

I've always ordered the platters for two, and I highly recommend them. I love the small selection of dishes and the bread that comes with them. It's also just nice to share a meal with someone. The service was very friendly, and you can definitely sit here for a while.

The food was okay, but I've had much better African restaurants. The waitress was alone and not particularly attentive. We had to wait forever before we could even place the order and then another very long time for the drinks and food. In addition, card payments are only possible from €30 onwards. Rounding up and giving tips by card were also not accepted.

Spontaneously reserved, great starters, super tasty meat (lamb and chicken), lots of vegetables, lentils, beans, sourdough flatbread and spicy dips. Absolutely recommended. We'll be back!

We came across the restaurant through the Schlemmerblock and can only warmly recommend it! The food was very tasty and nicely presented, the prices were completely reasonable, we were asked several times if everything was good, the atmosphere was nice and relaxed and informal, it was pleasantly warm and not too crowded. Every now and then we had to wait a little longer for the food, but that gave us a lot of time to talk, which was just good in the cozy environment and slowed down everyday life a bit. We found the dessert (Muchbase) particularly tasty, as did the main courses and starters. In short: we were very satisfied and would happily go back.

So in terms of taste, the food is very good, the coffee is also very tasty and has little to no bitterness and the African (guava) beer was also very, very good and was served in a beautiful hollowed-out and dried fruit bowl. I only have to deduct one star for the portion size, as the portions are quite manageable and (at least for me) it wasn't enough to fill me up. Nevertheless, all in all, the restaurant is highly recommended and we will definitely come back. Next time, I just won't show up there with a completely empty stomach. 😅✌️

It was an absolute surprise! What a great place! When you enter you think you are in Africa! You have to order the traditional coffee so that you understand what coffee actually means! The meal was excellent! A great selection of traditional African dishes! The service was extremely nice and friendly! We'll definitely be back!

Yesterday we ate in Africa for the first time. The conditions were very friendly. All I can say is that the food was delicious. I had the Sambusa with minced meat as a starter. We ordered them again because they were excellent. For the main course I had chicken in peanut sauce and fufu. The sauces were buttery and the fufu was delicious. I also loved the dessert. Dark rice with mango cream. It was a very nice evening in a great atmosphere. We'll be back :)

I was a bit skeptical but I have to say the food was really tasty. Price performance top. If you like spicy dishes, this is the place for you. I also like the food on the large plates. Small criticism, I think the 3 Sambusas are a little overpriced. The highlight is the service, super friendly and accommodating, and the coffee. A must in Africa 👍👍👍💪💪

I go so far away, the food is just so good and if you like African food you should come here. Well seasoned and sufficient portions. The service is sometimes a bit inattentive, they would make a lot more sales if they were more present to see if people wanted to have another drink. But you don't have to wait long for the food. The African coffee was also really great, my friend thought it was very tasty and really something different with the spices. Be sure to eat the chicken with zucchini peanut sauce, it was the best so far. Always happy to come back, clear recommendation 😃

Was a great experience. Food for everyone came on a bowl/plate. Divided so that one person had their food on the left and the other on the right. It seemed like everything was shared. It was my first time there, the food was delicious and well prepared, the African beer (I had the mango version) was served in a hollowed-out pumpkin bowl and tasted really delicious. I ordered chicken in coconut cream sauce with leaf spinach and fufu and would eat it again at any time. The toilets are clean and tidy, the staff is very friendly, card payments were possible and even the gourmet block was accepted.

The service was really very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was also nice. I can't judge whether the dishes/ambience are authentic. Unfortunately the food was... after too little seasoning and the peanut flavor barely came out even though it was supposed to be a peanut sauce. Unfortunately, the appetizer with the dumplings didn't convince us either, as it was just lentils without any spices.

So far we have always eaten well! You have to bring a little more time. With the sand on the ground the ambience was even nicer.

Today in Africa in Mannheim..... simply delicious. Lamb, chicken, spinach, couscous, potatoes, some other vegetables and flatbread. Plus a local beer with mango. We were thrilled.

If we ate there with the Schlemmerblock, or wanted to, we still got the bill at full price, which as a student is hard to afford at over €25 per person. I would never go here again! The food itself was okay but not worth €20...

Great Eritrean restaurant in Mannheim

Food was actually good but the portions are half as much as normal and therefore more expensive. So for €16 you get less than for €12 at other restaurants. And then there was stress when paying because you could only pay in cash and she didn't allow me to leave my ID card to go and get money. So please... if the ID is there then it should work, right? But well I personally wouldn't recommend it. Still nicely furnished. Oh yes, and the service then became unfriendly.

Had to wait an hour for food and then the food wasn't that good either. Conditions were generally not very friendly and they didn't want to accept the gourmet block. Price-performance ratio wasn't good either.

Unfortunately very disappointing... The service is extremely slow, so you have to wait 20 minutes for the drinks even though the restaurant wasn't really full. Then another hour or more for the food. Unfortunately, this wasn't a good meal either and reminded us more of blubbery spinach than an authentic meal. Unfortunately, we were also treated extremely unfriendly when paying. We weren't the only guests that evening who were dissatisfied with their choice of restaurant...Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it under any circumstances.

Really great value for money. Delicious food, good portions and not expensive at all. We were also served very friendly. The ambience is okay... some nice decoration, but there is a deduction for the old floors, tables and chairs. There is also a bit of a “smoking bar smell” in the air. Overall recommended, we would like to come back.

We wanted to try something new and the gourmet block led us here. The atmosphere is nice, the service is super nice and friendly. As a starter we chose the filled dumplings with minced meat or lentils and as the main course we chose the African tasting plate No. 47 and fried chicken No. 38 You can choose the food from mild to very spicy in 4 levels. We tried mild at first but since we'll definitely come again, I'll choose medium hot next time. Price performance ratio good. We didn't even try to park on site but parked in the car park at the bus station and walked a leisurely 10 minutes to the restaurant.

It was our first time but not our last time here. The recommendation came to us via Schlemmerblock. It was a great experience. We had a lot of fun and a really great meal. If you want to eat authentically African food, this is definitely the right place for you. The decoration is very nice and the staff are very friendly. A very small drawback is that we more or less had to ask the employees to bring us one or two things if we wanted to reorder something. But as the saying goes, these are deductions from the B grade and are not a big deal. I still think it's very nice and I'm looking forward to eating here again.

We were there today with the gourmet block. Nice service, good atmosphere, unfortunately we were the only guests. Music was playing. The food was very tasty and we received a very nice welcome despite the block. The portion was good and you were full. You can order different levels of spiciness. I then ordered dessert, which was also very tasty. Will come again without block.

Have 31, 38, and 67 and each meal was a smooth 11/10. Portions very large and starters very adequate, nice staff. I would drive here again from Dresden just for that!

Simply bad, it started when the gourmet block was rejected, we ordered the sheets for 3 people and one person a dish, the dish was forgotten, since we waited an hour for the platter, the four of us then ate the platter. It wasn't tasty, the meat was tough... the atmosphere wasn't inviting either... ended up paying 110 euros and then went straight to L'Osteria...

Since we really had to wait forever (over an hour when we asked) for our food, we left without having accomplished anything🤷🏽‍♀️

A visit is always worth it. I was there again after 10 years and was just as satisfied.

Had something to eat here a few weeks ago, we hadn't had African food before. The food is okay, but it lacked some spice. Probably everyone is sharpening their skills a bit. When it comes to service, we are not sure whether the waitress is on the one hand serving and on the other hand the kitchen is also involved. Because we had to wait a really long time for the food. Nevertheless, the service tried hard. The food is similar to Indian, but lacks a bit of pizzazz.

In itself a nice restaurant and delicious food. However, if you have to wait around 30 minutes for the drink and then a total of over 70 minutes for the food you ordered with only one other group in the entire restaurant and therefore 6 guests to be served, that's more than a shame. If you're too hungry, this might not be the right place for you. If you have a lot of time, ok.

A very nice girl served us, she was friendly and asked several times whether we liked everything or whether we would like something else. Very hospitable, clean restaurant and great food! Unfortunately, the atmosphere was completely different than described on the homepage. Some tables were very dark, you could only read the menu with the flashlight on your cell phone. The friendliness of the service left a lot to be desired. (There were 8 people with a gourmet block, maybe that was the reason 🤷🏻‍♀️) Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for the food. I had chicken, so it said on the menu that it ended up being 2 chicken legs, I wasn't aware of it and I wouldn't have ordered that either. You should write a note about it, because not everyone likes that. Some of the dishes weren't very big. If you eat a lot, you won't really feel full.

Sehr nettes Personal. Von außen sieht das Restaurant eher unscheinbar aus inmitten der Mannheimer Straßen, von innen ist es schön und gemütlich dekoriert. Das Essen schmeckt mega und die Portionen sind groß. Auch positiv ist die Auswahl für Veganer.

Sehr leckeres Essen, auf Sonderwünsche wird eingegangen. Sehr schöne Atmosphäre und sehr nette Bedienung. Hier gibt es für jeden etwas. Der afrikanische Kaffee ist absolut zu empfehlen 👍🏻Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Die Vorspeise waren mega lecker und der Hauptgang abwechslungsreiche von vegetarischen Speisen bis zu Fleisch Gerichten sah nicht nur bezaubernd aus sondern war mega lecker. Der Abend war im großen und ganzen mega erfolgreich, auf meine Wünsche wurde eingegangen und dann auch noch super Empfehlung. Ich werde aufjedenfall wiederkommen und sie weiterempfehlen. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet. Lecker und mengenmäßig, im Gegensatz zu manchen Bewertungen, für uns total ausreichend. Der Service war zuvorkommend und zügig. Auch hier können wir nichts negatives sagen. Außer, dass ein Gericht "ausverkauft" war. Es handelte sich um eine "Probierplatte" mit verschiedenen Gerichten. Keine Ahnung was nicht mehr verfügbar wird war, aber da es sich um ein Probierplatte handelte, wäre es niemandem aufgefallen, wenn etwas gefehlt hätte. Zum Ambiente: hier mein großer Kritikpunkt. Auf der Internetseite wird einem ein Ambiente gezeigt, welches es NICHT gibt. Wir freuten uns auf Sitzkissen im Sand, bunte Farben und warmes Licht. Das Restaurant ist gefliest und hat ganz normale Tische und Stühle. Alles kein Problem, wären wir nicht mit falschen Vorstellungen ins Restaurant gegangen. Außerdem lässt das Lichtkonzept zu wünschen übrig. Durch die dunklen Wände wurde das Wandlicht nicht gestreut. Die Lampen waren einfach punktuell zu grell, haben keine Stimmung verbreitet und taten fast in den Augen weh. Wenigsten war die Betondecke schön dekoriert, das einzige was an Afrika erinnerte. Anfangs lief zumindest noch afrikanische Musik, die wurde aber bald aus gemacht. Warum? Fazit: Essen und Service Top Ambiente Flop

Einfach wow! Alles top, gibt überhaupt nichts auszusetzen. Würden mehr Sterne geben, wenn wir könnten.

Sehr freundliche und herzliche Bedienung, Preise sind in Ordnung. Es finden sich einige Vegane Gerichte. Das Fufu kann ich leider nicht so empfehlen, trotzdem spannend es mal zu probieren. Wie schon vor Ort gesagt: Bei sehr scharf dürft ihr noch eine Schippe drauf packen;). Alles in allem eine eindeutige Empfehlung, gern mal wieder!
